all right hey guys welcome back to the live stream it's a late night stream tonight but I wanted to capture something I'm working on because uh once
1:01
I finish it tonight I probably won't be making a video going back to it and uh it's a part of the build that's really
1:07
important um it took a lot of time so I thought you guys would really be interested in getting some footage of it
1:13
before uh it gets taken apart disassembled and put back together um later tonight so this is what I'm
1:19
talking about this is a solid piece of 3/4 inch
1:26
bamboo and it is the back side of the flat Lane
1:32
vanco 41in kitchen Galley now this um the reason that this is uh important
1:40
is there's a contour right here and man it took forever to get perfect the other
1:46
thing is I wanted to make sure that this I wanted to have this be a seamless transition from this bottom piece where
1:53
it uh interacts with the ABC rig uh step trim and then how it comes over
2:00
jogs that edge and then comes all the way over here and there's a couple different pieces uh the electrical the
2:08
Lagoon uh the Lagoon is what I'm going to talk about most but what's nice is you can purchase a
2:14
3/4 inch sheet of solid bamboo um I got this from uh Cali bamboo and I think
2:21
there's only about two places you can get this shipped so uh it's hard to get
2:26
it was expensive but I'm telling you when this when I stain this tonight or do the clear coat on it uh that's why I
2:33
wanted to show you this video is I wanted to disassemble it on video and then once I finish it um you guys can
2:39
see the final product uh when it dries overnight but yeah we're going to do a matte uh clear coat on this and just
2:48
going we're going to do a I think it's a polycrylic is what we're using for it
2:53
anyway that is for this uh we'll sand it up clean it up but I'm going to start going through the uh each piece piece
3:00
just to give you an idea of what we're doing here so the main function of this piece is obviously to hide this uh but
3:08
this is actually the main feature so the main feature is the Lagoon table so a
3:13
lot of Vans have a lagoon table mount on the outside of the van but I really
3:19
wanted to stylistically make this just look super clean very polished so I've
3:26
got a 3/4 inch uh piece right here that's cut to the exact specs of a
3:32
standard Lagoon Mount so you can buy extra one of these if you don't have it
3:37
this is kind of my sacrificial Lagoon Mount this is the Amazon version that I bought this is the real version from
3:45
Lagoon and this is very gritty and kind of rough this is super nice and smooth
3:51
so we're going to be using this one in the end but I use this to open up the holes and do all that stuff but we got
3:59
the 3/4 in and then this piece that we cut off here I used a piece of it to bring this
4:05
Lagoon table out more and the reason I did that is you have an arm this
4:10
articulating arm and if I had just keping it up to the side this arm would
4:17
not be able to rotate so what I wanted to do was I wanted to make sure that this arm could
4:24
rotate and this part back here is not going to rub now obviously it can't go all the way
4:30
but um the goal for this whole setup is so that um I've only got this
4:36
held in by two bolts I'm going to try to be kind of careful with it but for example you have your Lagoon Mount and
4:43
you can have multiple of these in the van if you wanted to uh but what's nice is a company called Panther RV sells a
4:50
prefinished bamboo top with a lagoon Mount already mounted to it so
5:00
uh yeah it's just ready to go now if you want to a lot of people what they do is they'll take this and then they'll offset it uh by one set of screws so if
5:09
you can imagine this width just coming down here to this very edge putting in
5:14
two more screws and that gets you to put it in these interesting orientations such as the front and uh driver and
5:21
passenger seat but this is what I wanted to show you guys today so this was my plan pretty happy about
5:29
it but you got this really cool look here because you've got um not only do
5:36
you have the bamboo back here but you've got this really just awesome transition
5:44
between like a two pieces of clean bamboo
5:49
um give me one second I got to make sure that I'm not scratching my uh I've got tons of tape
5:56
on here but anyway there we go make sure it's not
6:01
scratching um but I wanted to have this just super clean look for working with
6:07
the bamboo and then what we're going to do is I've opened these holes in the back
6:13
side a little bit more and so once everything gets locked
6:19
down you have somewhat of ability to adjust the levelness so it doesn't look
6:25
kind of awkward so I'm going to do that before the show this weekend
6:30
um but yeah I just think this look is really cool not only that we can still
6:36
pull the table out it can go all the way over here or it can come in and this is
6:42
how I'm going to have it for the show uh but what I wanted to show you on the
