foreign hey guys welcome back to the shop in today's live stream we're going to go over lawn sill flooring so if
0:46
you're looking for a high-end flooring it's very scuff resistant and used in a
0:51
lot of commercial applications then that's what we're going to go over today and we're going to also talk about
0:56
different types so I got some sample books over here that we're going to look at through with a GoPro and then at the
1:03
end we're going to do some commentary on the recent install that I did on Thomas's van from here on out we're
1:09
going to refer to as Marine one so uh yeah let's get started let's go over here to the computer
1:15
and uh check out the webpage so first thing you do is I go online look
1:22
up lawn seal and you can just right off the bat see kind of what they're about
1:27
well you're probably most familiar with lawn cell flooring is is going to be from the aircraft industry so if you're
1:34
on a plane or in the airport that coin flooring that you see on the ground
1:40
that is lawn sale product most often they've got all kinds of different applications
1:47
you know exhibit Halls stuff like that hospitals also like in specialty
1:54
Vehicles such as ambulances um and also known in the Marine industry
1:59
so a lot of boats uh the Yachts that you see that it kind of looks like a teak floor but it's actually sometimes it's
2:05
going to be lawn Sill and this is actually what we're going to talk about today so
2:10
what people been doing is they've been taking this and putting it into Vans it's a perfect product for a van
2:16
um you know it's very scuff resistant it's very resilient it's easy to clean and it it wears very well
2:24
and let's move into some different types let's see here what
2:30
I was going to show you guys yeah essentially you can Google it look at a bunch of pictures
2:36
um but the next thing is to get into uh different types so we've already talked
2:43
about briefly that you know it's really tough resilient so let's talk about all
2:48
the kind of design stuff that you can use all kind of different um products that they make that's
2:54
essentially the same thing just different textures different colors so we're on this product page of lawn
3:01
seal in a minute I'm going to show you where I purchased mine from not affiliated with this at all just
3:08
it's a place that I go because it's really easy to order from and so that's perfectfit.com so this is where I get
3:14
everything so you can actually see prices you can kind of price out what you want as far as uh the floor you end
3:21
up choosing but right here let's see yep there we go
3:29
so there's all kinds of different kinds and in just a second I'm going to show you some sample books that I have so I
3:36
did a specialty order of some sample books right behind me that way if I have
3:42
customers that come in the shop they can actually see you know touch feel the textures look at the colors it's much
3:48
better than kind of just looking online because this flooring is pretty expensive so you know you really do want
3:53
to make sure you're getting something that you're going to want for a long time uh so here's a bunch of stuff
4:01
um I wanted to get to the Lawnwood marine and I wanted to get onto this one specifically because this is what we
4:07
used in Thomas's van now design wise um this is the kind of look that we were
4:13
going for uh it was more of a kind of like 80 20 industrial with more kind of like
4:22
the marine application and uh I didn't pull up a picture of it let me do that
4:28
in another live stream about his ceiling um the ceiling of his van could be a whole
4:34
video of itself it's a really cool slatted style ceiling with the embedded LED lights
4:40
so yeah we'll definitely do that in a future stream but let's just choose this one for right
4:45
now so I can talk to you about it uh which one we chose and then show you the
4:51
uh stuff in the book application stuff like that so we chose Lawnwood lawn Marine Wood
5:00
and we went with the teak and ebony
5:05
um and this the wood grain finish on these uh is incredible uh
5:10
it actually has some depth to it so these pictures on their website I
5:16
mean they really don't do it justice um hopefully the GoPro can kind of pick up the wood grain of this stuff
5:22
um it's pretty cool now this might not be your style but
5:30
um again there's stuff to everybody has a different idea of what they want
5:36
but this one in particular
5:41
we really liked because we are essentially going to match his ceiling to the floor kind of like a mirrored
5:46
effect and it actually worked out really well
5:52
and then if you go to perfectfit.com you can go to their
5:57
marine or their lawn sill flooring and then this way you can actually go through
6:03
find what you want for example like the lawn Marine Wood you can click on it
6:10
see this will pull up and then you can start pricing out the
6:16
size that you need for a van so this next part pay attention to it
6:22
because this is going to decide what orientation you're going to put the floor because you're pretty much going to have to only do it in one orientation
6:29
so for example with this uh piece that we're doing for his van notice the the
6:35
long lines so these long lines coincide with the roll width
6:41
so for example when you get your role of vinyl
6:48
actually I'm going to jump to something real quick so this will make sense
6:55
if I go here
7:03
and fast forward to the end it's okay we're doing it live we can
7:08
jump around uh let's see
7:15
there we go so if you notice this piece of lawn Sill
7:21
is the lines go long ways which which makes sense
7:27
so what you want to do is if you have like the wood effect or
7:32
something like that just know that the lines are going up and down they're not going to go left to right on most of
7:39
these products and then what I wanted you guys to pay attention to when you get to order it is
7:44
notice that they sell them in six foot wide rolls um you can get it up to 60 feet
7:51
obviously you don't need that for a van but the six feet is important because
7:58
you're going to have to start making considerations on the
8:03
uh the placement so if you have a ProMaster versus a Transit versus a sprinter
8:11
the amount of extra that you're going to have on the sides so if you intend to cover a gap
8:18
or you intend to kind of roll it up as like a kind of like shoe molding or something like that or like a toe kick
8:24
type of thing um just be aware of that uh I'm pretty precise when I do installs
8:31
like this so it bothers me if this center line is not perfectly Center so
8:38
for example I added up all these ribs divided by two kind of my halfway and found my middle point so this green
8:45
piece of tape is my center line of the van so this is the exact center line of the whole band
8:51
so you may put it in and just roll it up against the left side and cut all your excess off on the right side
