DIY Floor Patterns - Ford Transit (AVC RIG Paper Pattern Cut Outs)

thank you hey guys welcome back to the live stream today we're going to be talking about uh

our floor install that we've been doing on the Ford Transit right behind me and uh the next three days we're going to be

doing a couple live streams today we're doing the floor install so it's not the

complete install uh but I want to show you the AVC rig template that you can purchase on their website there's no

affiliation in this video this is just good helpful tips for you guys doing your DIY van build

and uh something that I think would help you guys out so the floor install kind of like a part one

we'll talk about today in this live stream the next one we're going to do the seat install so we get a Friedman

flip and fold seat that we put in the van we've already drilled the holes and stuff like that so we'll go over that

tomorrow and then Friday we're going to talk about the cro t-vent window install

so that window is the one right behind me so it's the driver's side

and uh that was an interesting install um so definitely a couple things that I

want to talk to you guys about uh some tweaks that I had to do to it because if

you see behind me it is within the adventure wagon system and I had to purchase a separate panel

uh to trim out this window however it didn't go the way that I

planned it to go so you guys get to see how I fix that

um I'll give you a teaser before we actually do it the way I fixed it was I made three templates so a template of

the outside of the plastic bump out that you can purchase from them

um and then I templated that around the window uh I templated the template if that

makes any sense so that I could get the final uh piece

so it looks like this

so I made this piece but it took me a long process to get it made but this

process uh since I went through the pain of figuring out how to do it it'll be really easy for you guys to uh to pick

up on this you can use this for making any type of uh window to cover the stuff you don't

want to see in the window so for example the window behind me this trim where the

bolts and stuff that hold the serial window in that transition from there to this plastic bump out

we want to cover that um so I'll spend about five seconds showing you what I'm talking about

so I'm gonna go put this up to the window we'll get back to floor install in just

a second okay so what I'm going to do is I'm just

going to hold this template up to the window and show you how this is going to cover it and then when I finally get

this done and upholstered that'll be a another live stream that we we go over this

so just a little quick teaser on how you can cover up that transition Gap and uh

use it to make custom bump outs all right so back to our

scheduled programming for the floor install

all right let's check out let me pull this up I'm gonna go through the pictures first

and then I have a couple of GoPro videos of me actually working with a template

and I'm just going to talk over them seems to be the the easiest way to get you guys this video without doing a full

video edit hence the live stream um let's see here

all right so we go over the computer if you guys can check this out we have

our uh AVC rig template so I'm going to zoom

in essentially this is a a big if you guys have ever worked with blueprints or

engineering drawings uh a printer called a plotter is what actually prints something this big

and what they've done is they've pretty much taken the plot that they've done to CNC cut these uh

floor panels and put it on a piece of paper and just printed it out and put it in the package

that you can buy so it's really really simple so what are we talking about what the

heck is this template let's go to uh let's see here

let me find what I want to talk about

all right so Adventure vehicle Concepts is a company we're going to head on over to their website

again no affiliation uh I just like the some of the products that they make

you may have seen uh so they do roof racks uh they do

flooring systems stuff like that if we go to their store go to Van type

and we have our high roof 148 so they're typically a Transit based uh

business but the accessories that they have

is this fluorine system so I found this about a year and a half ago

and this is a insulated pre-cut out flooring system it's pretty rare to find

these um now there's a caveat to this I will explain uh about this floor stuff that I

like and don't like because uh I have installed this floor

you might have seen that in a past video so you get a threshold kit for the door

and some trim pieces for the front and the back it looks really nice when it's installed

if you do have the Ford factory seats uh in the rear so

like a crew van for example they have the cutouts for the seat

retainers pre-done so you can select if you want them or not but essentially if you look at this

floor what they've done is they've taken insulated home sheathing system so the Zip system

so if you guys are any Builders out there contractors you'll be familiar with the Zip system

just exterior sheathing so uh for the exterior of a house

and they actually make one that has an integrated uh insulated

um I don't want to say core uh let's see here I'm gonna get I'm

gonna get a sample that I have in the shop that'll be easier

hmm okay there we go

all right guys so this piece that I'm holding my hand right here this let's see what

there we go so this is the rear piece of the top off a Thomas's van we didn't use this

because he has a uh aluminum ramp so I had to cut it off even to have enough room for the ramp

transition to be comfortable but essentially this is a zip system so the same thing that you're seeing

um on the screen here same thing this is the rear rear piece

all right and the back of it is what they're not

showing so right here this is the back so the back this is uh the foam you see how there's

