guys welcome to the Late Night Live stream some of you guys
0:05
know kind a night hour I like to work late and uh everything's quiet it's kind
0:11
my creative time in the shop um when I can work late and uh guess what delivery is
0:18
Saturday so we are knocking it out good news is the
0:24
water tank all the electrical the LED lights everything's wired up pressure t
0:30
tested ready to go so whole water system done side panel done installed top panel
0:37
going to do right now because um to be honest I don't have time to film edit and kind of update you
0:44
guys it's just easier to go live when I'm actually doing it live um so we're doing it
0:51
live uh but I just wanted to go over my thoughts while I'm doing this because this is a really if you want your van to
0:58
look really nice and custom um and you don't want it so
1:03
cookie cutter I do this method right here because it's what I see in my head
1:09
it's what I want this to look like um but a side effect of this is if you are
1:14
doing a van and you don't want to have uh like a
1:19
nasty you know like a cheap water hookup connection for your
1:26
really expensive Van um it's just random I have this over on the Shelf I have a
1:32
lot of stuff in the shop that I bought and I'm just like man that's garbage um but I keep it in the shop uh in case I
1:38
want to put it on my personal Vin so but this right here is uh hot and
1:44
cold water you see this in a lot of RVs now if you have one of these or you're doing a DIY this is not bad this is
1:51
completely fine to use but if you're doing a high if you do high-end bills like I do I would I would never put this
1:59
in somebody's van so what we're putting in this van uh you
2:05
might have seen it it's the scandic valve um it is from uh Titan Vans DIY
2:11
sells it and then they change their name to Timber DIY van kits or Timber
2:18
Vans anyway um that scandic valve uh
2:24
it's very nice um it is expensive this whole little kit over here on the left side's like 350 bucks and then over here
2:32
you got your aore system and your disconnect switch and this if you wanted
2:37
to buy it the aquar is almost about $90 for the unit you know so maybe this and the
2:44
plate like $1 120 bucks so you know you have some controls here um without
2:51
Plumbing or anything is costing you about $500 but it's just it fits the
2:59
style of van that I like to build and it's durable it's powerder coated um
3:05
it's going to stand the test of time for example but it's also very minimal so
3:11
when we do these two cutouts here this is going to be recessed be nice and
3:16
minimal we got a waterproof switch we have our water fill if we get any drips
3:22
in here you know we can take a rag and just clean it out it's not going to go on our carpet um or our Upholstery and
3:29
it's just it's just neat it's like I just like the way I like to do it um so what I've done is this panel
3:36
has been done for a long time it's what been covering up the tank at shows and stuff like that U but now it's time to
3:41
actually go in here and meticulously measure uh all of this so that we can
3:48
get these plates put in here I wait
3:54
to not the last minute but I wait till the end of the whole entire plumbing and everything because
4:01
sometimes when you're doing Plumbing in your van something will shift or some valve will be in the way and even though
4:07
you plan to run this way and you plan something to come over here the way it interacts with the 820 or the panel or
4:15
uh the way you want to do the run of peex uh it's always kind of moving this
4:21
to where it wants to go because once the PEX comes down this comes out there's a 90° PEX
4:29
but I need to make make sure that everything kind of lands and to make this look clean there's a lot of
4:35
planning that goes on behind the scenes under here to make everything look nice and clean so this is actually the easy
4:41
part I'm just cutting out two holes popping this in and then hooking this up together so you know by the end of this
4:49
video this whole thing will be done um and then that'll be pretty much it
4:55
the thing that we're doing tomorrow with the van is we're going through like some testing trials I call it so we've
5:02
depleted the batteries um we're going to run the second alternator we're going to double check the Soler um we're going to
5:09
clean the van wash the van do all that stuff get it prepped for Saturday um but yes this this is just
5:18
the stuff I'm doing right now so um other than me rambling on about
5:23
all this good stuff uh let me show you my thought process on how to do this get you some examples
5:37
