hey everyone welcome back to the live stream we are working on the Ford Transit and we're moving from the front
3:16
of the van and started to make our way to the back of the van so what we're going to be working on today is the we
3:23
finished up the uh entertainment system in the middle so we got our big screen
3:28
connected we've got our reversing camera connected to the parking you know
3:34
shifter stuff and then we got the wolf box um which is the dash cam it's
3:40
connected to the rear camera we've got a power supply to it up on the headliner we've actually uh reinstalled the the
3:48
Ford factory shelf and then we went up and we've taken the two foam pieces and we're going to start to measure them and
3:55
a pster uh in today's stream we're moving to the left and the right hand column so
4:02
the left side you see all the holes in it on the driver's side and then on the passenger side where I got a little bit
4:07
of fabric those are the two things we're going to upholster today um and we need
4:13
to do that before we put the floor in So that we have a nice transition uh over in
4:18
the left hand side um so we're going to be doing that and then we're going to uh
4:24
finish up with installing these um Lagoon brackets
4:30
from far out ride so we've got a
4:35
standard Lagoon bracket that you can kind of get off of Amazon or from Lagoon itself this is a pretty standard chunky
4:42
bit it's on most RVs and we're going to be upgrading it to this really nice low profile system
4:50
here that for out ride um put together so this is not sponsored but I just
4:56
wanted to show you a cool product so if you go to 4 out ride.com uh I really
5:01
like this uh website um these guys have put a lot of work and effort into getting a lot of
5:08
great information for you um on the whole van life uh building out your van
5:15
and so their website has just a I mean a ton of information um all kinds of stuff you
5:21
can learn about installs tires Wheels electrical so over the past couple years
5:27
I've learned a lot from their website and um they have actually some products
5:33
believe it or not and what we're going to look at today is this which is this
5:39
bracket and It Bolts into the side of the Ford Transit um they have two
5:46
options so the typical install is going to be on the passenger side and so I'll hop
5:54
in the van I'll show you what I'm talking about
6:00
so in a Ford Transit uh there's some Factory nut inserts right here so you
6:07
got one two three and four and these two are typically for the Lagoon Mount so
6:12
you'll take the bracket and you'll place it right here and then it a kit will
6:18
usually come with these screws and then you bolt it in and all good to go um but
6:24
then what we're going to be doing is over here on the right side there's two holes um we're going to
6:31
be using our rivnut gun um which you can
6:36
find the link on the DIY van build cheat sheet link is in the description below the cheat sheet is completely free and
6:43
it's a list of the last three years of all of my Amazon purchases for the shop so this tool right here from Astro
6:50
pneumatics is on that and it makes putting in these nut inserts uh super
6:56
easy so we're going to do that and the these two will be used to mount this
7:02
plate here and then we'll have Lagoon Mount uh by the driver's seat so now with John
7:10
and Susan got their own table um but the reason we're at this point
7:18
right now is I need to upholster this so obviously the upholstery is going to
7:23
cover the holes so we need to identify where the holes are before we upholster
7:28
we need to take our foil tape and we need to cover up all these holes in here and then uh we're going to mask
7:37
everything off with some plastic uh we'll upholster this uh We've measured our piece of upholstery so we need um 6
7:45
feet high and 16 in wide and the reason
7:51
is up here we need to come out from this foam piece and
7:58
uh this foam piece will be wrapped differently from this fabric so this
8:03
fabric will match this wall here and this panel down here this will be the
8:08
four-way stretch fabric um and then let's see yes so we're doing
8:16
this before we put the final floor in So that that upholstery can go down below the floor and when we put the wood up
8:23
against the floor and then we put the lawn seal uh we'll have a really nice clean transition because this area it's
8:29
hard to do a transition over here unless you have some type of uh really clean
8:36
Edge um now some people don't care they'll you know just bump it up kind of
8:41
close but I like to put a little bit extra effort in try to make it as neat as possible because we don't really have
8:47