uh it's about one inch of foam right here and then a half inch of the sheathing

and what they do is they CNC the wood and then they go in and they see and see

these reliefs right here for the uh the corrugations and the floor floor of the

transit um what I like about this floor is if you're a diyer you don't want to mess

with uh you know mapping out taping everything what you

can do is just buy the floor system and just put it in but when you put this floor system in uh

the way to actually adhere to the floor um is interesting I'm not going to go

through that but uh I've noticed that these right here if

they could they could if they could dial them in a little bit better as far as uh how they touch the floor because they're

a little high I would like them a little bit lower so they actually touch the corrugations

um however that might be the way they just have to do it in the shop but other than that uh you can go online and they'll explain

to you the uh the insulation installation process but

anyway it has a foam on the back CNC cut out Zip system all right

okay let's get back over here we have the website so you guys got an idea of

how this system is actually put together

um different pieces okay so you guys got an understanding of the floor so let's

go back to the photos that I have

okay so this is where we left off and this is the template process

so if you don't want to buy this system

so the flooring system itself thank you then what you can

do because the floor system it is pretty expensive 2500 as of filming this they have a they have

a secondary product so you can go in here to High roof 148

scroll down and the problem that I was solving with

purchasing this uh pattern kit is I'm going to be cutting a lot of holes

in the flooring system behind me so I have this flip and fold seat that's going to

be in the back that I'll talk about in another live stream I have an in-floor shower pan that goes in and then I'm

possibly going to cut out and Notch out the uh section about a half an inch of

plywood for the 40 gallon water system so I'm removing a lot of wood from the

floor and uh cutting up that brand new floor system

doesn't really make sense I've already got the supplies in the shop to build the floor obviously since

it's already in and so this templating kit is what you can buy and essentially it's just

you know big engineering paper that's been printed on with a plotter and it's

going to allow you to cut out your own pieces

and for me as a builder I can reuse these pieces for Future Ford transits

and I don't have to keep making templates in the shop to uh you know reuse and reuse it's just paper

if it does get damaged I can buy another kit so um

so if you notice it says 600 so make sure you go here and select your

appropriate uh you know application so for example High

roof 148 is what we were using it for it defaults to a wall kit so the wall kit includes these aluminum pieces so

what we want to do is uh actually we want to select the right one

let me back up there we go they've got the same picture for both

of these that's confusing um okay floors not walls floors there we go

okay now we're talking so they have the floor size so make sure

you choose the right floor size 148 is the van that I have 148 extended is

different it's going to have the uh extended section so

the van that's longer behind the wheelbase so 148 is what I purchased it was 225

and what you're going to get is uh the crew seat track location preferred L

track location spare tire access location and then you're gonna get three pieces

of paper the 148 extension is extended it's gonna be four pieces

so this is the kit and we are going to show you what I did with it

so the first thing that I did is

uh let's get the right video here

okay all right so this is the piece of paper

um what you didn't see in this video is I went ahead and took a razor and cut it out so these templates are not

pre-cut out you do have to cut and Trace all the lines out um but that's okay that makes sense

then as you go through here you're going to see that you want to go ahead and

line it up to where you make the least amount to least amount of cuts

so I'm going to fast forward let's see fast forward

all right so that was the end of that explanation let's see

okay so the first step was to go ahead and roll it out

now notice I have two of the long sides so this is going to change with

each piece that you're cutting so if you cut the front section you're going to have two nice strong edges the

middle section you might only have one reference Edge and then the final piece you might have another reference as what

I'm talking about is a place where you can cheat and just move the paper template right to the line of the wood

and not make a cut depending if you reply with it you're getting is nice and true

now you will have to get three sheets of four by plywood for this application

uh there's obviously not enough wood to make multiple cuts on one piece so you

are going to have to sacrifice about a third of the plywood and just use it for something else

but once you get everything taped down and Mark your line out my recommendation

would be to get a track saw to cut the straight lines and then cut as many

straight lines with the track saw as you can limit yourself to the jigsaw if possible

if you don't have a track saw you can use a skill saw and then what I've done is I'm using a

multi-tool to actually cut out these notches instead of a jigsaw uh but later I think

