hey guys welcome back to the live stream today we are continuing our progress on checking out troubleshooting the domenic
0:58
RTX 20 rooftop AC earlier today we took the cover off and now we're getting
1:04
ready to take out this middle foam piece so we can actually test the electrical
1:09
input um after the uh after the live stream
1:15
was off what I did was I went and I'm trying to set up a
1:20
12vt power supply over here so these batteries right there um sorry I need a
1:27
20 24volt power supp Supply and uh if I don't get that I'm
1:34
going to actually buy a uh little bench top voltage regulator
1:41
power supply I need one anyway I've I've needed it in the shop for a while but now that we're getting into
1:46
troubleshooting this stuff it's time to uh probably time to get one of those
1:54
um now what I'm using is I'm doing a couple things I have a warranty form
2:00
from doedic that I'm filling out so I'm
2:06
uh following their instructions on what information they actually need to get their troubleshooting so we can
2:14
get the uh replacement parts in um as far as today
2:20
goes we're going to test the fan and then tomorrow my goal is to give them the
2:25
final form so that they can you know figure out what's going on
2:31
I think that is a very simple fan replacement not a big deal inconvenient
2:38
yes a big deal I don't think so um one of our viewers Rod I know you
2:44
were concerned about you just bought a doedic RTX 2000 um I don't think they're bad at all um I've talked to doedic they
2:51
were very helpful on the phone uh that was my experience so far so I'm pretty much just capturing my experience during
2:57
this whole process because I'm sure if you guys have bought one of these units um rooftop units are not cheap so if you
3:04
hear that I have one that is malfunctioned um just remember everything in a van it's made somewhere
3:11
um you know there's Brands behind it but things do break and uh things need to be
3:17
fixed so in particular this fan so today what I'm going to do is I
3:25
will um yeah Rod I was following up with what
3:31
uh I was just saying about you your RTX install um I know you're a little worried I would not be so worried uh the
3:41
unit you have go ahead and install it you got a one-year warranty from uh when
3:46
you got it this fan uh I'm just going to walk through the whole process so in the event that
3:53
this does happen I don't think this is a difficult repair and then the board on the bottom
4:00
on the inside um I don't think we're going to get to that but yeah there are
4:06
tons of these units out there um so I would not get too worried about your
4:11
unit being one that may fail um but we're going to go through
4:17
this process anyway because this happened and we're just going to walk away through it all right so just to
4:22
bring everybody back up to speed this is the fan on the driver's side that doesn't work there's two reasons that it
4:29
may not work it maybe the fan is messed up however upon my research this is the
4:36
updated fan style uh there used to be a little opening here to where you know moisture
4:42
could get in or whatever um that's what somebody said I'm not seeing this is what happened but this one apparently is
4:48
the newer one and it's uh more sealed again that's just from somebody's
4:55
comments online so we're going to test this fan once we get the 48 I mean the 24volt
5:00
power supply setup we'll test this on another separate video today's video is going
5:06
to um where are we today we're going to take out this
5:12
foam and we're going to start doing our electrical
5:23
measurements but yeah I'm not making this video for like a sensational video
5:28
I'm just it's mainly me documenting how I'm fixing this so I can reference it back in the future but since I'm doing
5:36
all this stuff in the shop you guys get to enjoy the live
5:42
experience okay so up top on the van I've got all of my paperwork and we're going to take off
5:49
this piece of foam what's funny is what's making this
5:56
difficult it's not the AC it's how I'm it's how I'm having to access the AC cuz
6:01
I've got a tire carrier I've got a box on the back now so um I've already loosened this so when you take this
6:08
middle part out pull these back gently if you do everything gently you shouldn't have to replace anything Nova
6:15
nope come here um but we're just going to pop this open
6:35
yeah but I would say don't think that this is going to be your unit
6:43
um yeah I wouldn't worry about that until and it's what I'm going to do is
6:51
at the whole after everything gets buttoned up new stuff gets fixed this is on its way back to uh Brian and Robin
6:58
I'll do a summary on what my experience was like working with the medic talking to them in the whole process so that
7:06
should give you more comfort in knowing how your repair might be handled in the
7:12
future um yeah so let's see where we're going
7:20
here so we got that it's possible I may not have needed
7:26
to take that off again we're doing this live I am just going through these instructions
7:34
here while I'm doing this all right
7:57
so see so we need to check voltage at the control panel
8:04
board
8:46
so that's interesting this foam piece this is
8:52
where this of the evaporator
9:02
yeah I don't know have much stuff I want to actually take apart until I actually test that fan so we're going to put this cover back
9:08