6:47
bottom is this really cool outlet from Amazon it's a
6:53
uh it's got a spring actuated door on it and it just uh looks really cool
7:03
so I'm just going to pick up an induction
7:13
stove and so the plan here is you take your induction
7:19
stove and I know this is nothing new a lot of people like to cook outside all that good stuff
7:25
but what's nice is um so you got your cook toop up here kind of doing your
7:32
thing and this can be locked in place now I don't have I'm going to be
7:37
modifying this so I'm going to talk about this modification so I'm actually going to be cutting this up on a miter saw and I'm going to show you what I'm
7:43
going to do but that'll be in tomorrow's video so yeah just act like this isn't
7:52
it's it's all perfect um so down here is this box and you can't see it from that
8:01
angle but actually let me see if I can move this camera a little bit
8:10
forward let me change the camera
8:21
angle okay so you kind of saw the top now you're seeing the another perspective of
8:27
this so this is the box and I'm talking about
8:32
um where's the company I think I put the box over
8:53
here all right I have to put this on the comments later I'm not sure where I put the cardboard box it was here somewhere
9:00
anyway this thing is awesome so you have a electrical box that you can feels
9:06
pretty standard it's got Knockouts all over the place it's got adjustable uh so you can have it outside
9:13
of a panel inset of a panel and then it has this uh housing
9:19
here and it's solid metal um it's not a painted plastic or anything I got off
9:25
Amazon it's got two outlets uh they're resistant and they have class 2 USB
9:32
ports which are the 5 volt 4.8
9:37
amps uh earlier today we talked about doing the electrical so this is an continuation of that electrical but
9:43
anyway this box goes in here and then there's this button on it and then when
9:49
you press the button the outlet opens up and it's really cool um what's nice
9:56
is they claim it's water resistant because it has this gasket around this
10:03
and then it has this gasket around the face material that you're going to use
10:09
so technically it's water resistant we all know that it's possible to get water
10:14
in here you you kind of can't really take uh their word for that
10:20
cuz I know that if it's raining outside it's probably going to get in here the
10:25
reason I got it is it's a if you have this on the outside of your van and it starts to rain this will protect you to
10:33
a point so if it just starts to rain the reason I wanted to have this was not only is it
10:40
um uh this is like a stainless finish or brushed finish and in clear
10:46
coated but the rain will kind of come over this and then you have your you can
10:51
open up your outlet
10:57
here and I think I got got this one in here wedged there we go so we open this
11:03
one up and it actually locks in place which is cool so you have to press the button again to close
11:10
it so it's kind of locked into place but what's I just think is really cool is
11:15
you can plug your induction stove in right there and everything's kind of you know
11:21
everything's just nicely just nicly hidden out of the way and um so I like
11:27
the way it looks I don't like things look clunky but again we're going to uh when we finished taking this all apart
11:34
tonight um you're going to watch me take it apart and then I'm going to end the video but you can see we can actually
11:40
have enough adjustability to where I can level this table you know however we want to do
11:46
it but not only can you do your induction stove there's another Outlet over here that you could use for some
11:52
light duty Electrical uh just to give you a heads up if you have a dual burner
11:58
induction there's only there's always a maximum amount of wattage that you can pull from an induction stove typically
12:03
it's around 1,800 watts and the reason is 1800 watts is pretty much what the
12:09
outlet can um deliver so if we just did
12:15
some quick math here you can take uh let's take 1,800 Watts for the max of
12:21
our induction and let's divide it by 15 amps so the circuit's going to break at
12:27
15 amps so technically you don't have a usable 15 amps but let's just say we'll
12:34
write at 15 amps right at that edge so you do 1800 watts divided by amps and you can see if you have 120
12:42
volts power so a clean 120 you have a 15 amp
12:48
service you can get your maximum 1,800 Watts for that induction co uh stove to
12:55
to cook now kind of a misnomer is if you
13:01
have a dual burner 1800 watt induction you're not going to get a full 18 on two
13:07
it's just mathematically impossible so that 1800 watts is going to be divided
13:13
somehow so maybe one burner might be 800 watts one might be a th000 um so one's
13:19
not going to be as hot as the other so you can use a dual burner on here maybe you wanted to have something just
13:24
keeping some food warm while you're cooking the other piece
13:29