I actually changed to a jigsaw yep I do

and yep just cut it out and that's it I mean it's that easy to get a panel ready

to go another recommendation I have with uh

with DIY it may be challenging to get good Lumber so uh sometimes I buy lumber depending

on how much I need to build or cut out and I buy it ahead of time and I've actually changed my mind on that because

by the time you get it from Lowe's or Home Depot bring it back to the house if the conditions change so quickly so pick

a day that you're going to actually cut the wood out and then have that day be the day that you buy the wood because I

had some problems with a couple pieces warping uh just because they've been

sitting in my shop for a couple weeks um so what what for what it's worth uh might be a little Pro tip for you

so next up let's go to um let's see here

so the next thing you want to do is when you cut out your template uh this is

another way you can kind of cheat lay your insulation your foam insulation

underneath it and put the piece of wood on there go ahead and wait it down

um I actually use these Ford um brake disc and

uh these rotors and they actually holds everything down really nice and then I just go ahead with a multi-tool and I go ahead and just cut the foam it's the

easiest way to do it you don't have to draw a trace just really quick and then once you cut that all out

now you have your floor four floor panel and your uh your top piece

let's see in the next process that we're going to do

see here

so I went ahead and laid in the front piece the middle piece and then let's see do I

go ahead hey here we go if you have a mid-roof so just a pro tip

if you have a mid roof this is going to be more challenging uh it was challenging at Thomas's van because it was a mid-roof and

the way that you have to move and tilt the pieces into place is kind of challenging because

the height it's kind of messing with you if you have a high roof it's much easier the first panel goes in the second panel is

a little weird that middle panel but notice the back here

you will have to make some additional trim trimming uh additional cuts on this

because depending on like where the glue uh from Ford is around the wheel wells

and the sides or like a plastic body fitting remove all that sounds kind

of obvious but uh the good thing is the way that they measured ABC rig measured this is it it's extremely precise to the

point where it actually might be too tight in some location so you need to go ahead and find out where it's tight trim

it off and you can do that with a foam piece it's easier to modify the foam piece and then

um you know translate that to the piece of wood so that's pretty much what I did

um let's see here there we go when you get your all your pieces cut

you want to make sure that when you're care you really need somebody to help you with this but I was

just by myself um because you don't want to really Dent up the foam

uh but once you get it in there it should just lay right in and then you can go ahead and get

everything nice and put together

and then the back side uh what I would do

all right let me turn this down

see was that audio on the whole time no

uh is go ahead and put a piece of tape on each of the seams and I don't

actually so the floor is it's a half inch plywood and then one inch foam and this is the

formula formula uh 150 it's a R5 insulation it's the pink stuff

uh it's from Home Depot I don't actually like what Lowe's uses

uh the plywood that I used this is a sanded plot let's see what's the name of

that

so the ply it's a revolution ply

and it's at Lowe's they do have some at Home Depot it's the

sand it's like s-a-n-d-e Supply here I'll look it up real quick

um let's see here

it is half inch though sanded ply

all right so I'm gonna leave it on the screen here Nova is wanting a ball I need to go get

it for there you go so take a look at that that's what I

yeah I'll put this in the comments so that we it's half inch

uh four by eight

and it's the

and the sanded plywood is going to vary between you know like different manufacturers

um like Lowe's has their own brand of sanded plywood Home Depot has their own banana sanded plywood

um I would not get to been out of scrape about not getting Baltic Birch for your build because

you know there's different places around the U.S uh when I initially started I tried to go ahead and purchase you know

Balto Birch and have all this shipped and it's just shipping cost just not it doesn't make sense

just just go to your local just go to your local uh Lowe's

um the next thing let's go into right

this is the troublemaker

um so I'm going to show you a picture of what it looks like currently

let's see here

so you can see this uh it's it's extremely precise even these edges

right here the way it cuts in very precise um even around the wheel wells they just

do a really good job with the the measures the measurements they took to get this floor going

and again if you want to um go to the website and actually

get the main flooring system you can

because it does include this box right here if you get the

this little threshold piece and the trim kit this thing's awesome now I was able to use uh the one that we

had on Thomas's band he had he didn't need it because what we did is for his uh wheelchair access we had to

extend the floor out and so I couldn't use this and so we just um

I got this from him and I'm using it in the van behind me but they do sell

this floor step the floor step and trim kit separately

um it's expensive but I have looked online

all over the place to try to find a floor trim kit that is made as good as

this one and this one is it's just done extremely well there's other ones that are from

you know companies that you know they do like HVAC Vans uh

let's see what else you know electrical electrician Vans painters Vans and they're just they're not of the quality

they're really flimsy this is extremely strong uh it covers everything nice and clean

uh and the powder coat is is really it's done really well on there because uh

yeah I haven't actually scratched it up just walking in and out of the van a bunch of times

but yeah the trim step you can get separately so you can get that and then you can get

the drawing um

it does kind of push you to you know it's about a thousand something for that so let's see what that is that is

let's see step and trim so

right rear that's 875

that's 1100 for the paper cut out in the step so you get 1100 versus 2500 so some

people might just go ahead and opt in to get the uh floor system because you're already kind

of halfway there but for me I'm cutting so many holes into this piece it doesn't make sense for me to buy this kit

um let's go back to some questions do you know if that trim kit will work with the AMF smart floor