on and this is a very tight fit CU you can actually see into the vehicle
9:13
underneath this foam so we're going to going to reseal
9:20
that yeah it's like a vacuum fit so just just be careful when you're when you're
9:26
doing this in the van
9:35
all right I need to get a different set of instructions um so I might have to redo
9:41
the camera
9:47
[Music]
10:07
okay I think we're going to have to go on the inside so I might have to re do the camera here in a
10:19
second now we just need to see what kind of screws do we've
10:27
got so we got a like a mini Torx bit
10:56
[Music]
11:08
[Music]
11:44
okay I'm I have to go back on another research Journey here to find the info I'm looking for um
12:15
yeah Rod I didn't want to uh worry you too much um this uh this video is not for effect
12:21
this is just stepbystep
12:27
troubleshooting um lots of things in advance and need troubleshooting so I say like if you're
12:33
doing your electrical yourself just take your time do everything step by step so you understand how you're wiring things
12:38
instead of doing the whole entire thing and then going back and trying to find the bug
12:44
so um for example on this unit I've seen some YouTube videos where people are
12:50
trying to swap the fans out they're trying to plug something in over here but slow down and test the fan off on
13:00
the bench don't test it on the next circuit cuz the fan could be the reason that the circuit blew on the board so if
13:06
you just move it to the other one to test it it'll blow the other one so you don't want to do that and uh like I said
13:13
in the other video I don't think this is a crazy fix I think it's simple although
13:19
inconvenient but we don't want to end up removing the whole entire thing just for a simple fan that we can have shipped to
13:27
us and plug back in and get the van up and running again
13:34
um so the troubleshooting guide that was under RTX 2000 was not the RTX 2000 that
13:42
I uh that's I'm I'm going through another I'm trying to find
13:48
another form here [Music]
13:53
so let's see here
14:07
so what we're doing is we're getting ready to take out these screws right here so
14:13
these
14:20
screws here we go all right so within this
14:27
system now I have this all memorized I know exactly how I wired this van um everything is in place the wire size is
14:35
exactly what it's supposed to be there's a 80 amp fuse that's where it's supposed to be it's not
14:41
blown our batteries are fully charged we've got a 80 amp fuse like I
14:47
said no problem the uh this right here this 2
14:53
Amp so this 2 Amp is the voltage sense for the uh the unit um when I was
15:00
talking to dedic that voltage sense is actually technically the parking lead so
15:07
if you had a uh like a semi TR or a sleeper cab that's what the RTX 2000 uh
15:14
the dedic RTX 200000 was originally designed for as for trucks um in fact that's the division
15:20
that actually uh works with them and troubleshoots them um that may be why
15:27
some people have had trouble with maybe customer service I have not had any problems with customer service so far so
15:33
I'm happy on that far that end I call them up they give me answers that I need
15:39
um so but on the phone they did tell me that this two amp circuit is the parking
15:46
sense so when the truck is in park that would allow you to actually power the unit on it's designed so that when the
15:54
truck is driving and the truck is not in park you're using the truck's a AC the
15:59
engine AC versus the uh air conditioner um so that's what that wire
16:06
is for but since we're kind of repurposing this truck cooler for a van or an
16:12
RV this has to be wired to the battery to get the voltage
16:18
sense and it's working um so the battery is fine this
16:24
is fine the 2 Amp is fine so we make our way into the this main PCB this main
16:33
board uh the compressor is coming on it's getting cold but the fan that needs
16:40
to take the heat away from the uh
16:46
condenser hold on a
16:53
second okay I need to make sure condenser versus evaporator
17:18
evaporator and
17:24
air trying to find a good example here if you guys don't know what I'm talking
17:31
[Music] about okay hopefully we're still live my
17:38
uh live stream just disconnected so let me know in the comments if I am still
17:45
live if you guys would save that image
18:11
here we go yeah Rod if you're still on let me know if I'm still
18:18
live uh so Rod's question is I need to preest my RTX 2000 before I install but I don't have a spare battery can connect
18:25
it to a 12 adapter then into my battery jumper which has a plug
18:32
so um you can if there's a way for you to
18:38
connect two batteries One battery should be able to start the RTX 2000 cuz but your lithium
18:47
battery needs to have at least 100 amps that it can provide uh immediately so there's like a
18:52
surge there's a surge voltage or I mean sorry there's a surge current when the
18:58
uh compressor gets kicked on that's why there's such a huge fuse for the Circuit
19:04
of the the air conditioner the air conditioner itself does not use does not
19:10
run off of uh does not the air conditioner itself does not run off of 80 amps that's just too much it's much
19:16
more efficient than that the ad amps is just that threshold so that when you turn the AC on and the fan spin up and
19:23
the compressor hits that it doesn't um you don't run out of juice so
19:29
