hey everyone welcome back to live stream we're uh jumping a little bit early today I'm working on the inside of the van and there's something I didn't want
1:05
you guys to miss because I'm pretty much just going to run right through it so I uh jumped on the live stream rig here
1:13
and we're going to go inside the van and we're going to do a couple things so the uh upper um the
1:21
factory upholstered panel from Ford we need to pop that out because the AVC rig
1:28
uh ceiling panel um I don't like the way that they're installing it they're pretty much just laying it over the
1:33
front of the van so what I want to do is I want to actually bring it over this
1:39
piece and uh uh screw it in actually so you'll see here in just a second we're
1:45
going to hop in the van right now and I'll show you what I'm talking about
1:52
so up here in the front we've got this uh panel from Ford
2:00
that's snapped in and typically panels would go along this
2:06
Ridge like the adventure wagon interior system um but for this one ABC is
2:11
putting it over here um that's what I saw in the video it could be doing
2:16
differently but that's what I saw the only thing I have about that is you've only got maybe two in that you
2:25
are overhanging this and I don't want it to flop and make any um because we're not upholstering that
2:31
panel we're actually putting in a uh Cedar ceiling and I just
2:38
want no in so what we're going to do is on
2:45
underneath here there are three snaps from for and so these are your typical be
2:53
very careful when you do what I just did if you lose this and it goes back behind here you have to remove the entire front
3:00
of the ve I mean the whole entire thing it's it's a main but so be careful but
3:06
these snaps there's three of them and believe it or not they're just uh
3:11
there's a a plastic bracket that has a some plastic glue and that's how they're
3:19
adhered to this it's not uh formed in the panel so when you go to pop this
3:27
open you're going to take this and you're going to this is a body panel removal tool you can get
3:33
these at Harbor Freight and there's all kinds of different ones you got these this size got a
3:40
whole bunch of just from doing installs audio all that good stuff
3:47
but this is going to go into here and then what you're going to do is
3:53
you're going to pry up on it so it's it's pretty straightforward um you just
3:58
want to be very that you don't lose these uh pie these plastic
4:06
pieces so go through very carefully and pop this out extremely carefully because
4:12
it will rip out up here if you don't do it easy so just take your time but
4:18
there's a couple benefits that this gives to you one this will allow us to have access to put in our insulation
4:26
which we're going to do we'll pop that in there and then what
4:32
we're going to do is I'm going to measure uh a cut out here and I'm
4:38
actually going to cut out the
4:44
uh the panel from ABC rig so I'm going to notch
4:50
it right here so I'm going to take this
4:57
part I'm going to not and that way I can go around the Clips
5:06
in the ceiling I can still put this over it like they designed it to do um and I
5:13
put the Clips in the ceiling and then that way everything is going to work out all good
5:22
I had it going over here at first then I double checked on the video and the
5:27
instructions changed it but you know it's your van so you get to modify how
5:34
you want and that's I want to do this one so let me see if I can
5:42
find my tape
5:50
measure you have all the tape measures you need you start working um okay so we're just going to
5:57
measure this the inside
6:02
and that's actually a pretty good reference um so that is
6:09
14 so we need to probably go so it's 14 in and then we're going to add a qu of
6:15
an inch
6:28
each camera in there all right so in
6:35
here there you
6:40
go so that's there we go that's what I'm talking about these
6:45
clips so you just want to make sure you don't break them off and lose them inside the van it's not
6:56
good um okay now we're back okay we got 14 in we got our snaps out
7:04
and what we're going to do is going to keep this open stuff our insulation in
7:09
and then we're going to be able to peel this back now you got to be careful
7:15
U because this will deform if you are too aggressive but we're going to take a
7:21
sheat metal screw and we'll put it into the wood over here and then we'll do do it over here
7:30
now I say that's what I'm going to do there's a chance that I need to
7:35
actually bring this this whole thing down but if we do
7:44
we'll cross that bridge when we get there um all right so now what I want to do is
7:58
measure it looks like it's 2 and half
8:28
in okay I think two and half inch will be
8:33
good so we're just going to write on our piece of wood panel we're going to do two and half in for our depth and then our width is
8:41
going to be 14 in plus qu of an
8:49
inch extra each
8:58
side I'm going to measure this out in the
9:04
van so you can see I'm trace it out a
9:14
visual oh I see camera I didn't like that hold on a
9:22
second there we
9:28
go
9:34
let's move over down
