1:19
hey everyone welcome back to the live stream tonight uh we're going to change it up a little bit for this live stream we're
1:25
going to be um we will be answering some questions from the YouTube comments um but the last question that was on the
1:32
channel actually had to do with rooftop tents uh not a bad question but kind of random because most high roof Vans
1:41
you're not going to have a rooftop tent but if you're doing DIY van builds maybe you have a lower van maybe you have like
1:46
a conol line um heck maybe you're tuning in and you're just looking for a
1:51
different uh outdoor Overland type options uh speaking of Overland I'm
1:57
going to uh Overland Expo East tomorrow so I'll be there if any of you guys are
2:03
out there kind of see me walking around I think I might wear this just in case anybody wants to uh say hi but um yeah
2:11
we're going to kind of go into like a Overland gear mode because not only is the some of the questions kind of
2:19
hitting on that um but I've got something pulled up over
2:25
here um so yesterday we had a
2:30
uh viewer vesa that we were chatting back and forth with and their last question had to do with rooftop
2:38
tent and um yeah it's possible that you could
2:44
have a van or um just talking about Adventure van kind of category of gear
2:50
so why not let's chat about it because I actually have a company that I like um it's a Rome Adventure
2:58
company and and we're just going to look at a couple of their products I've not bought their tents but I was very
3:05
interested in their awning at one time for my van and that was because um I've
3:12
got a low broof van and at the time this was four years ago uh I didn't actually want to uh we'll come back to the tents
3:19
I want to show you the awnings so this is something uh if you
3:25
don't want to really dive into expensive awning whether manual or powered um
3:33
these manual style awnings uh they're a step up in my opinion from what's on
3:39
Amazon so if I hop on Amazon real
3:45
quick there's a there's an awning if I can find it
3:56
here see rooftop awning
4:06
so here we go so we've got these awnings um these
4:11
rooftop awnings there's a company called all toop um they're trying to emulate
4:16
the ARB awnings uh so they are the cheaper version of that but um yeah so
4:25
if you want to go to lower cost all toop is kind of like
4:30
the Amazon brand of these awnings um they work okay they have
4:36
these joints right here they're made out of plastic so sometimes they're kind of brittle another company is called uh
4:44
kickass they make these little shower tents um ARB is more a higher end
4:53
version of these uh vever uh they make a bunch of products
5:02
um they make all kinds of products they make sewing machines they make pretty much anything that can be uh White
5:07
labeled they they'll make a version of so yeah let's talk about some of
5:13
these uh cheaper awning options you can 100% use this for your van build uh you
5:20
don't have to go with a really expensive awning if you're just trying to get some shade and a little bit of
5:25
protection but if you want to take it a step up from Amazon and maybe go with
5:32
uh uh a company that's just uh a little bit better I'd say then you
5:39
can see um this company Rome they make other equipment um this
5:46
is not sponsored by them I just think this is some good information for you guys and might be what you're interested in looking
5:52
for so here's some rooftop awnings so when I was shopping around for this a couple years ago uh there's a
5:59
couple things that identified as um something to look for when you are
6:05
purchasing an awning and that has to do with the this width right here so the width of the
6:13
awning is uh the length of the side of your vehicle so say for example you have like
6:21
a 148 in Ford Transit typically like the 10 foot range is what you would be going
6:26
for now these only go up to 8 feet but this is what these numbers represent um
6:33
if you don't if you've never seen this before so for example this width is the
6:40
uh uh how many feet um what's nice is uh you can get
6:48
the rooftop awnings with an add-on room
6:53
so they got these little zip uh they're like a fly screen and yeah this is what I was going
7:00
to get for my personal van um when I was going down this whole Road of uh doing the
7:06
customization and um so I may go back to this option the
7:12
reason I like it is if you have a fiama awning for example it's a nice robust awning that pops out but if you want to
7:19
actually create a secondary room coming outside of your van maybe it's like a room to change in you know Lounge in if
7:25
the weather's nasty um that sort of thing something like this uh in my
7:30
opinion would actually be a better option if uh you have a lower vehicle like a truck a low roof van that sort of
7:38
thing um but yeah I think these are this is
7:44
the product that I would buy if you want something a little bit better than this type of
7:50
stuff um they also make shower rooms so if you need an outdoor shower
7:59
you can retrofit this uh for a van um about three years ago when I started to
8:05
do my first spec build for this shop I was going to just buy a shower an exterior shower room um because it has
8:12
these railings at up top that fold out and I was actually going to repurpose this for an interior shower
8:18
system um so that's kind of something that I was thinking about doing so if you are in the DIY van build
8:27
mode or you're in the overlanding um this is where they kind of intersect
8:32
so they're going to C there's crossover within Industries and you don't have to have a a 4Runner pickup truck or whatnot
8:40
um you can use this obviously for for your van uh let see what else
8:47
here so that was my two cents on that let's go to Rooftop tent this was the question that uh vesa
8:55
had yesterday one of our viewers and let me get the actual
9:00
question that they were
9:10
asking uh question was thoughts on Rooftop tent specifically the ones you can access from the
9:20
inside so I wonder if this uh this
9:26
one I haven't shot for these so I just thought I'd do it while we're live I don't think this one can be from the
9:40
inside so what vesa may have been talking about uh maybe he'll come back on the chat again
9:46
tonight my thought is they're talking
9:51
about a like a clamshell pop top maybe from like a company like uh Colorado
9:58
camper van so let's let's look at that so I met these guys at a uh van
10:07
event so here's the company Colorado camper van and they make pop tops for
10:13
