hey guys welcome back to the live stream it's been just a minute but I wanted to give you an update on what I've been working on in the shop and today what
1:29
we're going to be doing is going through Lonear update and uh we're going to use the van cam
1:35
inside to show you kind of where we're at with this build um made a couple
1:40
changes uh just because the layout of where the shower is positioned and the
1:46
fridge stack um is getting really tight to the driver's seat and so I'm just
1:52
going to walk you through what kind of got changed moved um things got relocated
1:57
and we're now back on track as far as
2:03
the plan on this van so um yeah I just want to take the opportunity to go
2:08
inside the van and show you what I've been working on so here is before I hop
2:14
in the van let's show you what is going on so if you looked at John and Susan's
2:20
van they had a fridge stack and looked similar to this one this one's different
2:25
because the top is going to be open so this is where we're going to have coffee maker stored uh the Starlink router as
2:33
well as the Starlink uh power supply is going to be located up there as well so it can be removed easily if they want to
2:40
take it out we get the Isootherm Cruise 130 fridge right there on the left and
2:46
as we come on down uh we've relocated uh the battery position and the inverter
2:55
uh charger itself and so I'll go over that and kind of what the plan is for that
3:02
um and the fuse panel so on the very left bottom left corner you can see that is
3:08
the fuse panel it is from the EcoFlow unit so the EcoFlow unit is
3:15
uh a 48vt battery system essentially and
3:23
underneath the fridge we have two 5,000 kilowatt hour batteries so a total of 10,000 kilwatt hours which is pretty
3:30
impressive for um an all-in-one system and then on the left side like I was
3:36
saying they've got the fuse panel so that's going to have your breakers for your 110 volt as well as your 12vt so the unit does take 48 converts it down
3:43
to 12 so you can hook up lights LEDs stuff like that now in previous live
3:49
stream we've already pre-wired the whole entire van so now we're simply just uh facing everything getting it uh finished
3:56
framed out but if we're looking at this picture um
4:02
originally I had uh actually let me I'll step in the van and I can I can show you this
4:08
well I need to move the camera so if we go to the right hand side we see the uh
4:14
the driver's seat all right let me grab some stuff in the
4:19
van real quick
4:40
all right now we can see everything so we got the driver's seat
4:48
swiveled around so we'll come across and come down
4:55
so this is in its rotated position so originally I wanted to have the
5:02
tetra van folding shower i wanted to have it right up against the wall but that didn't work because the structure
5:10
underneath the van I couldn't get it bun buted up against the wall because I could not I was not going to be able to
5:16
connect the outlet to the drain for the shower it was just too close to the chassis of
5:22
the van so that had to come out about three and a half inches uh which kind of
5:28
brings it into uh where the seat is and
5:33
not only that but when I folded it down and was standing in it and kind of
5:39
uh acting like the shower was there um
5:44
it felt a little cramped on the lefth hand side so what I did was
5:50
uh something that's pretty nice right now we I have someone working with me helping me build these vans um this year
5:56
believe it or not I've already got the whole entire year uh booked until the
6:02
end of December so now it's not a matter of dates it's just getting the vans
6:07
knocked out which is really exciting so that's never happened this is the first year we got everything booked out so
6:12
really excited about that back to the vans this tetra van shower
6:18
when it comes out I wanted a little bit more space so you can see on the left hand side uh instead of having the wall
6:25
panel come right out on the left hand side of the tetra van and if you guys don't know what tetra van is I'm
6:30
actually going to put the unit in here at the end of the video so left hand side
6:37
um it's opened up to where the fridge stack is and that's going to give us a lot more room as well as an area to
6:45
above that mount two things so we originally had the monitor screen
6:52
uh in vertical orientation and it was closer so it was closer to
6:57
the driver's seat um and now I'm actually going to get to the part of the video where I hop back in the van
7:05
let's see if I can get to it all right there we go okay let me hop in
7:12
and it'll make more sense from here on out and if you guys have any questions feel free to put those questions in the
7:19
chat okay
7:27
so my phone's going to be a little delayed inside the van but I think I got the framing right
7:33
all right so right here on the left hand side this is the top of the tetra van
7:41
and that is a folding shower pin again I'll point that out here um later in the
7:46
video but something cool that came up is by
7:51
extending this out um and the reason this got extended out
7:57
is this unit that was going to be placed near the dinette
8:03
or underneath on the left side of the batteries it just wasn't working out size-wise
8:09
this uh unit needs to breathe it needs to have access and the original plan was to have this uh lower down on the floor
8:19
still access but it might have been a little bit more challenging so I changed that we now have more storage area
8:26
underneath the driver side dinette in the back um but this unit had to come here so now
8:33
that this unit was here it did not make sense to have this space up here just come forward and just be dead space
8:42
um because I wanted to open up this area for the shower so imagine if this section right here was a wall and you're
8:49
in the shower right here so if this was a wall it'd be really it just it really
8:56
felt confined so by taking this dead space out and moving it all the way back
9:03
uh I'm going to do something really cool so I'm actually going to take this area
9:08
and I have a piece of 3/4 inch bamboo and I'm actually going to make a little
9:14
little uh like a countertop area so that this countertop area you know
9:21
you can sit stuff on it um I'd spoke with
9:26
uh Jim and Linda on putting in a grab bar for the shower um uh just for safety
9:35
and also you know you can hang a towel on this um or you can put clamps on this you know kind whatever you want to do i
9:42
found one that didn't look like a commercial grab bar this looks more like a a towel bar however it's ADA rated so
9:51
it's extremely strong and very safe and so today we're going to put this bar in
9:58
um but I wanted to extend this out and then we're going to
10:03
put a door down here to have access to uh this inverter so two things tonight
10:09
um grab bar inst installation we're going to talk about the 8020 and how I
10:15
put that in here to not only secure the grab bar but tie it into the tetra van
10:22
shower for strength and as well uh tied into the fridge jack to get the fridge
10:28
stack bolted into the chassis of the van um when you're building vans or even if
10:35
you're doing a DIY really consider um safety so consider
