2:10
hey everyone welcome back to the live stream we are working on the Ford Transit and today we're going to put in
2:15
the 30 amp Shore power plug uh for our ecoflow system so uh let's let's grab
2:27
that so this right here is a Shore power Shore power plug if you guys have not
2:33
seen one if you're on this channel I'm sure you guys have looked at this a million times but this is a furion 30
2:40
amp Shore power plug and I saw a little note I thought was pretty interesting over
2:47
here so I've just been getting these off of Amazon
2:53
but if you look on the very right hand side it says Lippert so Lippert that's that's an RV
3:00
manufacturer and um there's a part number so and then on the back it's actually
3:08
made by them so I don't know if you guys were ever curious but one more time this is
3:15
this is the product that we're installing Power Smart Inlet 30 amp 125 volt Square non- metallic with stainless
3:21
steel plate uh this is the one I put on the adventure wagon build and that's what
3:27
I'm putting on this build what's nice about it is you can get it in black or white and I'm doing white because the
3:33
van's white and uh when you open it up you're going to have a 30
3:40
amp receptacle like that and then you're going to have a little indicator light
3:45
here when you're plugged in that uh um will turn on when you're
3:51
charging uh we're just going to got to go through a list of things here so the first thing is
3:58
this now if you have Shore power uh like this you're going to want to be able to
4:04
have a plug to convert it from 30 amp to 15 amp uh for your house um it's just
4:10
more convenient um typically you won't have a 30 amp connection at your house to top off your van so you need to have
4:18
an adapter and it looks something like this so this is one I got off of Amazon
4:26
it's possible this is on the DIY van build cheat sheet in description below if you haven't seen that um but here's
4:32
the numbers on this now I don't recommend this one I'm just showing this to you uh as an
4:38
example I will show you which one I do recommend um but anyway this uh this
4:45
plug um goes in here and screws down but let me show you which one I do
4:51
recommend so this plug style plugs into household but it does not have any type
4:57
of protection on it this is what you want to buy so this is
5:04
a uh KY I guess that's how you pronounce it
5:10
um this is a surge protector and a circuit analyzer so as you can see in here uh it'll tell you you know if for
5:18
example your home is probably wired correctly but if you go to an RV park um
5:25
and say there's a short uh in the wiring because somebody messed it up when they used it last or uh the the power is not
5:32
wired right or something's wrong if you use the other plug you're you're going to have no idea
5:38
until it actually affects your van so with this one um you can actually see
5:45
right here uh all the different uh scenarios that could play out um and you could
5:51
actually see it from this and down here is uh what's important it's a 15 amp
5:57
male to 30 amp female locking plug so what you're going to do is with
6:05
this installed on the van um you're going to find the correct
6:10
orientation there's only one way there's only one way to actually do
6:16
this um then also make sure let's see if this will focus in on
6:22
that um okay so we're going to put this in
6:30
here and so you can see I plugged it in and then now what we have is this locking
6:36
ring so this will lock it to your van so that this doesn't pull out um now
6:45
if you forget to unplug it and drive off I can't help you with that but this will keep it from coming out
6:52
and then you got your 15 amp household so when I'm working on vans in
6:58
the shop and I've got it to the point point to where the system is running I'll just have this plugged in while I'm working on maybe the interior rest of
7:04
the part um if I have the power system already installed so we're going to be
7:10
installing this we have a couple of uh items here that we're going to be working with it I'm going to change
7:28
over so we're going to need a uh Philips head rent uh screwdriver to um bolt down
7:35
or tighten the tighten the terminals here and you want to make sure you get a specific
7:41
screwdriver uh one that's got a really good bite to it so as you know screwdrivers are different sizes and
7:48
they're tapered different angles um so I you probably can't see
7:55
that there you go so that's kind of what this one looks
8:00
like we're also going to be using uh
8:05
Permatex um it's like just essentially like an RTV sealant around
8:13
it we have we have our Eco flow
8:21