8:58
um but I wanted to have this line perfect because uh I just wanted to do that I was thinking
9:04
maybe in the future or once the bill got going on I could use it as my reference knowing that this is a true Center Line
9:10
right here um anyway so let me go back to
9:18
just go back to here okay so just know that six foot wide
9:23
doesn't come wider that's pretty much going to do it for any van application you have
9:30
um and then the roll length [Music] so if you want to use this
9:36
if you have if you're working with your van and you have the van floor itself and you're just doing the floor you know
9:42
just get about uh two feet extra so when I got the
9:48
material for Thomas's van this is exactly how much we had left off lengthwise so it's about
9:56
you know maybe two feet and so this was pretty much the only scrap from his van
10:05
um but if you're wanting to if you say you went with like the black coin grip
10:11
um what are the gray or something like that or they have like a speckled pattern I'll show you that in just a second if you're going with that
10:17
um you're probably wanting to also maybe wrap the bottom cabinets like where if you have like mountain bikes or something that's going to scuff it up
10:23
you know storage stuff that you put in the back for the trip um if you're wanting to actually coat
10:29
the cabinets with the floor that's a good idea to order extra and then you can just uh you know measure
10:34
out the square footage accordingly with that
10:40
so we're going to go from here and we're going to move into the different sample types
10:47
so bear with me right now we're going to turn on this GoPro
10:56
here I'll put on my face so uh this is that system I was telling you guys about maybe in the other video
11:04
and it is a wireless system to where we can actually
11:10
I can share my point of view through the van so as I'm building the Vans out
11:16
you guys can see right here this is going to be able to show you what's going on it's really
11:22
cool so it's a if you guys want to nerd out for a second this is a ultra low latency 1080p transmitter
11:30
and that's the fancy way of saying whatever you see on the GoPro essentially shows up in real time so
11:36
there's not a lag so if I go to point to something you know my voice isn't like 10 seconds
11:42
afterwards um anyway so let's go over here we're going to talk about the different sample
11:47
types so over here on this section I've got let me move this up out
11:54
of the way so we're going to come back to this
11:59
piece of insulated board with the
12:06
this is the Zip system and this right here we're going to come back to that in just a second
12:15
all right so here are the two binders that you can order
12:20
and let's see if I can get this out of the way
12:25
I can show you guys the title of these so the first one we have is the embossed
12:33
um binder and then we have these smooth and wood grain binder if you really want to you can contact
12:39
perfect fit and and order these I'm not sure the cost is it's been a while since
12:45
I order these two books but this is just so if I have customers come in the shop they can actually touch you know feel
12:52
the different uh types of textures because um Lonesome foreign it is uh it's not
12:58
cheap but you can um get one of these binders you can really
13:04
go through their the inventory that they have so this this first stuff that I'm
13:10
showing you this is the typical coin grip flooring so this is the stuff that you might see like on airplanes
13:16
um what's actually kind of popular is this speckled color I'm not sure if that's coming through
13:24
but it kind of has like these little white flakes in it and then we have we got these
13:32
some glossy stuff I don't I don't like the glossy stuff um
13:37
we actually have a diamond plate
13:45
so I mean you can use this for all kinds of stuff it doesn't have to be for Van products
13:53
and again this is the texture stuff pretty much you're not going to be using this for a van but uh oh this actually
13:59
this you will so this is a lawn point moonwalk
14:04
and I've seen this in a bunch of Van Builds on YouTube so this has a different texture pattern
14:11
it's like the coin it gives you the grip like the coin but actually I think a little bit better and it looks really
14:18
cool and they've got some really nice colors like some really good earthy colors I
14:24
think this moccasin is really nice I've actually seen that in uh in a van
14:29
um but probably this out of this whole book is what you might put in the van other than the black coin floor like I
14:35
just said let's go over here this is the smooth and wood green so these are your higher
14:41
end finishes so if you wanted to do um if you're looking for a higher end flooring system for your van
14:48
this is what you're going to want to do you're going to have all kinds of different wood grains and patterns
14:56
and I'm I know it's not going to show up on this GoPro but there's actual texture built into this uh
15:04
floor it's it's pretty amazing then you're going to have some stuff that's almost like a linen type of
15:11
embossing on top of it that one is called let's see here
15:21
so we got lawn strand and anytime you see Topsail
15:27
see what's coming in yeah Topsail anytime you see that that is like an extra protective coating that they put
15:34
on it to be a little bit more abrasive resistant I mean it already is pretty awesome but uh that's even better
15:42
and you guys can look at these website I'm just I'm just showing you because I want to show you the uh the thicker
15:47
there's like a thicker foam one that actually has some cushioning to it
15:55
look at this they got some really wild uh flooring and I think if you guys follow 70 Savage
16:02
he's a YouTuber that's doing it as a zombie apocalypse build these uh one of these is what he
16:10
used on his uh his build I'm pretty sure it's one of these
16:20
okay what that sounds that means that my GoPro ran out of battery
16:25
so uh that happens I didn't get a chance to show you guys this uh the one that has the uh the
16:33
thicker foam but this one is actually twice as thick so it's kind of uh like
16:38
spongy so if you if you wanted something that was had some give to it uh this is
16:43
the uh what is the name of this called Lawnwood performa that's what these are
16:52
and so they're they're almost maybe 3 16 not really a quarter of an
16:58
inch um and then this stuff right here is this more you know plain
17:04
shiny which you're probably not going to want a band you want some texture and uh just just remember as you're
17:11
building your van you probably want something with texture because you want some grip you want a color that's going
17:16
to you know mask some dirt and stuff like that because if you're going out in the the Wilderness you know you're
17:22