9:41
okay let's get our
9:58
Square okay we're just going to
10:05
measure see we got 40 and a half
10:10
so 40 and a half is going to give us 20 and
10:25
A4 we got 20 and a quart for our Center Point come out
10:35
seven seven in on each
10:41
side seven and a qu seven and a quarter this does not
10:48
have to be perfect we just want to make sure we're getting out of the way of these plastic snaps we snap them back in
10:56
we don't have a
11:17
interfer there we go I always forget to change those mics over
11:23
okay all right we're back
11:30
okay come down to so let's go ahead and take the
11:39
uh always all right let's trace this
11:57
up
12:10
here uh what's cool is depending on where your mark is going to be you can
12:16
use these little notches on a square um 2 and 1 half inches is not where there's
12:22
a notch so I'm just going to hold it on the Square drag it there we go
12:31
[Music] okay nice Jamie um all right what do I
12:40
do here so I'm just going to double triple double check all right so that's now 14 and A2
12:48
on the width so 14 and A2 and we centered it and we're good we'll just
12:54
check two and a half for our depth one more time
13:00
you can always take more material out you can't put it
13:07
back so
13:17
technically H I'm going go two
13:22
inch I think I can get away with two in I'd I'd rather take less less material
13:35
away you know we'll do two and a quarter there you
13:42
go okay so let me jig all this out really quick
13:50
and I'll be right
13:57
back
14:05
let's see if I can get fancy with the camera give me one second see if I can take you guys over
14:11
to the the new table saw area we've not showed that area yet
14:22
but there you go the table so area has been a mess
14:30
because I have uh I had to put a bun bunch of extra
14:36
lighting in I had these uh shop LED lights and you know Lowe's sometimes change
14:45
Brands and they change models and stuff like that so one burned out and I had to
14:51
uh take one from one side of the shop and bring it to the other side of the
14:57
shop [Music]
15:27
okay looking for the
15:57
jigsaw
16:12
just as a cheat if you're you're ready to jigsaw something out just get a drill
16:17
bit that's uh the size of your jigsaw blade and it's just going to make your
16:23
life much easier when you get to uh when you're going around these Corners in
16:29
here so just find your corner and then drill it
16:36
out and it's actually going to give you a little bit of a radius and I know this is kind of Overkill
16:42
but uh it will help you or will lower the likelihood of
16:50
things cracking if you you know if you do a straight edge on wood sometimes it'll split on that
16:56
corner so
17:30
[Applause]
17:56
put those pads
18:24
mhm okay we got our Notch cut out
18:33
the new kitchen galy well it is
18:39
uh so I'm headed to So Jamie asked when is the new Kitchen Gallery for
18:48
sale I'm going to the uh piece L and vans which is formerly the uh Florida
18:57
van life Gathering so we're going to that in two
19:02
weeks and my goal is that we will have
19:09
that I'll have an announcement then because we're going to I'm going to bring bring one to the
19:16
show so if you guys are interested in that um peace love and
19:22
vans Awesome event uh I think it's already sold out they do have dat
19:28
tickets available um am I on camera there we
19:34
go this camera's way too close they do have uh they do have day
19:41
tickets available um so it's at with Luchi River Park um I think that's out of side of uh
19:50
Stark Florida I think that's right um I'll give you more information
19:56
in just a minute Let's uh keep on to this task uh something that is a pro tip
20:04
there's these things called zip wall they're they they're extendable spring retracted poles and so they are my
20:11
second pair of hands in this uh shop so I just pop them
20:18
over there in the corner and I can actually move all my stuff like I need
20:26
to all right
20:31
let's back you up a little bit more
20:48
okay now what I should have done is before I lifted this up I should have put the insulation in
20:54
but who knows we may need to modify this again I'm not
21:01
sure all right so what I'm doing I'm just going
21:07
in this [Music] side and I
21:12
think I'm going to go in further than I need to and then I'm going to come
21:21
backwards where my ceiling panels go so right there okay so that is where this
21:27
one is so we take our ZIP
21:33
wall just lock it into
21:41
place and this is nice cuz he Springs give you a little bit of slack so they're they're not holding it super
21:48
tight um okay so this one look
21:57
good
22:11
so one of the things that I didn't do that I should have done done is when I put this
22:17
in uh earlier I should have measure before I took the panels out I should
22:23
have measured ceiling so
22:28
this is where I might have to pop all the ceiling panels back in you know do a measurement and
22:37
then go back um so let's back the camera up a
22:42
little bit more so you guys get a feel for what's what's going on
22:56
here there we go go
23:05
okay so you're not required to put these rib nuts in the
23:11
