hey guys welcome back to the live stream tonight we're going to continue the progress on our van Bill proposal
1:00
um let me go ahead and pull it up
1:09
here so what we're doing is we're working on putting together a quote for a customer
1:15
and I thought since I'm working on it anyway um it'd be good to just kind of show you behind the scenes um what I'm
1:23
thinking when I'm going through looking for parts updating prices and stuff like that I did have a comment
1:30
in one of the videos or uh from the last video and it was really good so I wanted
1:35
to bring it up and by the way bring your questions tonight into the chat um I
1:40
want to answer them um if you have to uh yeah I'm curious what you guys are
1:46
thinking when I'm doing this that's pretty much why I'm doing it live um so one of these questions right here was uh
1:54
an approximate total cost in your spreadsheet so uh Vincent
2:01
um he asked that question and so I'm going to I'm going to try to answer that
2:06
tonight so what I did is I went through and cleaned this up I pretty much deleted any business stuff in here um so
2:15
any customer information or business stuff I just deleted it so this is just now it's kind of turned into like a
2:21
teaching spreadsheet which uh might be uh interesting for you guys that are
2:27
watching but what this is it's just a simple spreadsheet of all the components that I put into a van build um and it's
2:35
kind of like a template that I have so it's just over the past couple of customers
2:41
um this is kind of grown into a starting place for me because it gets really
2:48
complicated van build wise um and the what what's complicated
2:55
is uh I do custom vans
3:00
and I wanted to do um I'm still not opposed to it but doing like a spec build which a spec build is essentially
3:08
I build a van it's not really built for anyone but it has all the uh amenities that most people would like um and some
3:16
things are kind of compromised um but what that turns into is that van gets people excited about my
3:22
work because they can see the quality of the work what components I use um but there's something that they always want
3:28
to change which makes complete sense if you're trying to build a van just for yourself so um what happens is that list
3:37
gets customized and then further customized so I need kind of a a place to start from so this is a this is the
3:43
ground up so this form that I'm going through uh you can kind of think of it as this is the starting
3:52
Place uh for your the build process and
3:57
um so I'm going to start building this and if you have any questions on how I'm
4:03
making decisions on this stuff um feel free to ask but we're going to pick up where we
4:09
left off uh anything in blue has already been I'm pretty much that's part of the
4:15
quote anything that's left open is something that I haven't made a decision on yet
4:22
um so like for example like the toilet like I'm going to do trino
4:30
trino medium and so I'm G to go to
4:40
trino trino toilet and we'll just go in
4:47
here so this is the one I used in uh John and Susan's van
4:54
um and we did the medium size
5:03
dark gray medium let's see if I can
5:09
find the Evo series medium so I'm just going to copy
5:17
this um a lot of companies are using the word composting and I think that is
5:28
uh I think that's a market has turned into more of a marketing word um when
5:34
you use these toilets you're not really there's not really enough time for this is my opinion but there's really no time
5:40
for them to compost uh in the sense of the word so
5:47
you're going to throw away and dispose of whatever you did in the toilet um for
5:53
example so yeah if that makes sense
6:05
and this trino toilet uh the cool part about it is has this urine diver urine
6:11
diverter and what a urine diverter is is you're separating you can extend the life of your solids area
6:18
um are the you know how much solids are being uh put in here uh so the UR
6:25
diverter is the liquid side and because you separate it you the solids can remain dry longer and then you can just
6:33
you know take that out less than opposed to each time I think most
6:40
uh people that are doing this in a van um if they do have to use it I'd say
6:46
each time it's probably going to be taken out and cleaned so this composting thing again I
6:51
think this is more for helping it be a search related term because basically
6:58
all this is is it's just a plastic box
7:03
two separate Chambers and a uh a section that diverts the urine um they don't show the photos of
7:11
it but underneath here there's a jug and The Jug is separate from the basket in the back and
7:19
um um it's it's uh when you get it it does feel really light and you're
