welcome back to the shop in today's
0:10
video we're going to show you an example
0:12
of how to lay out your van water system
0:14
we'll show you a recommended path on how
0:16
the water flows throughout your van so
0:17
you get a better idea of how to tackle
0:19
this project if you have any question
0:21
please put those in the comments below
0:23
and we'll be happy to answer those in a
0:25
future video
0:30
hey guys welcome back to the shop have
0:33
an interesting layout here for you guys
0:35
and I wanted to do this because
0:37
sometimes when you're Plumbing your
0:40
water system it can get really confusing
0:42
and one of the easiest ways to do it is
0:45
just take the parts and literally lay it
0:48
out and actually draw it out
0:50
do you understand where everything's
0:52
coming from
0:54
so we're finishing up the water system
0:57
on the 2020 medium roof van this is
1:01
Thomas's van
1:03
and we are working our way from the
1:05
water heater
1:07
as well as the water pump
1:10
all the way to the back of the van where
1:12
we're going to have our tank fill port
1:16
and then we're going to have our hot and
1:19
cold mixer valve for our wash down
1:22
station out there in the back
1:25
so these are all the parts we're going
1:27
to need today to do the install but I
1:31
want to take some markers here and
1:32
actually draw out how everything is
1:34
going together and how the system works
1:37
because it can kind of get complicated
1:38
when you're running hot and cold lines
1:40
as well as make blending them into a
1:45
mixer valve there's a couple of special
1:47
fittings you're going to need
1:49
some adapter fittings as well as all the
1:52
90 elbows
1:56
and stuff like that so yeah let's go
1:58
ahead and get started I got some markers
2:00
over here color coded to try to help
2:04
this make sense
2:07
so we're going to start over here and we
2:09
need to draw our
2:12
um
2:13
imaginary hot water heater so that is
2:16
right here
2:21
all right and then we got two ports
2:23
on the hot water heater
2:25
we're going to have our Port over here
2:29
which is going to be our hot water
2:33
and this is going out
2:36
then
2:38
the middle port
2:40
which that is cold water going in
2:45
and then our Port back here
2:48
all right so this first Port is our hot
2:50
water coming out
2:52
this second Port if I mess this up this
2:55
is actually our
2:57
color this in this is our pressure
2:59
relief valve
3:02
um and then this Port right here is our
3:05
our cold water going in
3:10
so we'll mark this our pressure
3:14
relief valve
3:17
and so this valve
3:20
is not going to be used but we do have
3:23
this tapped in there
3:27
so we'll go ahead and we will color this
3:29
one red
3:35
and then we'll color our cold water in
3:37
blue
3:59
okay so we have our hot water heater
4:01
we've got our hot coming out
4:03
this is our pressure relief valve
4:06
which needs to be plumbed and we showed
4:08
in the first video and then we have our
4:11
cold water in
4:15
and then over here
4:18
we have
4:29
this is our pump
4:36
and the pump is coming out
4:40
so this is our this is our water pump
4:43
water
4:47
all right
4:52
so we got a water pump
4:55
and then if we go up further
5:00
see how we can fit this in here
5:03
let's move this over a little bit
5:09
this is our
5:13
this is our water tank
5:20
the water tank is being plumbed out
5:29
and the water tank goes into our water
5:31
pump
5:34
so let's start where the water comes in
5:36
and then we'll get to the water pump
5:37
we'll go through the water pump going to
5:40
its cold out to the mixer valve
5:42
and then we'll go to the water pump
5:44
going into the hot water heater out the
5:47
hot water side into the mixer valve
5:49
that's pretty much what we're going to
5:51
accomplish today
5:53
so over here
5:55
we have the
5:57
Aqua aqur
6:00
this is the really nice wash down system
6:03
it actually has let me go over here and
6:06
grab this
6:13
comes in a really nice kit
6:15
foreign
6:17
and you may have seen this
6:19
on a couple other YouTube channels but
6:22
awkward makes the one where it has a
6:25
self-sealing spring inside so you would
6:28
attach this to a garden hose or your RV
6:31
water supply as you Campground
6:35
make sure you always attach your filter
6:37
onto it and then you're going to take
6:40
this and it has these threads so when
6:43
you squeeze and twist it locks into
6:46
place it depresses the spring and allows
6:49
water to flow
6:50
a lot of people like these because when
6:52
you go to disconnect it it reseals and
6:55
doesn't allow water to come back out
6:58
so helps you reduce the amount of
7:01
drips and stuff like that you get from
7:03
filling your water tank
7:09
and uh
7:11
so I'm pretty much going to indicate all
7:12
this Flow by either hot or cold and
7:15
obviously this is
7:18
water coming in
7:19