ceiling but for popping in eight rib nuts this is where it makes it really
23:17
easy to just have something hold these panels in while
23:23
you uh we're just moving it to get it to its final
23:28
place because after we get to its final spot what I'm going to do is I'm going to screw in a sheet metal screw so
23:37
that's going to locate it and then that way
23:44
uh when we run our uh cut our holes for our lights and run our
23:50
cable um we'll we'll know kind of where to put it we won't have to do double
23:56
work
24:03
okay so this is where this ceiling system is a little odd so I've got to
24:09
figure out so when they did it they already had
24:15
this upholstered um I'm not ready to do all the upholstery I pretty much do all that at one time although if this has to
24:22
be done before the panel goes in and I might have to change my words on
24:30
that okay so we just want to I want to see if I can get this popped in there we go
24:38
okay question is can I pop this in after I screw this into the ceiling that's
24:44
that's what I'm trying to figure
24:53
out that's the uh fun part about custom vans is Thomas's 8020 ceiling that we did is
25:01
different than the adventure wagon ceiling is different than this ceiling so they're they're all
25:08
different you kind of have you know I guess you would call principles
25:14
or something that you go by to like these rib nuts and stuff
25:23
to help you kind of guide guide you in installing this that am I making sense
25:28
at
25:35
all
25:41
okay all right so those are looking good just having trouble getting this
25:46
one in and I think it's because I'm going to have to cut we've moved this wire so Ford had a
25:54
cut out here looks like we're going to have to cut this
25:59
cut this out so it doesn't
26:04
bind so let's go ahead and just take something sharp we're just going to mark
26:10
this now this is going to be upholstered but what we'll do is we'll
26:16
just have a nice very neat Notch right here and then we'll
26:22
upholster it and then it'll it'll look good
26:40
all right before we cut that let's get this uh side
26:49
panel so custom vans are just it's just a big puzzle that you're kind
26:54
of constantly figuring out
27:03
that's why I said in the live stream the other day you don't want to you don't want to design it to death
27:09
because you may end up changing
27:19
something so we need a driver front
27:26
upper okay so this is our upper
27:56
panel
28:04
now we have trace the back side of this so this one we we actually do
28:11
know where it's going to
28:26
land
28:56
okay
29:07
did you guys catch that that's my comedic relief for the
29:13
live stream today
29:21
okay all right so that that is where everything was
29:28
traced out to
29:40
be okay it looks like I so now I don't want to cut this out
29:45
so it's good that we're that's why we're testing all this well I don't know maybe I'll change my
29:56
mind
30:19
so what's going through my mind right now is I want to make sure that it doesn't look like this foam is binding
30:25
on the ceiling so that's really all I want to check there there's no binding if it's coming out of the wall this way
30:31
that's not a big deal because if I cut this I can't cut this piece so these piece need to be kind of in the same
30:37
plane if you will um okay
30:45
so let's let's get something to hold this in
30:56
place
31:15
okay I got to go turn the heat off it is it's
31:26
hot all right now we're getting we're getting back to work
31:31
here
31:43
so Hey Thomas welcome to the chat uh King buns question was opinions
31:50
on attempting to create trim rings for flares capsules
31:56
the cost of pre-mades are incredibly high but it's also very intricate it's a
32:03
very intricate piece yeah
32:08
um the capsules so I did a live stream
32:17
um where we actually we did these rear cutouts on these
32:23
uh bunk windows and
32:31
so so I got a question for you to kind of figure out which way to answer this for you while I think about it um so are
32:39
you do you have bump outs already and if you do have the bump outs
32:44
are you sleeping east to west and if you already have the bump outs already are
32:50
you trying to clean up the edge of it um so let me know if you're trying to clean
32:55
up the edge of it and I might have a uh suggestion for
33:05
you cuz my gut tells me you it sounds like you just need a temp
33:12
templating process and I I kind of have a something that
33:19
um I might have a something to help you out all right so that is
33:29
okay so this aha that's what I was trying to figure
33:55
out
34:25
okay
34:31
it's 14 and a quarter got a little bit
34:38
more get my rubber
34:55
mallet
35:16
okay so we're going to screw this in on these left and right side and then when we do
35:23
our Cedar pieces and they sit right here they're going to finish up this
35:30
they're going to butt right up against that okay all right that
35:46
works well I don't want to do that don't want to snap this in yet that will be
35:53
bad okay now let's see if this is
35:59
possible let me I want to see if it's possible to take out these foam
36:06
pieces when we let's see
36:18
