this uh camera framed up
0:06
here see how that's going to look there we go all right in today's
0:12
video we are doing Cable Management uh we are wiring
0:19
in uh a switch for the water pump that also controls a bunch of other stuff but
0:26
um what's exciting is when you get to this point all the wires are ran everything is working um it's just you
0:34
know taking time to to clean everything up shorten the wires and stuff like that uh if you don't know what we're
0:40
doing we are working on uh Brian and Robin's Adventure van
0:45
with their upgrades and they're actually coming up this weekend to uh pick up the van so
0:52
even though it looks kind of like a mess um it's really just neatening things up
0:57
uh as far as the kitchen galy goes we've got the microwave in it's bolted down
1:03
set to go we got our Shelf bolted in that actually supporting the water pump so this is the um location of the water
1:11
pump we've went ahead and ran all of our lines uh you may have seen that in some
1:16
of the time lapse I don't think I uploaded that actually but we have our
1:22
water lines our PEX a ran all the way to the back um earlier this morning we went
1:28
ahead and filled up and did a leak test on everything um as soon as we get this
1:36
this is the main thing I wanted to go over in this video was this uh kind of fancy wiring thing I do for the water
1:43
pump it's simple but it's it's one switch that does a a bunch of
1:48
functions um so I wanted to show you that before I actually did the second so
1:54
the first leak test is the tank so it's to make sure that the the PEX a fittings
2:00
anything that we crimped is actually um you know not weeping or having like a
2:05
little drip or something like that and uh I go over the whole entire process of how to do that uh in the uh blueprint
2:13
van conversion course which you can pre-order today we're doing a pre-sale where you guys can actually uh get a
2:20
discount before it goes live October 1st so check out van Builder hq.com the van
2:25
build course is uh going to be launched on October 1st so I'm really excited a
2:30
lot of behind the scenes stuff um will be in that course so love for you guys
2:36
to go ahead and pick that up purchase it um but just get into it I do a double
2:43
seal on these joints to where I use a mixture of two components which
2:50
are Mega tape and it's it's a PTFE tape and then
2:57
I use something called Rector seal uh soft set slow dry number five these
3:03
two in combinations um they really give me the confidence to get this fan on its
3:09
way and not have to worry about leaks or anything like that um but yeah we've got about 20
3:16
gallons just sitting in the tank just kind of hanging out um it'll be hanging out like the next two
3:23
days uh but we pretty much checked that off our list um all the PEX lines have been ran um the pressure test with them
3:30
comes when I finish this today which is getting power to the pump and just
3:36
testing uh all the joints under pressure from the pump so you can do non
3:42
pressurized and then pressurized which we'll do today and uh yeah it's pretty much um
3:49
straightforward here on out we've got our step with the drawer slide here to get in and out with some additional
3:55
storage we've modified this bottom drawer uh there's just like three pieces of what I got to tack into place um also
4:04
we'll be doing our final glue and fit with this so this right
4:11
here um where I got one more fitting from below
4:23
I so I'm using these things uh again you know how like do a little
4:30
Overkill here this is schedule 40 pipe for
4:35
uh the plumbing and um these fernco fittings I really really like them
4:40
because you can take a screwdriver and you can quickly disassemble this now
4:47
this joint here that goes right here for the uh the tank so this is kind of what
4:54
it looks like so we have our sink sink comes down
5:02
and then we have a hard Line This fernco fitting is going to replace this joint here um I just this is just more I put
5:10
this in so I can get a placeholder so I can cut this on the miter saw so this is all sized we'll use
5:17
uh uh the PVC cement for this bottom section and then the firm Co is going to
5:23
go here and then we got an additional one here and at the sink so if you accidentally put something down the
5:29
drain or you goof and I don't know you do something weird to where you need to clean this out you just undo this and
5:38
undo this one or the one from the sink um this whole panel comes off and then this whole entire section you would just
5:45
take this out and then you can take this out clean down your tank um so just a
5:52
lot of flexibility in Maintenance and Service of your van so think about that
5:57
when you're doing your van um ALS also these bur Coes really get this out of the
6:03