Vans they're at a loveling Colorado and so what they do is they'll
10:19
take uh they make the fiberglass
10:25
tops for various Vehicles so you can see what we have here um we've got like a
10:32
Volkswagen we've got an Econoline we got another Econoline uh we
10:37
got a Ford Transit over here these you can access from the
10:44
inside and I've actually got a video so let me go ahead I'm going
10:49
to tag the video that I actually have a uh tour in here from the channel
11:01
you guys are welcome to ask any questions uh that you might have on your mind tonight um can be anything we'll
11:07
kind of maybe get stick since we're going to the Overland Expo tomorrow uh tonight can be like an Overland question
11:12
like Overland gear overlanding um because again they kind of cross they cross over a lot
11:19
industry-wise
11:32
okay so we'll go to our YouTube channel and let's
11:38
see trying to think where when I did this
11:49
video there we go
12:10
so this is the van that we're doing a tour of this is one of their show Vans at uh an event that we did last year so
12:18
Adventure van Expo in Chattanooga
12:26
Tennessee so you can see here this is the cut out so you got all the uh sheet
12:33
mle up top and where these two beams are this is the ribs of the
12:38
van so you're just opening that area in between the ribs to gain access to the
12:43
roof and the unique thing about Colorado camper van is uh you can keep a lot of the
12:52
Interior metal in place or structure in place and just have this small opening to get in and out that's my personal
12:58
recommendation however they will cut the whole entire interior out 100% so you can
13:05
fully uh open everything up um when you do so there's the
13:11
automatic lift for the uh the actuators so there's two act linear actuators that
13:16
open it up um but let me Zoom a little bit
13:22
faster so they got a ladder to hop up in there and this this is what it looks
13:29
like on the inside but there's a ton of room um
13:35
what's nice about this one is both sides come all the way up and instead of like a clamshell
13:44
design um so Rod's got a question I'm going to
13:52
use 8020 on my roof for solar panels Etc did you ever do this
14:00
um so I did do this but it wasn't my design it was from unaka Gear
14:08
Company so Rod I'm going to go and uh well first let me share this
14:14
video might help out with the uh question that besta had
14:19
yesterday and then Rod let me get to your [Music]
14:25
question um let's see
14:39
oh it's it was live stream hold on I got too many videos here so it was a live
14:45
stream I did
15:09
okay let's start off with this one so this is the video Rod I think will help
15:15
you okay all right so Rod this is the um
15:22
unaka Gear Company roof rack system in collaboration with explor
15:27
stli and this is an 8020 roof rack um the sides are not 8020
15:35
but the structure behind it are 8020 bars they're using 15 series uh it's
15:42
powder coated black but the structure of the roof rack is 8020 and then the sides
15:48
are how they reinforce it this is the roof um rack that I put
15:53
on John and Susan's van
16:18
let me fast forward here okay so Rod what they did is they
16:23
took um they have these 8020 rails
16:29
so check it out so they have these brackets like
16:34
that and then they had the 8020 rail that mounts to the bracket and then the
16:39
side panels here are what are going to
16:44
support um they're for ladder support um they also but the 8020 is actually
16:52
what holds these cross members so they just got two 8020 runs
16:58
um so that might be similar to what you're doing but this video I'll put in the
17:03
chat it should help you out so I take
17:12
that and then I start to assemble
17:22
it so you see I start mouthing it to the side and you can watch this whole video reference reference the
17:33
instructions and then eventually what I do is right here these are the mounting points for the transit this for 148
17:40
Transit so I've got uh four of them and this is a s this is now two pieces of
17:46
8020 that have been combined together and they're going to get ready to go on the roof rack so if you back up uh we go
17:54
to the next video
18:02
which is see part [Music]
18:08
two the part two video okay here we
18:16
go so this is part two this is when I have the 8020 mounted with the brackets
18:21
on top of the van and um this is a good visual for you if you
18:27
were wondering what it's kind of going to look like using 8020 now Rod if you're still on here are
18:34
you using your making your own brackets to mount to the roof or did you go to a company like DIY van to get these
18:44
brackets uh if you want to use 8020 and make your own roof rack there's a company called DIY van
19:01
I bought a set of these but I don't know where I put them in the shop I've had them for like had them for like three
19:06
years um I actually just bought a roof rack from AVC
19:12
rig uh because I have a low roof fan and I think they're the only ones with a dedicated low roof roof rack for a 148
19:20
um with a like a front fairing yeah so if you go to DIY van you
19:27
go to shop by type Transit products just for this case in particular this uh
19:35
company wait I'm not even showing you hold on let me back up all right here we go go to DIY
19:41
van.com [Music] um go to Ford shop products or by Vi van
19:51
type go to Transit products and then you'll come to this page let me grab my drink
19:58
but what's nice about DIY van is that uh they make they're the ones that I use
20:04
for the max fan roof adapter vent or Max fan
20:10
vent roof adapter plate and I also use him for the Nom I
20:16
mean domatic AC I Al I do nomatic AC as
20:23
well um so here's the products they they sell
20:32
thinsulate the high and midroof vent adapters
20:37
inside supports they're the only company that I know that have a
20:44
custom uh cnced template plate for the doedic RTX 2000 and it's really nice so
20:52
one weird thing about the dedic is there's this big chunky plug like this it's almost like
20:59
they tied the wires in a knot over here and so if you get just a 14x14
21:06
adapter it technically will work you'll have to do some trimming but you'll have to physically cut into the van and they
21:14
extend it wider so that that support's still there and I I think that's really
21:21
important um but to get back to what we were talking about these are the I I bought these
21:27
mounting brackets um a while ago and so Rod what I was ask telling
21:35
you was I didn't know if you got
21:40
this okay that's right because you got you bought the RTX 2000 adapter gotcha