here okay if we rotate it like that okay we can take it
36:24
out same thing
36:31
okay so the foam I was feeling like I couldn't take it out it's cuz it's just all this little sheet metal bits that
36:37
are out here they're just grabbing the foam so there's nothing really holding the foam back um okay we can move we can
36:46
move forward here so I'm going to go ahead and set this panel in with two
36:55
screws I just don't I've already got it in its
37:00
spot I don't I just don't want it to
37:06
move it's not that it may not change in the future it's just uh just a place to start
37:19
from okay now remember in this particular
37:25
okay if you are using this as ABC rig intended you would have have upholstered this panel um that sort of thing these
37:34
holes where ABC rig has this and I put the riv nuts those are not designed to
37:40
mount the panel those are designed to uh
37:45
have access to maybe if you want to put a piece of L track up here for running bags they also have a piece of
37:52
Unistrut that they sell that's in powder coated black with some end cap so this is forther unist strut install assembly
37:59
in the ceiling um but we're not we're not using
38:09
that so now that it's just move let's see if I let me just triple check our
38:15
measurements right so that's 13 13 and
38:23
3/4 13 man right that's perfect that normally doesn't
38:31
happen all right so again this is just
38:55
temporary
39:09
okay so that's defining our front to back and we'll re we'll take those out
39:14
we'll do the insulation lighting and stuff like that but these are the things you have to
39:20
do behind the scenes in order for everything to work
39:27
uh more in your favor later
39:33
um so now what we can do is I
39:41
can let's see yep I think I'm going to have to take the handles
39:55
off
40:07
right so now we got to go through here and we got to find I think it's a 10
40:25
millimeter
40:56
you
41:12
okay now we got our tool now we just got to find our got to find our uh 10 minute here 10
41:20
10 minute oh no that's very small maybe that's an eight
41:26
so what we're doing next is we're taking the uh taking the front headliner out not
41:34
out we're just going to be lowering it down
41:42
um there's pretty much no way around it because we just we just don't want to damage the headliner that's that's
41:47
really what we're going
41:55
for okay let's see I think it's a nut me
42:02
what is this so it's right where these handles
42:18
are and they're two different sizes that's I don't know why Ford did that I think one one's a 10 mm and the other
42:25
one's uh I think it's an 8
42:55
mm
44:17
[Applause]
44:29
yeah as soon as we
44:35
find eight it's eight okay so the back one is
44:40
8 millimet good
44:54
Lord
45:01
I'm telling you guys it's it's unbelievable these how they
45:07
sometimes I don't know blows my mind that there's two different sizes in the
45:12
same space so we don't have so let's go let's try to find a
45:19
seven trying to find a 7
45:24
mm
45:30
I mean
45:54
six [Applause]
47:54
for
49:19
you guys can see why I didn't want to take this out it takes
49:54
forever
50:05
see so now we can take this side down we're going to do the same thing to the other side and then we'll get back to building
50:12
the van I would say the most am not building
50:19
van the what takes the most amount of time is exactly what um you run into
50:24
where most of the stuff I have kits for so if I'm going to go work on the front of the
50:29
van or you know install a headliner thing
50:35
but after you've done that and you've worked on that part of the van you've moved on to another part you usually
50:40
don't you know keep all those tools
50:54
together
51:18
H where is that
51:24
socket
52:20
all right let's hop to the other side and get that one UND done
52:43
so this front one is 8
52:54
mm
53:05
so once we get this pulled down we're going to peel it back we're going to put the insul in insulation in and then
53:13
we're going to put our two screws in for the ceiling panels and just just want to
53:18
make sure we can you can locate it that's
53:24
all now I'm using a quarter inch for this
53:30
back one it's not the right one it's just shy of it so whatever the close does that is to
53:36
metric I don't know why I don't have it in my
53:51
toolbox and if you if you're going to install a headliner Shelf just know that
53:56
these four screws that I'm taking out that is all the support of a headliner
54:01
shelf uh so when you see them with uh you know a bunch of Nets
54:07
and able to hold a lot of weight it looks like it's you you really only have these four screws that's going to hold
54:14
all that weight so my suggestion or my advice is only use it to maybe hold your
54:21
insulative uh covers for your your van like your front window back window stuff
54:27
like that okay we're moving back in the van so hopefully hopefully you guys are still
54:33
here with me so let's pop this open there we go so now we got enough
54:39
room to get a screwdriver in here okay everybody's still here that's
54:46
pretty nice all right let's keep going so we've
54:54