you want the circuit capacity to have up to 80 amps of current to Kickstart that
19:34
compressor and then once it gets running it'll go from you know 70 60 65 40 amps
19:43
and then maybe it'll like hover around 38 to 40 amps when it's running um but it needs that it needs
19:51
that head room for that surge so if you hook so this Rod this is for you if you hook it up to one battery
19:59
as long as the battery is you know a battery that has uh the BMS will allow
20:06
you to use that 100 amps or whatever it it shouldn't turn itself off it should
20:12
be safe but just make sure that when you hook it up to your battery just to test it before
20:18
install that you have a 0m fuse in line to your battery um that you have the voltage
20:24
sense uh connected to the 12vt because if you don't um it probably won't turn
20:30
on so you're going to have your positive negative chunky wires like your six
20:35
gauge or uh your six gauge wires and then you're going to have the like 22
20:41
gauge the thin wires and those are your scents so this is the current this is the one this is the circuit that needs
20:47
an 80 amp fuse to test this circuit needs 2 Amp Fuse to test hook them both
20:53
together and then um preferably if you can put like a little little switch in there not like
21:01
don't Arc both wires together to kick it on that's not not
21:06
good um let's see here so go and Do's got a
21:13
question hey go and do good to have you in the chat um I don't know if you remember but I put the end will be 12
21:19
Vol AC in my van and connected it to the Eco full power kit I'm not happy with
21:25
how it's performing um so so the so the 12vt into
21:31
the EC flow so go and do remind me um the AC unit you had did you get
21:39
the was it the dedic RTX was it the nomatic cooling what unit did you
21:53
buy um I heard there's a way to connect a 48 volt AC to ecoflow power C do you know yes so I installed a 48volt nomatic
22:02
cooling X2 unit on John and Susan's van and that is a direct connect to the
22:08
ecoflow system um so let me know what AC unit you have
22:17
currently the nelb okay
22:23
um gotcha yeah cuz I think the the NLB I don't think it's a bad unit I do think
22:30
that it's made for a much smaller vehicle it's possibly the
22:36
uh maybe the BTUs Aren't Enough um to get you what how cool you
22:41
want it to be I'm guessing that's what you're um
22:47
experiencing
22:53
um let's see but yeah if you have the Eco flow
22:58
what you can do is you can do a direct connection where is my let me see let me
23:04
see if I can find my
23:09
uh let me see if I can find my
23:25
video yeah yeah go and do let me know what the indel B is not doing for you if
23:32
it's operation or if it's cooling
23:40
capacity where is trying to find my eco [Music]
23:53
flow there we go
24:03
so this is the John and Susan camper van conversion and we're going to fast
24:08
forward till I get to the ecoflow here we
24:15
go okay so right here if you look at
24:21
this you got a couple of things going on you have this plug is your 30 amp DC to DC
24:32
this is the 60 amp DC to DC supplement cable that I
24:38
installed this one what is this one I think okay think
24:43
this is the solar this one is the 48volt battery this is what you're supposed to
24:50
populate with a second 48volt battery but what you do is they sell a bare
24:55
cable a bare end cable this plug is the exact same plug as the
25:01
battery as you can see but the it what we have here is the end of this cable is open and so this is a direct 48v power
25:09
it's not fused so you have to fuse this cable but you can plug this in and then this cable plugs directly into a
25:18
48v uh AC unit it doesn't matter what company um
25:24
it just provides 48 volts of power so that's how I did it and then this one I
25:30
think is the AC uh Shore power
25:35
input yeah so go and do you can definitely you can upgrade to a 48 volt
25:40
unit if you want to uh John and Susan currently have the
25:48
um nomatic [Music] cooling okay so they they currently have
25:55
this one this isomatic cooling 48 volt X2
26:00
so if we're gonna let's see here we got the indel
26:08
b b okay so I'm guessing you got this
26:17
one okay so you got this one so it's 4,92
26:23
BTU and then the uh
26:33
thetic X2 pneumatic X2 48
26:46
volt yeah I want I want to start selling these AC units uh on vanb or HQ we we're
26:53
working on that so if you guys are interested in supporting us with uh
27:00
creating our online you know e-commerce with these um AC units and products uh
27:06
so you can purchase them through US put that in the comment I'd be really excited to hear um if you guys are
27:12
excited about that um that's something behind the scenes that we're looking at doing um that way you can just get it
27:21
directly through me and that helps out the channel it helps me out business wise
27:29
obviously so right here is sorry here is a Pneumatic
27:35
um so the 4,92 btu here and then the
27:41
X2 is 12,000 BT so almost three times the cooling now
27:48
I'll be honest with you the 48 to 12 volt conversion have this being three times
27:55
the cooling capacity uh I'm still understanding you know is
28:01
that a one:1 ratio does that mean if this is 12,000 at 48
28:07
volts um it still means that if this unit was at 48 volts it still be a 4,000
28:13
BTU unit um so I'm still learning those
28:20
uh formulas those trans uh what am I trying to
28:26