7:24
wondering maybe why it's $500 the reason is it's very Sleek this lid top looks
7:30
it's very comfortable um and it's just it's dead simple
7:39
so uh yeah and it doesn't weigh hardly anything this one weighs 9.5
7:45
pounds and it's easy to clean so um comes with some bags that
7:52
sort of thing so yeah I think it's a good just very simple product for Vans
7:59
you can use in case of emergencies or you can just use it regularly but the the the bonus of this
8:06
is you're not having to add chemicals powders anything like that if you decide to use it um again I don't really like
8:14
the word composting but if you're using it in a composting sense that tells me
8:20
that you're probably wanting to take the solids area and maybe put some like coconut husk or uh some type of like
8:28
wood chips or uh something like that to cover that up and cover up the smells
8:33
that's okay but I just want to uh my opinion is you may do that two or three
8:39
times and then you're going to tie it up and throw it in the trash can um I don't
8:44
think you're going to be actually taking that bag out and making compost out of it so again just my personal opinion on
8:53
that so if you buy this just think of using it for emergencies and just the convenience of maybe there's not a place
8:59
to stop um or you're going out into uh uh like the Wilderness for a couple
9:05
days and you want to have just a a neat place to to do this
9:11
um but I like how it has fixed Dimensions it's very lightweight and uh
9:17
as a builder I can build around this footprint and
9:22
um when I go to design the layout it's really easy to find out okay where is
9:28
this thing going to fit um and then I don't have to worry about
9:34
drawer slides or anything like that because the weight is very light uh
9:40
relatively okay if you guys are just now joining what we're doing is we are working on uh this proposal that I'm
9:46
working on for a customer and instead of just doing this behind the scenes and you guys not knowing about it I thought
9:53
it'd be fun to invite you to show you how I'm picking and choosing and kind of building this uh one question from the
10:00
channel was uh pretty much can you add the approximate total cost into the
10:05
spreadsheet and so what I've done is I've taken all my business stuff away that way we can kind of see a running uh
10:12
Parts total right here and so down here what you're seeing is just a basic formula that's taken
10:19
into consideration a couple things that help dial the quote in for the
10:25
customer um so I start off with a basic number for shipping let's just maybe
10:30
change that to 2,000 um and then we've got some taxes
10:38
here um and so that kind of covers a couple
10:43
of the additional cost that has to do with parts or has nothing to do with parts but is part of the overall cost
10:50
and then this one is our this is the number we probably always want to look at now down here the stuff that I
10:55
deleted this is where I would have my cost so my labor
11:01
um and I calculate that as a a percentage
11:07
of parts and then if there is specific build components so say for
11:14
example um uh these let's see
11:20
here let's take uh the window
11:29
so for example um the window there would be a cost associated with installing the
11:35
window at a certain rate so if you have like a window there's a window rate like a Max fan an AC rate that sort of thing
11:44
and so what I do is I'll do the main quote first and then uh when I'm talking to a
11:50
customer I I really try to have them tell me you know what is their number um
11:58
I don't want that I don't want them to think that that number is going to influence how I
12:03
change what I'm charging I I want it to be an honest number of okay I've saved this much up in my bank account this is
12:10
what I want to use for the van you know what's the best way to use that and so
12:16
right off the top I take that number um I take out what I think the labor is
12:22
going to cost to actually get the job done and then what we have left over is
12:27
this Parts number so for today's example let's just say that that part's uh budget is uh
12:36
$40,000 so that's our goal let's just let's make that green so we feel
12:43
good about this being our budget and so right now I've already got about 30
12:49
um and there's probably going to
12:57
be uh
13:04
so right let's see where am we going to put this
13:14
um I need to add something and this is just kind of my gut telling me this
13:19
information but uh so fridge
13:31
stack fridge Stack Storage fridge deck storage
13:39
and
13:45
shower unit this is a special item that my gut is telling me that we're going to
13:51