way so that we can make sure we have a ton of room in here for storage and then also they have a um trino toilet that's
6:12
going to go in there so they have the mediumsized toilet and this is it's
6:17
about the size of the box so you can see it's going to fit perfectly right underneath that bend that we have
6:23
underneath the
6:28
sink so this is going in in just a couple
6:38
minutes more exciting news in the shop we are actually got another customer coming up um in a few weeks and we are
6:47
replacing we're doing a uh a AC replacement on the roof so I
6:55
just got delivered the replacement unit we'll be going through that kind of step by step on how to replace that if one
7:01
goes bad in the future it's G to be pretty good video um and should be pretty
7:07
straightforward because all the wiring is ready to go it's already got you already has an AC unit we're just going to be popping one off popping the second
7:13
one in and uh rewiring it just a little bit um so that's coming up that's
7:21
exciting so right here um I talked about this when I did John and Susan's van uh
7:29
again access maintenance is something you really got to think about um and if you can see the way that
7:38
I bring this in here uh what's going to happen is there are these
7:45
I there's these little electrical they're cable clamps they're
7:51
3/4 in cable clamps and they're designed for like electrical cable kind a heavy
7:57
duty electrical cable um um and I use them for this
8:03
PEX so I put it on the PEX and then I'll take one Tres head screw and I'll just
8:11
take this and I'll bring it in and bolt it to the back of this
8:17
panel uh it's a little bit of double work if you ever need to take this panel off but I think two screws is well worth
8:22
it to make sure you don't have anything vibrate um so again this uh we'll take
8:28
these and these will actually come around here and they're just going to pull this in and bolt this against the
8:34
back panel so when you're driving this does not become a
8:41
rattle um one thing that kind of goes comes with the territory is if you do want your drain your spray wand to go up
8:50
and down and work um you really cannot get away from this thing moving around you need this
8:56
to be free so uh you know the toilet if it pushes up against here um you should
9:02
be fine but just remember there are compromises in vans so there is a weight
9:10
that goes on the wand that you pull up and down and this weight um I'll do my best to make sure
9:17
that I put it into place so it's not knocking all around but it's you kind of have you got to have two things work at
9:24
the same time you want this to work but then you don't want it to Rattle one of those is going to take over so so this
9:30
right here you know it could knock against this um but if you're going to want this
9:37
to work you're going to have to kind of compromise with that so maybe before you hit the road you can just uh you know
9:44
pull this back inside or like put a rag around it or something like that
9:51
um but I'm going to try to put this in a way to where it stays in front of these
9:56
and it'll just move but it won't actually knock against this but just some things to think about um some some
10:03
things this is a household sink you know it's not really designed for an RV um
10:08
but it's in here because it looks really nice very functional uh but yeah something to
10:13
think about it and that's something I'll talk to uh you know Brian and Robin about um I'm real big at identifying any
10:21
type of things that would annoy me in a van so kind of pointing those out so that
10:27
when you're riding you don't think something's wrong that's or something's out of place you just kind of know what
10:32
to expect managing expectations that's what I'm talking about all right so what
10:38
we're doing let's move on to what we got going on here uh we have our subpanel so this is
10:45
a 100 amp uh panel 100 amp Supply 12vt 100 amp supply
10:53
of power coming underneath the kitchen Galley and this is going to be your fuse
10:58
panel for everything in the van that is not your linkx distributor High current
11:05
items so it's not the AC unit it's not your dc2dc chargers it's not your solar
11:11
um and it's not your second alternator this is all your water pump elasto heater lights
11:20
like all that good stuff and so it's conveniently located under here and set it in the back of the van so that you
11:26
can access it um so as we're pulling all this stuff
11:31
around we're making it to our pump and what I'm using is something really
11:37
cool I can find the
11:42
uh and also if Rod if you are joining the uh chat I do have those
11:51
answers to those questions you were trying to answer in the other chat I see comments coming through right now but I
11:56
know the last video they were for some reason not coming through