21:46
um you have a 170 Sprinter high
21:52
top so I I think they got these for have you purchased these brackets
21:58
yet or you're just in the beginning phase of getting ready to do this so if
22:03
he goes shot by van and we go to
22:16
Sprinter let's see if they got the brackets
22:21
okay so does your Sprinter what year here is
22:28
it and does it have the uh Tower brackets the ones that bolt
22:35
into the top rail I'm just curious if that's what you
22:42
have because if you're doing a DIY roof rack this website DIY van I think uh I
22:51
think it'll really help you out um so Rod I'm going to paste this
22:59
link into the
23:14
chat okay so I think I'm
23:21
assuming I've replaced an AC unit on a sprinter but I have yet to uh do a roof
23:27
rack um it looks to
23:33
me this is probably what you have I'm guessing this right
23:40
here it's like a rail that's already made there oh cool cool you got those
23:45
brackets awesome okay yeah so anybody out there looking um this is
23:52
uh it's a cool website I bought the my first product from him uh
23:59
uh Hine is or Hayne I think it's I forgot how I pronounce
24:05
it I think it's Hayne um you guys can call them what's great
24:12
is they they'll answer the phone talk to you but actually texting them is what they recommend because they're they're
24:18
busy cutting stuff out
24:23
but yeah they've got a lot of just these are great it's just a great place to go for DIY uh DIY
24:31
products they just happen to be called DIY van so good name
24:41
um cool so Rod you got those brackets awesome that's cool so here's the thing
24:49
if you got uh for the others that are watching tonight if you're doing your DIY roof
24:54
wreck um oh cool you got your 3M thinsulate awesome that's
25:01
great uh so just curious Rod are you going to use the double-sided tape to kind of help hold that insulation up
25:08
that's a trick I learned from Adventure wagon when I bought the
25:14
kit Adventure wagon gave me a a roll of a huge roll it's probably going to last me four vans but it's a big roll of wide
25:21
double-sided tape and I apply that on the wall and then I push my insulation up and it
25:28
holds it right up there but if you guys are doing a DIY
25:36
roof wreck uh the reason I would suggest this is you see how this is kind of
25:42
working the way it is um if you do a DIY rack like this and oh 3 M90
25:50
okay um and you do uh 8020
25:56
rail check it out you could go to Rome and get an
26:02
awning go over here to Rooftop awnings and they're probably not going
26:09
to show a photo of it ah this might work but because you have 8020 you can take
26:16
these bolts and you can bolt into the 8020 Channel depending on how high that offet
26:23
is and you can just have a nice um lowcost awning and using the
26:30
8020 with those brackets um so for example these brackets are 85 bucks set
26:36
of two let's say you need you know six of them so it'd be like
26:43
three uh so you got 250 B say 250 and then the
26:50
rooftop awning 269 so with tax let's call it 600 bucks
26:58
um and then the 8020 rails might be I don't know maybe like $40 a piece
27:05
so you know probably like 800 bucks you could have the roof rack your mounting
27:13
brackets and an awning uh whereas just the fyama f45s
27:18
like if we go and look it
27:25
up the FI f45s it's $1,400 just for the
27:30
awning that's no roof rack that's no brackets so I think this will be a good
27:37
option if you're a diyer and you're looking to uh get a make a roof rack
27:46
so oh yeah so rod in my
27:52
opinion I like the tape um
27:58
let me show you the tapee let me show you the tape I've also learned
28:05
that uh super 77 is is better for upholstery I'm not saying you can't use
28:12
this the 3m9 but um here I'll get some cans and we'll
28:20
we'll talk about both of them okay 3 90 77
28:30
all right what was I getting oh yeah the Rollo tape let's
28:37
where is it let me find it
28:58
Okay so we've got the two products here in question and so this is just information
29:04
I'm not saying that you can't use either of these I'm just going to tell you
29:10
my my opinion so the super 77 that is what I
29:16
use uh for anything upholstered or upholstery in general the super 77 is
29:24
designed for foil foam paper metal plas IC fabric cardboard
29:30
insulation so that's what it's specifically made
29:35
for 3m9 kick plates polyethylene
29:40
polypropylene plastic laminate concrete metal wood so
29:48
it's this is so this is what I would
29:54
recommend um for doing van gluing stuff so if you're trying if
30:02
you need to if you need to hear fabric to foam this is what you want to use if
30:08
you want to hear fabric to Wood this is what you want to use fabric to metal this is what you want to
30:14
use um and
30:19
uh it's just the material safety data sheet or the sheet that tells you the
30:25
specifics on this this is the one this is the one I'd use
30:34
so uh here's the tape though so Rod this is the tape that I was talking about
30:41
um so I think I got a part number here let's see if I can type this part number
30:50
in so this is Adventure wagon gave me this in the kit when I bought their
30:55
super expensive kit this is what I was instructed to use to uh so see it's a
31:01
double-sided extreme I mean very sticky this will almost rip your skin off it's so sticky so it's double-sided it's
31:08
really wide and this worked fantastic it was it
31:14
was fantastic because it it holds
31:23
um so the thinsulate so basically what you're doing is
31:29
this right here this on on this right here it holds
31:36
it really well uh so you can see that it almost almost
31:44
rips it off um okay so to answer your question the part number of what this this part
31:51
is I gotta I got a part number I'm putting in so one second
32:12
that didn't do anything uh see
32:26
Scotch see let's find out how big this
32:40
is 4 in
32:51
wide wow okay I didn't realize how expensive this is look at this this is
33:00
crazy it's uh that's pretty nice so this is what it
33:07
is right here 3M 36 [Music]
33:19
yards some expensive tape wow
33:35
oh core size is okay oh this is eight rolls per case
33:42
two cases okay it's not that expensive yeah that was silly for me to think that
33:48
um so you got to divide it was that 20 bucks or 20 bucks I think
33:55
it's like 20 bucks
34:01
okay but this is okay let me here here you
34:20
go um but this this this stuff is great I mean this is uh I think this is why Adventure wagon uses it this stuff is
34:27
nice so here I'll pull off I'll cut a piece off and kind of show you what it looks like on