any you know floored trim or anything like that um covering that up so we need to make sure that's nice and neat
8:54
plus we can move our wires out of the way to give us ACC access to really get
9:00
this upholstered uh nice and tight then we'll put all of our panels back on
9:06
um then we'll have our Lagoon Mount that we can put in and we can kind of move on
9:12
um so we're doing that and then let's see if we have
9:18
time I might show you guys how to start doing uh upholstering this but really
9:25
these columns and uh The Cutting of the fabric is pretty much what I wanted to show you in
9:31
this live stream but yeah we'll have this Marathon Fabric and we'll have this wrapped
9:38
around here and we don't need much but um for
9:44
some reason I cut this piece and I I didn't realize I need to go up higher
9:49
because that foam uh the foam and the the Ford Transit it's important because this is
9:55
where the side curtain airbag comes down so that foam needs to be something that can break away from this area as the
10:01
curtain comes down um same as with uh
10:06
this channel right here so this channel right here is uh it's kind of this is
10:12
kind of like a a breakaway Zone if you can think about it so if you're going to do any type of cables or wires uh as you
10:19
can see I have here we need you need to go up above the airbag because airbag if
10:24
it ever goes off is going to come straight down and then this foam needs to be able to come blow out or you know
10:30
do what it is uh do what it needs to do so it you kind of need just to kind of
10:35
force fit it in there um maybe with some velcro or something like that on the back but uh you know you don't want to
10:42
build any type of structure around that airbag um just for safety
10:49
reasons okay so we got that too we got the hardware um yeah we ordered our part for
10:57
underneath the Ford Dash so that's going to help us get to where
11:03
we need to be um let me see if I can actually pull up
11:11
I'm going try to pull up that part so it is a
11:20
three it's like a three terminal mini fuse
11:27
tap
11:33
okay this is the really weird thing that I had to uh uh
11:38
find um that I didn't really know existed um so what we did is we had a fuse
11:44
tap and this is what came with the wolf
11:50
box so we've moved on from the Lagoon table now we're talking about the wolfbox uh dash cam so this device
11:57
allows you to tap into an existing fuse to either get a 12volt signal or a ignition signal to
12:06
operate things in the van so it can be a dash cam you know stereo um anything
12:13
that you want on when the ignition is on and off so it's not you
12:19
know uh depleting the battery when the engine's off so there's two here for a
12:26
mini fuse but Ford um gets a little Fancy with their
12:31
circuitry and you have to find this one right here that is a uh it's a micro 3
12:38
inline fuse circuit tap um and it looks like this so instead
12:44
of two it actually has three [Music]
12:49
um it actually has three uh what am I trying to
12:57
say three uh pins and then there's two spots for fuses so one would be the fuse
13:03
rating that you're trying to pull from the circuit and the second would be the original fuse to maintain the original
13:09
circuit that you are pulling from all right so that weird thing um
13:14
it's not expensive it's just a the three pin is just kind of an odd thing to
13:21
purchase um or fine actually as much as cars I've done in the last I don't know
13:27
ever since I've been working on cars um since high school I've never seen this
13:34
micro three pin wire tap or a micro 3 pin fuse for that matter so I've ordered
13:41
that as soon as it comes in on Friday we can really finish the front of the van we can move on from it um because I
13:49
really want to get to the main part of the van uh sometimes electrical takes
13:54
much longer than you think um you think you're putting in simple devices and and it actually ends up uh taking you know
14:01
twice as long um but what you'll try to do is you'll tend to want to take shortcuts
14:08
and you don't take shortcuts you wire it appropriately um I could have hacked
14:14
something to get this to work but I wanted to make sure that it's uh good for a very long time so waiting to get
14:21
this fuse tap that's appropriate for it in instead of splicing a wire or something like that um
14:29
it's the best way to do it all right now we're going to hop on over and we're
14:34
going to move the big camera and we're going to go ahead and cut
14:40
our um make sure I'm not unplugging the live stream rig
14:48
here there we go so we get this out of the
14:57
way and check the focus and we will keep on
15:04
going okay all right so we've already gone