12:02
all right where is this thing so this
12:11
company where did that piece go
12:36
all right give me a second just set something down before I hit record now I got to find it here it is there we
12:46
go so this is the button um you can choose what kind of color the metal is
12:53
so black finish stainless so we got a stainless of finish um I think it's technically aluminum um this is a
13:00
waterproof fully waterproof switch and I put these switches right
13:05
here in the sink and there's a special drill bit that you have to buy to
13:10
actually drill this out and get this into the sink it's really hard to do that but once this switches in here this
13:16
is your main on and off to your water pump so you click the button the water pump primes you can use your sink wash
13:23
your hands and then you immediately want to turn it off and you want to get into a habit of always turning your water
13:28
pump pump off when you're not using it don't keep it charged it's not to protect the pump so that you protect
13:36
yourself if you leave the pump on something happens in the van it gets really hot if the pump
13:45
um is on and a line breaks for whatever reason winter time summertime like
13:51
whatever happens the pump doesn't know to turn off there's nothing to tell it to turn off so it'll pump whatever water
13:58
you have in the leak in the van until it runs out of power essentially or water
14:03
so getting in the habit of having this close to the sink on and off it's just very convenient and what I'm doing today
14:10
is I'm taking this switch here wiring it to the pump and then we're doing a secondary circuit to take it to the back
14:15
of the van as a emergency disconnect so this is the
14:20
uh product that I'm using um it's ip65 rated it's waterproof uh
14:29
and it comes with a harness and then this uh part right
14:35
here so um yeah really nice and you're going to need to keep
14:43
with you one of the pigtails and the instructions sheet if you want to use
14:48
this because it's it's actually it is comp the the wiring if you've never done electrical before this
14:54
is kind of complicated understanding uh this is when you press press the button you're
15:00
wiring it to have the LED on when the button is pressed only this is the LEDs on all the time and the one on the back
15:10
is when you turn when you push the button LED goes off which um not sure
15:16
why you would want to ever wire it that way all right um where did I leave off
15:22
let's get back to work here um so we just wired our
15:30
negative so we've got power going to our blue
15:35
number and this switch is already mounted in here but you need a second one in my case so I can make sure the
15:42
pinouts correct if you don't do the pin outs correct and you turn the button on you can instantly burn the switch out so
15:47
I always order extra of these in case I goof so wire number three it's going to
15:53
be our power pickup um
15:59
it's going for our power supply wire number four that wire is going to be our power
16:06
going to the water pump
16:12
itself um now this is
16:19
where the professional comes in because uh what I'm doing
16:26
is I'm wiring this is positive going in this is the positive control wire going
16:31
out but we're using a single red and black wire the colors don't matter what
16:39
matters is the continuity like how you are wiring these two
16:44
together because you're saying Nick you got positive red coming in but then you
16:49
got blue coming out then you got blue coming out going to Black that's also
16:54
positive so uh if you've never done electrical before you know get a pad
17:00
kind of sketch some things out get an idea of how you want things to work ahead of
17:07
time you know buy extra switches because you may blow them 12vt is not dangerous
17:13
um as long as it's low current so I wouldn't I would not worry
17:18
about you know uh anything like that so let's see
17:26
we've got and if you guys have questions just uh put those in the
17:31
chat uh the struggle is real brother yeah
17:36
Brandon um not sure what part of that conversation you're talking about but uh
17:41
I I feel you if you're talking about um wiring electrical um yeah but if you guys have
17:47
any questions ask them to me this whole entire time I'm going live um I may
17:52
pause for a little bit and just kind of work um not answer questions but just
17:58
easier to get the camera rolling and uh have you guys join while I'm doing all this
18:06
stuff all right so the red
18:11
wire so the blue is the positive going to the device the device is the
18:17
pump so our black our red over here is going to go
18:24
to positive over here so we got
18:29
switch so that when we press the switch power is going we're connecting the power from the battery to the switch and
18:36