bringing sand and dirt and stuff like that like a white lawn cell flooring is not probably going to be what you want
17:28
to go with something that hides the dirt something that's grippy so that is what I would
17:37
recommend to you guys um
17:42
see I wanted to show you this thing over here
17:49
I'm going to leave you guys on this Longwood floor page really quick and replace that battery
17:58
because I definitely want to show you guys the uh
18:03
that Zip system sheathing
18:09
as well as kind of the lawn seal just like a real life example
18:17
see if I can get this GoPro back up
18:33
yeah this is going to be really cool so when we get to going over here and
18:39
doing the van builds you guys can already see how awesome this is going to be just kind of
18:44
first person uh point of view of you know working on the van all right so let's go over here and
18:51
check out this um so there's a the company that makes this
18:57
uh for some reason is not on the top of my head but anyway they Auto they automatically cut this
19:03
system out so that you can do um it's the flooring system that we used
19:10
AVC rig that's where we got this from AVC rig and they have it for Transit uh
19:17
spreader and I think ProMaster and essentially what they've done is they've taken a zip system sheathing
19:24
uh and this is actually made in four by eight sheets of plywood and so what
19:31
they've the value that they've added to this 4x8 Zip system is they've uh
19:36
created a CNC path to cut this out specifically for a van
19:42
size that way you don't have to do it they even for example gave you the little hole to lower
19:49
the spare tire but with this system
19:54
I'm just going to briefly show you how I applied this and then we'll go into that commentary video
19:59
but imagine this is your floor so you get your insulated floor and then you've got your your material
20:06
the next thing that you're going to want to get in you guys are going to wonder why this box is
20:12
leaking for some reason this must have been broke damaged when I
20:17
purchased it and I just pulled it out of the corner because I'm not ready to use it yet I'm gonna have to order another one obviously
20:22
but yeah it must have gotten dropped in the shop um anyway so you guys get to see that but
20:29
this is uh this is the epoxy system for the floor so this is
20:35
how you adhere the lawn sill floor to whatever
20:40
uh you're applying it to could be wood could be
20:46
um in this case of the Zip system this is a waterproof coating that they put on the
20:52
top of it that's what the green stuff is so it's two parts and what you're going
21:01
to do is once you have the floor cleaned prepped cleaning is really all you have to do the second thing is get your
21:08
um you're going to want to take this right here you want to lay it out in your van
21:14
and make sure you don't need any major cuts which you're not going to need it because it's already six foot
21:20
wide there's really nothing you can do about the width so the length can just trail out the back of the van no problem
21:27
so this is the the most difficult part the reason that this is so hard the
21:33
epoxy even if you're experienced is has to do with the open time and the working time
21:39
so I'm not sure if you guys can see that if you can't see that I'll explain what
21:44
this is so we got in the instructions you have open time and work in time that is the time that you have to work
21:51
with this the open time is the time you have to mix it and then the working time is the time you have to apply it
21:58
and the reason you need to have all your ducks in a row Everything clean and prepped and ready to go is once you take the part B and put it into
22:06
part a you have 15 minutes to work with it and get it mixed
22:12
once that's up you only have 15 minutes to get it trowed out and put on your van
22:18
and you need a specific trowel so this Trail right here see how to find
22:24
the teeth are on it this is a specific depth for this to
22:31
work correctly you don't want to have it too thick because it's going to get all
22:36
uh the the epoxy is going to start to cure and if you don't have everything evenly
22:43
put down you're going to have lumps because as the epoxy starts to harden it
22:48
it it's harder and harder to move so you really need to work quickly using this
22:55
so let's take what we've learned so far about what lawn sale is
23:00
how we're going to apply it with this epoxy stuff what we're applying it to and the the
23:07
bottom piece and let's go over here let me turn this off
23:14
and we're going to go through and go through the video of me actually installing it
23:21
um see you turn this thing off
23:29
all right come on GoPro
23:42
all right let's get over here into videos
23:57
and to open with there we go
24:02
all right so the first thing we're going to do is we are going to start disassembling the van
24:09
so that's pretty straightforward you know we're going to take the foot plate
24:14
out we're going to do all that stuff so what's nice about this system from
24:20
ABC rig is they gonna they actually give you a threshold piece to use so that you can
24:28
you know clean it up and make it look professional it's going to come with like a a still lip
24:36
that lip's going to be powder coated all that good stuff
24:44
and so you can actually see that uh piece right there in the bottom
24:52
so that piece comes out and then that nice piece comes back in
24:57
so right there on the floor if you guys can see that that's the formed metal piece that is uh powder coated
25:06
and then in the next clip we're going to just move on we've got all that cleaned out over here on the right side and
25:11
we're going to start working on where the parking brake is
25:17
this parking brake is like the housing has to be moved so you'll start to see that there's things
25:23
that need to be moved in the van to begin this install
25:28
and this is the uh the ABC rig flooring piece is cut out it's made into three
25:34
sections so it's really easy to put in however
25:39
there's a little caveat that I want to tell you guys about as far as putting it
25:45
in the van there's a set of instructions with a certain adhesive that is recommended to use but depending on how
25:53
you're installing it whether you're three people or you're just one person that's really going to dictate how
26:00
you're going to be able to install it for me I'm a one man doing this in this van
26:07
and one thing you're gonna have to make sure of is over here on the top
26:13
so I'm marking up this top here the seams you want to have the seams as close together as possible so that
26:19
warrants you being able to move these pieces ABC rig recommends that you use a
26:26
product it's called a 3M 90. so uh let me let me just get a can of
26:33
that
26:40
so there's there's two products they make a uh like a uh they have a
26:47
a liquid spray version that's like an upholstery spray that comes in like a one gallon can so I purchased that for