say if it's a one to one replacement obviously 12vt is different
28:31
than 48 volt that goes without saying but the btu value is what I'm interested in but yeah so go do if you did the 48
28:38
volt you'd be going from 4,000 BTUs and if you did the nomatic cooling unit you'd be going to
28:44
12,000 4 a12 like pretty much almost a 3X in the cooling
28:50
capacity um so hopefully that answers your question
29:00
yeah yeah let me know if that answers your
29:10
question okay so while I'm waiting to hear back if you guys have any questions on that I'm going to look for
29:17
my allen wrench so I can get inside this unit inside the
29:23
van um yeah once I get in
29:28
side I'll move the camera I've got the camera
29:37
um I may have to reposition
29:42
this yeah I might go off camera for just a minute let me know your questions I'll be right
29:57
back for
30:48
okay we got one screw out yeah sorry I don't have a camera in
30:54
here I've got the van pulled in all the way backwards into the shop
31:00
so my live stream rig is not at the moment able to hop over here so give me
31:07
one
31:22
second yeah so this is like I don't know why they do this
31:29
the Torx bit I'm actually going to have probably have to get into my uh computer repair tool kit cuz these
31:40
Torx they're like a mini mini Torx bit
32:06
yeah you know you're working with electronics when you're starting to get
32:11
mini mini torque bits going
32:21
on all right what size is this guy it
32:26
is a T9 so that is very
32:35
small or is it a T15
33:01
T10 it's a T10 okay
33:24
T10 yes we're using a uh um let's see do you have a video that
33:30
explains how to wire the 48v unit
33:39
um did I fil I'm trying to think if I filmed that or not uh it'll just take a sec here I'll
33:47
just show you right now it's um it's very
33:54
straightforward so what you're going to do
34:02
I'll show you really
34:15
quick so this is your let's do black
34:30
so this is your 48volt battery uh the 48volt battery is
34:36
connected to the ecoflow
34:43
hub and then your Hub has a wire coming
34:49
out and this is a 48 volt battery cable
34:59
and it's yeah so if we go online I'll show it up
35:09
here I think camper van HQ no affiliation with me
35:18
but has this 48
35:24
volt cable for
36:05
all right so I'm looking it up right now it looks like one of these I just
36:11
can't
36:17
find that's the DC so you got to type in
36:23
ecoflow 48 volt a
36:30
c or a SL C power
36:57
give me one second I'll find
37:20
this okay it's on a different website but so I went on rack up and go um this
37:27
is what it looks like so it's a power cable but see the ends are uh the ends
37:32
right here are open see they're how they're frayed so what you're going to do is this
37:38
cable is this right here so that cable is this
37:45
cable and it plugs into your Hub and it plugs into the port that is one of your battery
37:53
ports so the port that it plugs into is this one right right here so if we
37:58
[Music] go okay ignore my
38:09
finger this one see right here where my mouse is moving around that is the cable
38:16
that cable is this cable this cable is this cable where my mouse is
38:23
not where my finger is it's where the mouse is right there this cable you plug
38:31
in and that is this cable and so when you take that cable what you want to do
38:37
is I'm going to make it blue now so that cable goes up into your ceiling you need to have uh there needs
38:46
to be a fuse right here and then that goes into your um
38:58
your 48 volt uh X2 a
39:09
c so it's very simple it's just this connection right here just
39:16
plugs in so this is your first connection goes all the way up through the
39:22
roof this is the second connection
39:27
so you got step one step two is a fuse step three is a this is an
39:39
Anderson connector it's probably a
39:47
mini and so the plug you'll need to get is this
39:53
thing let's see
40:11
okay it's not mini I don't I don't know why I said manyi they're different sizes
40:18
um so you need to make sure uh I don't know the top of my up
40:23
the top of my head what this is but you see it says uh
40:28
Anderson number 10 through number 12 I don't know what gauge
40:34
wire the nomatic cooling is using so let me let me figure this out
41:55
oh come on
42:08
so we're going to go to the manual here and we're going to
42:15
go so they're using for the 48 volt system just triple check X2
42:32
48 is a 15 amp so 10 gauge okay so a 10 gauge you would need this
42:39
connector this particular Anderson connector and you want to get this cable
42:46
the ecoflow power kit 48 volt AC cable and that cable is just going to
42:52
allow you to directly wire it to the AC unit itself
42:57
and just be very careful have it pre-wired before you plug it
43:03
in um because 48 volt is the dangerous one you don't want to touch live wires
43:11
with 48 volt wire everything and then use the plug to plug
43:16
it in and then power the system on but to be honest it is straightforward there's a plug on the Hub you buy the
43:24
battery cable you put your inline fuse which the inline
43:30
fuse for this one is 30
43:37
amps right there so that's 30 amps right here 30 amps for the 48
43:44
volt 10 gauge wiring so you do all
43:52
that and then you wire it into the unit and then this thing is uh is all
43:58
ready to go I'll have to look to see if I
44:04
actually have an install I don't think I do um sometimes in the shop I just got to knock things out and I don't actually