the switch contacting the pump but what we also want to do is we want to run two more things we want to run the blue LED
18:42
in the back of the van that illuminates the tank so we can see the level and then we also want to run power to the
18:49
LED light on the switch itself so that is made when this switch is
18:56
made okay so in order to do that we got a we got our wo connectors here wo connectors are awesome because you
19:02
don't have to crimp or anything um so let's just take a minute and think about how many we need
19:11
here so we need power for the pump power for the [Music]
19:17
LED um Power for the pump power for the LED and then a power going back to the back
19:23
of the van so we've got a three
19:30
no NOA we're
19:43
filming all right so we need a three
19:48
three fuo so we're going to take the wire that is our POS our power coming
19:54
into the pump from the switch we're taking our
20:01
what is the next thing we're taking um so power oh yeah we're taking
20:07
our power to the
20:13
pump and then later or right now maybe let's do it real
20:19
time we're going be taking
20:26
our we'll take a new line we're going to run this line so we're
20:32
using uh so here we've got 16 what we got
20:42
16 16 gauge UL listed Marine
20:50
cable if you can do it UL listed Marine cable
20:57
Nick highly recommend recommends you use UL listed Marine
21:21
wiring okay so we got that wire to the back nice and easy now we'll just come
21:28
up here we'll give ourselves not that much slack to work
21:37
with so this is going to do again you guys want to know what tools I use DIY
21:43
van build cheat sheet is on vuer hq.com um these two things uh crimpers for
21:53
insulated and non-insulated uh crimp Style fittings
21:59
like this so use this for this my most favorite tool in the shop
22:04
has to be this Klein tool stripper so this thing is
22:12
incredible so for example this wire that we just had you can take the whole wire
22:17
you put it in here you can strip the outer sheathing just like that and then if you just kind of by
22:25
memory feed it in here to your wo length then you got your
22:32
so you see I mean that's just crazy fast so this one what we're going to do
22:39
is uh we need to make [Music] sure this one our red is going to be
22:48
positive um okay now I got to think about this
22:54
one let's see so this is our signal
22:59
so this is our circuit made so when the circuit is made we want these wires to
23:06
connect so we got a red positive and then we've got our black
23:17
negative and so what we want to do is that switch in the back we are going to
23:24
wire it so that um when that POS wire is
23:31
made we have our blue LED in the back light
23:36
up um so we'll go back there I'll do that off camera I'm just kind of hanging out here so I don't have to move the
23:44
camera um let's see let me triple check that okay so once those two are
23:50
made that connects our pump
24:02
all right let's see where we're
24:09
at so four is
24:16
our four is our one going out three is the one positive coming in so Four's going
24:25
out two is the next so two needs to be wied
24:35
negative and red is going to four so red
24:40
is going to four so
24:49
four so red is also going to four so we need to take this right here we need to replace this
24:56
wo with a three connector that way it gives us power to
25:03
the LED and power to the
25:17
pump power to the pump I mean power to the LED power to the pump
25:25
Bingo all right and the yellow wire are not used in this
25:31
case um and then the black wire just goes to
25:36
ground so we don't have
25:44
ground let's get a ground wire so for a ground wire we're simply
25:52
going to match the link with another 16 gauge
26:04
wire here's the big Snips for the water and then we'll take
26:10
our jacket off
26:17
here uh now because this we're just using the ground uh what I will do is I'm going to
26:24
pull this back and I'm just going to to uh snip
26:30
this red wire um what you could do
26:36
is you could Strip This pull the black wire out but um I don't know I don't
26:43
really have time to do that so I just snip this off and this way with the vans that I
26:51
build I just I have a ground wire um but I'm not having to kind of
26:56
second guess myself on this
27:01
connection plus I want these it's it's also visual I want this to look good
27:07
like I want these two white wires to be zip tied together I don't want to have like all
27:12
these different color looking wires I know that sounds crazy
27:20
but so we have the power power coming into the
27:25
switch so incoming power is this side switched
27:32
power is over here so the switched power is when we depress it we're connecting the pump to the ground we're connecting
27:39
the LED to ground and then to make it connect the ground we
27:44