so the water is going to come in the
7:21
valve
7:22
and then we have a 90 that goes down
7:28
and the reason I'm using all these
7:30
fittings is because later we'll show you
7:33
that we've cut out a template
7:35
and on this template we have
7:39
we'll be cutting out a hole for our
7:42
water fill
7:44
we'll be cutting out
7:46
a hole for our mixer valve
7:50
and then we'll be cutting out a hole on
7:52
this back end to thread in our spray
7:56
down hose
8:02
so we need these fittings because this
8:06
piece of board is going to be like this
8:08
and we need a way for the tubes to get
8:10
around
8:12
and make their way to the water tank
8:15
so the water is going to come in
8:16
go through these 90s
8:19
and each one of these 90s is going to be
8:21
based on how you need to move around
8:23
your van in order to uh
8:27
get the water to where it needs to go
8:31
we come down we got 290s and then we
8:33
have this special fitting right here so
8:34
this is a half inch
8:36
fitting going from PEX a to half inch
8:39
and this half inch is actually going to
8:41
we're going to use thread sealer and
8:44
we're going to take it and we're going
8:45
to screw it into
8:47
our fill Port right here
8:50
on the top of our water tank so there's
8:52
a fill Port right here
8:55
as we go as the water comes in and fills
8:58
up our water tank
9:00
to the water
9:03
it's got the water filled up it's
9:05
filling up the tank
9:06
then it's going to come through here
9:09
and it's going to make its way
9:11
down
9:13
into the water pump now we've already
9:16
showed you this was a complicated run
9:17
because we got that shelve that that
9:21
pull out shelf that is making this have
9:23
it be a really weird jog but remember
9:27
the the uh you need to know how many
9:30
feet
9:31
from this point to this point
9:34
uh
9:36
how many feet that is because the water
9:39
pump that we have
9:41
the length
9:45
can only be a Max of six feet
9:49
so you can have a length of six feet and
9:51
that's the maximum length
9:53
um until this water pump can no longer
9:56
function properly
9:58
what that means is it can't pull enough
10:00
suction to get the water moving
10:05
so we get our water pump
10:08
and the water is taking the water from
10:09
the tank and now
10:11
this is getting ready to move it into
10:14
all of other stuff that we need
10:18
so the first quick easy run that we have
10:22
is it's going from the water pump and it
10:25
is going directly into
10:29
our hot water heater
10:32
so the pump is feeding the hot water
10:34
heater
10:35
hot water heater Heats it up and then it
10:37
goes out the hot water side
10:39
not only is it coming out of the water
10:41
pump and going down here but now we need
10:44
to Branch off from this and start
10:46
supplying our faucet
10:49
so over here we're going to have the
10:53
water line come off
10:59
let's kind of go up
11:01
and I'm basically just showing you the
11:02
flow when we get to these fittings it's
11:05
going to be more accurate as far as
11:07
uh where the water is actually going
11:11
through the fittings
11:13
but it's going to come down through the
11:14
water pump into the hot water heater
11:16
then it's also going to come
11:18
so right here for example you would have
11:20
a t
11:22
so it'd be like a Pex a t
11:24
then you would have a 90
11:26
and these aren't represented because
11:28
they're already in the van in that last
11:30
video we did
11:32
then this is going to come up we got
11:35
another 90 right here
11:37
and you can see by drawing this out you
11:39
start to make your parts list so we're
11:41
going to go from this 90 and now we get
11:45
into the fun part
11:46
so these two valves right here are going
11:49
to be the valves that we use for our
11:51
faucet
11:53
so depending on what faucet you have
11:58
this is too big for the table obviously
12:00
so it's not on the table but depending
12:02
on what faucet you have you're going to
12:04
have a hot and cold water line some
12:07
people just want a cold water tap
12:10
others want hot and cold
12:12
so this and the here and here is where
12:14
you're going to
12:16
attach your faucet so this is the faucet
12:19
that goes in your kitchen galley
12:20
so just
12:22
make a note that this these two fittings
12:25
are actually what is supplying hot and
12:27
cold water to this
12:43
all right next the water is going to
12:46
keep making its way
12:49
and we will have one another T
12:54
um
12:57
so this T will actually be a continuous
13:00
line and it'll go into
13:03
this valve
13:10
so now this valve is being supplied uh
13:15
water
13:17
go into our sink we just talked about
13:19
all right next the water is going to
13:22
continue
13:24
uh because we need water to make its way
13:28
to our wash down cold side
13:31
so it's going to come through
13:33
and then we got these fittings here
13:34