put together for this customer it's kind of like what John and Susan has um but I think what we're
13:58
going to be doing is building something
14:03
um okay what you're seeing here this is behind the scenes of the van build
14:08
course so I'm actually going in and referencing my own course that I created if you guys are interested in this uh I
14:15
just put together um a DIY van building course so if you go to Van Builder uh
14:24
HQ um and go to uh camper van conversion blueprint it's under the course tab on
14:30
the website uh it's 50 bucks what's nice is it's going to cover all of these
14:35
modules here and I do a bunch of Le they're all lectures so if you go into it what
14:42
you'll see is these courses on the left intro you know choosing your van um
14:50
that sort of thing and each one of these is uh a lecture me going through a
14:57
PowerPoint that I put together so you got all of these different
15:02
um uh modules that you can learn from and it's funny I needed some
15:08
information for my own course so what I did today is I just downloaded my own PDF on this computer so I could go
15:15
through and show you guys today um uh some examples that uh I'm trying
15:22
to reference some examples to figure out you know what I'm going to use uh so for example
15:29
this something like this is what I'm anticipating uh this customer is looking for uh because a shower is important to
15:36
them um but I'm not really sure how I'm doing the storage and stuff like that so as I'm building the quote I'm kind of
15:42
thinking about what I'm going to put in their van so this fridge stack shower storage unit
15:49
thing uh what that is is if I go to wa let me finish this so here's the course
15:57
here's all the modules that are included in it here's a link that you can click on to access it um it's a ton of
16:05
information it's all the knowledge they have building vans last three years it's
16:10
all the stuff from the shows super high quality photos for you guys to check out a lot of my sketches um videos uh to
16:18
supplement um there's an exclusive video on how to actually buy a used van and what to look for um that's never been on
16:25
the channel before it's exclusive all the lectures in here here are exclusive to the course so they're not available
16:31
anywhere else nothing online that's when you're getting when you pay for it um the bonus that you're getting in this
16:37
course is that there's a new Forum on the
16:42
website and this forum by being uh by purchasing the course you get to come in
16:48
here and ask me questions personally I'll answer them um so if you're not
16:54
enrolled in the course uh you can see when I have answered them but you
16:59
um won be able to participate in the direct question asking uh now you can hop on the live
17:06
stream like we're doing today and you can ask me any question you want in the chat I encourage that um I'll be taking
17:13
those questions from the chat also putting them in here to build these uh answers to a bunch of
17:19
questions so um yeah it's really exciting and uh for example here was a
17:25
new Builder asking for him some advice
17:31
and uh this question right here um we went
17:38
through in a live stream and what I'm going to do is I haven't got back to this one yet but uh tonight I'm going to
17:47
be talking about some tetran showers and some options that I'm thinking about
17:52
quoting for this customer um so I think I'll be able to get my answer for this uh tww transits
18:01
question right
18:06
here uh oh yeah so they were going to send me a PDF layout
18:15
so need to find out their email anyway that's part of the course
18:20
so check that out if you want to buy it can't prent conversion course blueprint I
18:27
will I'll put the link right here in the description if you guys want to check it
18:33
out help support what I'm doing here with the channel and the blog and don't forget van Builder HQ is
18:42
a Blog there are tons and tons of articles that we've written addressing
18:48
all kinds of aspects of DIY van building so there's tons of stuff here it is a Blog website you can find a bunch of
18:55
information already on the site all right all right so back to back to the uh van build proposal so
19:04
this fridge uh shower stack this is something that I think is going to be pretty chunky part of the project um so
19:13
it's custom work uh I'm just going to estimate that um and about 5,000 for
19:20
that um now that is not including materials
19:26
um that might be the materials for it so that this just kind of gives me a placeholder to think how am I going to
19:31
do this um since they're looking for something like that so now we're getting
19:36
closer and today we're just going to finish up dialing in some of the stuff um on