cable so this is our ACN and this is what the wiring looks
8:27
like on it they give you 15 ft of cable and it's already uh braided it's already
8:34
heat shrink it is ready to go and then what I've done is I put this on there to
8:40
so that when we go to um screw it onto the housing after we put the wires in we'll
8:47
be ready to go we'll just be all
8:55
set then one last piece of info this is the bag so on here um we've got the
9:02
powerhub charge AC charge cable uh 10 gauge 30 amp Max 15
9:11
ft all right what else do we
9:19
need so according to the instructions you need a two and a half inch hole last
9:24
time I did the other van the hole was just too big um so I'm going
9:32
to on this live stream go to a different size so we'll see how well that works out but I'm going to a 2 and 38 inch
9:40
pole saw all right and I'm doing that
9:47
because they're calling for a they're calling for a 2 and2 in but 2 and 38 is
9:55
actually what the hole is going to be so I'm not sure if this is is just for error on the caution on the
10:04
side of you know whoever's installing this DIY to make sure it fits but I like
10:09
things to fit precisely I don't I don't like a lot of Gap so what I had to do
10:14
last time was I follow the instructions the hole was too big in my opinion and I had to put a just a ton of sealant on
10:21
this to seal around it so I'm not sure what the two and a half is um
10:29
so any we're going to we're going to do this and then my backup
10:37
plan if I need to round it out just a little bit more I've got a Dremel here
10:42
with a grinding stone head
10:50
um all right so I'm going to give you guys some really good information oh hey TC how you doing
10:58
thanks for joining the live stream um here we go check it
11:04
out I gave you how to center now this is the best this is the best position in my
11:11
opinion for this to go in a van uh because it is right in the middle of this Square bump out on the inside of
11:19
a Ford Transit and this is exactly where my uh
11:24
ecoflow uh panel is going to be anyway so and then I got all my grounding over
11:30
there we'll talk about that more as we put in the power system in this van but check it out on the bottom right
11:37
here I've got all the info for you guys so you do not have to go and
11:45
measure so if you want to install this into your van uh what you're going to do
11:51
is the this seam between the headlight and the body panel you going to measure
11:57
12 and 12 inches out from that so to the left towards the front of the
12:02
van and then what you want to do on this bottom side is where the plastic seam is
12:10
so this is a big piece of plastic right where that top seam meets
12:16
the paint you're going to want to go up Seven and 3/4 and then that is going to make this
12:23
is going to be exactly where you want that hole and it will look like this so that
12:29
is uh that this right here is what you should um
12:36
see just right in the center just like that all right so we're going to go
12:42
ahead and drill this out and then we're going to get to work
12:51
um putting this in before let's see here we're going to
12:57
also do the screws that I'm I'm going to be
13:08
using so I always use my own screws on the U for the max fan I don't use the
13:14
ones that come in the kit so I have like three or four bags of these stainless steel screws so these are the stainless
13:20
steel screws from the max fan kit um and their diameter
13:27
is perfect for this so you can kind of
13:36
see yes it's a perfect diameter and then we're going to pre-drill the holes because this isn't a self-tapping
13:45
bit and then to pre-drill I'm not sure what this is I
13:52
already put it out of my toolkit anyway reason the drill bit that's going to work too pre-drill it so what we're
13:59
going to do next is we're going to take the hole saw going to drill through what we already had um so that's uh behind
14:09
me I'm going to switch over the microphone and move the camera
14:19
down there you go now something I always do is I put a piece of tape to catch the
14:27
filings um once we cut the hole out a pro tip is you want you want to
14:34
use a uh this is right here this is a dbird
14:43
tool it's going to take that hard sharp edge
14:50
off and then we're going to take some paint we're going to do some Rust [Applause]
14:57
preventive and then we'll put our sealant on there this paint dries super fast
15:05
um so while the paint does its drying we'll pre pre-drill these other holes
15:11
and then we'll uh give it a couple minutes see if we got any questions on live stream and then we'll come back
15:16
over here and bolt it all together and I'll show you how to
15:23