10:42
what would happen in the event of an accident so we never want that to happen but if it does think how this unit is
10:49
going to react in a situation where you slam on the brakes um or
10:55
uh rear end someone and so we're going to talk about that before everything gets covered up um
11:03
cuz tonight and tomorrow uh this frame will be finished and then the face frame
11:08
panels will um be being cut
11:14
so let's talk about the 8020 um this is a piece of fabric that I
11:20
haven't cut yet so we'll just pull this up to get it out of the way so what I've done is this 8020
11:27
vertically is mounted into the top and bottom of the the window frame of the
11:33
van so it's a really structural strong point of the van and the bar in the back is to tie in the
11:42
fridge stack and the bar here is to tie in the tetra van
11:48
what was pretty cool is after we talked about put doing the grab bar um that's what I'm I fabricated tonight is I cut
11:56
this bar there's another bar that goes right here that we're going to put a riv nut in over here to tie it in to this
12:03
side and uh this area has been really challenging uh build-wise because
12:12
it's not how it's built or what materials are used it's the finished look so I've been back back and forth a
12:18
lot on how the finished look is going to be um
12:24
originally this tetraan shower was going to put pushed up about three and a half four inches back and that would have
12:31
made a clean line from the back of it straight up and I'd be able to use just
12:37
the uh uh pre-fabricated panels that we purchased in the kit um can't do that
12:44
now so this is going to have to be a scribed out panel uh so just a custom uh
12:51
I was going to wrap it with fabric and then I thought
12:57
uh there's going to be a lot of humidity over here the top panels are going to be fine this is plastic uh
13:04
I did extra adhesive uh when I upholstered that top panel right there i'm not worried about the ceiling panels
13:11
but this panel right here um it's going to need to be a painted panel uh as
13:16
opposed to upholstered so that
13:22
takes another step of planning and so what I'm doing there I figured out what I'm going to do is tonight I'm locating
13:29
where the grab bar goes and we'll put some T- slot nuts here
13:35
we'll put some T- slot nuts here uh and we're going to use um
13:43
these T- slot I'm kind of on the fence so that we have locking T- slot nuts and we have roll-in T- slot nuts
13:51
and I'll put the roll in T- slot nuts in and
13:57
then if those don't work as far as locating this bar because when we have if you make a wood panel that goes over
14:04
this and I'm going to bolt it in there's going to be two hole saw holes
14:11
cut out for these two pieces and so once those hole holes get cut out the panel
14:17
will go on and this will go inset into those uh holes and then it'll be bolted
14:23
directly to the 8020 be super strong however those two bolts in here you need
14:30
to make sure that they can locate properly inside here so um I think the
14:35
rolling T-nuts will work i'll explain that if you've never seen what those are
14:40
yeah so we're going to mount the bar um there's like a little beauty ring here
14:46
that comes off uh something I'll be I'll be using some bit of adhesive on this because
14:53
this snaps on but you don't want it to rattle so uh
14:59
there's two ways to fix this i'll saw this out i may do a bit of felt on the
15:05
interior part of the wood and then that will make it uh to where it doesn't
15:10
rattle there's a bunch of holes back here so we're just going to find two of these
15:16
holes we're going to rotate it and align it to the 8020 drilled out to 5/16 and
15:21
then we'll have our two stainless steel nuts with a locking washer that'll install it
15:28
um the bar is going to go about right here this is 10 inches i need to bring it down and so once that gets in this
15:36
will be just like that um and again nice and clean you can mount whatever you
15:42
want to on it it's going to match the stainless steel of the tetra van and that's kind of the plan there so
15:48
that's all planned out um the next step
15:55
and I'm going to pick this up probably tomorrow afternoon but we wanted to have a
16:02
another monitor screen over here and I've been messing with the dimensions and um we got a 32-in screen
16:10
in the back this screen is going to be different we're going to do a 27in screen and uh Jim I found one that has a
16:18
KVM switch built into it and that's going to allow Jim to be able to plug all of his peripherals into the monitor
16:25
if he wants to so we got two options here he'll have a Lagoon table with his
16:31
laptop we can do one Thunderbolt port into the back of the monitor has a USBC
16:36
display port connection or if he wants to hook his stuff up into the monitor
16:42
he'll be able to do that as well so it's it's a it's a Dell monitor that um is
16:48
designed to have a lot of different inputs uh this is an RV
16:55
TV mount but it's we got Vasa 100 by 100 and that's going to mount the computer
17:01
monitor uh the TV in the back is a smart TV so it can be used as a computer
17:07
monitor uh it's 4K and it also has a remote control for like uh you know
17:12
Netflix and stuff like that um so right here we've got 28 inches in
17:18
height uh 14 and a quarter or 28 and a half inches so 14 and a quarter is the center
17:25
line and then 10 going 10 inches over to the center here
17:30
so what I'll be doing is I'll add another strip here and then we'll take
17:36
the microwave out and then we'll bolt this arm in so this arm extends a little
17:42
over a foot and it's you can actually tilt this out so if you loosen these uh
17:48
two nuts on the back here and they actually have um
17:53
let's see if I can loosen this right here i got the wrong size anyway so this will
18:00
tilt down so if he's in the driver's seat he can move this and then he can tilt the monitor down and still have it
18:06
vertical orientation and then this guy is just going to lock
18:11
into place and so in this van we have two locking RV mounts for the
18:17
for the monitors um again this will be a scribed panel that'll just bolt bolt on
18:24
so we'll probably do six screws here and bolt that on
18:29
and then we'll have all our wiring uh come through uh
18:36
the back so we'll probably just do power for example and then the last part here we've got um
18:45
wonder if I can actually tilt the video down let's let's tilt
18:51
this down
19:11
okay so down here we've got
19:19
this is where our tetra band is going to go i have uh I've got the Starlink pulled out here and I've got the Wabasto
19:26
control unit they don't go here i'm just feeding this through here so I can uh
19:35
finish just doing the cable management i may film the cable management tonight um
19:41
I'm just I'm going to work late doing some uh cable management pulling this back through i had it routed one way and
19:48
then I need to undo it and go behind this structure
19:54
and then I'm going to come up through here and we're going to plug everything um if you decide to get an EcoFlow
20:00
system uh you need to have access to this um when you turn the unit off they would
20:07