19:44
here so uh we started talking about the power
19:52
system and we talked last video about doing with this ecoflow and there is a
19:58
ecof flow and vellet rooftop ADC uh
20:04
combo so this thing's pretty cool so I I shop for this the other
20:11
day and um yeah so right here eof flow 5 kilow
20:21
Hour good system um so I got that set up on the list so let's go through couple
20:28
other power things um that I think we're going to do so we got this
20:34
uh these
20:43
outlets and these things are awesome um they got a fast charge USB port on them
20:49
so this is something on Amazon and the USB type uh a port as
20:55
well and it has this independent on and off button so this is a really really cool product um so this one is I think
21:03
this is 1 for 15 so I'm just going to come in here and check this out so CSA
21:08
is $18.99 it's actually 15 bucks right now I'm going to keep it at $8.99 and then when I order it um what I do is I
21:15
order it for the customer at whatever price uh Amazon has it for so see it's
21:22
1899 is on sale so if the items are still on sale we'll buy it if not it'll be the higher price um pretty
21:32
simple um so we'll change this to blue because this is all good to
21:39
go uh I haven't laid out their power system yet uh sketched it out so I'm not
21:45
going to go through the wiring just yet
21:52
um this one let's copy this and go to
21:58
Amazon let's check out how what this one's looking
22:03
like now if you buy an outlet like this uh on Amazon this is the one let's
22:10
see so I always get the the black one because it looks cool um but if you buy this this has a
22:18
uh USB uh C and A
22:24
and remember when you put it in the outlet you're going to M you're going to have to make sure that the uh inverter
22:33
is on for you to um have this
22:39
work so what I like to do is have a com a combination I like to have the thing I
22:44
just showed you plus I like to have uh one run off the 110
22:49
outlet because if you have the inverter running all day that's that's not a big deal that's probably okay to do
22:56
um it does have a little bit of a parasitic loss as you're running it just to keep it on
23:02
but um if you got good solar good battery bank I wasn't really worry about
23:07
it um so these you know you can connect stuff to charge it as well as plugging
23:13
it up these are good to mount in the van so I still have those available um
23:21
so I usually do two so we'll go ahead and add that but the ones that I really like to
23:28
have an ADV van are these uh uh let's
23:40
see they're like a
23:47
waterproof let's see type A and C let's type in water
23:55
resistant
24:16
so this is a hinge
24:25
lid huh hold on a second let me go see if I can find this real
24:57
quick e
25:56
okay this thing right here this is what it's called it's from a company called wee
26:01
bang floor
26:06
outlet this is the one that I've used uh all the bands except
26:13
Thomas's uh it's a really cool Outlet uh let's see if I can let's see
26:26
here uh floor
26:42
Outlet so strange hold on I have no idea why I can't find it
27:02
okay so here it is it's 50 bucks I usually get two of them popup receptical
27:08
Outlet it's not waterproof has a little foam gaskets water resistant
27:13
but um I just like it because you you know you can push the push it down into
27:18
the counter when you're not using it um I just think it's excellent so we're
27:23
going to add that to right up here
27:30
then we'll do two then we'll just come over here and
27:36
just drag up the formula bam go ahead so you can see it's pretty
27:43
much self-explanatory kind of what I'm doing here
27:48
um take that out let's see now what I'm thinking is I forgot that the bamboo for
27:57
the back so if we go to
28:20
this there's the bamboo backing
28:30
okay let me find this really quick
29:11
okay so this is what I'm showing talking about so this is a bamboo backing uh it's kind of like a signature
29:17
thing I've started to do with Vans um so on John and Susan's van we made it a
29:22
little bit more narrow right here so that's why the Lagoon table mount in the electrical box is so tight um because I
29:28
just wanted to maximize this this opening right here uh but the bamboo it's really nice but it's very expensive
29:36
uh shipping wise and for this one I don't think I
29:42
have um I've got a lagoon table bamboo what's nice when you make an Excel sheet like this it's it's searchable as
29:49
well um I've noticed I don't have bamboo I've
29:56
got the Baltic Birch on here so we're going to do the 4
30:05
by8 bamboo and this is the uh uh we got the 3/4 inch
30:14
thickness Cali I think that's the company the one
30:21
sheet uh with shipping one sheet 500 I know it sounds wild um