um uh install this this cord right here
15:31
all right let me see if I can
15:42
get see if I can make that a little bit brighter for you
15:51
guys
15:57
h come on now oh
16:03
wait doing the wrong
16:18
camera there you go all
16:25
right so if you are coming around here what I want you to do
16:32
is this seam of the tail light we want to come over to that seam
16:40
12 and a half just come over make a DOT and then to make sure you're Square
16:47
uh or you're in the right spot you're going to come up seven and 3/4 and then that's going to be where you drill your
16:52
hole now what I've done is I've gone ahead and taken a bit and I've pre-drilled this
16:59
and just like anything uh that I teach you guys how to do on this channel that
17:05
goes through the other side and it gives you the opportunity to see if that is really where you want the hole so if
17:13
that's really where you want it you're okay if you mess up and you need to actually come back over
17:21
here and you screwed up and some for some reason you need to come over here you've got roughly you know 2 and 1/2 in
17:29
to do whatever you want to do um but I'm putting that right there cuz that's
17:35
that's just where it goes I think it's the best spot in the van my personal
17:41
opinion so it's going to go there um so we're going to got some some ear
17:49
protection I've got some eyes and then we're going to drill the
17:55
hole if you guys have any questions about any of this process anything van related or even this stuff that we
18:01
talked about on the previous live stream today where we did the interior upholstery of the two interior
18:08
columns ask away because that's what I'm here
18:20
for all right so I'm going to do a hole saw cut this out and then I will let me
18:26
turn the volume down here all
18:45
right okay let's start drilling let make sure this
18:52
is going to be in Focus this whole time
18:59
okay looks
19:18
good one more reason the reason one more reason the reason the reason that I am going with
19:25
the smaller hole saw like I said earlier uh as I want a tighter fit but remember
19:30
when you use a hole saw sometimes that hole is going to be just slightly bigger
19:35
because of the hole the Hol saw kind of moving around and kind of uh kind of
19:41
oscillating around so uh take that for what it's
19:50
worth all right there we
19:57
go
20:25
and then we want to make sure we go fast speed on this
21:08
all right and just make sure you're really
21:14
confident when you are cutting that hole out if you jerk or kind of get shy on
21:21
that uh you could Nick the side of your van so we don't want to do that to make
21:26
sure that everything is uh as best as it can
21:57
be okay before we pre-draw holes we need to
22:03
get our on over here there we go so this is our deur tool and we're
22:11
going to go just uh kind of go back and forth work out these little pieces of
22:18
metal so the Deber is going to go ahead and
22:26
scrape
22:54
and you don't want to go the opposite direction you want to go in One Direction
23:05
Direction okay don't do this what I'm doing but it's
23:10
pretty it's pretty pretty pretty smooth let's check on the inside of the
23:23
van all right that looks good so we can uh
23:28
clean it up on the
23:40
inside so this right here this bur is what this thing cuts
23:48
off I kind of think it like is a a razor blade from metal so it's just going to go around and then uh cut that
23:56
off okay so once that's like that let's see
24:03
if my plan actually worked oh that's
24:10
perfect yeah that's really crazy they say you need to do two and a half inch hole that's is this is see how much play
24:18
this has already got I know I'm OCD but
24:23
hey it's the way I do it um okay so we're going
24:29
to so that's cleaned up pretty well let's do a little bit of denatured alcohol as you guys know is
24:36
my favorite thing to
24:56
do
25:05
other reason deuring helps out is uh when you do the denatured alcohol on a microfiber you don't really have to
25:12
worry about the uh fibers picking off so
25:18
bad so we'll just take it just Clan this
25:26
up then I've got a bunch of permanent
25:33
marker on the
25:39
outside from
25:50
drawing and then when I go to set it I'm going to measure from these Body Lines
25:56
to make sure it's not crooked good um so we we don't really need this
26:13
anymore we'll be drilling some we'll be drilling some more but it's okay we we'll just wipe that off uh what we need
26:19
to do is get some paint on
26:26
here
26:35
[Music]
27:04
trying a new method here using
27:16
my I'm using a nitr glove to apply the
27:21
paint CU I go through way too many pain
27:29
brushes and this looks like a pretty good