15:10
through our role in the shop that we were using for uh some of the material that we've
15:16
been upholstering we're breaking into our bigger
15:24
roll so if you've never seen this fabric before uh it's very popular it's called
15:30
heather gray and it's made by a company uh called marathon and I get it from
15:38
company called perfect fit so perfect fit perfect fit.com is
15:45
who I get this
15:54
from but we can't use the little bit of fabric I have left left um
16:01
because this is where you get into having to use you have to roll it out to get the length because this is only so
16:07
many feet
16:14
wide so when you're working on your van consider if you need things
16:21
wider then you know like a instead of a
16:27
horizontal run if you need a longer run you're going to need to roll the fabric
16:42
[Applause]
16:57
out
17:08
trying to open this up without cutting the fabric is nice and fun okay so got
17:23
[Applause] that
17:35
[Applause]
17:47
okay so we need to come out to six feet and go ahead and cut
17:57
that and feel free to ask any questions van related in the chat
18:03
um I'm going to be watching the chat throughout the live stream so if you guys have
18:10
any questions just let me
18:22
know and I used a drywall Square to cut this
18:30
you guys are
18:57
wondering and when you're cutting uh you can pay attention to kind of how the the
19:02
weaves are in
19:14
this that'll give you your uh cuz sometimes it might be tilted
19:21
a little bit it shouldn't but sometimes it it
19:27
is
19:43
and pretty soon uh probably sometime next week uh we're going to spend a lot of time on this table
19:50
upholstering uh we got a lot of stuff to
19:57
upholster
20:03
see so we got 16 now there's an edge on these this
20:10
Edge is about an inch and a half and so we don't want to measure from this we
20:17
want to measure an inch and a half in so if we need 16 we really need to go
20:22
to 17 and A2 and go to 17 and A2 and then
20:28
uh make our cut but then if you get to the middle
20:34
you can just cut it at your
20:52
16 yeah there just like this Edge that uh you don't want to
20:57
use it doesn't have that special backing that uh helps the adhesive not to go
21:02
through it all the way so you just want to be mindful of
21:13
that it should be pretty easy to notice because it just it doesn't it's a part of the fabric that doesn't look
21:27
good
22:30
now obviously this is not perfect I've oversized this so I can make sure that I have enough when I'm working around
22:37
stuff in the
22:56
van
23:56
for
24:48
come
24:56
on
25:20
okay so now we got our two panels our driver and passenger
25:26
side
25:38
go ahead and bring this into the
25:56
van
26:14
okay so this part right here this is
26:19
our just a paint in the butt
26:26
piece we got to take care of it or this part
26:33
of the van is going to look really weird won't look nice
26:40
so okay so now just going
26:47
to this laid into
26:56
place
27:06
this isn't perfect I'm just getting this
27:15
started and if you have a magnet it's going to help you out with
27:25
uh getting this to to work right with you now the bottom is going to be really
27:32
easy the top is going to be very challenging because we have a surface where the folds here and you may not see
27:39
this on camera I'll move it in a second but these folds are kind of converging in on each other and so we may have
27:46
to uh just really take our time to get that
27:52
right uh so now what I'm going to do I'm going to take a permanent marker and I need to mark
27:58
on the inside here uh where our uh rivets are supposed to
28:08
go that way I don't lose uh where to cut the hole out so
28:16
it's just a visual indicator so anything in here that should be a visual indicator just go ahead and start
28:21
marking with your marker um so that you don't upulse over it and
28:28
then you're left figuring out you know what you're going to do about it uh when you're in the midst
28:35
of uh upholster in
28:49
it and then I've also got arrows telling me where I need to make sure I cut out
28:54
the material for the uh these side panels so this panel is going to go like
29:00
that and I just need to cut it
29:07
out yeah but definitely take your time on this
29:15
part yeah and with this hanging I'm probably going to start at the bottom and work my way up that way uh I got
29:23
more forgiveness at the top than I do in the bottom here because this bottom needs to be straight and go straight
29:29
up um yes so that's what I'm going to do
29:42
here and then I have to keep in mind that I'm going to need to
29:47
actually have my scissors ready and razor so I can cut and move things
29:55