centered the back so we don't have to worry about going front to back or side to side so now what we're going to do is
55:02
um need to get in here and just
55:08
set set some
55:15
things and so I want to set this in here with
55:23
pretty good amount of force because
55:31
I want it to be held as if we're uh putting it in its final
55:40
position okay all right that looks
55:48
good I have enough room to get this in
55:53
here okay let this
56:09
one now if if this was your final panel uh you might put some type of
56:16
furring strip or something to actually back this um but
56:21
the what you'll the challenge you'll run into is now now you're changing where
56:26
the rest of your ceiling lands and it might not be where you want
56:33
it uh okay let's I need a
56:40
longer screw
56:53
extension
57:01
other thing we're doing is we just need to make sure we uh are not drilling into something that we can't drill
57:08
into and we need to actually go very uh very slow with this because one we don't want to lose
57:16
the screw to the inside of the
57:23
van
57:33
and then pull this away from your drill because your drill is going to rub on it and make a big black mark on it you
57:39
don't want
57:53
that let's
58:23
see
58:30
so I'm changing my tool up I need to have a much longer extension to get in
58:41
there because the angle is very [Applause]
58:53
aggressive
59:23
for
59:34
okay all right we're getting back here so this is what I did I've got the uh
59:40
this big extension on here because I can't I need to get my drill bit
59:45
vertical and right now it's not at all
59:53
vertical here we
1:00:12
go perfect all that worked out
1:00:23
excellent the only reason this is so hard is you have to constantly be thinking of you know don't drop the
1:00:31
screw down into the front of the van it's not because you can't drill a hole
1:00:36
with a drill it's because if you accidentally slip and you lose the screw you have uh you have to remove
1:00:43
everything in the front of the van take the whole entire thing out it's really it's very difficult waste a lot of time
1:00:51
and I've had to do it once and I don't want to ever get myself in that situation
1:01:13
again perfect that's excellent heck yeah awesome so now this is this is
1:01:21
where it needs to be so if I take this off
1:01:28
we need to loosen that up that's too
1:01:35
tight here we got to loosen up a little
1:01:41
more okay it's going to be under a little bit of pressure
1:01:48
so let's take that pressure off a little bit
1:02:00
you guys can see I I taped my drill bit but I almost lost
1:02:22
it okay that's good let's loosen this up just a little bit
1:02:29
okay you heard earlier the wood kind of popping and cracking that's just you've
1:02:34
set the screw down too much we don't want to do that yet cuz we're not this is not our final install we'll tighten everything up
1:02:41
later because we'll do two screws and we'll do some more up here now now we're going to do what
1:02:47
we've been trying to do for the last 15 minutes and let put this hav lock behind
1:02:56
our headliner and we just need one piece uh
1:03:02
don't we don't want to stuff this too much if you put too much insulation in
1:03:09
and you can press it it's not going to have as good of insula insulating Value
1:03:15
Plus uh from doing the Venture wagon interior there's a there's a metal lip
1:03:23
and we are going to put one more piece but we're not going to be putting it on top of this if that makes sense we're
1:03:29
going to this piece goes down to here so we're just going to do one more piece like
1:03:38
that
1:03:43
okay so let's go ahead and cut a piece let's just uh take a measurement what do
1:03:49
we got so we need a piece about
1:03:56
a 10-inch
1:04:15
piece see
1:04:23
here we might be able to fold this it's a
1:04:28
little bit thinner than I
1:04:42
anticipated that's N9 in so we needed 10 this is nine that's perfect don't even
1:04:47
have to cut and we don't want this we want this
1:04:53
to go behind the roof uh support uh we don't want it to go under
1:05:00
it we want it to go behind so it doesn't pinch when we snap in
1:05:09
our other pieces
1:05:18
okay that looks good and then we're going to do a bat
1:05:25
just a little bit here a little bit here while we're in insulating
1:05:53
mode
1:06:33
so we took a bat folded it in half I'm just going to send it straight
1:06:42
down and again don't smush this in just make sure it can uh Loft think of this
1:06:49
as like a like a goose down jacket
1:06:54
and you know you want it to be able to Loft
1:07:00
not not be compressed that that's
1:07:06
perfect it's really with insulation your your controlling air if you can think about
1:07:14
it so like air
1:07:22
movement
1:07:28
okay so front insulated checked off our list we've got the notch we've got our
1:07:33
location for the ceiling panel
1:07:52
um okay so the front is
1:08:02
good all right Next Step I'm going to loosen the back cuz I'm uh if you're
1:08:08
wondering what I'm thinking in my head as I do this process I try to do stuff where I don't have to go back and do
1:08:15
double work so if this is already where I want it to be and I can already put my