26:54
my next install but this is what is recommended if you're kind of a DIY and don't have that
27:01
the the problem that I had was um you'll see here in a second uh
27:07
Thomas has a wheelchair lift and that lift has a special bracket that we do
27:14
not want to move because everything is everything is orientated very true and
27:19
moving that bracket just opens a can of worms about all kinds of stuff so you
27:25
want that bracket you need to have is like almost like a date and point like a point that it's it's referenced off of
27:31
so if you can imagine um [Music]
27:37
that bracket is over here in the corner we'll see in just a second um that's actually something really good
27:43
to bring up is you need to make sure that anything that you can foresee being a
27:48
hindrance to installing you've got to get that finished up
27:54
uh you got to get that worked out before you put this in so let's just keep
28:01
playing this so what I'm doing is I'm just trying to figure out everywhere that this is going to impact
28:08
uh the van and something's going to make sure that make it out of whack or
28:14
something like that so for example if you look in the bottom right hand corner that bracket is just barely touching it
28:20
but like I say in a couple of my videos everything in a van affects everything so wherever this sheet is placed the
28:29
next sheet is referenced off of that and then the next she's referenced off of that so you can't simply just move it
28:34
forward and say okay this will be fine I'm gonna go from there you really got to think about the end
28:41
result and that's pretty much anything you do in a van build is
28:46
however the end is going to be it's it's very hard to backtrack and fix something after you've done so much in
28:53
event so this next section what I'm doing is uh I'm taking a square and I'm going
29:00
through and I'm mapping out where the bracket is to the uh and translate it to
29:06
the top piece because I need that top piece to just I need everything to settle down nice and
29:12
easy because remember we're going to put down adhesive now this is not lawn seal this
29:19
is everything happening before we do the lawn Sill so this is floor prep
29:27
so we're talking about lawn sale but in the meter in the middle we got to talk about what it's going to go down on
29:33
and that's this floor so right here what I'm doing is uh I'm just cutting out that uh piece of
29:41
where the bracket is oh and another another thing that was kind of a trick of Our Sleeve was
29:47
we also had to there was this power supply for the wheelchair lift and at
29:52
the time we didn't have a time to uh because we only had it in the shop for two days so we couldn't reroute this we
29:59
couldn't take it apart and redo it the way we wanted to I had to leave it but then
30:05
I had to drill a hole out right here so that once the floor went down we could
30:11
still get the cord back up so lots and lots of stuff so take your time when you do this
30:17
um and kind of just step by step get
30:23
everything you know organize as much as you can because things are going to come up
30:36
so we got the first part done now I'm just cutting this section out of the other side because this is probably like
30:43
a quarter inch Gap and so finally we've got it to where it's going to sit nice and flush
30:54
and you'll see me move this just about a million times but it's got to be very precise so we only
31:00
have one location where the cord can come up through one location where that bracket is
31:16
so now I'm just pretty much just continue to do do all that let's see where I got
31:24
okay so I'll go ahead and pause it there so this is what we were trying to achieve now just keep in mind the whole
31:30
time we're doing this look at this board so
31:37
one thing you do when you're we're building um if you're building your van outside in
31:44
like your driveway for example the the weather's gonna mess with you a little bit because
31:51
you're going to have the expansion and contraction of wood you're going to have different humidities if you're working outside versus inside a shop
31:58
in a perfect world inside a shop like this with air conditioning is perfect it's really not for your
32:04
comfort it's more for the materials that you're using because
32:10
expanding Contracting contraction can start to warp boards so if we go back
32:15
into the video if you guys can see
32:22
um the boards that Thomas has you can see how they got like a little bit of a curve on this back side and this piece
32:30
right here is this one's the straighter piece and then this one's more curved
32:36
and it's just the nature of you know buying something that's even though it's engineered wood
32:42
you know engineered wood isn't perfect um so
32:47
this is going to affect our our seam so we want to make sure that we keep an eye
32:53
on that when we go to actually glue it down
33:00
okay so now we're moving on to the back we got the first section done we got the second section done
33:15
and then what I'm doing right here is uh he has the ramp in the back
33:20
um I can't wait for this series to come out of this van it's so cool so back here in the back is where uh
33:27
Thomas loads his paragolfer so look up a paragrapher it is an awesome
33:33
piece of machine uses it to go off Shooting Sports all that stuff and it's the whole reason
33:40
behind this this van build everything was designed around it so that's the ramp that loads
33:45
the paragraph or into the van what I'm doing now is I'm measuring because I can only cut one time
33:53
it's got to be perfect and that is the last section so that Gap now visually you are seeing you're going
34:01
to see this Gap at the back so it needs to be as clean as possible there's no redo here
34:07
uh this this flooring system is very expensive so measure 30 times cut Once on This Job
34:16
so now that I got the angle that I wanted I mean the the location where I want my cut to be
34:23
you guys can actually see this bottom piece is uh that's the piece right over here so
34:28
that's a scrap piece from it so we got we're cutting this out
34:34
and then what I'm doing right now is I'm just prepping
34:40
everything and just really really double checking again I'm gonna pause the video you can
34:46
kind of see how there's a little bit of difference here in here so you can see see how there's
34:51
you can see the white of the board then over here there's no white of the board that's obviously because I'm
34:58
putting my weight on it but that'll be important in just a minute
35:06
so this all has to do with lawn sill I promise because it's the floor
35:12
the reason I'm harping on this levelness and evenness is because once you put the lawn sill flooring in
35:19
those gaps thankfully lonzoil is pretty thick so
35:25
those gaps in the floor even though if they put it up perfectly or they're off just a little bit