I don't know that I don't know the thickness of the AMF smart floor

what I can tell you is let's go to the drawing pad real quick

so what I'm going to do is I'm going to draw really quick the um

I'm going to show you how the floor does the floor transition works and then you can kind of gauge if that's going to

work uh the AMF floor smart floor do you know if it lays on top of the van

corrugations or is it actually notched out so it sits flush with them so lower

um let me know if you know that while I'm getting this little drawing board up

okay all right so let's see if you guys can see me here let me make my picture

bigger all right check this out

so you look at my screen I'm gonna draw this is the bottom

of the Ford Transit floor and then we've got these uh corrugations

that I keep talking about so

the trim kit uh as I have it right now in the van

is allowing me to uh can I zoom in uh zoom in

see here so this distance here I have one inch of foam

so this is the foam and then I have a half inch

and this is uh the wood okay so that

this and this is obviously way overdone and it's just to

show you the difference here but say this is your wood and then

this is your insulation

right there so you got an inch and a half total and then the trim piece on the outside

I'm gonna make that red so the trim piece you buy

comes over like this

and then the step itself comes down like that

okay so what you have here is you've got

um you guys can see my cursor if you do one inch of insulation on top

of the corrugations and you do a half inch plywood this Kit's going to be nice and flush it's

going to look like you did it like super pro looks nice

um so hopefully that answers your question so you said

thank you uh waiting for delivery of the floor not

sure about install yet so Rip Torn did you did you purchase the

ABC rig floor did you uh oh wait no you bought the AMF that's right AMF I got

you yeah I get the AMF Lauren and then

measure measure this distance right here

um this inch and a half

above the corrugation so Above This corrugation

if you have an inch and a half then this kit this kit will work [Music]

the stuff that I'm gonna put on top of it so this flooring system just like Thomas's van is going to get a lawn seal

floor and it's going to be put on with the lawn cell epoxy and um so we'll do that in a future live

I've organized it uh by category so you can go through and

um go through each one of these so we have a cargo storage I've got electrical

fasteners yeah so cargo storage that's going to be

L track components maybe like this right here you have

um little Nets that you can use for holding you know cell phones stuff like

that in your van the electrical is going to be really helpful because it's pretty much all the fuses like the blue sea

system stuff um AGM fuses uh Mega fuses Bluetooth stuff

and if we move on down we got into Fasteners so if you're doing an 80 20 build specifically this is going to help

you with a lot of the uh lock nuts or the lock washers uh the size of nuts

that I used in the 80 20 because you can really go down a rabbit hole with all of the different types of of

parts and if you just if I had one thing that I could go to and just see what I

was using a list like this it would definitely helped me out on future future builds

but um yeah go through this list we've got Hardware so for example

there is the soft close hinges that I've used in my personal van

we've got these pole latches so these Marine pool latches that you guys have seen on some stuff they're on the list

HVAC components you know if you guys are on a budget and you want to see what

diesel heater I actually used in my personal van this is the exact one that I used

I needed some additional air vents

for the heater then for insulation you know we've got

uh dynaliner that's a new product that we used on Thomas's van it's kind of like a

hybrid insulation sound deadening let's see here we got you know all the

ARB components that we put on Thomas's van the compressor for roofing we've got

the uh scan strut seals that I use to seal up the roof

uh security we put in some security components for Thomas's van

and then solar one of the most important things on this list are tools you know tools are

something that can really save you time in your DIY fan build

and these are pretty much a list of the core tools that I use pretty much on every build so crimping tools pneumatic

uh rivnut adapters and then finally we get to the water

system any type of fittings the sinks uh tank heaters stuff like that so if

you've had a hard time finding Vamp parts or you're just not sure if

all right let me get back to the questions here

um so Nick asked are you planning to do any waterproofing or sealer to the wood and

what is your Final Flooring going to be so

there's a couple of things that you guys can do the as far as the floor goes

um what I did in my previous van is I just used a white latex-based paint and

painted the wood just in case that there's any moisture over time that gets underneath the wood and it's not allowed