because we got to make a jog
13:36
these fittings are actually the water
13:39
tank is located right here in the van so
13:42
the lines are going above the water tank
13:43
then they're coming out the back of the
13:45
water tank going down
13:48
and then they're coming this way
13:53
the flows going here and then it's going
13:55
into
13:56
this first line of the rear wash down
14:01
mixer valve
14:03
so we gotta Branch off to the water here
14:04
in this first place comes branches off
14:07
goes into the sink and then comes
14:09
branches off and goes to the wash down
14:13
and then from here this
14:16
and will actually just make its way into
14:20
this mixer valve right here
14:23
so we'll just draw a line we'll just
14:25
come around
14:27
and that actually goes into the mixer
14:29
valve
14:32
that is how the cold water system works
14:35
on this van
14:38
next up
14:40
we've got the hot water system
14:43
so the hot water system starts with the
14:45
cold water entering the hot water tank
14:48
it's going to come out right here
14:50
and it's going to go into
14:53
the first 90
14:56
and then it's going to travel this way
15:01
and then we're going to Tee It Off and
15:05
this is going to supply the hot water to
15:07
our
15:08
sink like we just talked about
15:11
next we're going to come over
15:14
I'm going to keep going down we need
15:16
water to get over here
15:18
and the hot water is going to make its
15:19
way down
15:21
these fittings
15:26
and this uh this jog right here
15:31
it kind of mimics this one but the
15:32
reason we're doing this one is because
15:34
we already have right here a way that
15:36
we're getting around the tank this part
15:39
is going to take double the amount of
15:40
fittings because we got to go another
15:42
Direction
15:44
so just keep drawing it out and it'll
15:46
all make sense to you
15:49
so we got that and then this is going to
15:52
come over here
15:54
it's going to go into this fitting
15:58
jog over
16:01
and then here is where it's actually
16:03
going to go under
16:07
this piece of uh this will be actually a
16:10
piece of quarter inch plywood
16:12
for the mounting surface
16:17
and these arrows are just to help you
16:19
guys see the uh the water flow
16:23
Direction
16:25
it's going to flow here then it's going
16:27
to go and flow all the way up
16:31
once we make our connection here
16:33
now notice when you get these mixer
16:36
valves the thing is scandivic is the
16:39
company
16:40
it's really low profile
16:42
what's really nice is you can turn it
16:45
off or on
16:47
and then you can twist for cold or hot
16:49
it's a really cool device
16:53
so you get these hoses and
16:56
they're very tiny so you can see much
16:59
smaller than like a normal kitchen
17:01
faucet
17:02
so you're going to have to adapt half
17:04
inch
17:06
depicts a
17:08
on both of these
17:11
and then you're going to have to on the
17:13
output so you got cold in you got hot in
17:17
so let's go ahead and draw we've got our
17:20
hot water coming in here
17:26
all right cold and hot
17:28
and so cold and hot and then this third
17:31
valve is actually going to connect to
17:34
this and then this will be your main
17:37
output that's mixed
17:39
for your spray down shower
17:42
and then there's a final fitting right
17:44
here this is a 3 8
17:47
to half inch
17:48
so we're reducing or we're taking 3 8
17:52
and we're increasing it to half inch and
17:55
that's allowing us to connect it to our
17:57
wash down hose
18:05
all right so we'll do one quick
18:08
pass through this
18:10
water comes in through the top
18:13
it goes and fills our tank up
18:15
then we have
18:17
maximum six feet so the smaller you can
18:20
make this line the closer you can get
18:23
your water pump to your water tank the
18:25
better for your water pump
18:28
to the water pump water pump pressurizes
18:30
it it's going to go the hot water heater
18:32
is going to fill the hot water heater up
18:35
it's going to go over here it's going to
18:37
supply
18:38
pressure to our sink in the kitchen
18:40
galley
18:41
and it's also going to supply cold water
18:43
to the side of our mixer valve
18:45
then it's filling up so the pressure is
18:48
coming from the cold side that's what
18:50
pushes the hot water around so this is
18:53
the same pressure
18:56
so that'll get heated up
18:58
goes in here
19:00
branches off hot water side of our
19:03
kitchen
19:04
goes over here branches off makes it all
19:07
the way back to our hot side
19:10
for our mixer valve for the wash down
19:13
combines and then goes to our spray down
19:15
one
19:18
all right guys that's going to make it
19:19
for that'll be all for this video if you
19:22
guys have any questions feel free to put
19:24
those questions in the comments happy to
19:26
answer that in a future video and we'll
19:28
see you guys in the next video