around um okay so everything looks good so far for our
30:02
start so I'm going to get the plastic and get going
30:19
here so I'm going to do a couple pieces of plastic I just have one that I've been kind of reusing and this one is
30:27
going to be uh just for the bottom area I can tuck around all the
30:34
sides and then we'll have a panel that goes uh a higher panel and that's going
30:41
to allow me to uh cover up the the dash so if
30:49
anything blows out that adhesive
30:55
then it's not going to get onto
31:26
anything
32:51
definitely don't want to get on the seat Bel that would suck
33:05
the seat belt's a little bit of a challenging area because you got to you don't want to get on the seat Bel
33:10
but you need to get adhesive right here on this uh
33:25
post and then we're also going to have to take this off so
33:32
just pull that at my phone so I can make sure you guys can see what I'm talking
33:41
about oh yeah that camera angle looks
33:54
good so just take this in the middle and just pull uh it's good to have gloves on because
34:00
Ford has this tar stuff that just stinks to get on
34:06
your hands um so we're just going to pull it off
34:12
and leave it right like that so yeah this stuff is is
34:19
nasty um if we get anything on stuff we don't want to uh we can just use
34:25
denatured alcohol but if you've never done this before
34:30
I suggest that you tape off
34:52
everything and one thing I'm making sure that I tape off is the rubber mat
34:59
cuz we need to treat our rubber mat on the bottom of the van as almost like a a piece of carpet
35:06
because that is uh uh we won't be hiding that that'll be
35:14
exposed as the front
35:25
floor
36:36
okay that's about all we need there the next what we're going to do is
36:42
just we'll have a big uh screen or just piece of
36:55
plastic
37:25
for
37:55
for
39:25
for
40:19
yeah typically you would not want to upholster in the
40:24
van but for obvious reasons this is uh where we have to be upholstering
40:45
this we're only coming in about an inch and a half
40:52
so we've got we definitely have enough you know wiggle room for
40:59
um so that we're actually not having to spray all the way in in
41:25
here
41:33
I'm used to this handle being right here at the door and I've about falling falling out of this van ever since I
41:40
took this handle out to uh get ready to uphols through this
41:47
so hopefully I don't fall out of the van this
41:52
time all right that line is right there so what I
41:57
did here I'll show you in one second let me get this
42:05
tape um I traced I had to trace a line
42:25
out
43:25
for
43:46
uh sometimes if you need some extra attention just throw a tool in there it'll help keep
43:51
everything held down so you don't accidentally move it
43:58
all right let's see how we're doing make sure there's no
44:21
openings sometimes this can blow up so just you know from the pressure the can
44:26
so just tape it down okay so we got everything taped
44:33
up um if you have any slack in the plast you have any slack in the plastic
44:40
what you'll need to do is um just come up here tighten it
44:47
up put a piece of tape on it just like
44:54
that all
45:04
right so let's go ahead and move to the next part we're going to get our spray
45:10
in and start working from the bottom and coming up to the
45:24
top
45:39
we also need to get a pair of gloves that's going to help us out with making
45:45
sure this doesn't get all over our
45:54
hands
46:28
all right let me double check the camera angle here because we're going to work on the left side
46:52
first see we're zoomed all the way out and looks like we're GNA cap capture
47:13
everything so that magnet up top really helps with the
47:19
uh uh keeping everything nice and Center as we do this first first piece uh I do
47:25
need to go back and get
47:33
my scissors and
47:54
razor
48:24
okay
48:54
for
49:23
so before I get ahead of myself I actually need to get this foil tape on
49:39
here couple things that F tape does is it uh helps
49:44
me not spray all the adhesive down into here which doesn't really matter for this application
49:50
but um if you can imagine that's just a place for cold air to come in and out
49:56
and although it's little you know if you cover up 51 in holes just think about how much uh air
50:05
you've stopped the movement of plus moisture as
50:23
well and if you forget where these holes are you can see
50:30
they're right there now this can be mounted this way or this way but these
50:36
two holes we need to make sure that we keep uh open and the rest of them we
50:42
can close
50:54
up
51:03
we don't want to close up our our inside ones for our plastic panels
51:24
obviously
51:30