30:29
so I'm putting that as a placeholder because sometimes what I do is I I try to order a half inch and a 3/4 inch and
30:34
then what I'll do is if I can get both of them uh I'll change the price and
30:39
just use what I use for the customer that's pretty straightforward
30:46
um but this this these are all we're getting that
31:00
yeah so we're just kind of building away here so we're getting getting closer to our to our number
31:18
um the solar panels they are in here but these are probably not the ones these are the ones that we're probably not
31:24
going to use um let's uh just take a little
31:29
ride and go over to Flatline
31:35
vanco let's check out their roof rack so this roof rack that this customer has is
31:42
um the high roof Low Pro
31:49
148 and we're going to there's
31:54
that um we're going to go check out
32:02
this so this is important um crossbow width is 58 the usable is
32:09
57.3 so the the uh the stuff that I've been using is I've been trying to get
32:19
um solar panels that are within that range but I really like Rich
32:26
solar the problem is uh they are geared more to like a 60
32:34
in uh width so if we go
32:41
here and we're going to look at um it' be great if we could use our 200
32:49
watt panels
32:59
now be careful when you're buying solar panels they're now doing 24volt uh offerings so don't get
33:06
confused if you basing yours on a
33:12
12vt um set up but see this one we are at
33:18
58.7 if we go to this we are 57.3
33:25
so I encourage everyone to if you haven't already bought it try to get
33:31
like a unaka or a AVC rig roof rack because they are basing theirs off of a
33:38
60in usable Dimension so they make their Dimension 60 uh 025 so 60 and a quarter
33:46
and allows you to fit this panel in because this is a very good panel um so
33:53
we can't use this and we're not going to do 100 watt um um
33:59
so let's hop on over to Renegy now okay let me I'm not saying we
34:06
can't use this um let me catch myself really quick so we might use this one
34:12
because what we can do is we've got 26.8 because I just realized we're not
34:19
using a Max fan okay so let's do some
34:24
math Okay so we've got
34:30
57.3 57.3 divided by two is 2865 okay we're okay so we're going to
34:38
use 2
34:43
26.8 so it's 53 minus
34:52
57.3 so 3.7 divid two okay gives us that gives us 1 85 in on each
35:00
side which you want an addition you want some additional room on each side
35:05
because if they decide to do an awning later giving them that 3 in little Gap
35:13
right here makes it so much easier to install it's impossible to install an awning these things if you've already
35:20
put the solar panels on you you'll actually have to take them off but by doing this setup um I think
35:26
we'll be will be good um let's see here [Music]
35:38
so so two of these 200 watts and let's remember the
35:50
58.7 so 200 Watts let's do [Music]
35:55
two let's zero these out
36:00
so we still need our inline uh fuse holders so we're going to keep um one for the 20 and then the
36:13
10 okay got a little circuit breaker here um we're going to put we'll put
36:18
zero on this because we're going to use the Eco flow for
36:24
that um we're going cut that directly to the
36:35
ecoflow all right so let me get my little drawing pad set up
37:16
okay so let's get our roof rack
37:36
okay so [Music] I've see so if we got
37:41
124 and these are
37:50
58.7 so let's put we got two panels
37:55
here we got a 200 watt a 200
38:02
watt we do have a UM Vet rooftop AC
38:41
so this is 313 really Square
38:51
huh 31
38:56
317 for
39:30
so I'm just looking on here to see if somebody's already done the homework for me
39:59
hopefully they'll squeeze in so I know I'm looking at my own video
40:04
I'm just
40:10
uh see the front
40:42
okay from this
40:56
bracket
41:26
for for
42:11
27.2 yeah I don't think we'll have room problem is this
42:22
AC um this one's 31.5
42:29
31.5 so it's Square which is nice but what we need to do
42:35
is uh
43:04
where this part right here is there's an offset so basically your 14 by 14 opening is right
43:11
here I know that's supposed to be
43:18
square this is your 14 by
43:24
14 um
43:43
and this comes on to Ford's uh support rail so there's a support
43:51
rail that you can't see right here and then there's also another
43:56
support rail coming from here so what that does is
44:01
that rail defines where you can put the AC now you're it you can cut through
44:07
that but I would not recommend that CU um the weight of the AC unit this one's
44:13
probably doesn't weigh that much this one 66 PBS um I think the dtic
44:20
is much uh let's see here RTX 2000
44:28
uh domic RTX 2000
44:42
weight 70 70 PBS
44:48