1:08:20
insulation in there um what I'll do is I'll do that get this
1:08:26
in place so I don't have to take it down again uh and as long as I can put the insulation in from the back um I've
1:08:34
got I'm able to mark out where my lights are I can feed my wire in the back and
1:08:40
bring it across here to the left and I can kind of just check this front ceiling area off my list um instead of
1:08:47
going back and forth back and forth so what I'm going to try to do now
1:08:53
now is I'm going to take this back section
1:09:00
out and see if I can stuff it with
1:09:06
insulation the back panel of the van is uh that's our easy part the back two um
1:09:12
but this front area what we have is over here on the left you you can't see on the driver's side but we're going to
1:09:17
have a refrigerator microwave stack and um the challenge is is it's really light
1:09:25
placement uh we want the light poke lights in the ceiling to be in a in a
1:09:31
smart orientation so if we went with ABC
1:09:37
holes um it's too close to this panel right here uh which that would look weird the ones here are not going to
1:09:44
work because now you get your microwave here so we're taking a different approach
1:09:51
we're going to get the ceiling this part in um and then when we go to actually put our Cedar strips
1:09:58
in we'll start with the centerpiece and then we'll work away um left to
1:10:03
right and then as we the centerpiece as we move over we'll count you know let's
1:10:09
say one two 3 four and then we'll cut and do our Puck on the fourth run of the
1:10:16
Cedar and then we'll come over here to the right and do it on the fourth run so that it looks uh
1:10:27
professional speaking of professional I need to
1:10:34
Mark if you can do a lot of reference marks in your van as you're working it's going to help you keep because
1:10:41
everything's Square I know everything in the van is not square but out and you didn't really
1:10:47
mean to and you lost that all that work you did you can go back and now you have a
1:10:53
little Mark to show you what's going
1:10:58
on okay let make sure these are
1:11:04
loose let's take this
1:11:22
down
1:11:41
okay so now let's see if I can lightly maybe have this in the
1:11:49
center it's helping out a little bit um cuz we got a lot of pressure where these bolts
1:11:56
are I think it's time to take them out they're really there just there a pair of second hands for us
1:12:03
so let's take this out let's see what this does okay that's pretty
1:12:10
good so now we can there we go
1:12:16
so so we're kind of we're kind of using this as a shock absorber we don't go down too far because we're going to crack the wood at the front of the van
1:12:26
um that's just popping up there it's okay so now let's go ahead and we're
1:12:33
going
1:12:38
to yesterday we made this uh this strip right here so this is kind of like our
1:12:45
our legend or map of where we can drill into the roof beam and make sure that we
1:12:52
don't screw and then there's no metal to grab onto so this is what we're going to use
1:12:58
so when we get ready to put this in it'll be mapped out and uh we do it right the
1:13:06
first time all right so right
1:13:20
now we're going to put some insulation in
1:14:01
oh man King buns I did not see all these
1:14:08
messages so working on a 23 Transit extended High roof toall I wanted to
1:14:14
save some space of sleeping so I could so I did get flare space they are installed I then only went with surge
1:14:22
Supply walls and system yeah I've uh I've seen surge Supply a lot I haven't
1:14:27
used them but um I saw their kitchen Gall as
1:14:34
well they didn't have the models for the flare space so I'm going to trim the flares to the
1:14:41
walls I didn't even think of insulating above that I need to get that done
1:14:47
now oh I got you
1:14:52
um yeah I have to take a look at search apply walls and ceiling to see to see
1:14:58
how those go
1:15:22
in
1:15:52
for
1:16:01
so I don't like the pressure that these screws are getting up front so I'm going to I'm actually going to uh take them
1:16:14
out change our
1:16:22
approach
1:16:48
all right just don't want to lose them we don't lose them
1:17:32
this could all fall
1:17:38
so although that may be hilarious I don't want that to
1:17:48
happen Okay the plan is just for it to rest on that that
1:17:57
nope okay another
1:18:21
plan all right so we're going to jump to what we
1:18:27
did uh on the back door panels so we're just going to get some masking tape and
1:18:34
we're going to use that to hold that in there's other methods you can use like a net
1:18:40
material um stuff like that but this this worked well for the
1:18:47
back when we did it
1:19:05
let's
1:19:21
see
1:20:58
[Music]
1:21:04
okay we're doing it this
1:21:21
way
1:22:10
so I'm doing two on the curved area up front it's a little bit thicker or there's more
1:22:19
room um on this one
1:22:25
than the rest of the ribs in the van
1:22:30
so plus this will keep it from
1:22:51
shifting
1:23:07
okay so that's good all right so now we've got let's
1:23:13
see let's do a measurement I think we can fold a bat and do it on this back