I would move the carpet so you guys could the upholstery so you could see it but I've already got I've already got
51:35
the magnet where I wanted so we'll have to see it in a
51:54
minute
52:04
okay we got one more small hole and we can get to
52:21
work all right so if you can see we've got
52:26
all these holes taped off this bottom one here that you see
52:32
it's already taped off so um and then what I've done is I've taken a permanent
52:37
marker and I've just I've outlined where I need to make sure that I actually do
52:43
have adhesive the rest I can cut off the excess same as here for this panel I'm
52:48
coming in about 2 in and then the top this black line is showing me um that's
52:55
I need to make sure I'm at least you know an inch in so that when I pulser the foam piece and it seats up against
53:02
it there won't be a gap so again I don't need this much material but you can
53:08
always cut Material
53:15
off and depending on what van you have you know this is a brand new van so there's really no reason to I've already
53:22
wiped this down and blew it off so this it's it's
53:28
clean um but we're going to start from the bottom and we're going to start in the this
53:35
uh get this mid this Notch going to get this Notch area in
53:41
first just like that so it looks like we're going to start right here where my hand is and then kind of make our
53:50
way down like that and then we'll kind of work our way uh
54:16
outside I'm laying a nice inner uh
54:24
spray then I'm going to come and kind of fan
54:40
out to my you know one inch inch and a
54:54
half
55:08
the good thing about this is um this is going to stick extremely
55:13
well because it's a metal surface now if
55:18
you'd watch other streams where I do the upholstery it can be a challenge because
55:24
the wood if you don't seal it can absorb a lot of
55:30
the uh a lot of the uh what am I'm trying to
55:35
say adhesive and it makes it more of a challenge to
55:41
actually uh get it
55:54
installed
56:03
so we just need to wait uh a
56:13
minute let this off
56:23
gas
56:39
okay I'm let going to do one light
56:45
spray be my last time spraying
56:53
this
56:59
okay so I actually need to grab so while that's setting up I need
57:04
to grab my uh upholstery tool so I can get it in those
57:23
corners
57:33
this is actually not an upholstery tool this is a
57:38
panel panel tool like
57:53
that just counting waiting
58:23
game all right we'll do one
58:30
more really take our time
58:53
to
59:53
for
1:00:43
all right let's see see how we're looking
1:00:48
here so this is good this actually needs to dry just a little bit
1:00:53
more okay so the Metal's perfect we got a really perfect coat on the
1:01:08
metal so we just need this to tack
1:01:13
up that's actually pretty good okay now if you really mess up
1:01:21
technically you can pull this back um our pain in the butt is going to be
1:01:29
this uh plastic and I don't want to take it off CU I still need to spray the
1:01:35
top but we're making sure that our line up here this is the furthest spot our
1:01:40
fabric needs to go out and then down here at the bottom we've got it nice and lined up so that when we come in here
1:01:49
to uh actually seat this in here
1:01:55
here we going to it's going to be exactly what we
1:02:12
want okay we're just placing nice and easy
1:02:19
we're not doing a hard press CU in case we need to
1:02:26
adjust we get one more shot at
1:02:53
adjusting
1:03:09
so this side went in a little bit more than I thought it would because I I now know I didn't want to mess that part up
1:03:16
so we actually need to get a little bit more adhesive
1:03:22
on our piece right here
1:03:52
okay so just need to let that hang out here for a
1:03:58
second so while that's hanging out we know there's our inside good so we can
1:04:05
start getting that push
1:04:11
down just need to hold this out for a
1:04:23
minute
1:04:35
okay right that's
1:04:53
good
1:05:23
that
1:06:53
now
1:07:01
so down here uh I need to come out another couple inches um when I measure
1:07:08
this for the 16 I took in account this and this Bend here but this part came out a little more than I expected but
1:07:16
what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you how to make a triangle flap piece here um that's right on that edge
1:07:23
and it'll look like a nice clean transition so if you've gotten to an area to where you haven't put enough
1:07:28
material um you can uh make it
1:07:41
work so all right now we're going to move our magnet out of the way and we're going to
1:07:48
start getting this section here nice and
1:08:03
tacky this magnet is super strong uh let's see that'll hold
1:08:12
there so our next part is going to be
1:08:19