like you to also for long-term storage uh pull out the
20:13
solar connections to have the uh unit be completely dead solar is always on so
20:19
even though you turn the unit off it's still powered um so that's just
20:24
something if you do do long-term storage that's when you're out of the van for over maybe a month two or three months
20:31
six months you know a year makes sense um also make sure your batteries the
20:37
orientation allows you to access the power on off switch on the side of the battery
20:43
nine times out of 10 this unit is going to talk to the batteries when you turn it on it's going to automatically turn
20:48
the batteries on you don't need to touch them but in the case you need to manually touch them on or push it on
20:55
you'll need an access panel to do that so we'll have an access panel on the front we'll have an access panel here
21:03
um we'll just have a solid one down here and then this is the tetra van spot and
21:10
since we got the camera angle changed I'm going to go ahead and
21:16
let me move these wires
21:22
uh this will also show you how uh you'll be able to service the tetra
21:28
van um if you need to for some reason remove it um you need to check on the
21:33
lines so right here I have two I have hot and cold water each one of these will have a faucet fitting on them so
21:41
it's PEX A we'll have the fitting crimped and then at the end of it there'll be a fitting that's going to
21:47
tie into the tetropin unit itself so you'll be able to unbolt lean the unit out unhook it from these lines if you
21:54
needed to if anything happens to it so you really need to think ahead in that respect
22:01
also for tetra van when you're framing out the bottom here you're going to need to router out these bottom uh parts of
22:09
the wood there is a stainless bolt that's the hinge for the base and if you don't do that uh it's going to be
22:16
impossible to slide it in and slide it out um so this is all set let's get the
22:23
Let's go ahead and get the tetra van and have it come in
22:36
uh now this unit's really heavy it would be good to get somebody to help
22:41
you but I've kind of practiced on moving it around so at the back of this we've got our hot and cold lines and then the
22:49
tie over to the wand over here that you can use to spray
22:55
and then what we want to do is just gently bring this in
23:04
and we're using Fernco fittings at the base of this and the Fernco is what's
23:09
going to allow this to uh
23:14
uh be able to bolt and unbolt from the 20-gallon water tank up below
23:27
so once this pops into place and this one it's it's a perfect fitting
23:33
at the bottom so you really got to be careful when you put it in uh it definitely is a perfect fit there's
23:38
going to be a face frame here uh that we're going to be fabricating and that's going to allow it to
23:48
have a trim around it we're going to paint that uh white the same as that we did on the back
23:57
so these are just kind of acting as spacers as you can see
24:02
so you'll have a trim piece here and you also have a trim piece on this side and this side trim piece will clean this up
24:09
so you can't see any of the insulation um on the side here and this whole thing was offset a half inch so that that
24:15
panel can go right behind all this uh look really nice and professional
24:23
and yeah so that's how we have that's how we have this set up so it's going to keep this spacer in there
24:29
so it just uh leans in like that so there's the tetra van and that is how it
24:36
is bolted in we can undo it let it down
24:45
close it back up so those are the defined locations for
24:50
all this equipment so let's catch back up and move the
24:56
video back up we're going to put in these 8020 pieces we're going to tie the fridge stack into the uh
25:08
into the van
25:31
i'm going drop this behind the the tetra van just to get it safely out of the way
25:40
so over here so what I'm doing is I have a piece of 8020
25:45
and we have a 90 fitting and I've already started this um I was actually
25:52
working on this earlier today and really wanted to do a live stream for you guys to kind of catch up on what's been
25:58
happening um so I've already kind of pre-drilled this
26:04
just going to be really careful [Applause]
26:15
um this piece extending out here I'm going to cut that off uh probably not tonight but I will cut that off later
26:22
now what we're using is uh just a stainless steel bolt and a washer just like that
26:29
and that's going to allow us to we're actually going to go up from the bottom
26:48
uh but we do want to make sure we put a fender washer on there so we don't cut up through the wood
26:54
and then we'll have a lock nut but we'll also add a lock washer
27:06
and so that bolts coming up through here and what this does is this is not only
27:12
securing the fridge stack coming this way but also that way and then when at
27:18
the top of this we've got two uh angled brackets that are uh tied into
27:24
the side of the van as well
27:39
and the 5/86 nuts typically have a half inch
27:45
uh socket or wrench for the the nut that you're tightening
27:55
so you want to make sure you don't drop anything because it's uh it's very difficult to get it out at this stage
28:01
now I have everything is accessible if you did drop it it's just
28:06
it's more annoying than anything else
28:14
yeah but this has been uh pretty challenging just it's really the final form you know making sure the reveal is
28:21
right making sure things uh are level as possible square as possible um
28:32
and uh what's really nice is I I have uh I have a part-time
28:40
uh I guess you call it a contractor in the shop and he is definitely helping me
28:45
out really well um he worked for a van building company out west and he is back
28:53
in this area so he's with me for a couple months to help me with
28:58
all the builds that have been scheduled um this summer and then fall as well and uh
29:07
I'm excited about that he helped me build this whole entire thing while I was uh attending to another
29:16
repair but yeah I think it's look looking great um
29:22
super strong this this whole thing is very much tied into the van
29:28
um okay so we got that bolted in and then pretty much yeah every day just
29:35
going through here vacuuming the van out and cleaning all this uh
29:41
all this dust out all right let's begin to work on this
29:47
over here
29:53
so I'm going go ahead and cut this off with a razor because it is getting in my way
30:51
so I'm going have to loosen this and change the position
30:57
we've got another piece of 8020 here and I know the the
31:03
camera angle is going to suck but this is the best I can do right now um I'm actually going to get this right one in
31:09
first i've got a riv nut over here on the right hand side that um I'm using a Ford
31:16
Transit uh it's a hole that Ford already had there
31:22
it's about a millimeter or two bigger than the
31:27
uh I believe it's a 7/16 hole that you want to drill for these
31:32
but that's okay so I got a drill
31:39
going to use our rib nut drill adapter
31:46
with our 5/16-18 riv nut riv nut plus nut um couple
31:53
different names for this just going to bring it in right there
32:02
set our clutch to locked
32:09