44:10
get to always videotape everything as you guys know so it's possibly it's on
44:16
one of the past live streams I just haven't checked um yeah these are great questions so I
44:23
hope this is helping you guys out um oh yeah Nova's doing good she's back over
44:29
there laying down yeah appreciate you guys staying
44:35
tuned in watching the channel getting subscribed um it's it's uh yeah it's good to
44:43
have people that are have been watching the live stream for a long time that's really fun so it's great questions as
44:51
always um yeah I'm going to hop back in the van I'm going to leave this up for a second
44:57
in case you want to look at it but I'm going to hop back in the van I'm going to use this very tiny Precision
45:03
screwdriver to take the the cover off on the inside and then I'll be back at the computer so if you have any questions in
45:10
the meantime give me five minutes I'll be back to answer
45:22
those and by the way if anybody's watching I do have a van DIY van build course that's coming out October
45:30
1st and you guys can check the link uh in the description it's probably not
45:35
there yet but if you go to Van Builder hq.com it's there it's different from
45:40
the van build the DIY van build cheat sheet so the DIY vble cheat sheet is free it's there to help you guys with uh
45:48
the parts that I use in the shop so it's just a free download um but the DIY van build
45:54
conversion course is what's new and that will be out October 1st but if you buy
46:00
it today you're going to be able to save on
46:07
that uh before it
46:14
launches and I may need to get a ratchet to undo these these screws in here are
46:21
unbelievably tight
46:42
wow is so tight I might need a ratchet for this
46:48
one
46:58
yeah so we got C we have six T10 Torx screws taking this cover
47:09
off like I said I will see if I can move the camera here in just a
47:18
second the instructions I was going to link below with the circuit diagram is from the nomatic
47:24
cooling 2000 12 Vol not the doedic RTX 2000 so the wording on the
47:31
website is weird but nomatic cooling does not sell
47:37
the domatic line anymore they're only selling their brand
47:43
uh nomatic cooling so they all sound kind of the
47:48
same
48:12
okay six screws are out cover is off how do we take this off
49:34
okay we got another got another weird Torx bit
49:46
here interesting they're using torx bits for all
49:52
these so let's see what size this one is because I'm actually going to need an
49:58
extension to get the rest of this
50:04
off okay thankfully this one is also a t what's this
50:16
T25 see if you got some
50:21
questions never miss it yeah
50:27
thanks for watching for
50:40
sure I think what we're going to do is lock these back doors and get the
50:46
camera up in the back
51:10
all right where's my
51:18
mouse we go
51:59
okay I got the van cam see if we can move this thing
52:07
around
52:15
perfect okay here's the unit let's see how much we can get into
52:20
here again like I said there's not that much troubleshooting documentation so I
52:28
am doing my thing and recording everything so I can help
52:39
out okay we got that one off now we're going to this one they definitely have these
52:47
uh lock tighted in there this is the grill that I just took
52:55
off for
53:49
so as you guys can see we have this nice Adventure wagon interior system
53:57
and I'm hoping that I don't have to
54:03
uh take this panel out it's completely doable but I don't
54:11
want it I don't want to do
54:19
it it's like a jigsaw puzzle I will do it if I need to if I have to do it I
54:25
will do it
54:35
okay there's the four I don't know if this screen pops
54:45
off this feels promising
55:02
is a very tight fit but that's also because uh of how I installed
55:25
this okay okay as I'm taking this off let me get a
55:31
flashlight if you never Tak anything apart before as you take stuff
55:37
apart this is coming from somebody who professionally takes stuff apart his whole life you just need to think about
55:45
what could be behind something that you're taking apart is it a gasket is it sealant is it something
55:53
that so I've got a little bit of gasket material here is for the temp sensor so
56:00
we're still okay looks like we're not hurting
56:06
anything um it looks like we're going to get to a point where we're going to have to unplug the
56:16
board so there's the control board
56:36
so what I may do
56:42
is get the pull the disconnect
56:49
switch see my thing is this RTX 2000 is a tapered incoming and what's happening
56:56
is as I pull it down more through the adventure wagon it's getting tighter
57:03
um so I think I might have to actually take the panel out
57:28
so the goal of this video is to test the power is to test the
57:34
board I don't think I need to be doing this but I'm just doing it anyway because I have to fill it
57:41
out on the warranty form um okay
58:03
the good news is I have a tool that I can undo my Venture wagon
58:08
install
58:14
quickly see
58:19
here if you guys have uh if you've tuned in you've never watched the channel before I just do Long Live recordings
58:28
essentially that way I can go back and kind of piece stuff together so if you're wondering why it's
58:36
not a concise video it's pretty much because it's just me working live in the shop
58:43