27:56
method
28:26
for
28:42
okay that's all
28:56
good
29:59
okay in the meantime we're going to go and Mark
30:04
out uh let's see
30:11
here so we need our punch down tool for
30:26
this
31:32
see I'm trying to find the easiest way for you guys to measure
31:42
this so five and 58 five and 58 that would technically be
31:49
where this would be nice and
31:56
level
32:19
so I'm just taking a piece of
32:26
tape
33:25
for
33:55
for
34:15
and now I'm not doing the punch down feature because the sheet metal is so thin uh you you may
34:21
Dent uh you may Dent the sheet metal so you may not want to do you may not want
34:27
to do that punch down so
34:55
hard
35:27
[Music]
36:26
w so now I'm just going to wipe off this gasket any type
36:32
of junk on it get it nice and
36:43
clean we're going to open up our um let's see
36:55
here so actually we're going to put our cable going to put our cable through so
37:01
we'll switch over the other
37:07
camera and me back up
37:25
here all
37:31
right so what we want to do is we want to put this whole thing
37:37
together so you need to first put your compression cap on like that backwards
37:44
then this is what actually clamps onto when this gets compressed down this
37:50
will actually clamp onto here and squeeze these wires so they don't they don't move in or out but for now we're
37:57
going to keep that loose just double check paint's nice and
38:03
dry and we're going to put a little bit of sealant on these holes so don't worry that you know we didn't paint
38:11
that you can if you want to uh but we're going to take this we're
38:16
going to bring it out to the other
38:22
side and now we're going to get our
38:32
screwdriver and then we have our uh line neutral and ground and so
38:39
we're going to put that and corresponding now this your Shore power
38:45
plug should be uh should correspond with the
38:51
colors um trying to think if there's anything
38:57
else I want to tell you
39:07
guys I'm trying to see if it shows tells you ask you it says
39:14
anywhere about the gauge of wire that goes in um because ecoflow gives you
39:20
10 I think I tried using I think I used 123
39:28
wire on the last
39:49
one use only 10 gauge or above cable
39:55
okay no I use 10 gauge because I had to buy a whole completely different set all right
40:01
so yeah you want to make sure that the gauge wire you're using matches up with what the manufacturer
40:09
recommends and then we're just going to take these caps off give a little twist and we're just going to do these
40:15
one at a time so we don't accidentally
40:22
Fray the cables
40:32
what we can do is we can go ahead and just open up all
40:44
these um and then you're also want to make sure that this goes all the way to the back inside so don't make it go
40:50
halfway in we need it to go all the way in
41:07
so these are stripped at a good
41:25
length
41:53
and you want to make sure these are not frayed cuz it will mess up how it goes inside it'll kind of fray on the inside
42:00
and you don't want
42:25
that
42:42
yeah just make sure it doesn't snag when it goes
42:55
in
43:18
and uh so I missed a step I need to put this on so I'm actually going
43:25
to show you how to put it on if you do what I just did you pretty
43:32
much have to just uh loop it over everything so I will have to here I'll show you what I'm
43:38
doing that's what happens when you get ahead of
43:49
yourself okay so I'm going undo this wire so if this happens to you you
43:55
can and the reason I'm doing this is you do
44:00
not you don't want to unrip the uh the wires after you just crimped them
44:07
you can but it smashes them and technically you want to actually uh cut and then restrip
44:15
them is what you technically want to
44:25
do
44:32
all right so this should work just fine so I'm going to do is take the plug in
44:37
take my gasket um it shouldn't matter which side and it's just going to go like
44:47
that pull it through and go over all this and then I'm just going to fold
44:54
it now we come out the back
45:09
okay now we can put that on the back of
45:16
this
45:24
okay
45:44
we're going to have to undo this again oh
45:50
well this one I can't cheat and put this gasket on so the part that actually
45:57
clamps down this right here yeah needs to go on before these
46:02
wires go
46:10
on see guys that's how you know we're doing this
46:15
live no fancy
46:24
edits
46:54
okay
47:08
so we're not going to have to re crimp restrip these uh they weren't smashed as bad as I thought but you really got to
47:14
make sure they're Twisted really well um it's just how that thing inside clamps down all right the orientation is
47:21