to evaporate um it gives a wood you know a second

chance to actually dry out now remember so when I do this

floor you'll see how we do the corrugations so there is going to be

airflow underneath the floor uh it's gonna be very little but that's going to allow it to

breathe a little bit so we'll do some white latex paint on that and then when we're finished

uh we'll actually put the lawn sill epoxy

um that is a system that is made for the lonsil flooring so if you don't know

what that is or I'm gonna go through that real quick for the end of the Stream and then once that floor is down uh

that's pretty much it and so I do have a here let me I'm going to put in a link

to uh on a second

um all right put a link to the website

where you guys can actually download the list and then while you're clicking on that

to uh download that list to help you guys out I'm gonna look at lawn sale really quick

and so you want to do lawn still Marine flooring

if you guys don't know what this is uh this is the flooring that they use for boating uh the Boating world uh you know

a couple YouTubers have covered this as far as you know installing their Vans this

black long coin this is essentially stuff that you see on airplanes or buses

and you see it on a lot of Adventure Vans it's extremely durable it's also used because uh you know it

doesn't really react to the environment so humidity heat it's very resilient that's why you see it in a lot of Vans

and the cool part is if you do want some type of a design aesthetic to your van they have different colors textures

patterns we actually put this lawn Marine Wood uh into Thomas's van

and you guys can see right here looks pretty cool so it really uh can fit any

you know design palette as far as uh putting in your van

now I get this uh let's see here

Where is the so I'm gonna go to perfect fit

um now I'm not affiliated with this company again this is just helpful stuff for you

guys this is where I actually purchase it from and when you go to their lawn seal

flooring you'll see you have the flooring and then at the bottom you're going to have how you're going to

install it so there's a two part epoxy to install the floor

uh so you're going to use this and then you're going to use this specific trowel because if you guys have

ever done any type of tiling you know that the uh the trout level so where you scrape it

is extremely important depending on like you say you're putting tile in you needed a certain Groove to like smush

down the thinset the same thing applies to the adhesive I

mean to the epoxy now obviously epoxy is going to be very you know low profile

like maybe like a millimeter or two but you need to just trowel to make sure it has notches in it like little micro

notches and it's going to keep everything nice and even um all right let me let her out

yeah so if you go to here and you purchase these products together um you can get it all from One Stop One

Stop Shop and install it and let me I'm going to put the uh

let me put the video this video is going to show

exactly what I did uh see where is that video

all right if you guys are new to the channel we have a YouTube channel as you guys

can tell by watching the Stream and on here we're trying to find the

video I do about the flooring

okay I think I covered it let's see let's see if we did it on a live stream

we've done a bunch of these there it is

all right so we've got the uh lawn seal flooring video let's go ahead

and share this all right and then I'm gonna get back to the

questions here really quick

let's see here we've got

to have an opinion on the uh option on marine plywood versus zip

sheathing yeah um let's see here

so the marine plywood is it's to me it's more it's rigid it's more rigid

and the zip zip sheathing tends to be kind of floppy that's the best because uh you got

um oriented strand board OSB

let's see zip

yeah so zip the Zip system is uh oriented strand board

so if you guys don't know what oriented strand board is that is this

so you can kind of see over here it's basically like a bunch of chips of

wood there's like you know glued and pressurized together um

so I'll give you a little bit explanation if you guys aren't from the construction industry sheathing is what is put on a house

and it what it does is it uh not only is it protecting obviously the outside and

you put your exterior you know brick or whatever you want to do but it's uh adding to the

shear strength of the home so it's actually structurally keeping the home you know from you know like swaying side

to side uh generally I'm not saying that's exactly what it

does but it's not you know made to be fluorine so

what they've done is they've taken the Zip system and used it for a flooring system

uh because it's kind of integrated with the foam it's a pretty good idea but I think what

you're trying to get at is the surface right here

um this surface of the OSB is coated with this green

coating that makes it waterproof in quotes

and I was worried that when I did Thomas's flooring that the epoxy was not going to adhere to this waterproofing

like membrane or coating they put on it's very it's a I mean this coating must be thinner than like a human hair

you can scratch it off with your fingernail and I was worried that it wouldn't be a

good it wouldn't adhere to the floor um but hey after everything was done

everything it worked really well I mean it holds really well so other than the

floor um not being as like hard so this floor

the way the Plies line up is it's extremely rigid and I like that so I

kind of like doing this other over the zip I I honestly I don't see a advantage

to the zip I would rather use half inch uh

plywood and then you know paint it

you know to get it to make it uh less susceptible to water damage that would

that would be my my recommendation um how many linear feet of lawn still do

you order to finish out the floor uh 12 feet

yeah so Ford Transit 148 is 11 it's like 11 and a half feet but order 12.