35:31
it that material will kind of ease over that transition you're going to have
35:36
some transition lines and bumps depending on your van depending on
35:42
uh humidity how you glued it in all the above so I'm going to show you some tricks
35:48
that I did to mitigate that transition to make it as least noticeable as possible
35:55
let me go back to it okay
36:02
so we got our piece in here and I'm cutting the rubber just to make sure
36:08
this thing is laid down as flat as possible
36:13
so once I do that everything's looking good next
36:20
uh evenness making sure that um
36:25
okay here is a perfect example you guys can see how these boards are
36:30
kind of are warped so this first one now we're going to fix all this but I just I wanted to bring this to your
36:37
attention because if you are if you're new at doing this di whatever
36:44
it's okay that this stuff may not stick out you may be really excited that you got the whole flooring system in you
36:49
know it came in uh it was undamaged and you're just ready to put it in but
36:56
so things like this you might Overlook so that's why I like doing videos like this so I can I can really point out these details really harp on them so
37:03
that you guys you can see something that you might not have seen when you were where you were installing it because it does ultimately
37:11
affect the very end product of your van the flooring system is really important
37:16
to have a really just like laser focus on because everything is going to go on top of the
37:21
floor so if it was kind of off and then you go to add the whole entire system uh whether it's your your bed or cabinets
37:28
or whatever and then a little section of the floor is off you know it might be kind of like an eyesore so this is something that you
37:34
can help you guys out these little tiny things you know
37:41
they make a difference I'm saying this because I know how the the end result came out
37:48
so you can see how this board's a little warped um so it's kind of curving down
37:55
so that's actually not that much uh well the board yeah was warped a little bit
38:00
but also underneath here Ford actually doesn't have that much support so where this IP is
38:08
this line there's not these ribs there's only like one two ribs
38:15
corrugations in the van to support that so I think that was also playing into it
38:21
this one is nice flat and straight okay and then we got this one back here
38:27
so you can kind of see me I'm what I'm doing here is I'm trying I'm wondering I'm confused
38:33
okay so this will be how you are if you did this for the first time I'm confused at why it's not laying flat
38:40
because um there so there's actually these little bumps and stuff that Ford has underneath
38:47
the van and I what I was doing is I kept thinking that something was under here that I wasn't seeing and it was keeping
38:53
it from not going level as I wanted to wanted it to be
38:58
but I checked and checked and checked and I didn't find anything it just had it was actually that the the boards had a little bit of a
39:04
warp to them so took me a while to figure that out because
39:10
um first time I've installed this type of floor and so I kept looking looking I was like
39:16
man what is what is keeping this kind of cockeyed here you know I put the bar
39:22
anyway the point is I went through this whole thing trying to figure it out
39:29
so the next thing is I figured it out and I said you know what we're just going to put um
39:35
extra silicone on these uh corrugations and then we're going to kind of uh
39:42
move it in a way that would make it um
39:49
see if I can explain this to you so you have the corrugations in the van so imagine you got these ribs okay
39:57
and so I'm using silicone to adhere this floor and this is silicone is so that when I
40:04
put the board down I still have a couple of minutes to where I can move it I kind of move it in and out to get that seam
40:11
really tight um it's not the 3M 90 or that adhesive
40:17
that ABC rig has for their assembly it's the same way that I adhered my floor on
40:23
the van behind me and so it works great silicone is an excellent adhesive but I wanted to use
40:30
the silicone because since that board was warped a little bit with the silicone I could actually move it into
40:35
place and get it where I want it and then as soon as it was locked in there as soon as it cured it was it was it was
40:41
perfect so that ended up working excellent um
40:46
so what I'm doing now is I'm just scuffing up the floor to get some good adhesion
40:52
not going down to metal or anything like that just a little light Barillo pad and then what I'm doing now is just using some
40:59
isopropyl alcohol maybe using denatured alcohol not sure what I was using uh oh
41:04
yeah so you see right here see how there's no corrugation I don't know if that shows up in the video can I zoom in
41:12
no I can't zoom in so right here you guys can see
41:19
there's no if you can see there's no corrugation and then this right here there's there's a corrugation missing
41:26
so this side doesn't really have the support like it does over here
41:36
so here is the silicone install so I went through
41:42
and uh so these sections right here are what are going to
41:49
touch the bottom of the corrugation and the white pieces are the top of the
41:54
corrugation so I wanted to make sure so just make sure that you hit all of those
42:03
and uh one thing that I found out was this well
42:09
at least on the one that we had this white section hovers on top of the
42:15
corrugations it doesn't actually physically touch these bottom parts do
42:21
so that might be an area of improvement for this this product um
42:27
but anyway so I laid it down
42:32
and then I went ahead and put um I used to do DJ entertainment so I got
42:38
all my flight cases my turntables and snow chains and water bottles and sand
42:43
picks anything of weight and then what that was doing is two things one
42:49
is you know obviously holding in place but it's it's I needed a ton of weight so that
42:54
uh that Ben I was trying to get that bend out a little bit
43:00
so I come in with the next piece do the same thing clean uh alcohol silicone
43:10
and then I've got this in now we were hoping there's a string right here we were hoping that this
43:17
string we would be able to use to do some it's a channel that they put in the van
43:22
so if I zoom back notice how there's like this channel right here where there's no uh it's like
43:29
where the section of the band was by Ford was joined that's a cable that's a cable tunnel you
43:35
see that where that string is so you can run cables electrical cables there
43:43
um now that string
43:49
is so in the future we could pull a cable through well our layout did not allow that in the future so but if
43:55
you're wondering what that string is for that's what that was for so again more of my DJ equipment speaker