so oh it's four pounds more that's not that
44:55
bad so what we need need to find out is this
45:06
Dimension so what I do is I go ahead and I budget for these two panels and then
45:12
just make a [Music] third it's kind of getting into the
45:18
weeds a little bit um you know but it just gets us closer
45:25
to you want to get as close as you possibly can
45:34
um uh because you know I mean if you have a savings for your van I mean it
45:40
gets sensitive when when you're working with a limited budget um it's good to stay on a budget
45:46
because when you're building a van custom you start to kind of dream and you'll kind of go you'll start
45:52
to you know get pretty wide with what you're thinking about doing
46:00
um yeah so that dimension in red that is the one that we need to figure
46:06
out
46:13
uh 31.5 trying to think if there's anything
46:19
else we can fit so the vet is 31.5 the dtic
46:28
what's the dimensions of dedic
46:36
860 so we need 860
46:43
millimeters 860 millimet to inches
46:57
so this might work for us so
47:02
57.3 minus 31.5 divided by
47:08
two that gives us uh it gives us
47:16
12.9 in
47:26
got
47:32
12.9 okay 12.9 and so Ridge Sil came out with these new panels I don't think they're
47:39
on their website uh nah so you have to go to this
47:46
is where I kind of come into play you got to go to
47:53
uh uh explore St life
48:13
oops there you go so we went to explore. life we went to shop components solar
48:21
panels so Nate from explore. Life he's a YouTuber but he also has a store he's
48:26
victron certified all that good stuff so he's got a store where he puts victron components together but he
48:32
also has a solar panels so I bought John and Susan's panels from him
48:40
because he has he's doing a collaboration with explor I mean with unaka and so he's they've made these
48:47
these right here this 35 and 55 watt is a custom solar panel that they've
48:52
made um the 35 watt just happens to be a dimension right here alongside the AC
48:59
unit so you see how we're doing this see how this is working um so this right
49:09
here actually let me look at what is pneumatic cooling
49:23
Dimension 3131 okay okay it's the same
50:26
so so this right here bench test AC unit before installing I really think a
50:32
manufacturer needs to have some type of thing in place um I'm not sure why the customer is left with installing testing
50:40
the AC unit before installing
50:45
um because that means you're going to have to set up you know a fuse a battery a system some wiring on a bench and do
50:52
like a bench top startup so uh yeah especially how much these units
50:59
cost just my opinion
51:12
um see there's no dimensions in here anyway it doesn't matter uh
51:21
these solar panels that we're talking about here these ones left and right
51:28
those are this one
51:34
and we got 33 by 9.5 so these will work
51:40
33 so we can add we could probably add two of
51:51
them so in green those were
52:17
33 the reason I like to max out the solar on uh these
52:24
um it's just good to max out out solar in general but the other reason it's important
52:32
is it's possible that we can get away with uh not purchasing another battery
52:39
for the ecoflow system so this is just one 5 Kow battery it's close to about 416 amp hours that's about four 100 amp
52:46
hour batteries so by doing that um we save
52:52
about $2500 that we can use somewhere else in the van you can always upgrade later but
52:59
because this is maybe your first van um uh for example John and Susan uh they
53:07
haven't called me up as of yet and said hey Nick you know we need more power uh I think the way we designed the van
53:14
they've got all the power that they need and they're they're happy with that um
53:20
so because it's they don't need any more power we plan correctly and now we're
53:27
able to we had we put that money somewhere else basically so we're going to go
53:37
with this one um we do have so we're not using the max
53:43
fan so this will be interesting if how big
53:51
is the 55 n 55 watt
54:00
okay so 55 watt is 25 by 20 so that still won't work
54:07
because see how this the 60 comes into mind 20 2
54:14
46 um so let's see if we got one more
54:23
option I don't let's check this check out this
54:30
150 so this 150 is going to be
54:36
42 by
54:45
27.6 see if we can find something a little bit wider so so one that I know
54:51
Works uh I don't think it's available anymore but it's this this one does fit
54:57
um the
55:03
new I forgot how to spell this it's like [Music]
55:10
new new power solar
55:21
panel okay this 220 okay good it's available still that's awesome so see
55:27
this one this one took me a long time to find it's 220 watts and it's
55:33
56.6 9 so 56.6 n boom
55:39