this so that actually needs to go back
1:08:37
if you see your nozzle start coming up go ahead and wipe that off because it's going to mess you up later all right so now we're just going
1:08:47
to through here
1:09:33
okay so now we're going to go back and get us a square to cut out here so we
1:09:38
can um repair that
1:09:52
edge
1:10:20
so what we're going to do is we're we got to really good amount of adhesive on here so we're going to take
1:10:27
this and that will be we will seam that right there and then uh the both of
1:10:35
these will kind of become one and then we'll fold it we'll fold it on
1:10:41
over so let me cut this excess off
1:10:49
here so that'll get me around the corner and then the trick is to make a
1:10:55
repair like that this Edge is where you need to get the most of your uh adhesive
1:11:02
sprayed onto so we definitely get at the
1:11:08
bottom um we're going to do a couple passes
1:11:22
here
1:11:39
okay so we'll let this air
1:11:52
off
1:12:05
make sure you definitely get some of that Notch um yeah I'm going to fix the
1:12:11
bottom and then I'll move the camera we can finish the
1:12:22
top
1:12:47
so while that's uh off gassing I'm going to go ahead and start to roll this corner
1:13:14
over and I'm just trim it a little by little CU I need to find out
1:13:19
where I can actually make that fold
1:14:24
okay so this piece is now now ready looks
1:14:33
good actually we're going to hit it one more
1:14:44
time really need to make sure that that's got adhesive on it so in the meantime we're going to go
1:14:51
and just get this now we want to give a tug while we're pushing it
1:15:22
down
1:15:49
all right this piece is ready to go
1:15:55
yeah you guys can see that pretty good we're going to put this down here
1:16:01
and we're going to focus on our seam Edge only cuz that is what we want
1:16:08
to visually make sure we do
1:16:22
correctly and then we just want to follow it
1:16:30
up just like
1:16:52
that
1:16:57
okay and see that's perfect that is
1:17:04
perfect all right got our bottom done let me move the top I mean the bot good
1:17:10
Lord move the camera up and we'll finish this next part is going
1:17:16
to be uh pretty
1:17:22
tricky
1:17:50
and once you got enough glue on your gloves you're going to just want to make sure you change your
1:17:58
gloves cuz you're going to get it on the fabric then it's just not going to be
1:18:03
it's not going to be pro pro
1:18:11
level we only do pro level
1:18:20
here all right
1:18:26
now the tricky part let's
1:18:31
get so the reason this is hard is because we have material converging it's it's
1:18:37
coming together so we want to really take our
1:18:43
time and uh really get this uh the deeper
1:18:49
part is what we're going to do first
1:19:06
okay and I've I feel the tackiness gone away so I completely made this up it might
1:19:14
not be true but what I'm doing is what I call kind of
1:19:21
reactivating the adhesive so it's just a light spray on
1:19:28
the fabric it just kind of I know I just
1:19:34
made it up I think it wakes it up there you
1:19:41
go we have any any professional pulsers out there let me
1:19:46
know if that's a I made that up or if that's actually like a thing
1:19:53
okay so looks like ah no it's actually holding pretty
1:20:01
good so this is very resilient fabric so
1:20:07
I'm going to be pretty aggressive with it in this
1:20:13
uh trying to get this middle
1:20:18
part the way I want it to be
1:20:31
I can already see places that I need to stretch
1:20:51
this
1:21:21
for
1:21:30
so I'm keeping tension on this middle part kind of giving me
1:21:36
a kind of helping it roll in to place but I got to be careful that I'm
1:21:43
not getting too comfortable and I'm keeping this
1:21:51
taunt cuz if you too comfortable it's going to make this really terrible
1:21:58
crease and then everybody's going to see the crease and I don't want to see the
1:22:09
crease so to get rid of the crease just keep it tight all right now this part
1:22:17
is I don't have to worry about this because this is behind the panel but
1:22:24
but uh just kind
1:22:30
of getting it as best I can it's always good to practice makes perfect
1:22:37
so way if I get into a scenario like this again I'll actually be able
1:22:45
to knock it
1:22:51
out
1:22:57
so right here is where my panel comes in this panel covers up all of this so this
1:23:04
is but it's nice to have this to pull to make sure you get this uh uh make this look right and then
1:23:13
we're always kind of doing like a center line thing so like from the center out and then like from here this is this Arc
1:23:20
so this is my center and so so I'm just going to pull it like
1:23:25