34:33
the
34:40
insulation you can tear it I just I just tore it so you don't technically have to
34:46
have it tears really easy but be careful this it will rip your skin off so what I
34:52
do is I just take the 3M Thins slet and I put this so I actually I put this on
35:00
the wall can I do a demo let's see if I can do a demo
35:13
here well you could you could put this on here so I put this on here right and
35:20
then you just come up and take peel off the back side so when you peel this off
35:28
this right here see this this uh this holds the
35:34
insulation up so it doesn't collapse behind your panel so if you got a van you're doing
35:47
a and say this is your upholstered panel I mount mine to the van and leave
35:54
it so I can take the panel off later but that's what you want to do is going
35:59
to have it like that to where this is glued to the sheet metal of your van
36:05
like that and then your panel goes on top of it kind of like
36:17
that all right there was our tape little double-sided tape demo
36:24
um let's see what else is on on Rome's website cases I've also
36:33
seen the Sprinter van that came to the shop for the AC swap um he had a big
36:39
Rome case up
36:48
top so he had uh something like this yeah they bought this one this
36:55
rolling rugged rolling rugged case and they had this bolted to the
37:02
roof rack um so it looks like these rigid
37:09
mounts looks like you can buy these rigid mounts to mount
37:15
this that's really cool inside the case I mean this is
37:21
really cool stuff this is the inside lid of the case
37:27
here's what it looks like on the out
37:36
outside okay that's how it that's how it holds the case down I was wondering if it's got a little bottle cap that's
37:43
pretty
37:49
cool yeah this is awesome even got it in these like sand colors that's really cool
38:22
got removable rugged mounts
38:27
yeah this SS great I mean you could put this inside the van on top of it um as much as I'm showing you this I
38:35
personally don't recommend storing anything on top of your van you know maybe if you have a low roof or a medium
38:40
roof um I just I wouldn't store anything if you had a high roof
38:46
uh you you just want to stay away from the weight on top of your roof the roof rack on top of a van
38:53
weighs so much solar panels weigh so much the AC weighs so much um any lighting or ACC accessories so
39:01
just be careful on that so rooftop
39:07
storage yeah this stuff is really
39:17
cool all right we're going to Pivot and the question somebody had was uh
39:23
about the Ford Raptor grill that I use on my 2020 and up
39:41
fans all right so if you
39:48
go go on Google you type in Ford Transit Raptor
39:55
Grill and then find the one that says genuine Ford
40:04
Transit and you want the one that the van looks like is from the UK because this is where the grill is from the
40:11
UK so this is the the grill and this is a Ford product so this is this is made
40:19
by Ford um you don't want to have these kind of
40:24
half-done ones right here
40:30
uh let's see this is 2019 no
40:36
way the way that you can tell this is not true because I have a 2019 this would not fit my this would not fit my
40:43
van so the way you can tell is a 2019 does not have this short part up here it
40:50
has a longer top so
40:58
so let's see here if I go to 2019
41:04
Ford Transit Grill so this is the wrong one and this
41:12
is the right one so you see basically what Ford did this sounds insane but
41:17
they basically just flipped the 2019 2015 to 2019 they took that Grill and then they flipped it upside down and now
41:25
that's the 20 20 and onwards so just make sure that when
41:32
you're getting um if you want to have an upgraded Grill like
41:38
this that you you just pay attention to kind of what you're what you're
41:44
getting so for example see this one this is a 2019 see how it's longer
41:51
on the sides from the top so it's longer and and then if we back
41:59
up this one is shorter so the tops are shorter that's how you tell the
42:07
difference and uh yeah I haven't actually looked at these in a
42:19
bit actually like this one um it's funny because they can't it
42:25
can't say Ford so what they do is they take off the uh
42:31
the two midal letters and you have to bolt them on after the fact that's funny
43:00
so this is like the original grill that I
43:18
had okay let's check out another question from the YouTube
43:29
and guys if you're watching live stream feel free to ask questions that's what the live stream's
43:35
for it makes a night exciting for me so ask the questions
43:56
um for
44:56
so somebody was asking about a Max fan uh returning it turning it on remotely
45:03
so let's pull up a Max fan I'm sure you guys know what a Max fan
45:19
is so max fans come is by a company called max air air Exel brand the deluxe
45:26
is what Everyone likes to to purchase
45:35
um so the question was they wanted to wire this up so that when they had a a
45:41
remote switch they could turn the power on and off the problem is it's not wired
45:48
to do that so when you do a remote switch and turn it on all it's going to do is prime the circuit board and make
45:55
the unit beep uh you're still going to have to then take the remote control and then turn it on after that so
46:02
if uh so even the one that's not the deluxe even if you go with the standard um a
46:11
standard one like this one uh the 6401 or even
46:16
the 7500k you're still going to have to take that second step and turn it on unless you gut the circuit board and do a
46:23
direct wire so that would be up to you if you want to do that that okay rod says uh I'm adding two
46:31
bunk windows in the back and T vents on slider clamp in don't want the glue in
46:37
Windows um I'm with you I like the I like the clampin crl windows um uh so I
46:44
did not use van windows direct I went to CR
46:49
Lawrence um I went to I went through CR Lawrence
46:55
and uh believe or not I actually picked them up in Rock Hill South Carolina so
47:00
they have a location at the Rock Hill is about an hour or so away from my shop so
47:07
I get them shipped I don't get them shipped to me I get them shipped to the warehouse um and I just do this because
47:16
uh so I don't want to freak anybody out about Windows but it's extremely important that when
47:23
you buy any type of Windows from anybody the day it shows up you need to open the box and check for damage
47:32
um I got into a conversation with crl because I had bought four or five wind
47:39