and um so just kind of think about that so if you're not using the max wattage
13:34
you could use uh the other plug to I don't know maybe have like a little fan
13:40
going or something while you're cooking and then maybe one of these could charge your phone uh but just know
13:47
that the outlet is uh you know the math is the math it it you can only get so
13:54
much power out of this one Outlet regardless if it has two plugs
14:00
um now I guess you could have technically wired in 20 amp service outlets in your van but uh that's kind
14:06
of thinking a bunch of steps ahead I don't think many people are going to do
14:12
that um but yeah getting back to this my phone just stopped hold on a
14:19
second here we go this is pretty much the setup so this
14:25
will all be cleaned up tonight we're going to go ahead do a mat finish on everything so I'm going to go ahead and take start
14:31
the process of taking this apart I'll explain a couple things and that'll be pretty much the stream um if any of you
14:37
guys are watching you have some questions tonight uh I'll definitely answer them the best
14:45
I can so let's do a little wide angle shot here and
14:51
then we're going to call it a
14:57
night
15:17
okay so we need to go back a little bit
15:27
more
15:45
all right so we go down here we take our plug off and then what you would do is just press the button shut the
15:52
door take our induction off
16:01
don't forget guys we're going to peace love and vans uh we're hitting the road
16:08
Thursday the show will be Friday Saturday Sunday and then we'll head head back
16:13
Monday so it's going to be a long drive to get down there it's it's nine hours from the
16:27
shop and actually I'm just going to take this
16:32
all the way off so we actually have another Mount right here on the inside of the
16:53
van and while I'm at it we're going to take this uh there's St shess threads in
16:59
here so if you overtighten this is that's what's H that's what happened to this one you'll Gall the threads and
17:04
then this thing will the plastic uh indexer will break so I bought uh
17:12
another handle like this you can actually get these handles off Amazon if you break them I'll show you what one looks
17:22
[Applause] like they're really cheap it's like four
17:28
bucks for for two of
17:34
them this actually just came in this afternoon which is perfect
17:44
timing now obviously these are not going to be the same as the Lagoon but um you
17:50
can kind of see it's a it's got the same thing where the handle will index and
17:55
lock it's an M8 thread which is pretty close to the Lagoon thread uh now this one is much smaller
18:04
but I was in a pinch this is two-day delivery so I I kind of like it though it's more low profile so what's going to
18:12
happen here you guys can see the tape is this part right here where the tape is this is going to get chopped
18:18
off because if you can tell if you wanted this to be in a lower orientation
18:25
this is its lowest height so we're going to go and chop this off so that this can actually come down
18:34
lower so you can have a lower cooking surface something more comfortable it doesn't have to be Skyhigh up here so
18:41
right there um the other reason we have to do this is because uh within here there's a a
18:49
channel cut out and that channel that's cut out that's what's allowing this to squeeze
18:57
and grip so what we're going to do is we already marked a hole so we're going to have this
19:05
here and then the the friction spot will be right there so where my thumb is is
19:10
the friction spot so we you can have it here or all the way as low as about
19:17
right there so we can lower this about two two Ines lower than what was
19:25
possible um yeah so we'll do that tomorrow um so here is the assembly itself we're
19:32
going to go inside uh it's just thumb tightened with some
19:42
screws so these screws are 516 -8 for the thread
19:50
pitch the 3 in long because we're going through
19:56
the uh flatl van kitchen Galley a 3/4 in piece
20:02
of um bamboo and then another 3/4 inch
20:07
piece and then another almost half inch piece for the Lagoon table so they need to be pretty pretty
20:16
long so once this is uh done you can actually just take this assembly
20:23
out and I'm going to show you why this was specifically put in this location
20:29
so you can kind of see there um so I just did the table saw here miter saw in both Corners Square everything up and so
20:36
this is nice piece but what's really going to be cool is once this gets uh sealed it's it's it's going to pop it's
20:44
going to look really good all right and then we've got our
20:49
two stainless steel screws this one's already been taken out uh this cabinet
20:55
actually holds itself into place uh due to the Ford gasket over here um I will
21:01
be adding one more screw here I'm not sure if I'm going to do it now or later
21:09
um because when we get back from the show the only thing that didn't get done on this B to fully complete the van uh
21:17
was the plumbing so we still got to do the water pump and the PEX lines uh but