that when it does this like rolling action it's actually it's a really good thing
1:23:33
because it helps it Go and stay where it needs to
1:23:44
stay be careful all this sheet metal
1:23:49
shards now one thing you will have to do is you will have to take a razor and get
1:23:56
these ripples out or because it's going to hold your it's going to make your panel
1:24:03
lumpy um so
1:24:21
yeah
1:24:29
okay all right so that's our corner so let's go ahead and get this cleaned up
1:24:37
here so get this away from our so now's the now's the clean up part
1:24:44
this is where this is the satisfying
1:24:51
part
1:24:57
I'll do this up here since you guys can it's where you can see me at the current
1:25:21
moment
1:25:49
the way I'm cutting this is I'm pulling it back off from the van so we don't cut into the van with the
1:25:57
razor so it might look I'm like I'm cutting into the van but I'm I'm pulling it
1:26:12
back all right remember this is our this is where our seam is this is all
1:26:19
covered looks good so let's go to wide angle
1:26:27
shot I might have to stop this stream a little early cuz I'm kind of
1:26:47
hungry okay all right
1:27:04
okay we're not spraying over here anymore so let's get this plastic off of
1:27:11
here before most of it becomes part of our
1:27:21
upholstery
1:27:31
so this part here I'm going to keep it pretty
1:27:37
loose because I want to hide it
1:27:42
uh around this uh airbag
1:27:51
area
1:28:02
whatever you do don't get near the
1:28:10
airbag I mean you're going to be near it but don't don't scratch
1:28:18
it and all I'm doing here is I'm just cutting reliefs into the material the
1:28:34
fabric I'm going leave this little wing here because I want it to
1:28:39
conceal this blue part of the airbag is I kind of saw this from the foam
1:28:50
piece a little bit more more of relief there you
1:29:09
go so that's going to go up underneath the airbag and then this little flap is
1:29:15
just going to Loosely go here and it's going to hide this uh there's a little
1:29:20
reveal right here
1:29:33
so then right
1:29:50
here
1:29:56
again I'm pulling the fabric out I'm not
1:30:05
cutting the
1:30:20
van
1:30:38
I'm just making sure that when I get to these uh Parts where the snaps come in that I give it enough room to grab onto the snap and not keep
1:30:47
it from the body panel actually snapping in
1:31:24
be very careful around the seat belt don't cut the seat
1:31:40
belt then we just come back in and if there's any type of stickiness left there shouldn't be
1:31:46
too much but we just need to rub that in and then that's going to
1:31:53
pretty much do it for this side that was not not too
1:32:01
bad so down here at the bottom let's finish up this
1:32:09
piece um if you need to get your blade sharpened you may already know this but just get it to the next line and then
1:32:16
cover it with your hand push down and it's going to give you a new Cutting
1:32:50
Edge
1:33:02
all right that looks excellent
1:33:16
um this flap so need to get to these two screw
1:33:22
holes
1:33:50
here
1:34:02
all right we'll actually be putting a strip of upholstery here um
1:34:08
so but yeah that that's this corner so however long that took it's pretty much
1:34:14
how long the other side is going to take um I might do that one off camera just because I'm going to grab some food real
1:34:20
quick but yeah if you guys have any questionss we'll be doing a live stream later today
1:34:26
um make sure you guys don't forget to check out the DIY van build cheat sheet uh it's completely free it's all my
1:34:33
Amazon purchases over the last three years for the shop so I think it's really helpful for you guys if you are building the van and you need to find
1:34:38
some tools um you know what pause that
1:34:44
pause I'm going to put these rib nuts in here that's
1:34:50
a I forgot I will do that really quick for
1:34:56
you guys after that we will but this right here this
1:35:02
piece fits fits on the drill oh yeah don't use a drill with glovs on super dangerous but this fits on the
1:35:10
end of a drill these Riv nuts or these little nut inserts that are threaded so
1:35:18
they're like a rivet but they're uh they have a threaded part on the inside and so what you're going to do is you're
1:35:24
going to put this in the drill chuck it up use a regular drill do not use an
1:35:33
impact impact drill or a hammer drill um because you really need you
1:35:40
need the feedback of a like a positive uh what am I trying to
1:35:50
say all right they got fancy here this is
1:35:56
the wrong thread
1:36:03
pitch okay I thought they used the correct
1:36:11
rage so this gun I'm have to change it out right now but this gun uses uh
1:36:17