44:01
speakers more speakers all right I'll get that all in
44:07
even the subwoofers and then now I'm on my last section so I blew it all out cleaned it
44:13
um here you guys can see I don't know you can zoom in this video maybe later but see how the middle
44:19
things don't touch it's just the bottom so that's why I only silicone this bottom section
44:24
I'm not sure why they did that maybe it's designed on purpose
44:31
so if you're wondering why I didn't do the silicone there is because essentially it would would not touch
44:38
this bottom part is the only part touching
44:43
okay moving down
44:51
all right more silicone and then this one was pretty much my
44:57
files and brake rotors foreign boxes
45:03
um yep that's pretty much all I had so we allowed that to sit on there uh
45:09
overnight so it would it recommends 24 hours so 24
45:15
hours here so here's a little hack that you guys can uh steal from me so you see
45:22
this uh piece of uh it's not a two by four it's thinner than that what is that uh
45:28
1 by 3 or something like that um so I I did that here and on the back
45:34
side and that way when I put the weight on it the seam is going to be equidist equal I mean it's going to be level on
45:41
both sides so that way when it dries it should be perfectly level
45:49
um so I took everything so you can see that look at that perfectly that joint is seamless it's
45:55
seamless it worked out very very well
46:02
um oh yeah so I didn't tell you about the ABC Rig recommended adhesion so that
46:10
super 90 the downside remember I told you the the silicone I was able to move it after I placed it
46:17
with this contact adhesive you need at least two or three friends because you need to lay it down perfect
46:25
the first time because this is an instant adhesion once you spray this on
46:30
this on the product the board you spray on the floor and you let it
46:35
off gas for just a second um once you put the floor down if you
46:41
messed up it's there it's there for life if you had to move it you would rip off
46:46
all the foam and destroy it and you'd have to order a whole new kit so that is why I was I was kind of against this
46:53
method because I wanted to make sure that once I put the flooring down I was able to
46:58
move it just I mean just a little bit but if you use contact adhesive it's
47:03
when you lay it down it's permanently there you you are not pulling it back up so if you got a cockeyed or you moved it
47:10
too much forward or too much backwards that's where that's where it's going to be so
47:17
um the silicone is not nothing that was recommended but I've used it in the past
47:23
I've used it on my personal van it's worked great it's not not come loose or anything like that
47:30
um yeah so I just wanted to give you that point since I kept telling
47:36
you guys that the silicone was so great all right we're moving in we are cleaning everything out of the van
47:44
and I promise you guys we're getting back to the lawn sill the point of this live stream
47:50
there it is see it's we got it in the video so when I skipped over
47:56
um I guess I didn't have the footage of me doing this and it was uh it's footage of me cutting out the Contours
48:03
so you want to get some basic Contours cut out because it's not going to allow you to
48:10
easily install this so if you imagine if I did not cut out the wheel well on this flap
48:16
over here on the side it it was going to uh
48:21
why is that audio plane hold on
48:33
um if I didn't do that it would compromise this middle part it wouldn't lay down flat uh
48:39
so cut it out pre-cut this out as much as you possibly can so everything you can
48:46
do because you can move it around you know you're it's not down yet so moving around play around with it all
48:52
that good stuff get it where you want it to be um
48:58
and it because you only get remember you only get 15 minutes to work
49:04
with it if you can mix it a little bit faster maybe you get 20 minutes
49:11
so when I installed this um it was pretty stressful because the epoxy cure I mean it's it's curing once
49:18
you put that part B into part A and start mixing it that The Cure time the clock is ticking
49:23
so what I did is I set clock for 30 minute alarm
49:29
and then I had another I have my phone set up on a 15 minute alarm I'm sorry out on a uh a seven minute alarm
49:37
so essentially what I did was I started one alarm at 30 that means
49:42
you know danger and then the other phone was going to go off to let me know that I needed to move from
49:49
the left side to the right side so I split it in half so I took 15 minutes
49:54
I did seven minutes on one side seven on the other you know obviously that's not 15 but seven minutes on one side the
50:00
alarm went off and I was like oh man if I'm here I need to start making my way over here to the right side or I'm gonna
50:05
run out of time and you will run out of time when you're doing this I mean it feels like watery
50:12
when you're putting it down at the beginning but as soon as it starts to cure it starts to get more gluey and
50:20
more gluey and it can be stressful so hopefully watching this video is going
50:25
to kind of help you guys prepare for that now let's fast forward here a little bit
50:31
so I've got this out okay why do I not have a video of the floor
50:38
being laid out oh well
50:44
um so essentially what I did was I oh yeah yeah that's a very important
50:50
thing so you see how I have it folded in half right now I actually scrilled screwed in
50:57
in two places where it would not be seen so this backs me covered but down here at the bottom right here at the bottom I
51:03
have a screw drilled in for the center point and then I have a screw drilled in for the center point right here
51:10
and by drilling a screw here and here it locks in the
51:16
the Lonzo flooring and that way I'm just worried about the flap on the right and
51:22
the left I don't have to worry about it the whole thing twisting on me so it
51:27
locked it in place and that way I can just put my adhesive on one side Trail it out fold it over and then go
51:35
the other side do the adhesive trowel it out and then fold it over and it doesn't move so
51:42
I put a screw in the top and I put a screw in the bottom and it's again it's where it's not going to be seen there's
51:48
going to be a little metal lip covering it covering the hole that I drilled through the product or the lawn seal
51:56
so I got everything ready to go I've already mixed everything into a bucket
52:06
now you can just put it in their bucket but for some reason I put it in a transport
52:11
another bucket anyway okay notice I have a respirator make sure you have a respirator make sure you
52:18
have gloves on make sure that you have
52:23
uh make sure that you have you're wearing clothes I don't I wore this for the video I don't know why but the pants
52:30