1:23:19
side yeah I think we can do that
1:23:49
so if you didn't notice we are using havlock wool and when you're installing this and you
1:23:56
open the box it may smell a little
1:24:02
wild but I promise you it all goes away it just it will just takes about a day
1:24:09
or two so don't don't worry about what it uh initially smells
1:24:20
like okay now we're going to uh we're going to measure and cut a bat for the two sides so looks
1:24:29
like we're going to we're going to need something that's about
1:24:35
22 see
1:24:42
here see 24 see can we get rid we get away with
1:24:51
doing bat cut in half oh yeah
1:24:57
excellent so we're just going to fold this over and we're just kind to right down the middle and that's going to make up our two
1:25:06
sides all right King buns I'm debating pain for the flare space trim ring for
1:25:11
the interior to trim out the flares are attempting to build myself just very curvy and the depth
1:25:19
isn't consistent yeah I know what you're saying uh
1:25:26
actually this you may be interested in this
1:25:31
uh so go with me on this there's a there's a fabric that I like to use it's called four-way stretch
1:25:38
fabric and what you could possibly do is you could just upholster the whole
1:25:45
entire flare overlapping all the sides and then um
1:25:52
just have a very minimal trim ring that's just your transition between the outer flare on the inside of the
1:26:00
van uh here let's go the drawing pad let's see if we can answer this
1:26:06
really quick hold on I'm still here turn the
1:26:11
camera back on on this side all right let's get on the fancy
1:26:21
microphone
1:26:49
uh yeah give let's see here
1:27:06
know my comments are all messed up give me one
1:27:14
second so the question is would I insulate it uh with
1:27:21
reflecti what's going on with this computer give me one
1:27:34
second okay there we go all right um let's get rid of our
1:27:50
notes okay how's the audio there we go okay so if I had let's just let's just
1:27:56
say this is the side of the
1:28:02
van get rid of that red
1:28:10
color side of the van will well there you go taper all right so right here is
1:28:17
where your flare space is and so what I'm talking about doing
1:28:23
is taking uh that four-way stretch
1:28:31
fabric and just go really wide and this would be underneath your panels now
1:28:37
there's a couple things uh you can use to insulate it um so let me pull them
1:28:48
up all right so we're going to have uh there's something
1:28:58
called it's called din liner and Thomas um the Marine One van that we did
1:29:06
he turned me on to this this product and it's called uh it's by Dynamat it's
1:29:12
called din liner and it's a foam
1:29:19
uh you can get it in different thicknesses this one's half inch
1:29:25
thick and it's high acoustic absorption and excellent thermal insulation and
1:29:31
it's like it's like a peling
1:29:37
stick so see it's got uh that's what it looks like it's got this pilling stick it's a really good adhesive CU my
1:29:45
concern um for Thomas was when I put it in I didn't want it to uh pill back from the
1:29:54
van you know have issues later after I pster it um having to deal with
1:29:59
that so this is okay it looks like it's done a good job in his van however you
1:30:06
can do something uh it's called landal
1:30:15
foam so this landal
1:30:20
foam I think this stuff is more where is
1:30:28
it you can get on Amazon but this uh closed cell
1:30:33
foam and let me try to let me find
1:30:39
out give me one second I got to find out uh what's this this
1:30:50
adhesive
1:31:09
give me one second I'm trying to find this uh can of adhesive this one Builder
1:31:20
uses
1:31:39
so it's a 3M
1:31:49
foam there it is okay so this uh would be my suggestion
1:31:56
because it's it's going to give you the most strength so I've not done this but I've
1:32:03
done enough research to know if I just bought this I'd probably be fine using it so the adhesive you would spray onto
1:32:10
the flare would be this foam fast 74 uh spray
1:32:17
adhesive so here I'm just going to paste the details
1:32:24
okay so the 3mo fast spray adhesive is what is is what you want to
1:32:31
use for doing this
1:32:37
landal closed cell
1:32:45
foam and then this video
1:32:56
this is a video from ABC rig it's actually the company that I'm actually buying the
1:33:02
uh um the interior walk kit from and
1:33:08
so this is a video of him using the foam and putting it on the van and it looks
1:33:14
like this this is the more Industrial Way to do it uh so I was only using the D in a small
1:33:22
area um for you I would like I would use this
1:33:28
landal foam because the the flare space is such
1:33:33
a big area and I I really like 3M Products because if you use them as they're
1:33:41
intended uh it's it's a forever Bond so it says
1:33:46
right here you know high strength um really good aggressive tack
1:33:53
so it's really going to stick to that flare um because I guess it's fiberglass
1:33:58
or whatever I don't know what kind of coating they put on it after the fiberglass if it's just
1:34:04
paint but yeah I would do the landow foam and 3M foam fast 74 spray spray it