57.3 perfect fit the only thing we have to think about now is
55:50
um let's see here 56 so the width
55:57
3.12 so now what we do is we just hop on over here and we got a question mark
56:07
and let's use a different color here
56:18
so 30.12 we'll put a question mark so the question is if we can get if
56:26
we have 30.12 inches of
56:32
room then we can put a 220 in
56:49
here this is the new
57:02
so we have two four 6 20 technically we don't need these two in the back
57:11
um well we we we might
57:16
uh so again let's kind of go through my brain here why did I say maybe we can't
57:23
use those so let's go to ecoflow
57:34
powerhub [Music] manual and so what we need
57:41
to what we need to figure out is uh let's check out this let's find out in
57:49
the manual what our Max solar input is wattage wise and then we'll
57:56
also double check the
58:03
voltage input okay so what we're looking for here is we need to well we're already fine so the first
58:12
PV input we've got a maximum we got 13 to 60 volts at 30
58:19
amps maximum is600 Watts so we're we're we're fine um
58:27
if you want a video explaining how how the heck all this makes
58:34
sense go to explor St life go to the YouTube video where it says installing
58:40
580 watts of mist matched solar panels um he does an excellent job at
58:47
the end of the video here going through and explaining
58:54
uh uh series versus par parallel and how he's going to connect these and so he
59:00
basically has three sets of mismatch panels and then he shows you how he's going to connect them and do the math so
59:06
down here at the back show you how they're connected and then he'll actually do the math right
59:12
here so you got fuses
59:19
um and then right here is uh like a final calculation of what uh the actual
59:26
wattage and amperage is going to be um I reference this all the time because I mean there's only so much stuff you can
59:32
keep in your head and write down so I have all these little shortcuts uh that I go through and just
59:39
sharing you with them with you um because you can see how much planning goes into this even though there's stuff
59:45
I have that that I have that's memorized even though I have a Excel sheet that I
59:51
kind of use as my cheat sheet before I send an invoice to a
59:57
customer on buying something I need to make sure that I've got everything planned so that when I say
1:00:05
this is a so that when I say this is kind of what my plan is
1:00:12
um the math has already worked out now it's more you know how much you want to spend to make this happen this is what's
1:00:19
possible where where do you want to where do you want to stop at as far as spending money
1:00:28
um okay so this let's get out of this video great video
1:00:36
um I'm actually gonna I'll put this in the chat this is this is such a great
1:00:50
video okay so the new so this is the one we need to add to the list
1:00:57
uh 220 watt let's copy that let's go back here let's go underneath let's just
1:01:04
put this one at the
1:01:09
topes one
1:01:24
219 okay okay so we got that one um this one we're going to delete keep everything nice and
1:01:32
clean
1:01:38
um these circuit breakers I typically use them in a standal a non-standalone
1:01:46
system um but I uh I REM I don't use these I'm going go ahead and take these
1:01:53
out uh I don't use these because if we're going with an ecoflow system which
1:01:58
I'm 99% sure we should on this one we're going with an ecoflow system the board has a shut off so it
1:02:07
will not if there's a fault it will not allow the system to
1:02:14
uh uh what am I trying to say
1:02:20
re-engage actually I'm going to keep this in here just as a reminder I may want to go back on that
1:02:27
um but I found that the ecoflow if it's not happy it just won't send power to the circuit and it won't make the circuit made so it's kind of like a
1:02:33
safety precaution um we do have inline fuses
1:02:38
for the line but these are mainly to protect the panel at the top of the roof
1:02:44
um this down here is really more at the is protection for the distribution box
1:02:50
from ecoflow actually sorry you guys can't see
1:02:56
this is what I'm talking about right here okay roof rack they've already got
1:03:03
a roof rack we don't have to worry about that um okay let's go back up here what
1:03:08
are we missing hot water switch need
1:03:16
that electrical box we need that wall
1:03:22
plate that okay this anchor
1:03:29
wire I got to map that
1:03:37
out let's go ahead and add these on there we needer
1:03:56
okay let's see where we're at 36 okay let's just keep checking
1:04:03
stuff
1:04:08
out paint probably goingon to be painting some stuff let's go ahead and add that
1:04:14