so when I build these frames uh I love 8020 I typically do a lot of stuff out
5:43
of 8020 but also um also I do uh let me back this camera
5:51
up just a little bit
6:09
all right so typically I build a lot of stuff with 820 and so you can kind of see here
6:15
where the tape is this is kind of identifying where that 8020 is and it's kind of it's the place I'm not able to
6:22
go with the cutout um now there's a lip on here so
6:28
you can see I can actually since this gives a half inch higher I can actually come over this just slightly so that's
6:34
kind of what what's going on so that's kind of why this tape is taped out the way it is
6:41
um so once I do that I go through the next step is I'm going to take this
6:48
piece and I start measuring the footprint so the sunken footprint which
6:53
is the widest place that's going to go down into the panel so that'll inset
6:59
and then once I measure that I'll come through here and I'll just double check so we've got uh let's see one one two 3
7:06
four five8 so five and 58 wide by 3 and
7:13
3/4 and so you just verify that um and so you want to cut out so this
7:21
one is yeah three and 3/4 just triple checking my work
7:31
okay uh only downside of using these is you want it to be exact because if I take
7:37
this and I bring it here this radius right here I don't want
7:43
to cut it perfect because if I cut it too close my hole to actually grab some wood
7:50
when I bolt it down is going to be gone um I learned that the hard way on other
7:56
build I did so what I do to make this radius happen is this radius is at the
8:02
top of A4 and a quar so I'll come in
8:07
here and uh I'm going to cut out the fabric first and peill it the Upholstery
8:14
and then I'll come back in here a quarter of quarter and I'll put a little Dot and then I'm using a what size is
8:24
this 33 64s doesn't matter it going be a/ inch and then just coming down here
8:30
on the side and I'm doing a drill so I'm drilling four holes and the drill bit will actually give me the radius that I
8:38
want um without taking the extra material out and then I'll do that and then I'll
8:44
actually take the jigsa and then cut this out um but the first thing you want to do is score you want to score the uh
8:53
the carpet so we're just going to score the carpet here
9:08
so we want it to
9:13
actually um these have teon fibers in this Marathon Fabric
9:22
and if you catch it with a drill or a
9:27
jigsaw there's so tough that they'll they'll pull from the whole entire thing
9:34
so you just want to if you can get them cut out uh then I would
9:42
recommend you do that now he's a really good adhesive on here so it's possible that not all this
9:49
is going to come out CLE cleanly Rec clean but we do want we just want to
9:55
take our time uh we don't want it to fray at all
10:01
we only want it to be picked up where we are pulling it
10:07
up if you guys want some upholstery videos I have a ton of them on Van HQ
10:12
the YouTube channel that you guys are watching now just search Upholstery and you'll
10:18
see BU of videos come up so see we've pulled this adhesive off and now we've got this opened up and
10:26
then so I'm going to come into here um and where it was a quarter and a
10:35
quarter I'll make a little Dot and then uh that
10:41
is pretty much
10:48
uh if I can leave that area like that I just want to match uh that
10:56
radius doesn't have to be perfect but like I'll make a little corner there and then that way I know to keep the drill
11:03
bit on the inside and if it doesn't fit I can just take the jigsaw and I can take some material
11:09
out um but I've you know I'm just going to visually do this I've already I got
11:14
an idea of how much I want to keep in there so we'll do this one quick um and
11:22
then we'll keep on going I'm not sure how loud this is going to be on the camera oh the drill won't be loud
11:31
the uh jigsa is going to be
11:39
[Music] loud and this is a terrible drill
11:57
bit actually I'm going try to see if I can use this guy
12:15
[Music]
12:34
all right we got one
13:02
so yeah this forcer bit is actually the tool for the job
13:49
[Music]
13:59
oh
14:20
[Music]
14:25
[Music] [Applause]
14:55
[Music] a
15:04
[Music]
15:19
[Music]
15:38
[Music]
15:49
oh my batteries are dead I've been working on this stuff like crazy
16:01
okay so we got our jigsaw um we got to keep in mind that we moved this line I
16:06
don't know if you can see it here let come on
16:13
down so we just drilled that out this line right here we had to make an adjustment to our tape marks the tape
16:19
marks are perfect over here this one uh I just added a little bit extra