1:34:13
and then when you get the landal foam done then you're going to want to upholster it in this uh fourway
1:34:37
[Music] um I can spell
1:34:44
today I've got to grab some food here in a minute about to pass out um where is
1:34:51
is the four-way stretch
1:35:12
fabric me one second I will one second I will find this really
1:35:20
quick
1:35:50
for
1:36:09
[Music]
1:36:20
h man Amazon does not have it in my orders
1:36:27
that stinks stuff is really hard to
1:36:36
find so it's
1:36:43
Automotive four-way stretch carpet
1:36:50
Automotive okay here we go so they must have made a
1:36:55
different uh here this is it it's uh it's kind of what you wrap
1:37:02
speaker boxes in and um it's really nice it's it's very comfortable especially in
1:37:09
the uh where your bed area is but this is what I would
1:37:14
recommend um this is what I would recommend you
1:37:20
getting so here it is it's a humongous link um but that is for the
1:37:29
uh that's what I would do so what I would do is first get
1:37:37
your uh you know get your spray adhesive do the whole entire thing Let It tack up
1:37:44
um you know get your landal foam and uh you know make make that the
1:37:51
next step you know get cut the foam out uh use a roller to get it make sure you
1:37:57
don't get any Bubbles and then get your
1:38:03
um your four-way stretch fabric and just get just go wide around the edges and
1:38:08
then later what you can do is your panels are going to
1:38:14
cover I mean I don't know what those panels look like but they'll cover and kind of clean that up up and
1:38:22
but what you'll have is that uh that four-way stretch fabric you're going to
1:38:28
H it's going to you're going to see it so I think visually I think this might look
1:38:36
better you can use the four-way stretch fabric as your uh trans the four-way
1:38:41
stretch fabric is going to be your transition into your uh van panels that
1:38:47
makes sense so your panels we'll just do
1:38:53
that yeah I think that'll work for you all right
1:39:00
um let's see we're going to take a break I'm going to
1:39:08
um oh good lord I let me undo
1:39:17
that I'm G take a break I'm get some food and we're gonna I'm going to finish this uh I'm gonna finish doing that the
1:39:24
ceiling bit up here in the front knock that out um so I can move on to something else for our live stream later
1:39:33
tonight um but if you guys haven't checked out make sure you check out the DIY van build cheat sheet so this cheat
1:39:41
sheet if I can get the link
1:39:49
here come on you can do this um the DIY
1:39:54
vble Chichi is something I want you guys to check out it is uh the past three it's an Excel sheet that I created and
1:40:01
it's the past three years of all of my Amazon purchases for the shop so if anything I bought off Amazon for the
1:40:07
shop for a van build whether it's my personal van or customer Vans it's on this list the best thing about this list
1:40:14
guys it is completely free all you got to do is go to Van Builder hq.com or you
1:40:19
can click on the link in the description deson below but click on the link put your name and email address it'll come
1:40:24
straight to your inbox and this thing is jam-pack full of a bunch of stuff uh you

security solar the tool section is my most favorite so this has stuff such as
1:40:42
carbide solid carbide drill bits to get through that boron steel of the Ford Transit upper section deburing tools uh
1:40:50
rivet nut drill adapters to help you get rib nuts in easy with your drill instead of using the old crimp
1:40:57
method um felt tape uh I know it's not a tool but it's that's just where I put
1:41:04
it uh we got the propex expansion tool cutter for PEX a installs in your van um
1:41:10
then we got some water system stuff you know water pumps uh a bunch of information on here
1:41:16
definitely grab this again it's completely free just to help you guys out on your DIY van build and uh yeah go
1:41:25
ahead and grab it and before I head off this is also I want to talk to you about Odyssey
1:41:33
custom vans that is the van that I'm working on behind here it is a customer van um this is John and Susan's van
1:41:39
build so what's kind of cool is get your van build and it's it's on a live stream
1:41:45
so you can kind of uh you don't even have to check in with me to see what what's going on
1:41:51
um yeah but check out the website uh we've got a video of a van that we have currently for sale that we took to
1:41:58
Adventure van Expo to show off and this is our our adventure wagon interior
1:42:03
conversion build that we did uh and then we also um put a bunch of Flatline vanco
1:42:09
accessories inside the van they're Adventure wagon compatible so check that out um if you're interested in
1:42:16
purchasing this van it is currently for sale as of posting this video
1:42:21
are filming right now and below here we've got all of the amenities and
1:42:27
everything that we' put into the van so you can check that out uh we haven't made the actual van tour video we're
1:42:33
taking it to uh peace love and Vans at that's the uh the show it's going to go
1:42:39