then we just want to listen and feel for the tightness
32:19
if we overtighten it we'll strip the inner threads and that will make our riv nut useless
32:26
so we don't want to do that all right just one riv nut that's all we're doing
32:32
so now we need to get our right angle 8020 bracket with our
32:41
5/16 button head
32:49
uh button head cap screw i think that's what it is
32:55
all right so we're going to do that and then this is going to line up in here
33:01
and then wherever that lands we're going to measure it on the right hand side and we're going to bring it over to the left
33:07
and then where where it lands that is where we're going to uh
33:14
get it mounted
33:20
so it looks like I need to get another need to get another right angle
33:30
angle piece
33:58
and also if you guys have any questions or you're new to the channel feel free to put those in the comments i have so
34:05
many questions from you guys in the comments i've just uh
34:10
I am super busy at the moment um so I've not I want to make a
34:18
dedicated video going over all the questions uh that you guys have there's a lot of great questions i just uh
34:26
we'll have to do that probably in August
34:35
[Applause]
34:51
so I was trying to prep and put a kit together for this video today and so
34:56
trying to find my little kit of parts here
35:05
all right so let's talk about parts we got rollin
35:11
T-nuts so basically what these are is exactly what they sound like they're a nut that
35:18
rolls in and when it's mounted to the bolt kind of makes like a T-shape
35:25
and this is what I use for this so you can see that it slides in
35:33
that's an easy way to install it but the reason they're called roll in is if you're say this bar is already mounted
35:40
and I need to put a T-nut in here i can literally roll it in place and then put
35:46
my You'll see that in just a second
36:18
and also good news uh yesterday the I guess it Friday the uh
36:25
the front bumper that I ordered a long time ago probably almost two months ago
36:32
it finally has arrived so
36:37
and the vans that are on the schedule right after this van uh I've also been waiting on the the
36:43
wall panel systems that I get and they've taken uh almost almost two months to
36:52
get delivered so I'm hoping I'm hoping that means the uh
37:00
it sounds like this summer is a good things are going well for
37:05
DIYers building their vans and yeah if I can definitely help you guys
37:10
with any questions you have let me know but if you're
37:15
looking to build a van or diy it um go ahead and make decisions
37:22
on those parts because I have had to wait
37:30
right about four additional weeks for things that I've ordered
37:39
and then when you get them in you're you're kind of rushed to get them on so
37:51
I do I do try to calculate buffer time as best as I can but
37:57
even when I do that it's uh uh configuration or how um our
38:04
designwise sometimes things change
38:15
so one annoying thing about this is you need to actually screw one of these
38:20
bolts in almost all the way to allow adjustment for the other bolt so like this one I had it too far out
38:27
there we go so now it goes back in so now I can tighten this one down
38:35
yeah but so notes for you guys you're thinking about doing a van build this
38:40
summer just I would just go ahead and order the parts or whatever you can get
38:45
on order sooner than later
38:56
okay
39:02
so now you guys can see what I'm doing so again everything's I'm tying
39:08
everything into the structure of the van
39:13
so I'm making everything super nice and safe um
39:21
so these T-nuts I can slide up with my finger to find out where I want to put them be very careful
39:28
because if they fall just like this one did
39:39
make sure you have a way of catching it and then going down like I might have to actually move this if I had dropped it
39:46
so don't don't try to build in an area where you might be dropping these because
39:53
it's be really hard to retrieve them all right we're keeping these two loose
39:58
and we're starting to tighten these up so now what I need to do is
40:05
again nothing in a van is square so you really have to build something in the
40:10
van as square as you possibly can and then start to use that as a reference
40:18
i need to get a tape measure let's see tape measure
40:29
so for example the floor is my baseline get that as flat as I can tetra van came
40:35
up from the floor tetra van is square the sides are nice and true top is
40:41
square we're bringing this out it's square uh this this 8020 um
40:50
uh this is not perfect but it doesn't really matter in my case because of my
40:56
use case for it it's not needs to be perfectly square to anything it's this
41:02
plane is what I'm worried about i don't this is not that serious
41:07
but the van these these part here you can kind of reference it um and do that
41:14
so this one it's tilting in because that's the way the structure of the van is uh
41:22
but we have to do that because um
41:28
this is needs to be flush with this right here see and then this halfinch
41:33
panel goes on top of that and this halfinch panel is so that we can tie into this quarterinch panel and when we
41:41
have this reveal of this panel here everything looks nice not only that
41:50
we had to adjust this to make up for this so that this contour curve
41:57
uh we can put it in the panel so I actually had to move this up and move this down because I didn't want this to
42:03
go around up over that would look dumb so now we have a line here that will
42:08
continue just nice and easy so I mean all kinds of stuff like that
42:14
anyway this bottom piece right here is what we are now referencing so
42:23
we just we're just shy of eight and a quarter so
42:30
we got eight and
42:35
let's see no we're closer to eight and an eighth
42:43
so eight and an eighth so we come over here we'll get this to eight and an eighth
42:50
this should be really close
42:56
all right so that's eight and an eighth so this is all excellent so we'll tie in
43:02
these two first and lock them down question do I use
43:08
Loctite i do not um I have used AD20 so much in vans that
43:14
I've learned uh couple tips and tricks
43:19
the stainless steel uh lock washer that I use
43:24
actually uh cuts into this aluminum 90 bracket and it gouges itself
43:32
and it's almost so tight that I've almost when I tried to loosen these that
43:38
it's almost sheared the head off of the uh the button head uh
43:48
so I have no worry of these loosening up over time
43:57
you know 10 years down the road um I still think they would be fine
44:09
yeah because uh that's that's important i keep them loose until I really commit to tighten them so I that way I only
44:16
tighten it once and uh Thomas's van
44:22
his whole thing is built it completely out of 8020 and I've checked it a couple times and we're going on almost three
44:31
years and that one is doing just fine
44:36
and Thomas might be watching this video and he can even let me know how it's doing so that is part of the
44:46
van now this one let's go ahead and loosen it
44:52
so I dropped my wrench so we're going to loosen it
44:58
bring it down level to
45:04
eight and an eighth
46:00
so if you do what I'm doing it's possible that when I hit this down the