got to put in the ground so that's our ground and then this will just go
27:52
through here and this ground wire will go also
27:58
in our ground
28:10
spot and when you're wiring everything make sure that your supply wire so the supply wire that
28:18
we have is the water pump this Supply wire that you're we're
28:24
using we already have it ran in the floor four all the way it comes back
28:30
up and over here it's labeled water pump so this this is the line that will
28:35
actually provide Power and ground from our sub panel here so that's
28:42
kind of where all this comes
28:48
together um all right so I'm pretty confident on this so I'm going to go
28:54
ahead and take this I'm going to plug it up in
29:04
here um we going to take this water pump
29:12
wire always label all your wires okay we got a question uh aren't those switches only
29:18
rated for 3 amps or less they look like 22 mm mler
29:24
switches um so as far as their rating that's a good point that is a good
29:31
point um forgot exactly how many amps they
29:36
were uh I've used them in all my builds so I haven't had any
29:44
um power supply issues uh with the switch
29:53
itself I'll look that up give me one second
29:58
if you look them up the they're actually more chunky than than they
30:11
seem yeah I'm hop on the computer I'm get
30:26
you
30:56
for
31:26
for for
31:58
okay so answer to the switch the switch is a 10 amp rated switch the pump is a
32:06
Max of seven amps so that's our so we got the additional amps or to run the
32:15
LEDs but obviously they use hardly anything um but yeah the switch this
32:22
switch was rated for 10 amps and our pump us Max of seven
32:31
amps um okay what else we got this switch good we got our wire here so
32:43
let's see if we can
32:49
get pull some more cable off here but because we're doing that we
32:54
need to re label
33:16
this and the pump manufacturer recommends 16
33:21
gauge so I'm running 14 gauge
33:29
uh I oversize it when I do my run to the
33:35
pump um and then for this additional wire like to the switch in the back and the LED into the switch up here I'm
33:41
using 16
33:48
gauge okay so here's our terminals we're going to go ahead and
33:55
crimp something on here so we can get some power to test this thing out again
34:00
this is where these come into handy because we cut the wire but we also can crimp insul
34:07
uh uh the insulated crimp which insulated just
34:14
means it's got plastic around it
34:44
whether they using red or yellow wire black or white wire just always do a mental note
34:51
of what you have identified as the ground wire max van are notor
34:58
for the positive being the black wire I have no clue why they do that but don't
35:05
wire van don't wire your van like the max van have your black
35:11
wires your ground and your white wire as you're hot
35:17
um that is my recommendation all right so let me get
35:23
in here and lre this up
35:34
and all the wires in here are all hot I do not have it disconnected in the back
35:40
so keep that in mind as you're working on your van I don't have it the fuse for the
35:48
circuit in but um the wires are hot so
36:04
oh
36:36
okay so what's fun in the back of the van is that we're going to do the same
36:42
switch um but for the switch in the back of the van we're going
36:48
to to get it to work the way I want is uh the switch will always be
36:54
depressed in the back this will be the master so when this one provides power
37:01
this one will illuminate so when this power turns on it's turning it's making
37:06
the connection to run the pump and it's making the connection to send power via this secondary line that we're
37:13
running all the way to the back of the van so back here in the
37:24
back right beside our tank fill right here we have that
37:31
switch so the reason I do this is imagine you're in the van and you got
37:36
this door shut and you're spraying something down in the back of the van and uh I don't know you goof you you
37:43
slam the door you do something where you break the hose and you can't open this door fast enough to turn the water off
37:49
and it's like spraying everywhere right here in the back of the B you can just press this button and it actually
37:55
disconnects the circuit for the water pump um um you can use it as like on and off
38:03
but this one's always going to be on I rather I tell my customers use this as
38:08
like a back like an emergency so if you need to turn it off always use this one as primary on and off this one is just
38:17
in case you need to turn off quickly but if you turn this switch off this one
38:22
won't won't work anymore until you turn this one back on
38:28
um but what this one's going to do we're going to wire it the same way instead of this one uh powering a water pump this is
38:36
going to power a rear LED light to illuminate the tank so that's how we're