16:26
it does make a difference when you're trying to you try to keep as much material for the
16:32
screws to bite into um it just makes it a better install
16:42
[Music]
16:55
[Music]
17:10
[Music]
17:19
[Music]
17:35
[Music]
17:43
so I'll probably definitely have to modify this corner here my gut is
17:49
telling me that so let's see
17:57
here all right pretty tight [Music]
18:07
so so the left and right side is okay I mean the right side we need to take some
18:12
more material out of the right side
18:23
[Music]
18:55
very close you just got to figure out where this thing is
19:05
grabbing and believe it or not we're actually going to use a sanding
19:24
wheel these corners
20:05
[Music]
21:14
is [Music]
21:19
[Applause]
21:27
[Music]
21:33
[Applause]
21:47
Perfection all right so that one's perfect now we just got a
21:53
copy to the other side over here um so this other
22:00
side I'm going to I need
22:10
to I'm going stay over here my measurements I think I need to
22:17
go wider to match this so that's 5 and 3/4
22:29
actually this one must have been five and 3/4 and then this one over
22:35
here is five it's more than that
22:46
interesting let's see let's do
23:15
okay so this one we're going to come in to five and 3/4
23:54
so this one came out to five 16th less than 5 and 3/4 and this going
24:01
to be five just going to be 5 and 3/4 and this seems like it's OCD but the
24:09
thing is it's these Corners it's you you got to have that bite down and you got to
24:15
have enough wood so if I did this and I take out my marker I'm just going to trace these
24:21
holes
24:36
and so you see if you accidentally cut the jigsaw onto this corner here all the
24:42
way to the corner you're going to blow out your hole that you actually Mount the these plates on and it's not going
24:49
to be good cuz you're going to have to redo this whole panel and that's just bunch of waste of time um I know it's
24:55
late guys but I mean if you want to ask questions you and free to uh ask
25:03
away all right we got our width double check our height 5 and 3/4 I mean 3 and
25:09
3/4 3 and 3/4 all right good to go so now we'll do our same
25:18
technique find my Razor
25:32
the for get guys the D the uh blueprint van conversion course that I'm designing
25:39
is launching October 1st uh but if you pre-order so if you
25:45
buy the course today there's a savings um you can save 50 bucks off the
25:53
course or if it's 100 bucks
25:59
I should have double checked it I think it's $100
26:14
off okay again this is that special super
26:20
tough Marathon fabric so we need to make sure that we really have a nice clean
26:25
cut uh so this does not catch Fray
26:31
we cut this out with the
26:41
jigsaw going to come in here get some visual justification marks for our forer
26:48
bit
27:03
actually got some people watching that's pretty nice and for you guys just joining I'm
27:10
pretty much recording this cuz we got delivery this weekend and don't really have time to film so I'm
27:18
just going live [Music]
27:38
[Music]
28:23
[Music]
28:43
[Music]
28:58
oh
29:06
[Music]
29:27
[Music]
29:46
[Music]
30:09
[Music]
30:22
[Music]
30:27
for
31:26
look at that like a glove first time perfect perfect
31:35
perfect all right so mental note I want to make sure that the spacing
31:46
here measured this earlier I just want to
31:54
verify so 2 and2 in
32:00
two and a quter I guess I move it over a little bit one inch
32:08
spacing inch and 3/4 on this side that's
32:17
perfect okay all right so you guys get to see this live which is pretty nice we got
32:24
all these cut out um we're just going to come through and and let do a little bit of clean up
32:29
on our stuff underneath
32:36
um not too much we just don't want anything flapping down or hanging down uh so right here everything is good
32:44
to go I'm going to take this and I'm going
32:52
to uh I'll bring you guys over to the van in a second but we will
33:03
put this panel in uh the next thing is we had this shift over about an eighth of an inch so
33:11
I have not drilled the holes in this top to bolt it to the 8020 um because I need to find out what
33:17
my overhang is and then I'm going to measure that offset so what I'm
33:23
talking about is this overhang is going to be over like probably an eighth of in like that and I just want to double
33:28
check the hole because the hole placement on the panel there's going to be six holes that bolt this down they
33:35
have to be perfect um so uh that's just going to take a little
33:41
bit of time but yeah that's my goal tonight is just this was the last thing to get knocked off the list before uh