and some of this stuff I'm sure can be helpful but it is definitely long form
58:52
content because it's live
59:08
all right let's see if we can do this I can't really zoom out further
59:18
but yeah in the meantime if you guys have questions just uh let me know
59:28
[Applause]
59:46
I will hop back on the computer like back and forth to answer questions and today it's okay
59:54
could be anything van related will'll be fine
1:00:32
so what you guys can't see is there's these elra runs that are
1:00:40
holding like this one right here and this El is holding in these
1:00:47
panels I'm just taking them out
1:01:19
[Applause]
1:01:46
[Applause] okay I got to be careful over in this
1:01:52
panel because there is a wigo connector I installed in the event that I needed to do
1:02:00
this that is connected to the lights which is on
1:02:06
the of course it's on the opposite side oh man van building let me tell you
1:02:16
I do love this don't take it for me not enjoying
1:02:22
this it's the exciting part of the job
1:02:29
okay I think I can get away with doing this let's see here I have to move the camera I'm just going to hang this
1:02:41
actually there we go you just hang it right
1:02:49
there okay look at that um let's move this camera give me
1:02:55
one second second guys it's going to look crazy before it looks
1:03:12
good all right the camera's gonna do something crazy give me one
1:03:18
second so there's the panel I took out so see Adventure wagon panel so Brian
1:03:25
and Robin that pillow came out came in handy uh yeah this was yeah this is much
1:03:32
easier than I thought sometimes there's more things that you have to move out to
1:03:37
take Adventure wagon panels off uh this one not so bad so we're going to zoom back
1:03:43
in because the focus is the air conditioner all right rod has a question
1:03:49
he says torque bit and locktite removed all
1:03:54
d-rings and two stripped now I have to use extractor
1:04:02
bits um torque bits and lock tight removed
1:04:07
all d-rings and second stripped now I have to use extra
1:04:12
bolts what about connecting RTX what about connecting RTX to my
1:04:20
battery in in my Mercedes SUV with fuses just a
1:04:30
thought
1:04:35
um here
1:04:42
Mercedes um what would I do in that
1:04:50
situation if you do that don't crank the car up whatever you
1:04:57
do uh just just use the battery uh just connect to the battery
1:05:04
but don't do not crank the car up if you have your if you're testing it that way
1:05:10
um yeah yeah yeah so just you can use the battery just make sure the car is off and you you don't crank it and you
1:05:16
don't run it because when you crank it you're going to get that current Surge from the alternator
1:05:22
and uh we don't know what's going to happen after that so if you're just using the
1:05:28
battery car's off and you just alligator clip to it okay
1:05:34
good yeah just for the battery I think that would be okay
1:05:45
um yeah and by the way be patient with the RTX 2000 unit when you turn it
1:05:52
on just wait because the small fans up top will turn on they going to get going
1:05:57
it's going to take one two maybe 3 minutes then you know four through 4
1:06:04
minute 5 six s you know the compressor is going to kick on it's the air is not going to be cold
1:06:11
just wait be patient give it 10 15 minutes um I know it's supposed to work
1:06:18
faster than that but in your testing phase give it give it a chance to warm
1:06:24
up and then um I say 15 to 20 minutes it should be cold and then I
1:06:32
make the final decision at like 30 minutes you know see how how cold the air is coming out check to make sure all
1:06:38
the fans running but give give it give it some time um it's going to make be a lot of
1:06:44
factors you know are you testing this in your garage if you're if you're testing it in something that's like 70° 70
1:06:50
degrees and you're trying to cool the unit down at 68 you might not feel that big of a difference
1:06:56
um so but yeah just give the give the unit a chance don't don't assume is
1:07:01
don't assume it's bad I I highly doubt that it's I highly doubt it's going to be bad
1:07:08
I need to change my camera [Music]
1:07:14
angle nope nope there you
1:07:20
go all right
1:07:31
got some exciting stuff happening in the shop today I mean this week um so today and tomorrow working on
1:07:37
this uh tomorrow I take a class and I'm getting uh W basto certified I got a
1:07:43
two-day course I'm taking Tuesday and Wednesday um Thomas
1:07:50
with Marine one it's coming by we're going to put a Shore power plug in the outside of his van
1:07:56
make it a little bit more convenient for him to um plug a cord in without having
1:08:01
to run it through the window and then we're going to do a couple other
1:08:06
things and then we got a new customer coming in and we will actually be installing a
1:08:13
replacement um so this uh a replacement nomatic
1:08:19
unit um and just warranty replacement um nothing nothing crazy
1:08:26
and uh yeah let's see here oh
1:08:37
yeah it funny when I was pulling this down it felt a little bit like okay that's coming down really easy so we got
1:08:44
one two three four now these are up in here so you see this right here watch
1:08:51
this goes all the way up right there that's where the bolt is so you're going to need something really
1:08:56
long and so those are these chunky t25s and then t10s are going to be what
1:09:02