actually not four or five I bought seven windows for a van build for Van builds in my shop and I'm not going to get to
47:45
the windows till you maybe a couple months and I went to open one and one of
47:52
the vent Lids so they're supposed to be flush and this is a common thing that
47:57
happens with the uh um oh sorry Rod I I do have a sorry I
48:04
have a uh I have a wholesale account so that makes sense
48:09
okay uh so I got a wholesale account that's why I can do ver crl
48:15
um who would I recommend van windows direct I've heard good things about van windows direct um they I'm pretty sure
48:21
they sell crl uh
48:28
actually I need to set up to sell Windows to be honest
48:35
um we're doing that too we're we're we're starting the process to sell stuff on Van Builder HQ
48:43
so yeah let me know guys what products you would like me to carry that is uh
48:48
that was kind of like a surprise we're still working on it it's in the uh um in the trial phase right now but yeah we've
48:56
got wholesale accounts we can actually start selling products
49:03
um H got me thinking
49:12
now van windows
49:24
direct so Rod can you send me an email to sales Odyssey customs.com
49:31
let me put that in the chat um send me an email because I I'm able be able to
49:38
get you these windows uh because because we want to
49:45
start selling products and um yeah this this might be
49:51
a might be a first step to do it right here
50:06
salesy custom.com yeah Rod if uh if you want to
50:13
um yeah let's let's try to uh see me your uh contact info if you're
50:21
interested um I can use my account and uh get these windows um get these window
50:26
is ordered because uh we're wanting to
50:32
here I'll let me show you some stuff we're working on so if you go to if you go to Van
50:40
Builder HQ and you go to shop maybe you guys have not seen this this is kind of
50:45
hidden but right here we've got one of the first products online um now if you
50:51
guys remember I had the doedic debacle so no pun intended but
50:57
I uh I had some issues with a domic unit um but through the whole entire process
51:04
I got to understand how doedic worked and my trust Factor went way up so
51:11
um now I know how they work I know who to contact I know what product to get
51:16
I'm I'm comfortable as a professional installer recommending them now that I
51:22
know how to get spare parts their customer service is really great through my experience so now I'm a dealer for
51:30
doedic um and I can sell their products so the first one that we're going to try
51:36
is the RTX unit um and then we're going to have some other stuff on here so Rod
51:43
um once you send me that email with your contact info that could be the the first step in getting the windows and then
51:50
what we could do is I can populate the Windows onto the website you can hop on
51:55
there order them and then I'll make sure you're taking care of as far as uh getting the windows shipped to you um
52:02
cuz the one thing about Windows is uh oh yeah so I just show you this see
52:09
like if you go click add to cart you got your little cart down here
52:16
boom so this is the inner workings of it um one thing about
52:23
Windows you need to okay I bought seven windows I bought
52:30
four uh bunk windows and I bought three I bought two
52:38
passenger side and one slider the do the door slider was out of angle or like it
52:44
wasn't flush so but I didn't know about this until like four or five months after I bought it and since I continued to buy
52:51
from them I took it back and I said hey guys you know this is not right and they said hey it's you know it's been too
52:56
long and I said no it's not been too long you need to fix this CU it's uh I
53:03
just opened the box this is this needs to be returned and fixed so after a
53:08
conversation with them I they did fix it for me they got me a brand new window um I went down to their warehouse we
53:15
exchanged it and uh everything's been smooth since then but for you as a
53:21
customer um Windows you just need to make sure that when you first get the
53:26
window the glass is well one not broken but two uh I wish I had an example
53:37
um did I bring let's see if I brought one in the
53:43
shop no it's in the other shop
53:55
um okay this my might be a good example so here it is here's a crl window like on the floor you open it up and there's
54:02
this blue even on the big Windows there's this blue
54:08
plastic so this blue plastic there's a seam right here and you need to make
54:13
sure that seam is flush and they even have a warning sticker that says you know if this is not flush upon
54:20
inspection uh you need to send it back so what's going to happen is that needs
54:26
to be identified when you get the package before you sign it away it's a
54:31
little bit of a hassle but um not saying I'm trying to save the
54:38
world here by kind of standing behind products but I'm hoping that if uh I
54:46
sell these products that I can um there's just a better communication Loop because I know you guys if your diy's
54:52
out there you've never bought these products before they're very expensive and so not knowing that you're going to
54:59
be kind of taken care of I think is a is challenging that's what I found out so I found out that personally as a builder I
55:06
bought this I installed into a van it was brand new used four times and my customer went to spend the first night
55:12
in the van and one of the uh fans was not working so you know
55:20
for me I I that was that's not the experience I wanted my customer to have so I know that I can handle it and take
55:28
care of it but if you're buying from a a business such as van Builder um the
55:35
products that I want to carry on this shop are ones that I know the kind of the full circle so if something happens
55:42
we know how to handle it um for you um you're not kind of buying through
55:48
like a third or fourth party type of thing so yeah let's um let me see if I can uh
55:56
make that work with these crl windows Rod that would be that would be exciting to do to do that um where was I going
56:05
with that we talked about Windows these are great questions tonight guys we talked about grills all right let's pick
56:13
another question from our YouTube
56:18
audience see we talked about Max fan
56:24
controls what's the next question coming up here I'm on to I'm on my laptop down
56:32
here so to get my
56:43
questions okay uh another one of our viewers asked a question
56:49
um let see
56:58
uh they asked can you please provide the brand of the outlet setup for the small
57:04
sprayer you showed is that whole Outlet unit a