21:23
everything else is ready to go
21:33
that little bit of electrical that you saw today that was the last piece of
21:41
electrical so if you you can guys kind of can see the reverse install so you'll actually open
21:48
this door up and then your screwdriver will be level with the door and then
21:54
you'll be able to unscrew uh this the two screws that
21:59
actually holds the face of this housing
22:20
on so that'll come out here and so later this is where we'll actually um put our
22:28
connections and what's nice is it is keeping the connections High higher up
22:34
than you know if it did it slightly rained on before you you could get time
22:39
to get all your stuff back in your van um I took a lot of time to make sure that the uh Lagoon Mount pole what I did
22:49
is I came through and I drew a profile line on the left hand side of this and
22:55
so what they did is it gave me the visual ual line that I needed right here
23:00
as my kind of my reference so if you can imagine um that was my visual line right
23:07
there and then all I did was I went through and just did equidistance from the bottom to the top following this
23:14
body line and that's how I came up with the placement like this that way when you look at it uh you get
23:21
that uh look like it was meant to to be
23:27
where it's at which is kind of the whole point when you're designing stuff
23:34
um and then I made sure that I was really precise with cutting the bamboo out and this is really almost like a
23:39
press fit in here so it's not going to wobble or move anytime you move that box
23:45
you want to do a nice tight fit like that especially when there's only two mounting points for this whole
23:51
entire assembly uh so since you can't do any more anything to hold it making sure
23:59
this is tight uh is a good idea so now we're going to see why this
24:05
got mounted in the location it got
24:14
mounted yeah so this is a really tight
24:19
fit and then there you go you can kind of see how that is put together so we're
24:27
going to take this over here so that we can go ahead and seal it before we head out
24:56
tonight so now we're looking at the back side of the kitchen Galley what's nice about having
25:03
something like this well in the construction phase is we have access to everything so there's actually these
25:09
access pieces cut out already by Flatline van Cove so that you can uh you
25:15
can do plumbing or electrical that way when the face is on you don't have to worry about changing
25:21
anything um we've also pulled all of our Electrical uh up through a
25:28
hole right here in the floor so everything from the power system comes
25:33
out here and this is our sub panel for the rest of the van so our heater lights
25:39
all that good stuff comes out of here so if you need to work on a fuse you just
25:44
open the Kitchen Gallery door it's right here it's really convenient now this last part has to do
25:52
with this over here and if you can see we've got
25:58
um we've got this slot so these are the adventure R wagon ready slots so if this
26:05
kitchen gy was on the opposite side of the van uh what you can do or the way that this is designed is so you can take
26:12
a bolt for the L track and you can actually bolt this and adjust it whether it's a sprinter or Transit you can
26:20
adjust this to the adventure wagon rails and actually bolt it into the L track
26:25
and so I've done that on the left hand side of the gap and then we've just taken two bolts and bolted it into the floor here and that
26:33
is securing this whole entire Galley for in the event you know an accident or
26:38
quick stop this whole Galley is actually bolted to the structure of the
26:44
van so what I did on the mount right here is I took this slot and I went up
26:52
all the way to the top of the slot and then I found a place where I wanted to have my next hole ho so that way this is
27:01
actually on a metal structure or aluminum and this aluminum structure it's not having to
27:09
uh have the bamboo be at support this uh powder coat aluminum corner here
27:17
is this support So this you can put a ton of weight on this um so it'll be super strong extremely
27:24
rigid we do have the two bolts over here that's you saw where bolted in for the
27:30
bamboo so that's going to be good too um and if you ever buy a lagoon table Mount
27:37
system you're going to have a lot there's going to be a lot of pieces in it it comes with these uh plastic
27:44
shims so if you put them together opposite one another technically it
27:50
could be a spacer um this right here is just a piece of uh I think this is a piece of
27:56
stainless or maybe might might be aluminum yeah it's probably aluminum I should know right um that
28:03
comes with a kit then this piece of plywood comes with a kit and then the last thing that comes
28:10
with a kit is this and then there's a bag of hardware
28:15
and then they wrap this whole thing so this whole thing comes as a kit and then I think you get maybe this arm too it