46:05
other side's going to move all right so you got eight eight and an
46:12
eighth and it did not move eight and an eighth so now these are perfectly level to this
46:24
and this matters because when we get the that face frame panel on
46:32
we don't want a crooked bar we want a straight shower and a straight bar
46:45
now we're putting a grab bar for the shower but you could put anything on this 8020
46:50
so if Jim later down the road if Jim and Lyn would want to put some type of accessory behind here or I don't I have
46:58
no idea whatever they want to what's nice to know is that
47:04
there's an 8020 piece behind here and um it can
47:10
you know be bolted into so this is now part of the frame of the van uh 100% it
47:16
is tied into it so I'm going to take this grab bar apart
47:25
um I'm going to go the drill press or maybe I'll just use my hand drill
47:32
um
47:38
to get these uh 516th holes drilled
47:47
and this is just uh something I got from Lowe's
47:55
i think uh Allen and Roth I think that's the name of the company
48:51
okay so if I pop these open
48:56
you can see we've got all these multiple ho holes um so one thing I want to do
49:04
I should be able to loosen this
49:10
um if they've not locked it in here
49:15
they might have done that okay okay so I'm going to go and try to
49:21
loosen this so I can reorient these holes straight and then that way
49:27
I can actually take this and do a test fit and just get this bolted into place um because I need to
49:34
test fit it so I can find out where I'm going to drill my holes for the uh panel and then that way we can put the panel
49:40
on here so let me drill this out and I'll be right back
49:46
if you guys got questions put those in the chat hey Linda welcome i'm going to drill
49:53
some holes in your grab bar but if you're just now tuning in
49:59
um just finished up the 8020 frame back here that's going to support the grab bar as well as the uh the shower area so
50:08
I made a couple of changes uh I talked about that at the beginning of the video but I'll drill these holes out and then
50:15
I'll get catch you guys back up to speed on what I talked back talked about at the early part of the video
50:26
so while I'm out of the van I'll tell you kind of what I was talking about um
50:34
so I needed to give you guys a little bit more space in the shower area
50:39
um not only that but relocate the box that provides your power and hooks up
50:46
the batteries and all that good stuff so couple changes um the changes are for the better because you got more space um
50:54
there's actually going to be like a mini countertop over there above the uh
51:00
foldout shower which will be pretty nice um but yeah I'm going to be off camera
51:06
for a second i need to work on
51:11
this grab bar real quick
51:30
okay so they definitely used they definitely used Loctite on this so
51:39
just got to be careful we don't mess up the uh
51:46
unit itself i think we'll be all right
52:36
okay so that is nice and straight
52:42
get the other side here
53:09
don't think I need to get on the drill press but possibly
54:01
Don't worry guys I'll be back on camera in just a minute
55:55
[Music]
56:34
well I think we're going to have to use a different grab bar because
56:40
we don't have enough i didn't want to get the one that looked
56:45
not like a towel rack but this one
56:56
so this is not the diameter is not big enough for the uh bolt head to
57:03
to fit in there so h
57:22
Okay I'll just temporarily put it in there this one's not going to fit but that way you give you guys an idea of
57:27
what it looks like
57:41
see if there's a way I can modify this
57:59
all
58:17
right I do have another 24 inch one in the shop let's see if we can get this one to
58:22
fit
59:12
[Music] this one is probably going to fit get it
59:18
out of here
1:00:03
oh nice he got on the phone uh let's see here i need to
1:00:10
drill some more holes and I'll be back on camera while you guys are watching
1:00:16
um let's see what you guys can see here let me go back to my computer
1:00:24
i'll give you an update before I drill that bar out
1:00:29
all right so at the beginning of the video um I'm just kind of redoing
1:00:34
kind of recapping at the start but down here we've got the
1:00:41
batteries on the bottom left so those got moved uh the heater is coming out
1:00:47
the tube is at the bottom left uh the batteries got reorientated so
1:00:52
that the power button can be located to be accessed uh behind a removable panel
1:00:57
on the bottom but because those got relocated uh we shifted the fridge to the left so
1:01:04
now that's flush with the kitchen galley so it's a nice clean reveal on both sides so there's not one is not
1:01:11
awkwardly further in the van and then one's not closer to the passenger and
1:01:16
driver seat if that makes sense so what that did was change the position of the
1:01:24
inverter charger the big box unit that you see there so that box it can be pos
1:01:31
oriented that way so that's safe so we'll have some louvers uh neatly placed
1:01:36
so that the air can come in cool that unit but that unit needs to be placed
1:01:42
right there uh because the battery cable power is not that those cables aren't that long and you can't get longer ones
1:01:48
um so that's where it new home is uh there'll be an access panel on the
1:01:54
front and then on the top of there uh you'll be able to plug and unplug anything as well as remove that uh
1:02:01
entirely in case you need to so the new thing is if you notice let me move up
1:02:07
here and I'll hop back up in the van but we've got this uh little like mini
1:02:13
countertop and we already kind of had that planned for
1:02:18
this left side right here so originally the fridge stack was going
1:02:25
to be here um but by shifting it back even with the kitchen galley we got this space opened
1:02:33
up for this unit so that worked out great but I didn't want to have all this dead space here and then as I've been
1:02:40
kind of in the shower filling out what you guys are going to feel like in here it felt a little cramped on this left
1:02:46
side so this space that wasn't used is just now opened up this will be where
1:02:51
the flat screen goes we'll have our second
1:02:57
RV monitor mount right here uh
1:03:03
and so that'll go right there uh we've got a 32-in flat screen in the back this
1:03:08
one is actually going to go down to a 27 in um so that it fits in this spot but this
1:03:15
extends uh a little over a foot so this whole thing as you can see extends as well as
1:03:23
angles down uh for the driver's seat so if you're using the computer
1:03:28
but the coolest part is that this right here is now going to be I don't know if
1:03:34
you can visualize that get another block of wood
1:03:39
but this is now going to be like like this so this is going to kind
1:03:45
of come out like that and so you're going to have like this
1:03:51
countertop area so you got more elbow room when you're taking a shower you've
1:03:56
got a place to set some things we've got the grab bar right here
1:04:02
and uh yeah so it was kind of challenging to try to get all this stuff
1:04:07
looks wild because uh I want the final reveal to be nice and clean i want the top to transition