important we want to make sure this goes in and then that this right here
47:27
can go in and uh it's like a Twist
47:33
lock so it comes
47:39
in it twist and locks in place okay
47:53
so but the gasket goes behind
48:00
this all
48:06
right and since we messed up we need to make sure that these are all
48:24
open
49:34
so this one's
49:40
catching there we go yeah if you fill a wire catch just you're going to have to
49:46
just make sure you do it right cuz if you think about it that little
49:54
Fray it's not with the whole group
50:11
[Music]
50:19
so come on
50:54
that
51:11
okay here we go next we're going to take this and we need to get it orientated to
51:20
where we can just snap it in it kind of locks into place then we take this piece
51:26
we're going to move it
51:33
back and then now we're going to put on our
51:54
sealant
52:24
for
52:39
so this uh RTV black RTV I'm going to use the same thing for the foam to the 14x14 roof adapter for the
52:47
air conditioner if you guys are wondering now I don't know why they put
52:53
some foam here but but uh you need to come up over and down
53:01
with the uh sealant because it's just going to it's not going to seal I don't know
53:09
why I don't know why they did that um but you do need to be careful on
53:14
this Edge don't get too much because come it'll squeeze right out of
53:24
your um if it does squeeze out it's not the end of the world we'll just clean it up
53:30
with some denatured alcohol all right we don't need our piece of
53:39
tape and how's that video looking can you guys actually see that is this in
53:54
focus let me get the here we
54:10
go all right now we're going to see if we are our holes that we drilled if
54:17
they're big enough for these uh to start these stainless steel screws don't use
54:23
zinc plated use stainless
54:38
steel okay we're just going to put a dot of sealant on these
54:54
holes
55:02
hopefully don't make too much of a
55:07
mess yeah this was so loose the last time I did it that really didn't have to worry about
55:14
making a mess cuz uh I actually sealed it from the inside
55:19
because I had so much play I'm using too big of a hole saw
56:03
we just want to do one side at a time don't rush don't rush
56:20
it now I'm just going to start this with a drill and I'm going to
56:26
hand tighten this for the final
56:53
bit
57:03
all right let's see see what these feel
57:23
like
57:36
and you can see how you're compressing the gasket to see how
57:45
evenly you're clamping down on
57:53
it
58:23
that's
58:47
okay all right looks pretty
58:52
good now the inside I'm going to put a little bit of a sealant around the
58:58
screws and then we'll screw this back on and then we'll be
59:23
done
1:00:23
for
1:00:57
then I'm also doing is I'm taking my finger and I'm running it around the whole perimeter of that
1:01:05
plug and so now we're going to have a very good seal
1:01:10
um all the way around
1:01:23
this yeah so I just went all the way around so that's going to actually create like its own gasket so it's going
1:01:29
to be sealed from here we've got the sealing on the outside compressed so we're not just relying solely on the
1:01:36
foam which you know if it was my van I wouldn't be relying solely on
1:01:44
that you just want to make sure that you always want to make sure you
1:01:51
have backup plan so you know George from Humble Road he
1:01:58
likes to have options I like to have options so all right last part we're done we are
1:02:06
done with this so if you got questions ask them now so these are in here we got these
1:02:13
all tightened down now the nice part is you can take this apart if you needed to
1:02:20
fix something or test something or something like that um but we've got this all ready to go all we got to do is
1:02:28
plug it in and test it right here was that piece that I was
1:02:34
talking about so that goes right in here into this
1:02:40
little uh little hole right there just like that and then the final part is this is
1:02:47
going to come
1:02:53
in and tighten that all
1:03:10
down all right so that keeps the wires nice and
1:03:16
tight and that's it so we got our cord here we just wrap it up we'll clean all
1:03:23
this up tomorrow but this is our uh cable for our shore power
1:03:34
connection and then last but not least this is where we're able to plug
1:03:41
in
1:03:46
our Serge protector so just like
1:03:53
that
1:04:04
and then we're ready to top off our van it'll just everything will just sit just like this light will come on when you
1:04:10
plug it in let you know that you're charging
1:04:15
and yeah that's pretty much it and a
1:04:21
nutshell all right let's see see we got any questions no questions

1:08:04