57:10
kit sprayer Outlet ah okay okay okay okay and then
57:16
to make the draining process quicker okay all right next Pro tips we're going
57:23
to find we're going to talk about some plumbing parts that I recommend
57:35
um so there's a company out there you might have heard of them they're called Titan
57:41
Vans they recently rebranded their DIY
57:46
company that was Titan van DIY kits it's now Timber van
57:52
kits so they sell kits
57:57
um but I'm not here for the kits I'm here for the components of the kits so if you go in here um and you go
58:08
to it doesn't matter what van you want to go to
58:13
water and then from there they have
58:20
uh I like to get my water tanks from a company called Northwest conversions
58:32
okay so this is who I recommend buying water tanks from is Northwest
58:39
conversions uh however for the form factor as you can see here
58:46
um these are good tanks but for the for a very small form
58:52
factor I like to go with this 20 gallon slim tank uh especially for diyers are
58:59
just getting started maybe they don't want to get too crazy with the their build
59:05
um so this thing is very slim very comeback packed
59:11
uh if you need more than 20 gallons go to Northwest conversions website get the bigger ones get the 25
59:18
gallons or the 30 six gallon tank um but see this is their 20
59:26
uh but see how it comes over the wheel well towards the inner side of the van I like this one because it stays
59:34
over the tank it doesn't come outside so you can actually have a panel going flush up against it okay that's not why
59:40
we came here why we came here is for this so they were asking what is
59:46
this so this is a rear spray down shower kit from Timber Vans and the two
59:53
components are from a company called scandic they're really nice high-end uh
59:59
Marine components they're solid brass Chrome plated heavy duty this is solid brass
1:00:07
it's a very it's heavy and heavy duty um sprayer handle and this is kind of what
1:00:13
it looks like um and this has been in multiple videos
1:00:18
that I've had so for example if we go to uh
1:00:26
HQ water let's just type in water if we go
1:00:32
to this is the video so right
1:00:37
here so up here is where I got that mounted to the water tank let me move my my
1:00:44
head so right here is where I got that mounted and then I got the water pump so
1:00:50
that is where this is purchased the other question was what is this so this
1:00:57
is from a company called aore and it's actually a high-end
1:01:04
residential hose faucet and I get these off of
1:01:13
Amazon you can get nice offu of Amazon you just got to know the manufacturer's name to find it it's kind of hidden
1:01:20
Amazon's going to serve you all the cheap stuff so you just kind of have to dig to find this um by typing in the
1:01:28
manufacturer's name um cuz it's expensive it's a water
1:01:33
hose connection for $84 but I'm telling you this is very
1:01:40
nice um what's funny is they now have these van pictures in here so it used to
1:01:47
be it used to be houses like nice residential homes and then um I think it
1:01:53
just got really popular in the RV uh RV
1:02:01
World but yeah these are it's it's a what's nice about this uh Aqua
1:02:07
is it has a it has a double o-ring gasket and so what happens is when you
1:02:13
push it in and twist it it doesn't leak and then when you twist and pull out it it's springloaded
1:02:21
on the interior and it shuts the water off so there's only like two or three drips um or if any and it's just a great
1:02:30
way to fill your water tank it's got a open and close valve here so you can control how fast your water's going um
1:02:37
and you can invert it too so this one is a city water inlet but you can change it
1:02:43
so that it's actually pressurized and you can use it as a hose external hose
1:02:50
part um I do suggesting getting the bundle kit that has this little coupler
1:02:57
this little stainless coupler right here um it's if you go to Lowe's or Home
1:03:03
Depot it's going to be brass or it's going to be plastic uh but aquar has
1:03:09
actually made this really nice um this part right here actually you could just
1:03:15
buy this but see just really nice high quality and you're going to need this to
1:03:20
convert from a regular hose into this onoff valve for
1:03:27
example um yeah Rod I think the 36 gallon tank
1:03:33
from North plus conversion that's that's perfect it's exactly what I would go
1:03:38
with you don't cuz um what you might not know is just think about it if you're
1:03:45
doing a van build you don't have to always keep your water tank all the way full but if you ever needed that extra
1:03:50
capacity if you don't build it into the build in the beginning you're not going to have it there
1:04:01
later okay great questions great
1:04:07
questions okay let's answer we got time for one more question
1:04:15
um and as I'm looking up this question for you guys that are viewing the live
1:04:20
stream right now um if you have a question go ahead and ask it uh because I'm about to hop off here in a minute
1:04:32
okay um so this was our how to install vinyl graphics
1:04:50
video the question was where did I get this where did I get
1:04:58
this vinyl graphics from um so there's a company in town it's
1:05:03
called high performance Graphics uh it's hyperformance graphics
1:05:09
and I got them this is just a one-off piece um it's not a map of anywhere I just told them to make a topography
1:05:15
style map that's black and white and they put it on this uh vinyl that I've
1:05:22
never used before it's really nice it's um it's a prefered vinyl
1:05:28
that you don't have to pop the air holes you can it's you can press it with your thumb and just has these little micro
1:05:35
like laser preperations you can't even see it uh really really
1:05:46
cool um yeah so there's the
1:05:51
company so that's what they made for me uh for my van
1:05:56
um I'm probably going to make another order and do it for my personal van that'd be really
1:06:03
cool but yeah so yeah what I've been doing is I haven't been working on a
1:06:08
personal van because I've been working on the new course that
1:06:15
launched the camper van conversion blueprint that I've been working on is now available and uh so if you guys don't
1:06:22

1:06:29

1:07:43
between choosing new or used what the pros and cons are uh the benefits I talk
1:07:48
a little bit about you know why it's better to finance new or better to budget and buy your used B all of that
1:07:56
stuff is in there medium roof High roof low roof uh engine options um trim two