1:04:15
to the bottom i want this panel and this to have a nice clean curve uh I adjusted
1:04:22
this and I adjusted this so that instead of having this big kind of janky up and down we're going to have this nice panel
1:04:29
that comes here originally we were going to repulsor this panel this bigger panel uh I'm
1:04:35
going to paint the same as this face panel here the one that goes in the
1:04:41
fridge the back of the fridge you know the one that's at the back of the dinette so this is going to be white
1:04:46
white it's with a Scuffex paint which is super durable but it's because I just
1:04:53
want to make sure that we kind of control the humidity over here um this is plastic fabric covered
1:05:01
and but this panel I just uh I think it's just better insurance for us to
1:05:06
have this to be uh more sealed for the shower area when you guys are using it
1:05:12
um we're going to reroute the power back there i'm probably going to do that off camera late tonight and then but really
1:05:19
this is going to be super nice and I just happen to have a piece of 3/4 inch
1:05:25
bamboo that will just fit this area so
1:05:30
you'll have your kitchen galley bamboo top and then I purposely raised this
1:05:35
this was actually lower and so I raised this to this so that the
1:05:41
final reveal height is exactly the same as a kitchen galley so whenever you guys
1:05:46
walk in or friends and family when they come see this van it's going to the kitchen galley and then this countertop is all going to be the same height so
1:05:54
it'll just flow really really nice so yeah a couple changes but um I think
1:06:02
this is just going to look it's just going to look excellent this is the
1:06:08
what it's going to look like well actually it'll be more a little bit more tighter how about that right there
1:06:13
um then the access panel will be here so um other good news that I was mentioning
1:06:20
at the beginning of the video is uh I've got a new hire in the shop and uh he has
1:06:27
worked at a van conversion company out west and so he's uh got family here in
1:06:33
North Carolina and he's been working with me the last two weeks doing an excellent job um really helped me just
1:06:41
dial in you know all the woodwork so uh we've got
1:06:48
more hands more hands-on but at the same time skilled hands and I'm really
1:06:54
excited about it all right without further ado let's get the other grab bar on here because I
1:07:00
have enough room with that one to get the uh the holes actually
1:07:07
enough space to get the bolts in so it is the
1:07:14
regular um what am I trying to say it's the regular
1:07:21
grab bar traditional might be another good word to use
1:07:26
all right let me grab that bar and then we'll I don't think I'll have to drill
1:07:33
to get those holes to fit
1:09:20
okay we'll just have to widen up these holes pulls just a little bit
1:09:58
[Music]
1:10:15
yeah the extra counteract space uh what what what I'm excited about is what it's
1:10:21
going to look like it more bamboo over here and the white it's going to look so
1:10:27
good all right let's get some washers
1:10:35
this is not the final install of this grab bar this is just so I can get the measurements so we can
1:10:43
uh
1:10:50
get the board ripped over here on the table saw
1:11:06
all right here we go
1:11:28
so actually for this bar this one's shorter so instead of going wide and you guys
1:11:35
can you can tell me on the chat we I mean this we're very flexible as far as where this is located
1:11:42
but I think center to the center to the tetra van shower is where
1:11:49
this would look the best
1:12:03
so you guys can see for you DIYers out there
1:12:09
i know 8020 is little on the high side but
1:12:14
it just allows you to very very in a very strong way
1:12:21
both dial in and kind of help get your
1:12:26
van build where you want it um let's see here
1:12:40
the flange on this is
1:12:47
I need other screws the flange is very thin
1:12:53
so we're going to go back to the
1:13:01
halfinch bolts
1:13:25
okay there we go excellent okay
1:13:30
we'll locate mark this and then
1:13:40
once the board goes in and we hole saw it then
1:13:47
we'll get our final
1:13:53
location for this so
1:14:00
right here now this is not perfectly center so what is centered
1:14:06
this handle right here so
1:14:14
we got this guy and again this is not the final position we're just
1:14:22
seeing where we want to put this
1:14:27
that's what we're going to do we've got 23 and a quarter and this bar is
1:14:35
21 in
1:14:41
so do 23 and a quarter 21
1:14:46
so we got an inch and an eighth so we need to come off
1:14:51
this about two
1:15:00
that's optical illusion inch and an eighth over here
1:15:11
12 and a half six and a quarter
1:15:16
right there
1:15:24
okay
1:16:00
[Music] sorry about that i'm sure the microphone sounds crazy
1:16:10
and so I'll get this on drill press this has only got two bolts in it but it's
1:16:15
already extremely strong then yeah this right here you know you guys can put uh a towel on it um
1:16:24
give you a towel rack you can get these ram mount clamps you can clamp stuff on here you know Jim when you're sitting
1:16:30
down if you wanted to put some gadgets here you know it's a bar you can clamp whatever you want to on it
1:16:36
um
1:16:43
cool so that is that we'll get this over here let's see what the next thing we want to do was
1:16:55
let's see what does that look like on camera
1:17:00
so this one's a This one is They make a 24 inch this is uh 21 in
1:17:09
i think I like it it's low pro you guys are in here you can
1:17:16
Yeah you can definitely grab it through the curtain there i would say there's no question about that
1:17:24
yeah that's nice okay all right
1:17:30
next She had some more pieces of this Baltic
1:17:37
birch get you guys like a visual kind of the uh
1:17:43
this extended space here uh I'll give you some measurements that'll probably do so believe it or not
1:17:50
we'll be able to have almost six inches of countertop space over here and then back here we'll have
1:17:58
seven and a half so we got 7 and 1/2 6 and 1/2 and the width on this side is
1:18:06
almost 21 in and this width over here is going to be
1:18:11
3 feet so 36 and 1/4 in
1:18:17
so 36 and a quarter by 21
1:18:25
yeah so as you guys can see this
1:18:31
have this panel back here in the back
1:18:41
all right what was the next thing I wanted to knock out so I'm getting ready to pick up that
1:18:48
monitor tomorrow so let's get a plan for
1:18:57
the RV TV mount so I've already mapped out where this is going to go let me get my square
1:19:54
Oh so also Jim the uh the top of this cabinet let me see if I can move the
1:19:59
camera the top of the cabinet well not yet the
1:20:07
top of the microwave the height of this is perfect so that you can
1:20:14
store the coffee maker up there so believe it or not the whole
1:20:21
the whole fridge stack has been designed around the coffee maker
1:20:28
and it I mean the battery height to the fridge height the clearance between the
1:20:33
fridge and the microwave and the battery pack
1:20:39
we had I had just 3/4 of an inch to play with so that everything worked out and
1:20:44