you use for the grill so let's pull this down gently remember we got cables attached to
1:09:11
it uh on my
1:09:20
insulation okay good I wish wish I could not have
1:09:27
to unplug this and plug it back
1:09:33
in that Cable's just not long enough for me to test the
1:09:40
board in the back [Music]
1:10:03
okay that's the control board
1:10:32
okay actually I think I can can I touch those okay I think I can do
1:10:39
it now you may asking Nick why don't you just unplug it and take it off well I
1:10:45
don't know if I unplug it if it doesn't have a power on then I
1:10:50
can't test it to test it uh with the power on
1:10:56
so I'm just going step by step but I think I can get my probes in the back here to be able to check this
1:11:05
out cu I don't want to cut the power off because the whole point is to check to
1:11:10
check the power check how much voltage it has all right where is our
1:11:17
meter it was right behind me the whole time
1:11:23
excellent I see some questions I will get to them in one second all right guys I'm using a
1:11:30
voltmeter right here this is what it looks like we're setting it to volts
1:11:36
making sure that we have DC selected in the
1:11:42
back right side or if you're looking from the back of the van the driver's side is where the incoming power
1:11:50
is uh don't cross the terminals when you go
1:11:56
in here to push it in here to figure out the voltage because you don't want to this is after the fuse this is going
1:12:03
into the unit we don't want to um Arc anything accidentally because we
1:12:09
our hands were shaky or whatever so hit the two
1:12:15
terminals we got 13.9 volts
1:12:21
13.9 so looks like we're good
1:12:29
um yeah honestly do not
1:12:35
see that we have any issue here I'm just going by the little warranty
1:12:43
paper all right let's see where we need to fill this information
1:12:51
up um do I prefer wabaso over espar uh I don't have a preference um well
1:12:59
basto is just what I've bought and I'm familiar with so I'm just kind of sticking with
1:13:05
that okay start answering this form
1:13:30
okay this this that form that I'm talking
1:13:36
about so there is uh no
1:13:44
leak compressor running yes amp draw from Blue compressor
1:13:52
wire is that something we can access inside of the
1:14:06
van there's no blue wire in here no blue wire anywhere
1:14:31
um I am going to test [Music] the fuse
1:15:20
huh I don't think I spoke to soon but we might might be finding out here
1:15:28
the unit's off so the fuse may not be engaged that's what my thought
1:15:42
is I know this is not on camera just give me a
1:15:51
second huh well they can't there's no way they can
1:15:57
be bad
1:16:23
because for
1:17:27
okay stere continuity I know I didn't change the
1:17:32
camera I'm sorry I'm up in the
1:17:37
van no we're okay okay fuse is good
1:17:46
[Music]
1:18:10
yeah everything's looking good it just it looks like I got to figure out this blue wire on top of the
1:18:17
van cuz I had not found it yeah
1:18:32
here's I don't see any blue compressor wire yeah I don't see any blue
1:18:38
compressor wire there's a green brown white and two
1:18:49
gray well I know their compressors w't running so they compressor is
1:18:57
running so I will ask them on the phone what that means amp draw from Blue compressor wire
1:19:04
there's no blue compressor wire so 13.07 I think was our
1:19:16
voltage there's no error code 80 amp inline fuse is good
1:19:25
Anderson plug is
1:19:32
good I just think it's a fan I think it's a simple fan
1:19:39
um well can you add a link to the dedic sheet you're filling
1:19:46
out um I'm I'm not going to link this sheet
1:19:52
uh because this sheet was given to me by their service department and so I would I'd recommend
1:20:00
that if you have a warranty issue you go through them um I'll help you guys on the side of
1:20:08
troubleshooting but paperwork wise I'm going let them be in control of that
1:20:28
okay so I'm charging these batteries up here this is my a little test rig
1:20:50
um let's see here and yes the shop is a mess
1:20:56
we've been doing lots of
1:21:15
builds that thing is still at 5
1:21:20
volts all right so I'm going to have to get that
1:21:27
uh power supply I'm going have to buy one I was trying to jump these I mean connect these two batteries together get
1:21:32
me a 24volt power supply uh this battery back here was the
1:21:38
bad battery I pulled out and replaced uh for Brian and Robin before delivering
1:21:44
their van so that uh
1:21:52
yeah it's a it's still a bad battery I was I was going to try to save it
1:21:57
but um yeah uh yeah um yeah so rod hold tight I'll
1:22:06
go through the whole process I'll talk to customer service and I'll figure out the best way to communicate with the
1:22:12
medic in the event that in the future you have an issue you can just kind of refer back to this uh little video I
1:22:18
have like I said so far they've been very helpful um so right now I'm going
1:22:23
to hop in the car um there's actually a new Micro Center in Charlotte North Carolina and I'm
1:22:30
going to go pick up a power supply there uh if you guys don't know what a power supply is it's it's basically
1:22:37
something that you can use in this shop to dial in a certain voltage you want to supply something with so if you got like
1:22:43
a 12vt system like on a van and you want to test like a DC todc charger or you want to test a certain amperage or
1:22:50