1:08:03
wheel drive four-wheel drive all-wheel drive that's covered in the choosing your van section the next section is
1:08:09
design and layout this is where I walk through uh van design layout some popular layouts you know putting your
1:08:16
the South different sleeping Arrangements kitchen Galley on the driver's side kitchen Galley on the
1:08:21
passenger side um tons of examples in photog phography from all the van shows
1:08:27

1:10:29
you uh be able to ask me questions in general um so that's part of the course

1:11:10

1:11:16
live stream asking questions and I appreciate it so that is the camper van
1:11:21
conversion blueprint the new DIY camper van course um that I just finished
1:11:28
up okay we were talking about
1:11:34
Graphics so yeah this is a new uh special perforated vinyl and
1:11:42
um I will tell you that the the hood was a challenge that as many Contours and having to shrink
1:11:49
the um are learning how to shrink vinyl um I give it up to the pros I mean I'm
1:11:55
pretty particular as you guys know from watching me on the channel but uh I was
1:12:01
happy with the job I did it just took me forever because I think I went a little aggressive like I did here um trying to
1:12:09
shrink it maybe too fast uh this vinyl was very
1:12:15
temperamental so if you shrink it too quick it got too weak and started
1:12:21
to yeah not work well um but in the
1:12:27
end you guys see here I actually I did was pretty proud of the job I did
1:12:33
um first time using this particular product and these are the vents to cut
1:12:40
out
1:12:46
vents and uh yeah so that's a little behind the scenes
1:12:52
of how I did that this is how I actually went down the whole entire side and uh
1:12:59
was able to stuff the vinyl into or underneath that vent and it just makes it a super pro install looks really
1:13:07
really good and yeah that's how it came out
1:13:13
so pretty good all right guys I don't see any more questions in the chat if that is it for
1:13:21
tonight uh thank you guys so much for staying tuned in make make sure you guys are subscribed hit that Thumbs Up Button
1:13:27
share this video to anybody who needs help doing their DIY camper van let them know that the camper van blueprint uh my
1:13:35
DIY camper van conversion course is now live and available for purchase and um yeah I'm going to
1:13:42
Overland Expo East tomorrow so it's possible if I have signal I I'll do like
1:13:47
a little live stream as I'm touring some Vans um but other than that I'll probably catch you guys uh Monday Noah's
1:13:56
back good timing Noah I almost ended the stream
1:14:01
um let's see what Noah's question is yeah I'll be at Overland Expo East
1:14:07
tomorrow all right Noah back again doing my subf floor right now uh how far
1:14:13
forward do do you bring your subfloor when doing it initially I was going to
1:14:18
bring it all the way to the rear seat boxes but now I'm thinking to cut it
1:14:25
farther back how far don't worry we can answer this
1:14:32
question stay right there we will find the answer
1:15:00
I know I've got a photo that I took like a
1:15:08
overhead let's see hold
1:15:17
[Music] on how far did I take that up
1:15:27
so Noah are you working on a Ford Transit
1:15:38
van let me let me know if yours is a Ford Transit I forgot what van you're
1:15:43
working
1:15:53
with I'm going to go get a temp template
1:16:34
[Applause]
1:17:00
trying to find a template if I can find this template I can measure what you're looking for give
1:17:07
me a second I'll find
1:17:20
it maybe this is it maybe this is the right one
1:17:33
ah okay check it out this is what I use for
1:17:39
making my floor pieces so this company is
1:17:45
uh ABC rig as you can see over on
1:17:51
the uh left side is this is the
1:17:58
step where' to go so this is the step for the Ford
1:18:03
Transit so the piece we're trying to figure out for you is this part right
1:18:08
here is this is this piece okay so
1:18:16
this I'm going to measure this right here and this right here that
1:18:22
distance um I'm sorry where is it uh what is
1:18:30
[Applause] that yeah okay we're going to measure this distance right here this distance
1:18:37
is the distance from this Frame member so can you see
1:18:43
that wait you can't see that give me one
1:18:52
second so see this Frame member right here so I'm going to give you this
1:18:59
Dimension and that shows you how far my floor goes from this
1:19:04
beam forward so like into the
1:19:11
plastic so uh let me get my drawing pad out too
1:19:20
[Applause]
1:19:25
so that is is one
1:19:32
two two and a half inches it's like two and a
1:19:40
half all right hold on I will get you the exact number give me one second
1:20:08
hopefully this doesn't mess up the live stream I'm plugging in a HDMI cable
1:20:14
we'll see what happens
1:20:44
H come on pad
1:20:58
no
1:21:08
signal there we go okay this is GNA be cool stick with me Noah we're gonna let
1:21:15
me get my computer working
1:21:23
here there there we
1:21:37
go okay I'm almost there almost there
1:21:59
so I'm going to draw it out I'm going to give you some dimensions on where this uh where I put
1:22:07
this get rid of all these
1:22:23
drawings oh cool heck yeah yeah I go hiking all the time so you probably checked out the
1:22:30
uh my personal YouTube it's got uh it's got all the hiking
1:22:36
videos so you can check out check out this
1:22:41
one so that's my name you can check out uh if you type in that name and go on
1:22:48
YouTube that's my personal Channel and it's got all the uh North Carolina
1:22:54
mountains that I go hiking
1:23:11
in okay hold on a second almost there okay all right so check out the drawing
1:23:17
pad so what we're going to do is we're going to draw out that pattern so it goes here down up a little bit of angle
1:23:26
straight over down and back okay so this
1:23:31
is the that's the floor panel um the seat
1:23:39
is so the seats are right here
1:23:46
one two and so I'm going to give you
1:23:55
this Dimension this Dimension so that is
1:24:06
two that's one it's two and
1:24:15
3/4 8 in so this one is uh two and three 3/4
1:24:26
inch and this one is 8 in so this red is going to be that metal
1:24:36
beam that is uh on Ford Transit so you got you got
1:24:41
a metal beam here by the
1:24:48
door and then you got a metal beam over here on the other side
1:24:59
and then if we go if we zoom in
1:25:05
here and we get like a almost like a little crosssection setup
1:25:13
thing so imagine this is the floor and imagine this is the
1:25:22
seat base
1:25:32