uh it worked out perfect so I was happy i was getting to the top of
1:20:49
the fridge stack and I was wondering if the coffee maker was going to fit and it fit so
1:20:56
that was good um yeah let's get some
1:21:05
some half inch temporary screws and line this up over here
1:21:13
all right for the RV mount we are we got about 10 inches and 10 in for the center
1:21:19
we're coming up 14 and a quarter see if I can get this
1:21:27
with one handhold now I will be having an additional
1:21:33
support bracket in here um this is so that tomorrow when I get the monitor
1:21:40
I can play around with the functionality because even though I measure this and
1:21:46
it's perfect real life uh sometimes it's different
1:21:51
all
1:22:11
right don't do what I do and use drills as hammers okay
1:22:18
so that is theoretically where we're going with the monitor we should have
1:22:25
should have 28 in
1:22:40
10
1:22:46
yeah it's a little high
1:22:53
i forget on these mounts this is our final the bracket is not in relationship
1:22:58
to the monitor so we got to change that
1:23:14
so we'll lock this in and then we'll mark this
1:23:22
all right so for the DIYers if you have one of these mounts these RV mounts this
1:23:28
that mounts to your TV this is called a vasa mount the out outer ones you're
1:23:33
going to typically be 100 by 100 so it's 100 millimeters by 100 millimeters a
1:23:38
typical computer monitor will always fit that um TVs sometimes are different but
1:23:44
typically will have that same mount depending on the size that you get so if
1:23:49
you're looking at me this right here is where I've measured my halfway point
1:23:55
between the top of my fridge stack and the top of my so not
1:24:01
this wood but the top of my countertop so that's that center and
1:24:07
then secondly right here this mark is my uh
1:24:14
other reference mark so what I need to do now is
1:24:22
we want the release mechanism to be on the bottom so you're not so this is not dangling on
1:24:28
the on the top so you know Jim and Linda you can actually you can cut this off
1:24:33
you can make it smaller or shorter but uh this is this is so that
1:24:41
um you don't want to have it too short to where you can't unlatch it i I I personally would just leave it like this
1:24:46
uh maybe you put like some felt here or something like that but this is what
1:24:52
locks the monitor so that if you hit the brakes or whatever your TVs aren't moving around in the van so you definitely want to get a lock in version
1:24:58
of this i see a lot of DIYers just buy a normal wall mount uh but I would get the locking one so
1:25:04
that it doesn't come flying around your van when you're driving so if we follow this we have our center
1:25:11
line here so that is very on the edge so I will definitely need to
1:25:20
uh I'll definitely need to I knew I needed to add in this support
1:25:26
um just wanting to see where I
1:25:34
would like the final support to go
1:25:40
okay
1:25:55
and then what I'll do is when I take the microwave out I can I can bolt this in i mean really if uh
1:26:03
this is screwed in Craig screwed this is going to be plenty strong to get this
1:26:09
there should be there will be no issue of strength yeah so we'll do we'll do six we can do six
1:26:18
six pieces to mount this okay
1:26:23
so just for video purposes we'll we'll just mount this temporarily
1:26:37
be right on the edge
1:27:01
okay so this is where this is going to live um
1:27:07
again Jim what I was saying for the driver's seat there is uh
1:27:16
there's not a ro this does not have rotation on it um you can buy a rotation
1:27:21
adapter mount um they're very expensive but I don't think you're going to need that uh because the plan was to kind of
1:27:28
keep this vertical but this will extend the monitor towards
1:27:34
your driver's seat we're coming we'll be coming out 14 in so the arm So I'll sit
1:27:42
down here in the seat i'll change the camera angle
1:27:48
we'll go over ergonomics just a little bit
1:27:55
okay so there's the TV mount come down
1:28:04
my camera go down more there we go
1:28:12
so we've got the T we got the chair all the way back
1:28:19
and so see what it Let's see what my phone says
1:28:25
what's the video look like all right so we're in the seat um we're
1:28:30
going to have the Lagoon mount believe it or not this is this will be
1:28:36
mounted actually to uh the passenger seat with an offset
1:28:43
so you will not have to rotate the passenger seat in order to put the loom mount in you can put it at in at any
1:28:49
time as long as the seat is facing directly forward or directly back so if you're by yourself working on the road
1:28:56
seats facing forward you can mount this or you the mount will be there but the
1:29:02
pole you'll just put the pole there and that's going to allow you to take the table and push it out of your way go to
1:29:09
the back of the van and then bring the table in um because the original plan was to have
1:29:15
it over here but there's no way for
1:29:22
your table arm it's would make it very just extremely
1:29:27
difficult to get out of the seat and so we're moving the arm over here to the passenger seat
1:29:34
all right so you're in got that table got your table here the cool thing is you can do the table long ways or you
1:29:41
can do it width ways that so the width is why I needed to move it to the passenger so you're going to have that width so you can have your mouse and
1:29:48
keyboard so here's my arms extended out
1:29:53
so my arm is if I extend it all the way out i know this is terrible
1:29:59
video here but I'm trying I'm measuring distance i'm not doing anything else uh
1:30:05
that's 11 in so the monitor can also tilt down so the monitor can tilt and so
1:30:13
the monitor is going to be probably right so if this is my my palm
1:30:20
furthest the monitor will be away from my palm is 12 inches so I think I think
1:30:25
that's going to work for you um
1:30:31
I guess so a question that I have was uh if you guys are still tuning in
1:30:39
visually this is going to make everything look nice and and pretty over here as far as this being centered
1:30:45
um I think Jim if you have your monitor and you can lean it down
1:30:51
uh you'll still be able to you'll still be see it just just as well um however
1:30:57
if you do want it a a bit lower um
1:31:07
[Music] let's see if you do want a bit lower we'll have to
1:31:13
we can't go too low because it's going to hit the countertop so I think what I'll do is make a a design decision on
1:31:20
my own to make sure that uh it looks appropriate when it's closed
1:31:25
in and it's not too low to the I want it to be center at the top to
1:31:31
bottom and center left to right i think that's I think that I think you may agree with that um
1:31:38
because we would only be able to bring the monitor down maybe an inch or two and I don't think it's going to even
1:31:44
make a difference from where it's at so if this is again this is my my hand touching the monitor the distance uh
1:31:54
from my hand is 11 in so that's not that far away and then again if you need to
1:31:59
tilt it you can probably get it three more inches or four more inches down so
1:32:05
you'll have this nice setup here and then so if I'm pointing at the
1:32:11