order 12 feet um see what else

uh it's gonna come in a standard I believe a six foot width

so let's see here so say we went to some floor

yep so if you guys look here we've got uh six feet is the roll width

um and then I ordered 12 12 feet

so that link that I showed you guys about the live stream to how to install the floor watch that whole thing if you

all right let's get back to the lawn sale thing so I'm just gonna mute this

video and play it for a second and I'm just going to quickly go over this install just like take a minute to

talk about it since I think a couple people in this stream are interested in the floor

okay so this uh this is a live stream that we did a couple months ago

and this is what it ended up looking like um after it was finished

now the the flooring itself comes in different thicknesses so the black coin

floor is a little bit thinner this uh it's called this is like a fake teak

wood look and um

let's see here yeah if you just watch the video you guys can take your time check it out

now I do have a a book that I have in the shop and it's the physical samples

um if you really want to you can call them up and get a sample book sent to you um

and they'll go through and I mean there's there's hunt there's not hundreds but there's a bunch of

different options um let's see here so this video just

walks through putting the whole entire flooring system in the most challenging part of this floor

install is the epoxy process if you guys have ever worked with epoxy there's something called pot life and that is

its curing time this one has a uh one hour

I'm sorry it has a 30 minute pot life which is not too long

so what that means is you need to go ahead and get uh take the product

let me just pause this real quick

you take the product I'm thinking I bought the um

I think it was the one gallon uh I think the one gallon option anyway you

take the product you have 15 minutes for it to uh to mix it and let it kind of

begin the curing process then after 15 minutes you got to get to work so you

really need to make sure that you have everything laid out my

suggestion really quick is to pre-cut the floor out go ahead and lay it in the van

and find out what edges you need to cut cut around the wheel wells cut around anything that you have as uh that's in

your way do a dry fit then take find the middle

of it put a screw in the top put a screw in the bottom fold it over and then get your Center

Line apply the epoxy to the left and then what you're going to do after that

is you're going to go ahead and

you're going to roll it on top and try to do it in a way that you're not going to make any bubbles if possible

and then once you roll it over go ahead and then you just work on the other side

that's pretty much it but like you guys said you guys can watch the video check it out

uh follow the floor

uh so what I did is as the adhesive

started to get the epoxy got tackier uh which is it doesn't take too long I kind

of went in and started to push down my edges and then cut them

um but let's see here when you put this down if it's curled up

on the side uh that's okay typically you're going to cover that with something

so just try to get it down as close as you can because the last step before you

actually go to cut these edges you're going to want to take a uh a roller

um and you're going to want to a weighted roller and you're going to want to roll this in immediately after

you get this laid down and then in the instructions it's going to give you a certain amount of waiting

period before you re-roll it and you want to roll it in multiple directions so up and down and left and right

then when you're finished with that go in um and then cut those edges so these

little trim Edge pieces the stuff that's rolled up uh so that was pretty much my thing

but again if you have any particular questions um just put those in the comments we will

oh Peter yes two Tech two floors I love them uh I have not installed it yet but

lets me back up here two Tech Two this is kind of all the rage right now

um so I'm 99 sure I'm about to order this next week and you guys can see that my van

business

uh we got this you know kind of like orange red logo since this is a spec build behind me I

really want to go with the two Tech Two in this uh this color

so um so Peter is as far as I've heard as

much as I've heard about this flooring system um I've heard really good things about it so

there was a video there's a van that I saw at the Florida van life Gathering

um from Rover Vans and they had the blue in there and I really liked it um

because essentially what you're putting down is you're putting down this floor that is like the Revel snap-in flooring

but you're kind of doing it permanently um

but yeah they have a couple of these different things here

and to my knowledge this pretty much installs like the uh

uh what I'm saying the lawn seal all right here's the kicker

let's go to 12 let's go to 12 linear feet

all right let's add that to cart there you go so that's the only kicker right there

it's uh it's pretty pretty pricey but I mean it looks cool

um watch your roof fan install love that you had an alternate okay here we go

watched your roof fan install love that you had an alternate alternative to lap

sealant not a fan either can you be more specific on the screws you substituted yes