um what you should see is I'm going to do this in Orange but there should be a rubber floor in your
1:25:39
van and the rubber floor should kind of come down like that that makes
1:25:46
sense so the floor uh this purple stuff is going to be
1:25:53
insulation this is going to be like your half inch [Music]
1:25:58
insulation and then the black is going to be this is your
1:26:08
wood and orang this is
1:26:19
uh okay
1:26:25
okay so here's the here's the thing um so this is what you got to pay
1:26:31
attention to so I don't stir you wrong um I don't know what this is so
1:26:39
what you're going to have to do is this this 8 in that is what you're going to have to go by
1:26:47
so find this part and then take your tape measure and come out to to your
1:26:55
seat I'm sorry wait erase that take your tape measure on that piece of
1:27:01
metal and there's a gap right here so what you want to do is add just add a
1:27:08
half inch so now make this 8 and 1 12 in
1:27:26
so eight and one2 Ines there you go so this distance right here to
1:27:36
here this distance is 8 and a
1:27:42
half cool you're welcome I this is what I
1:27:48
like to do
1:27:57
heck yeah look at that knocking that out got to make make this video
1:28:04
smaller there you go and you can take a screenshot of that screen I'll pause it for examp for for a
1:28:11
second um so I'm guessing here I'll look in my
1:28:16
van let me just check in my van I don't I didn't do this method but I'm pretty sure it's pretty close
1:28:24
so in my van my floor
1:28:30
is let's see here ah I got a 2019 though I don't know if it's the
1:28:41
same there's no per there's no wrong way you can't go wrong
1:28:46
um I like to I like to focus on this part right
1:28:51
here for me it's a visual thing so if I were you this rubber how this
1:28:58
rubber interacts with the edge like that Ford factory
1:29:05
rubber that kind of goes under the seat
1:29:11
so wherever that
1:29:17
uh wherever this goes down is where I would that's where I would make make the
1:29:23
the distance from the back of the
1:29:29
seat but I think that gives you a really close reference
1:29:35
um yeah okay cool that
1:29:45
worked all right guys good stream tonight I'm going to take a picture of
1:29:50
these excellent questions for the
1:29:59
record uh yeah I was going to take the rubber out to fit more floring in there because there's really no
1:30:07
point oh here here here uh yep I'm I was an engineer in a past
1:30:15
life and I over comp complicate comp complicate things as well um here one
1:30:21
more thing though this is really important uh
1:30:27
so check this out this is really important
1:30:33
so right here I'm I need to I'm so right here is what I'm going to talk about in this next
1:30:39
drawing so this is very important don't go away here's your floor okay this is
1:30:46
the half inch floor for example under your floor there are
1:30:54
the ribs so you got the ribs of the van but right here at the front this is the
1:31:00
front of your van this is the this is where the seats are this is very
1:31:08
important that part does this so that uh the corrugation in the
1:31:14
floor uh comes down and so what happens is this
1:31:21
area this area right here is not
1:31:27
supported okay so this area right here is not supported
1:31:33
so you're going to so what I do is I glue in a piece of
1:31:40
vinyl uh like it's vinyl for a a porch so here let me show you what it
1:31:47
looks like
1:31:56
um maybe I don't have a
1:32:14
piece so this is a wood strip that I got for the example but uh what I do when I
1:32:19
do the floor is I put a vinyl strip so here's here's a strip so you
1:32:25
have the corrugations of the flooring and you want to set this down here but you need you need a lip to
1:32:33
go um you need something to go under
1:32:39
here like a piece of wood or some something like that um because when you step on this
1:32:45
it's going to be it's going to be smooshy it's not it's not going to hold up
1:32:52
um so you need to put something underneath that edge of the
1:33:00
floor I don't think i' do it in this video here let me back up let's go
1:33:09
to let's go to one more
1:33:17
thing all right this is last thing and I'll be done tonight
1:33:24
five
1:33:56
hold on a second Noah don't leave the live stream yet I don't think
1:34:02
that's is it
1:34:08
right hold on I'm looking at my video now it doesn't that doesn't look
1:34:14
right I think I get the numbers
1:34:22
backwards all right all right let me edit this this thing's backwards here because I'm looking at I'm looking at
1:34:27
this video right here so this one
1:34:35
and this is opposite so the template messed me
1:34:40
up see right here this is the wide side and this is the short side the two and
1:34:46
3/4 is how much it sticks out not eight and a
1:34:51
half so let me let me change this right here this is not
1:34:56
right so this is not correct so this
1:35:17
is this is goes like this hold on yeah this is uh
1:35:29
yeah so Noah let me know if you're still there so you can catch this update that
1:35:35
I did because I I drew it I drew it
1:35:43
incorrectly so this
1:36:01
this is 2 and
1:36:09
3/4 and this
1:36:22
one this is eight this is eight okay so make that
1:36:29
change okay good make that change that is see the template
1:36:36
is [Applause] uh I had the orientation wrong so this
1:36:44
it's that way so see right here I had the orientation wrong this is how far it
1:36:51
sticks in and the in the your back seat is right here so for ex here this is the way it
1:37:00
is so there's your step of your van that's your step right there and
1:37:07
then this so that's the way it is so your seat your seat is right here
1:37:13
right there so see it's the short
1:37:19
side so your seat bumps up against this
1:37:26
like [Applause]
1:37:35
that so now the beam that we're talking about is like
1:37:43
this let's fix this one
1:37:53
I mean it kind of makes sense now because this beam needs to be it needs to be kind of like the width
1:38:00
of the
1:38:07
door yes so
1:38:33
so it's two and 3/4 from that
1:38:40
okay okay there's the fix
1:38:58
there's the
1:39:04
fix so you can you can see it in this video that
1:39:10
um right here it's shorter the wide Parts here the short Parts here behind
1:39:16
the seat
1:39:36
yeah I mean there's just I got there's just so much so many videos to to go
1:39:48
through cool okay yep hopefully you got that um
1:40:02
all these videos that I'm showing you are in the live stream tab so you can
1:40:08
just dig through those and get the live stream
1:40:24