monitor I know some people might think this is silly but this is it's ergonomics guys
1:32:18
you want the van to feel comfortable so nine inches there you go so it's only
1:32:24
you're only nine inches away um
1:32:30
let's see here oh man that would be funny i'm I'm gonna
1:32:37
write some notes here really quick
1:32:52
okay so grab bar check monitor check so now we
1:32:58
can put the this rear panel on pulse saw these holes out same with routering out
1:33:04
the panel side of the fridge um you do have a waterproof cover it's a nice
1:33:11
velcro waterproof cover for the monitor itself so that whenever you are in the
1:33:18
shower uh you don't have to worry about getting the TV wet
1:33:24
u we'll have this panel here enclosed and insulated behind there this whole wall will be again packed with
1:33:30
insulation um back behind the fridge and the microwave we'll just have one piece
1:33:36
of inch and a half 3M thinsulate so we can still have some nice air flow back
1:33:41
there and uh yeah so we've got uh so Mark's
1:33:50
coming in tomorrow he's the one that is assisting me in building in the shop right now which is really exciting and
1:33:57
so he's going to help me with uh we're going to finish out these face frame panels and get
1:34:03
everything dialed in um for the next two days and so the framing
1:34:10
will be complete uh may actually be complete tomorrow and then we'll work on
1:34:16
uh get the face the face frame is the exciting part because once that's all
1:34:21
cut out the next step is painting and then those panels they go right on top of this uh
1:34:27
so it's really exciting um
1:34:32
and then the next steps would be to come here to the front of the van get this uh
1:34:39
strobe light wiring fed through the dash it's already taken apart and it's ready to go it just hasn't been fed through
1:34:46
and finally finally this Friday we got the bumper the bumper came in finally uh
1:34:52
it has taken forever for it to come in it's finally came in it's in a box right over here
1:34:58
so we can take off the front bumper get that mounted and get the lights going
1:35:05
and keep on trucking but uh let's see what time is it i think this
1:35:11
is a shower cap for the monitor i ask what it
1:35:17
is um it also fits the rear TV too uh
1:35:24
it's a little it's a little big for the It's perfect for a 32 inch it's a little
1:35:31
big for a 27 but um they only make it in 27 to 32 and then
1:35:38
27 to you know 19 uh but this is what it is it's called a porch shield it's
1:35:45
actually made for outdoor TVs that are on porches and patios so this is the bag
1:35:53
the bag has a middle section that velcro is open so you'll just undo that Velcro
1:36:00
uh you'll take the monitor snap it into place and then this bag
1:36:08
will just come right across there um
1:36:19
so the bag is approximately
1:36:25
probably two 2 in two and a half inches height wise maybe too big but um the
1:36:34
width wise is really nice but this will actually I'll play around
1:36:39
with it here so go over your wires then you just take the Velcro
1:36:47
velcro it together and then you just wrap it around the back
1:36:56
just like that
1:37:12
hold it there there you go
1:37:20
yeah so that'll give you a little uh here i'll zoom out
1:37:32
so this will
1:37:38
Now obviously if there's a TV it's going to fit better around it but essentially that's what it does this is some uh
1:37:45
waterproof cover for the TV
1:37:53
um and so you may have missed it the we were going to do two of the same
1:37:58
monitors so the same that it's in the back so the back one is a 32
1:38:04
uh inch and it's a smart TV with a remote control you can have you know Netflix uh
1:38:10
YouTube all that stuff the one behind the driver's seat that one is going to be a Dell monitor 27 in
1:38:20
um with built-in USBC display port so it can directly connect to your
1:38:26
Inspiron 30 Thunderbolt 4 port uh is and it also has a built-in KVM
1:38:33
switch so the KVM is our backup in case you wanted to directly connect your keyboard and mouse to the monitor um so
1:38:41
on the right hand side which would be the bottom typically of the monitor you're going to have multiple ports for
1:38:48
uh connecting everything and uh and then I did a pretty cool
1:38:54
feature i routed a cable from the back of the van TV to the front
1:39:02
so if you wanted to display something on the
1:39:07
uh TV in the back there is that capability
1:39:14
so So that's that um so next step is just getting that panel cut to size and
1:39:21
putting that over the top cutting the bamboo countertop
1:39:27
and then face frame for the um Petra van and we should should be good for this
1:39:34
portion of the van um
1:39:39
yeah so actually let me get my phone so I can see if you guys have any questions
1:39:54
all right so here we are we're back to the face cam this is the bumper for the front so
1:40:02
it finally came in um so we'll get that unboxed and get that put on
1:40:09
but yeah guys that is going to do it for the live stream tonight want to thank everybody for joining jim and Linda
1:40:15
thank you guys for watching as well um feel free to put any questions you guys have in the chat if you guys that are
1:40:21
watching tonight get subscribed share the video to anybody who's working on their van and might want to do a setup
1:40:29
uh like this so kind of hybrid of wood and 8020
1:40:34
um 8020 is really there you know for safety it's you really want to I can't harp
1:40:41
anymore on really trying to tie wood structures that you build in the van into the 8020 you don't have to do
1:40:47
the whole van in 8020 but you know use ribb nuts get that get that structure
1:40:53
built into there would be my advice um yeah that's going to do it tonight i'm
1:40:58
gonna head out of here and uh get ready for tomorrow uh Mark's coming over right
1:41:04
at nine o'clock and we're gonna get back on the van keep on trucking so yep we're
1:41:10
getting this thing done um yeah thanks again for watching get subscribed uh don't forget to check out
1:41:17

1:42:25
uh video in there that's not available anywhere else and I walk you through a real life used van purchase
1:42:35
uh so there was a couple that I built a van for u
1:42:40
so it wasn't this one obviously it was a different van but they were looking to buy a van they found one uh and I said
1:42:47
"Hey before we use this as a platform to upgrade why don't I go out there and check the van out make sure it's
1:42:53
nothing's like scary about it or whatever." Went out there the van actually looked pretty good um they
1:42:58
wanted to upgrade the kitchen galley and some stuff like that but I looked under the van it was completely rusted out and
1:43:03
so looks can be deceiving the paint was great but underneath the van it was just complete rust and I told them to pass
1:43:10
but I actually took I'll take you guys through that uh through the video that is uh solely uh with this course so
1:43:18
check that out and um yeah those two things and
1:43:25
we will uh I'm hoping to do an update video Tuesday i'm not sure tomorrow I'm
1:43:31
going to be really working on this again so might we may do
1:43:36
one tomorrow late night not sure anyway Jim and Linda thank you guys for tuning