different tips so I need to change the tip out because the 58-1 16 that I normally use this is
1:36:25
not 5/81
1:36:30
16 it's something different so this
1:36:36
is all right this is what are they
1:36:43
using M8 they're using
1:36:49
metric that's okay that makes
1:36:57
sense all right guys don't leave me yet I'm going show you how to do this real
1:37:15
quick it's very easy to change the tips on these so they give
1:37:21
you a set it's got like 10 or 12 different settings okay so the first thing we're
1:37:27
going to do is we're going to take our razor and
1:37:33
we got our line so we got a line here and a line here Zoom the camera in real
1:37:42
quick you guys
1:37:50
some okay give me a second let
1:37:56
me get the camera straightened
1:38:10
up
1:38:20
perfect
1:38:29
okay we're going to take a razor let's open up our holes so right here we see we
1:38:35
have our permanent marker right here with our hole so we can go through here and then we can find where that
1:38:43
indents and then we're just going to cut an X and then we're going to come down here
1:38:49
to this one find out where it indents same thing just cut out a little
1:38:55
X you may need to cut out a little bit more because this Marathon fabric is
1:39:01
extremely durable resilient has Teflon fibers in it actually
1:39:07
so or so I'm told okay and then we got this
1:39:12
piece so we've screwed this on so this is what it looks like by itself we
1:39:19
screwed it on here then we've taken our drill and we've unscrewed it where it kind of pops and then we're
1:39:26
going to just drill it okay right where it catches the
1:39:32
screw now we're going to hold this and then we're going to set our drill
1:39:38
um we're going to lock the drill so we don't have a clutch action and we really need to feel we need to feel this
1:39:45
mushroom uh on the inside so so first let's just put it in
1:39:56
here and it's going to be extremely tight for we might actually have to
1:40:01
cut kind of round the fabric out just a little
1:40:10
bit okay so there we go now we're going to come in and hold
1:40:15
it okay you see where it went high and then low right when it went low we want to stop
1:40:22
because that is we've mushroomed it and then we want to hit reverse and then just
1:40:32
gently unscrew and come back out if you go in too hard you end up
1:40:39
uh warping the threads on the inside and it's going to be you'll waste the whole
1:40:46
insert and then if you come out um too fast it's going to
1:40:51
uh it might catch or uh mess this drill thing up so take a
1:41:00
test piece like the piece of metal that a piece of sheet metal that you um cut out the top of your van for like a Max
1:41:07
fan drill a bunch of holes in it play around with it first uh before you do
1:41:12
something like this to where uh there's really no going back um if you can imagine so just
1:41:19
listen so see how it just stops and I'm barely pulling the
1:41:25
trigger um so
1:41:31
that's that's it mushrooming in mushrooming in place um okay so that one's good and
1:41:39
that one's good so now we can just take our our plate and there's a different
1:41:46
set of bolts for this one because uh um it's a different
1:41:57
size uh we're just going to put it in the lower position for right now I'm going to have to take this back off but
1:42:02
I'm just going to put it on here for you
1:42:08
guys but you can
1:42:19
see
1:42:32
okay now we're just we just hand tightened it that's all we did and this is already very
1:42:39
strong so that's why you need to get this all upholstered get the rib nuts
1:42:46
get this all done before the panels go it's everything in the van is about layers
1:42:51
and uh this is just one of them so now we'll be able to take
1:42:58
our uh side piece over here for the bottom
1:43:03
we can move it back into place just going to do this temporarily
1:43:09
so you guys can
1:43:17
see but as soon as you start getting further in the
1:43:25
van you know all this is going to come together it's going to all start to come
1:43:31
together and it's going to look very clean and very
1:43:47
professional all right guys that's it make sure sure you guys are subscribe like this video If you enjoyed it share
1:43:53
this video to anybody who is working on this type of thing on their van and may need some help um we'll see you later in
1:44:01
this afternoon's live stream when we clean this up we kind of move from the back um I want to get this ecoflow cable
1:44:08
put in and I want to get this first section of the floor glued in place um
1:44:13
so that's pretty much our next step so look out for that get that notification
1:44:19
Bell on so you know when I'm coming live and we'll see you guys in the next live