uh let's see here so there Phillips head stainless steel

screws with a Nylock nut so if we go to Lowe's

and we're gonna do

we're gonna go stainless steel screws and we want to find the ones that

I think they're called let's see

button head let's see here

okay they're not self-tapping and you guys may Wonder or you're saying

well that sounds crazy Nick I'll explain why all right so this is the screw I used it's a Hillman

uh Phillips it's a machine screw

don't quote me on this 632 I think that's what it is um

so you're wondering why I use a machine screw okay so I drill through the roof so go

through the fan two through the roof and make a clean hole and then what I do is I put a little adhesive on the bottom of

the screw and I actually Bolt the vent fan to the van so I'm not just sheet metal

screwing it in it's actually bolted in and then I use uh the Nylock

nuts right here to fasten it down

and it's just more like a safety thing for me the

uh window weld that you're going to use around the vent fan is going to sell out any water

whatsoever um but if you're going down the highway 75

80 miles an hour with a roof fan on top of your van

um you know I like to to be bolted down this is just my personal uh way of doing it

I did not watch anybody do this machine screw Bolton method if

it's just something that I thought was the best way but the better way to do it does take a little bit longer but I like

it I'm not going to mention other uh

uh companies that all they use is window weld with no screws uh I would not

advise doing that um and the other thing with sheet metal screws is if you accidentally over

tighten it you can't kind of go back you've already messed up the hole enough to where

you're not going to get a grip and basically you just have a screw that's glued in the roof it's not doing any type of help with your fan it's not

actually holding it so that's my opinion on

the screws um let's see here

yeah so I use the I use the machine screws and I use the

Nylock nuts and then I use that Flex Seal that's

another option but to be honest I know in that video I used flexo as the option

so what I have done is I have gone back to black

dicor lap sealant I've just

my technique in applying it has been a little bit more patient so it's not running all over the place I kind of

know where to expect for it to go but I kind of got over it because I want

you want you really just want to focus on the seal um rather than Aesthetics I love Aesthetics

but at the end of the day not having water come in is is pretty good

but hey it's been three plus years on my personal van and the Flex Seal is doing just fine so

and you can recode it but I mean you know who kind of wants to go back up on the roof

you will have to uh you know five ten years you're gonna

have to double check that it's not cracked up there regardless of what you use

Flex Seal Jamie loves flexo

uh yeah love these questions guys this is this is excellent um

whole point of this channel is I just want to share everything that's in my head get it out of my head into a video

so they can actually help you guys um with my experience you know what I've what I've gone through so that you guys

don't have to repeat my mistakes number one number two uh help you guys get ahead a little bit

more on your DIY um with you know putting together cheat sheets like this so that you do you just

have something in your back pocket to reference um it's hard to find one place you can go to to kind of reference materials

instead of just scouring YouTube so I read this before I did the video and got really excited so Robert said uh

I'm so glad I found this channel your videos and uh trainer awesome I started to binge watch and rewatch them all you

made me feel like I can DIY a van trying to get ready for a van build this summer

that I might rent and use or sell if that works then do it again I'm learning

so much thanks if I may though give you a word of advice not sure if you realize

you probably do the Olaf olfa knives so that's the razor blades I use

they have a built-in breaker built in so I did not know that Robert uh I will

check those after this he said if you remove the small back CL uh cap it has a slit in it

and you can insert the blade Snap It Off I would hate to see you you cut yourself yes very very good

um so no Robert thank you so much for those

kind words it's seriously anything that you guys uh have questions about put those in the videos

because what I do is I like to look through the comments and if there's some type of suggestion

then I like to put that in a video for the future but I love this comment because it just it shows uh that's the

do I make the wall panels I did I made all the wall panels for Thomas's van

however the system behind me is probably what you're talking about

uh they were referencing the Ford Transit window install okay so

I use a company called Adventure wagon uh no affiliation

I just think that their stuff is very safe

all right so this is Adventure wagon I've talked about this in other videos they make they create Interior Systems

so these are uh l-track based full van

interior systems they give you all the panels they're upholstered give you everything to actually put uh

your van together the bass starts out with this little skeleton this little orange metal thing

that rivets directly into your van uh creates a very very strong connection

to the van the panels are then bolted into it and then any uh the l-strike

they use not only holds the panels in but it gives you the ability to actually put in overhead bags bed systems

um I mean you name it if it's l-track ready you can use this system

um it's quite expensive um but depending on saving time getting a bill done versus