that I had were destroyed because when I moved to the other side I slipped in my my whole leg got epoxy all over it so
52:37
those pants are gone but because remember once you start putting it down you can't stop you can't
52:43
go run and get gloves you can't go run and get a respirator if you thought you needed it or change your shoes because I
52:51
mean you have seven minutes per side and that's it so once you start you want to have
52:56
enough time so that you're not um you know having a heart attack as you're running out of time
53:05
even if that means uh doing a mock layout like I'm not
53:10
lying put the lawn seal down get your tray on your hand and just act like you're
53:16
putting the stuff down and time yourself and then act like you're putting it down and time yourself
53:23
so what I did is I did a lot of practice and I was ready to go so now I can actually enjoy the process I can start
53:29
from the top I can get my uh
53:37
um you know kind of getting a Groove uh and the most important thing that you have
53:43
to remember is this Trail the this thickness it's very it's very
53:52
thin but you really got to make sure that this you you lay out this
53:59
thickness on the floor don't cheat and like have some Globs up because
54:04
um eventually you're gonna have to roll the floor out and imagine if you just
54:11
didn't take your time and you got a bunch of Globs it's going to start to turn into a big wave of a glob instead
54:17
of just like little ones that the roller can actually move out
54:24
so so here we are we're going we're making our move
54:31
coming down coming down um I think I'm checking my phone right
54:37
here oh yeah if you guys are wondering what this is this is this cutout
54:43
I relocated the AC unit from the back to the front because we didn't have any room in the
54:49
back where the water tank was so this was that's another video that was a pretty amazing thing that I'd
54:57
I had in my head how was going to happen but in the real world it was pretty interesting because you actually
55:03
have to find a company to refabricate ac lines all right I digress
55:09
all right we got our TR everything's trowed out here we go here we go we're going
55:17
we're going all right so we got our first side done notice
55:23
it's very very even all good and then we're going to take this and
55:29
we're going to slowly roll it and we're rolling it like we're putting on a vinyl graphic or you know rolling out some
55:36
dough or whatever we're making sure we don't have any bubbles
55:42
take I know you don't have time but take your time all right
55:47
and then there you go there's one side so um
55:52
what did I so I guess okay so there's that oh yeah make sure so right here I
55:59
haven't messed my my pants up yet so don't accidentally get your knees in the
56:05
bottom of this and then uh get on your pants and then get it on top
56:10
of your lawn Sill if you get that epoxy on anything it's ruined you're not going to clean it off
56:18
um you maybe try to do some mineral spirits or something like that but whatever you contacted will never be the
56:23
same all right moving now we are ready for side two so
56:30
notice how how well those two little screws that I put in there they just keep it nice taut
56:38
um and just ready to go so here's where I messed up I think my knee Kip see my knee is touching the
56:46
epoxy over here I think that's more messed up anyway okay so if you notice in the front see this
56:52
first side I didn't do that thing where I poured the bucket out okay and then you see me on this side watch
56:58
this I'm going I'm going and I'm like oh crap I just pour the whole bucket out uh now
57:05
there's a reason I did that okay so I researched a lot about epoxy
57:12
um when I did this the shop floor so I did I epoxy the shop floor
57:17
you know did a bunch of research and epoxy has something called a pot life and the pot life is
57:24
uh it it's how fast it's curing while it's in its pot you know where you mixed
57:30
it if you can quickly take that whole thing and pour it out the temperature goes
57:36
down so uh I think uh I could be wrong but I think
57:42
it's a endothermic reaction where the uh epoxy is it's it's creating it's
57:49
getting hot so if you can slow down its curing Time by uh getting it cool again
57:56
you can save yourself a couple minutes so what was happening in this uh part of the video
58:02
is it was starting to feel like glue it was hard to trowel and I was like man oh
58:09
so I immediately just poured the whole bucket out and what that does is that allows that epoxy
58:15
to cool and not hardened so quickly
58:21
or at least that's the theory so now I'm working my way man I'm I'm
58:27
Trucking it I am Trucking it like right here my alarm was going off so it's already been 15 minutes so this stuff is
58:33
from any any work I do forward is past uh the Cure the time that you can
58:39
actually work it's working time it's already passed I already ran out of time it is really hard right here to uh to
58:47
trail out it's very gluey very thick um and so I'm like man I gotta get this
58:53
down because you got to get it down and where it's not all the way cured because guess what boom you gotta get your uh
59:02
your little detail work so this whole thing is curing this whole time so this little detail work over
59:08
here I mean it's just you want to get that roller on there as soon as as soon as you can
59:15
so this little detail work around this wheelchair lift man
59:21
I had to do it perfectly and then I had to do it quickly and there's two things that usually don't go together
59:27
so it did good I was happy with what I did and I was like come on come on and then boom
59:32
finally I got the roller out so if you guys can see
59:38
17 minutes and 30 seconds on the clock so this this is real time I mean this is
59:44
I'm already two two and a half minutes past the working time
59:49
so I really had to get in here and just start rolling this floor down
59:55
and you want to roll it make sure you get all every get that epoxy very even
1:00:00
good contact and is that my last video
1:00:09
I guess it is all right I'll try to I'll try to
1:00:15
explain what I did here
1:00:21
okay so final thoughts on this come on
1:00:28
final thoughts are this is a pretty good video I'm on how
1:00:34
to install this and I think the only thing I left out was probably this roller part I didn't
1:00:40
mention at the beginning but you will need a I think it's a 75 or 100 pound roller
1:00:46
to roll this out I think this one was 75 I don't think
1:00:51
they made a 100 pound for my rental company was anyway this is the last process of the
1:00:58
lawn sill insulation installation so you're going to roll this out and
1:01:03
what you're doing is again you're trying to work out any air possible air bubble bubbles uh I did a pretty good job there
1:01:11
was nothing no air bubbles that I could see everything this actually was a Flawless install as stressful as it was