voltage um or or heck you just want to char Char your battery very specifically with a
1:22:56
specific voltage um this is the thing you should get uh the cool thing is this
1:23:02
one I'm getting is uh let me see if I can pull it
1:23:20
up uh you want to Google bench top uh benchtop power
1:23:36
supply uh let's see
1:23:45
here so this is this is what I'm looking
1:23:51
at this is not the one I looked up earlier
1:23:58
where is this one located anyway this is the unit this is what it looks like you got leads you can
1:24:03
dial stuff in and this it's just a tool to have my toolbox to actually do these troubleshooting stuff
1:24:10
accurately so if somebody wants me to test an actual specific voltage I can do
1:24:16
it um so yeah I'm going go pick this up maybe I'll do a late night live stream
1:24:21
where we can finally figure out if the fan is it's
1:24:26
good or not um if it is the fan the next thing I'm going to check is what is in
1:24:33
this video um not this video hold
1:24:38
on where did it go
1:25:22
look at that guys the AL algorithm is working here's the video
1:25:28
already um okay this video this Deon
1:25:34
steel or Devon
1:25:40
steel okay so he's testing with the power supply that I'm going to
1:25:47
buy and this is just a you know just a person's YouTube
1:25:54
I don't recommend or endorse anybody on here I'm just showing you what I
1:26:01
found uh and what his fix was is replacing
1:26:08
these for Brandon Robin we're going to replace the board we will not do a repair like
1:26:14
this but this is what he did these are uh I believe they're resistors he's
1:26:23
calling them fuses but these two control the fans on top of
1:26:28
the van this circuit and basically the bottom one is uh broken so the fuse I
1:26:38
guess is blown and so he slded a new one on top and what he what problem he had
1:26:44
was the fans shorted and the fan shorted and then blew these out so his board
1:26:50
wasn't bad the fan kept shorting these fuses so that would be the final fix and
1:26:57
I'm I'm sure doic would just send me a new board we'll pop it in turn
1:27:03
everything on test it and we'll be out the door ready to go so as technical as this looks
1:27:11
I'm very uh what's the word I'm trying to
1:27:17
say I don't think this is going to be a big deal up here I think it's going to be very simple surprisingly simple that
1:27:23
is my that's my words right now so we're going to go to the store we're going to get this power supply we're going to do
1:27:29
the final testing tonight and then the next stop step is sending in this warranty form uh we'll call them up and
1:27:36
then see if they can get us the recommended part to repair this and then we'll just be on our
1:27:43
way um because to be honest I just I like the form factor of the RTX 200000 I
1:27:49
like how uh you don't have to create a little
1:27:54
vent chamber it's an integrated chamber to where when you put it in the hole of the van it's sealed and you don't have
1:28:01
to create um you don't to use like the foil tape and reinsulate the little air Chambers and put a divider I'm not
1:28:07
saying that the nomatic cooling is not good the nomatic cooling is great um specifically the 48 volt for the ecoflow
1:28:14
I really like that but if you're doing a 12vt um actually 12vt 48 volt 24 volt
1:28:20
does not matter I like the nomatic I mean the jeez I like the Dometic RTX
1:28:26
because it's an all-in-one unit and uh you really can use it for any van
1:28:31
whereas if you have the nomatic cooling it's great too there's just a
1:28:37
little bit more work that needs to be done uh behind the scenes to get that um
1:28:43
that trim piece to look nice and if you don't want to do the work for example to
1:28:51
get this trim piece looking really nice and sealed on the inside just that extra step if you
1:28:58
don't want that extra step then this uh then this shroud right here is nice
1:29:04
because it's just it's already done for you you just cut the hole out pop it in
1:29:09
um you don't have to do all that stuff I just said so yeah that's the that's the two
1:29:17
different ways um but you know owning a van doing a DIY van can
1:29:25
um a lot of people have done conversions there's hundreds of thousands of vans that have been converted but you know
1:29:31
all the stuff that are in Vans um they're Parts just like anything else they had the potential to break
1:29:38
so uh yeah this is a situation where I'm just kind of go start to finish on the
1:29:44
process and just here to help you guys out if you get in this situation you can
1:29:50
just Google my video and you get the answer um before we leave check out the DIY van
1:29:58
build sheet sheet this is a Excel sheet of the last three years of all my
1:30:04
purchases from Amazon it's organized we've got bolts nut screws we've got
1:30:09
fuses we've got tools um water pumps all kinds of parts
1:30:14
that I've gotten off Amazon the best part is it's completely free just put your name and email address and come
1:30:21
right to your inbox and it'll help you out with your DIY build again it's just a simple Excel form of all the stuff
1:30:27
that I use in the shop it continually grows so I've got a bunch of stuff I've got to add to it currently um but yeah
1:30:34
that is something just uh help you guys out this is the new item that I am
1:30:41
putting together it is the camper van it's called the camper van conversion
1:30:46