Aesthetics I mean there is nothing that knocks out both of those requirements

you want something that looks super professional and you can put in in like three days

this is this is an amazing product there's really nothing like it on the market

so um yeah Adventure wagon all right what else we got here

uh that Titan vid van bed might support 50 pounds on a good day

probably probably I I may agree with that

um okay inko wants to know where can I order the

Ford Raptor style Grille eBay England does not deliver to Germany

um so if you go

the delivery problem I'm not sure how to solve that

commented on a great job of showing and interviewing Builders thanks getting ready to sell my truck and truck camper

combination and get a custom van that's awesome JD yeah I thought uh showcasing and interviewing the builders

for these um uh van shows is very important because

um there's just not a lot of I don't I don't see a lot of people asking uh

the types of questions about um you know what what kind of what are

they showcasing in their build what kind of options are people looking for that sort of thing so I really try to if it's

a question that I have I'm basically asking it so nothing is like pre-done or scripted it's

I'm just asking the builders questions that I want to know and then I just film it and then you

guys are there to kind of watch it um

okay so go and do I answered this one okay so that's probably all the new ones

I'll just answer this last one again from go and do so we answered this on the stream when uh they were on it

uh just watch your video on cutting the windows installing CR Lawrence TV windows on the passenger sliding door

and also behind the driver's door my jigsaw worked perfectly for the small back window uh in your example in this video I am

having a harder time with my jigsaw for the larger Windows weird question I know but what jigsaw blade you use enjoy the

content so I use the uh it's called very thin

metal and it's Bosch

so it's called Uh right here it is a

uh

where is it jigsaw blades it's the Bosch jigsaw blades they're

t-shank and they are Bosch

and it's the very thin metal anyway it's Bosch very thin metal T

Shank um but her we found out what her actual

problem was so when you go to cut

your van windows out there is

uh send you my girl so there are these

supporting members that go into the van so that the sheet metal doesn't flex and

wobble um and believe it or not the roof of the Ford Transit is glued in with this foam

Automotive uh just this weird foam I can't explain it but they use this on

these ribs and that allows it to the sheet metal to stick and then

that's how it sticks it's pretty crazy but the metal that they use for these supports is not the

same uh it's not the same as the sheet metal itself it's a completely different metal

and it's extremely hard and will just destroy your blades so what you want to do

let me see if I have my

so what you want to do is not use a jigsaw you want to use like this Milwaukee uh

kind of low profile uh cut off wheel this three inch three

inch cut off wheel and that three inch cut off wheel you're

going to want to cut those out first and then cut your whole entire window out with the jigsaw blade

the jigsaw blade just can't you can't cut through that special metal that they use for the structural supports of the

van and it just really makes it tough

um let's see where let's see Rip Torn where I missed your

original question where was it waiting for delivery the floor

one with camera and one without camera cutouts

oh link to the grill gotcha got you um yeah they have yep they have one with

the camera and then one without the camera exactly

now you can the nice thing is these are actual Ford

products they're from the Ford Transit Trail overseas model

um but they do fit uh I think it's uh the second half of model year 2020 and

up so with that new uh

you'll notice 2020 Ford Transit model year The Grille is kind of upside down

versus you know 20 21 and up it's kind of flipped

uh and I would suggest you get if you do have the camera with like the little

there's a camera and then there's like a little uh uh pop out

water sprayer for the camera to clean the lens off what I would suggest you do is if you

have that buy the one with a pre-cut out because there's a whole uh board that you have

to unscrew take out and then re-screw back in and so if you

get the one that does not have the coals out I don't know if it has the mounting location for that camera and the water

sprayer [Music] um uh but right now I'm just gonna I'm just

gonna randomly put this uh Ebay link in if I can find it

so when you on eBay you want to type in board Transit

Trail or Transit Trail Raptor

Style Grill

okay Ford Transit Raptor style Grille is what you want to type in

and then you want to go down to genuine Ford Transit Mark 8 mk8 Trail

2019 onwards Raptor Style so click on that

so when you look at the grill down here is where

am I zooming in does not work I hate that um

this top section this is where a key goes for a security feature in the

European models we don't have that but it doesn't matter it doesn't affect anything in the US you'll just have a

hole right there um this bottom section is where the sprayer and camera is housing is located

um oh good so see how this little bracket is right here so it looks like if you get the one

don't quote me on this but it looks like if you get the one that doesn't have the cutouts

this does have the support backing board for that circuit board I was telling you

about um okay so here's this one when you click on this on eBay it's

going to give you some suggestions down here at the bottom and if you go to this one

uh it's got the same thing

let me see if I can find one with a camera in it

um okay so I don't see one with the camera

yeah the prices are all they're all over the place unfortunately so to be honest we're actually cheaper I