as a cost um we're going to have a lot of
1:04:19
Hardware but I don't know with a customer what we're going to do yet I don't know if we're going to do um I'm
1:04:26
budget wise I'm planning on a wood build with this not using an 8020 um I don't
1:04:31
think it's in the budget for this build so this will be constructed like
1:04:37
John and Susan's which passes my test so passes my safety
1:04:43
test um so van wife component bags I was
1:04:48
going to like maybe do six of them I think that's a good option for them as
1:04:53
far as additional storage uh all this bungee stuff are going to
1:04:59
take off grade eight bolts we'll keep that in
1:05:07
there
1:05:48
okay so as of tonight we've kind of got this thing up to about um so this is our
1:05:56
our subtotal cost so we're right at our budget U there's only a few things
1:06:01
Direction wise that I would go but I'll need to hop on a call with the customer to figure out where we want to go with
1:06:07
that um but yeah this is a this is our starting
1:06:13
point got a lot of these things identified in here um if you guys have any questions
1:06:20
as far as maybe you want a more detailed approach say hey Nick just do the power system
1:06:26
give me an idea what that looks like I can do that so just let me know in the comments what you're what you're
1:06:31
thinking um but yeah let's uh let's hop on the van
1:06:37
Builder HQ real quick um to see we give you one last
1:06:42
rundown uh we do have the course now available so if you want a deep dive into DIY camper van building things to
1:06:49
look out for and to kind of help me help me guide uh guide you through the DIY van
1:06:57
building process course is now available for sale 50
1:07:07
bucks down here you can you can see what is included in the course um very
1:07:14
indepth uh and I talk a lot about us a lot of uh the lectures go over um a lot
1:07:22
of the concepts that I don't that I think get missed um
1:07:27
most courses that I see they're showing you know here's a hinge here's the how to put the hinge in I in this course I
1:07:35
go more from the Practical side of okay you're buying a van how do you
1:07:41
choose a van do you need four-wheel drive do you need it to be extended High
1:07:46
roof um you know what's the platform what's your budget what can you spend do you want to finance it as a new van are
1:07:52
you trying to go and find a used van if if you do find a used van how do you
1:07:57
even go about seeing if it's safe I've got a video right here um it's an
1:08:02
exclusive video inspecting a used van before buying it you can watch that this is actual this is a van that John and
1:08:09
Susan were thinking about buying I did a uh I looked at it we were
1:08:15
going to take this van and then customize a couple things to fit their needs um this van had a bunch of stuff
1:08:22
issues wrong with it um you'll have to buy the to find out what it is but uh and you'll find out what I
1:08:29
decided to do with the direction on it but this video if you watch it behind the course you'll see wow there's a lot
1:08:36
of stuff that you don't know behind the scenes under the van that is really
1:08:42
important to look at before you buy a van that's in the course um I go through the details of designning layout so uh
1:08:50
walking you through you know what is a van
1:08:56
uh what is a a good van layout I give you three different options um we start
1:09:02
with uh basic an RV and then an adventure style layout so yeah a lot of
1:09:09
stuff we even talk about offgrid power system design sizing your power system and there's a bunch of additional
1:09:16
information in here if you want to look at that um everything's nice neat and organized check it out bilder hq.com and
1:09:25
then if you haven't got the free cheat sheet this free cheat sheet um you can get it right now this is over 250
1:09:32
curated items uh it's the last three years of all my Amazon purchases for the
1:09:37
shop so if I bought it on Amazon it came to the shop it is on this list and it's just a cool way to look at Parts kind of
1:09:43
help you get an idea of maybe what you want to put in your van as a DIY so feel free to check that as well that is
1:09:49
available right now um I'll actually drop that into
1:09:56
comment this as well um and then I
1:10:02
will drop a link to this
1:10:08
guy yeah all kinds of helpful stuff in here remember there's always a blog the blog is there it's tons of Articles and
1:10:16
information for you guys to check out for your DIY camper van build
1:10:21
Journey but yeah that is it for tonight guys thank you so so much for uh
1:10:26
checking out staying tuned if you stayed till the end I really do appreciate it um make sure you guys get subscribed to