28:23
all comes like as a kit um not sponsored but I get the stuff from Panther RV I've
28:29
just been buying stuff from them for a long time I like they kind of do business like old school
28:35
business you know you can call somebody up there's humans there um but yeah so this is the whole
28:43
kit so you can take this kit and then do anything to your van uh it's enough stuff to get started with mounting
28:49
Lagoon table Mount if you've if you've never mounted one before all right so um yeah I'm getting
28:56
ready to head out and I'm going to go ahead and put a coat of that uh actually
29:03
let me show you that before I leave in case you guys are wondering what I'm using so I'm just using a a foam brush
29:09
and then I'm spraying on this H polyacrylic it is water-based a clear
29:17
matte and um what I'm doing is I'm just spraying it on there pretty thick and
29:22
then I'm taking a foam brush and going with a grain and just making sure everything dries evenly and I've got a
29:29
sample here that I've coated sanded and
29:36
recoded you can kind of see uh what kind of color change if any is on
29:44
here if you guys can see this is a this has been the finished part so this is
29:50
what it looked like when it's finished this is the unfinished side so it's just going have that nice
29:56
natural tone um and we do need to do some cutting
30:02
into this top Butcher Block section I'm not sure if I'm going get that finished before the show um just got a lot of
30:08
things going on and uh yeah but we're excited to go to the show we're going to it's going to
30:14
be all cleaned up um visually everything's going to look great we'll
30:20
just have a two uh three upholstered panels on the Water System covering
30:26
everything so we won't have the uh the external shower or the control knobs and stuff
30:33
like that in the back which is okay um but everything else will be conceptionally where we want it to to
30:39
show everybody um the rest of the build and yeah so we're definitely uh
30:47
excited and uh if you guys are interested in purchasing this van it's currently for sale as of filming this
30:53
video and we're also anticipating that um
30:59
the next customer that purchases this van or if you are looking to purchase this van um there's always going to be
31:05
modifications people always want to make changes so um I can bet that whoever
31:11
purchases this van is going to want to change a bunch of things um Thomas if you're watching this you know that uh on
31:18
Thomas's van we've added so many things it's been a really fun project um yeah we we've got more plans later this year
31:25
to put more stuff in his van we're going to upgrade uh the battery um we found a
31:32
spot underneath the seat uh s so just came out with a new I think it's a
31:38
2 60 amp hour battery and it is uh the exact
31:45
dimensions uh of the half of the passenger seat so if you put a
31:51
Webasto um stdc 2000 heater in it the remaining space is ex exact dimensions
31:58
of this s so battery so uh it's going to be pretty cool um that would give his
32:04
van let's see let me make sure this uh s so is I think it's a
32:12
260 see s so
32:19
battery let's see
32:26
here
32:41
280 this say a 280 amp hour
32:47
battery same technology as the other s so's we have four 100 amp hour s in his
32:52
van so 4 plus the 280 so it'll be 680 amp hours um it's got a built-in heater
32:59
Bluetooth connectivity it's their 280 amp battery so the dimensions of the battery that's
33:07
really exciting is um it's 13 in by 9 1 12 in by 9.84 in
33:17
so about 10 in and that's awesome to have that much power in such a small footprint because there's no other place
33:24
in the van to add a battery for him um and we just uh we just need a little bit
33:30
200 amp hours to really make everything much more comfortable um he's spending more time in his van um you know using
33:37
all the electronics and the inverter and all that and so we just want to uh instead of waiting for things to
33:44
kind of top off and charge um now this is already saying he's already got 550 watts of solar 400
33:51
amp hours uh yeah so he's he's turning into a van power user so we need to uh
33:58
do a little upgrade um this van has 600 amp hours
34:04
and of the 600 amp hours um two of the batteries are uh the self
34:14
uh no three of the batteries are the self-heating version and what's nice is if there's a really deep freeze um and I
34:21
actually tested it uh I put the van outside and the temperature got I think
34:27
had like 26° like a really cold night and it was cool because the state of charge I think
34:33
was like 80% and then overnight the battery heaters were on all night because the
34:38
van got so cold so the van maintained power and then I think uh maybe 15% of
34:45
the battery or something like that was 10% um was taken down and it was just
34:50
the batteries keeping themselves warm uh during the night so it's pretty
34:55
interesting all right what else do I want to tell you guys before I sign off