1:01:17
because it's just the timing because you don't want this to cure um
1:01:22
because not only is it the lawn cell you're messing up and having to redo but you can
1:01:29
potentially mess up the floor and then you're gonna have to redo that so
1:01:34
um that's why I really want to take really want to take your time on this
1:01:40
so again final step roll that out from the middle to the sides from the
1:01:46
front to the back and then you want to let it set for a little bit and then come back over
1:01:52
I think about an hour later don't quote me on that
1:01:58
there's there's two rolling periods with the initial rolling period and then there's a follow-up rolling period
1:02:06
uh so once you do that you're done it needs to um obviously not have foot traffic for
1:02:11
24 hours and then I'm just going to read the last part of
1:02:16
the instructions allow no foot traffic period for 24 hours after installation installation and allows 72 hours for the
1:02:24
adhesive to fully cure before setting heavy Furnishings or allowing heavy traffic
1:02:30
so we were only able to allow this to sit for uh 24 hours because Thomas needed to
1:02:39
head on to where he was going um
1:02:44
and the good news was you know the shop was at about you know 72 degrees the whole entire time the humidity was good
1:02:51
so you know it couldn't have been more of a better environment to allow for curing time so it felt good for that
1:02:58
so this took two days and those two days I'd say you could almost call it maybe
1:03:04
two and a half days maybe if you're doing DIY because you can't get around the time that it takes
1:03:10
for the adhesive as like the silicone to cure and you can't get around not being
1:03:17
able to walk on it to let the epoxy cure
1:03:22
now some people that do DIY vans you'll see them if you guys are doing it
1:03:28
outside you know you need it if it's too cold at night like below 70 degrees or whatever you're going to need to put
1:03:34
like a heater somewhere in the van and just kind of keep it warm and you're really going to have to baby this because you get one chance for that
1:03:40
epoxy to cure it doesn't cure properly it's going to be gummy or it's going to
1:03:45
be brittle rock hard so you need to make sure that you've got a really good uh
1:03:51
you try to manage the conditions
1:03:57
because once you're done that's it but the good news about everything is that
1:04:02
this floor is it's incredible Thomas has already been back to the shop we've been
1:04:08
kind of some tweaking some things as he's shaking the van down there's been sand in this van there's
1:04:13
been gravel there's been you know going back and down with the uh you know
1:04:19
the tires and stuff like that and it's doing great um it's really really good product so
1:04:25
this lentil in combination with ABC rig flooring it's a really great option
1:04:31
they're premium materials to be used in the van build so if this is kind of what
1:04:36
you're going for um look wise and kind of you know
1:04:42
on the high end of a van flooring system I think this is perfect for you
1:04:48
all right and uh let me step I'm going to step really quick on the other computer just to see
1:04:55
if I can access the chats
1:05:21
all right so I don't see anything coming through
1:05:26
so let's go ahead and close out this live stream so again let's go to the computer
1:05:34
it's a lawn sill if you guys are looking to uh get this just type it in it's spelled
1:05:42
weird it's spelled word l-o-n-s-e-a-l so type that in you can see all that
1:05:49
good stuff and if you want something an easy way to kind of go through and actually get a price um
1:05:55
again no affiliation but perfectfit.com is a just a easy place to go it's got
1:06:02
um it's got upfront pricing you know you can do how many feet uh there's not that big of a discount
1:06:08
for ordering more than 60. but you can at least see all this stuff
1:06:14
and then conveniently at the very bottom they have the trowel you can buy
1:06:22
just buy this Trail don't worry that it costs 22 dollars just get it
1:06:27
it's very important that that um the depth that you you spread it out
1:06:34
because it also has to do with the curing time and everything uh
1:06:40
this right here is what I bought I'm gonna have to buy it again um
1:06:45
that was a little expensive mistake if I dropped it or it was in shipping I don't know it's been too long to figure out who did it so I will have
1:06:52
to buy another 123 dollar bucket of that
1:06:57
um but you'll just need the product you'll need the floor you'll need the trout and this you don't need the tape
1:07:04
and you don't need this vertical service stuff um I'm not sure about the tape apparently
1:07:11
you can buy this tape and use it in place of the lawn so epoxy I don't know
1:07:18
about that um so yeah that's all you need floor
1:07:25
trowel this um so they make it nice and easy just
1:07:31
boom boom now this is linear foot so when you
1:07:36
order this like I'm just going to make an example uh the minimum you can do
1:07:41
apparently on their side is three so this is three three feet
1:07:47
by six feet that's what the linear foot means so
1:07:52
imagine you have a six foot wide roll and the linear feet is this this
1:07:59
direction so the default is six feet wide and you can start at three feet and then just
1:08:05
just add I think I got 12 or 14 feet I can't remember how much I ordered
1:08:14
um yeah so this is how that's what you need to buy it um
1:08:19
in the future I will have that long format real-time video so you guys can watch it or you can just uh re-watch
1:08:27
this live stream okay so that's that
1:08:32
lawn sale and uh yeah we're gonna close this thing out
1:08:38
guys if you have any question on how to install either the ABC rig flooring or
1:08:44
just any flooring in general put that in the comments below happy to answer that for you same thing with the lawn sill if
1:08:52
you want my recommendation on stuff like maybe some things that I've seen maybe trending a little bit I know the coin
1:08:58
flooring that's kind of like the basic everybody kind of gets that it's like the black coin uh but like a lot of the wood tones
1:09:06
and stuff like that are pretty nice um my recommendation is to go go with some
1:09:12
more like like Earth Tones stuff like that stuff like I said earlier that's going to hide dirt well
1:09:18
um and then actually consider maybe getting something that has a little more grip and texture to it if you're doing stuff that is more like off-road maybe
1:09:26
in the dirt the mud or the snow even um yeah but that's going to do it for
1:09:31
the lawn seal insulation installation video and uh hope to see you guys in the
1:09:38
next live stream next week um come with some questions and we can answer them live maybe do a little bit
1:09:45
of a q a at the end of the video but until next time uh I will see you guys next week