38:41
going to to wire wire this
39:15
all right we have any more uh oh hey Rod
39:23
um let's see what R let's see what other question what were the questions were you having day to answer real
39:52
quick get on here so we just wait like about
40:09
okay Rod so you were asking you had a question the other day you were asking about the way that I built that box
40:16
would you build cabinets the same way and my answer would be no I would definitely use Craig screws to make
40:21
those joints um what I didn't show you off camera was I reinforced the Box uh
40:27
on the the inside um the reason I didn't have enough room to build the Box the way I
40:33
wanted to because of just the the space so what I did instead is I built the Box
40:38
you know wood glue with the uh the pin nails and all the joints so that was
40:43
solidly put together and then what I did is I took angle brackets and I reinforced the inside so that kind of
40:49
takes the place of the Craig screw construction that I would have done um and then I took
40:57
2inch aluminum channel and I lined the bottom of the drawer with 2inch aluminum
41:03
channel and then I took the bolts and bolted them into the aluminum channel that was on the bottom side of the
41:09
drawer and so that just gave me you know all the stability um when you pull the
41:16
drawer out the the slack in the drawer slides which they're all a drawer is
41:22
always going to have a little bit of that slack um that the the drawer does kind of like
41:28
uh you know slightly move just a little bit but it does lock into place and it is very safe and you can I mean I jumped
41:36
up and down on it uh you know moved it around it's solid as rock it does have a
41:42
little bit of give and that's just the ball bearing slides in it uh but as far as it locking into place and being
41:48
supportive it does the job and because
41:53
um we didn't do the Craig screw on the inside the draw is a little bit more neater uh when you do the Craig screws
42:00
in half inch wood it cuts all these notches everywhere and it just looks like kind of looks like a hack job so
42:08
visually I didn't want to do that to this drawer so I use the aluminum to reinforce it um as far as the drawer
42:15
slides go um see what were you asking on that
42:29
oh yeah so what's going in the drawer uh so the drawer hold I was clear coating the
42:41
drawer so the whole point of the drawer is to this is the lid of the drawer see so the whole point of the
42:48
drawer is to be a step a step to get into the bed you just leave it out
42:53
during night time get in and out of the bed if you need to use the bathroom so the main reason is for a
42:59
step and then uh I've got this taped off I'm spraying some polyurethane on it but
43:05
this hole is so you can pull this open and then you have a 8x14 8 in high 14x
43:11
14 drawer that you can just store more stuff in the van give me more
43:18
storage um let's see here uh should replace my switches and
43:26
get rid of some some relays um it's up to you if you uh so
43:33
this is for um Hammer's question
43:40
uh I try to find heavy duty switches instead of relays just for the
43:46
Simplicity of putting the circuit together because relays um I mean I did car automotive
43:53
customization pretty much ever since I got my first car and I use relays all the time I use them for the fog lights I
43:59
use them for all kinds of circuits in a in a car so they're simple they're easy to use
44:07
but they can kind of get complicated in a van because you you might be doing it for every for everything
44:13
um to me it's easier to oversize the wiring going wherever you need to in the
44:18
van because you never know down the road what you're going to add later and if you wire something to the bare minimum
44:25
of whatever switch you're using you can't repurpose that and add an additional circuit to it so that's why I
44:31
do this 100 amp service here so I don't ever have to worry about if uh Brian and Robin would add
44:39
something like for example uh right here this wire this is
44:45
a free wire if if Brian wants to or Brian Rob if they wanted to wire
44:50
something in the back of their van behind the water tank there's this wire and this wire goes here so I'm going to
44:56
hide hide this wire right here behind the microwave and then in the future if they need to add another 12vt circuit in
45:02
the back they have they already have wire ran so that's an extra circuit
45:07
um yeah so that is a yeah so overdo this overdo this and just go up one gauge of
45:15
wire if you're 16 go to 14 if you're 12 go to 10 you know
45:22
um just to get that headro because cost wise it's not going to it's not going to
45:27
be that crazy of a difference cost
45:44
wise okay what else do I want to show you guys really quick let's see that might be it