33:47
what I have to do tomorrow so yeah I'm going to take this
33:52
over to the van and then I'm move the camera if you guys want to stay with me a minute
34:26
for
34:56
for
35:26
for
35:56
for
36:26
for
36:56
for for
37:37
all right didn't forget about you I just need to uh set that up over
37:42
here three people still on the stream who's
37:47
uh yeah I can't play any Jeopardy music sorry guys you're at the mercy of
37:54
no editing this is just all live
38:01
all right back in the back of the van here we are I think is looking good like
38:07
I said we got the side panel in so what we're doing right now is we're just neing everything back up the reason
38:16
it took me a minute is I goofed a little bit and the lines
38:21
were pressurized right back here when I was the the pumps off it's just they
38:26
were still residual pressure cuz I was pressure testing the system so it's been pressurized all day no leaks looking
38:34
great um the interesting thing about this design I always try to keep things as
38:41
comp Compact and like pushed to the side so you has much storage space in the van um so for this one the little cork was
38:48
all the lines filling finding coming to the back had to be ran on the top so
38:54
this right here this piece of aluminum uh believe it or not this this is actually the uh this is the blue LEDs
39:02
that make the tank glow and then there's a panel uh that
39:08
I'll finish tomorrow uh it's this one right here and so this panel what we're going
39:14
to do is we're going to cut uh we're essentially going to reupholster this uh but this goes into
39:22
here uh we're going to cut a hole an oval so it'll be from here all the way
39:28
down here um so down here if you guys can see
39:33
that is
39:40
a Riv nutting camera views riveting camera Riv nutting camera views that's
39:47
hilarious you guys are funny um this is pretty cool this is an adjustable piece of 8020 that keeps
39:55
pressure on the back of the tank so that it doesn't move back and forth so I have
40:01
one here um and then I have one in front of the hot water tank pushing it this
40:06
way and so what that does is that's just going to keep it uh in place um and then
40:15
obviously you know it's got a lid but yeah so from here up to right below
40:20
these is where that little window is going to be um then when we turn the power on to the pump you'll have a
40:27
standby switch so when the pump is on this will glow blue and when the pump is
40:33
off the light will turn off all right so this is this is what
40:40
we're trying to figure out how well we did so this is where I get to grade
40:46
myself on the uh the fitment
40:55
here okay so that's looking good so now we have these two openings
41:03
uh we got clearance got everything here looks good keep this covered got some
41:12
drips all right the first thing this is that Titan Vans part that we were talking about earlier um why is that
41:22
so my camera's like foggy
41:34
all right let's try
41:40
that there we go good question I do not threadlock the
41:49
8020 joints um when you're building a van and then in the future if you need to disassemble stuff the problem with
41:56
the uh these all all the stainless still Hardware is sometimes it's kind of
42:02
soft and I found that if I locktite it I end up stripping the heads of these bolts
42:07
off um the lock washers on here we have stainless steel Hardware
42:14
into aluminum and the lock washer Believe It or Not cuts into the aluminum
42:20
and it makes it almost impossible to get out with no Loctite so as long as you torque this down appropriately
42:28
these are not coming out Thomas man was done like this um I think it have like a
42:34
little bit maybe two or three things in John and Susan's van that has a bracket like this Brian Robbins ver like this
42:43
um and I wouldn't do this if I didn't trust it
42:49
to uh not be loose but Thomas's van is doing great it's
42:54
almost man I think it's almost it's almost uh coming up on two and a half
43:00
years or three years on his so um that's pretty wild but yeah his is doing just
43:07
fine um but you don't have to locktite it I would not because if you need to get in here replace the tank or do
43:13
anything you're going to Shear off that aluminum head
43:19
uh it's just right there you're just it's I'm telling you just be
43:25
careful I I found no reason to locktite it now there is other things in this van
43:31
that I locktite because I'm never going back and they're not meant to be taken back apart this is this needs to be able
43:38
to take be taken apart in case you need to replace a tank or the hot water heater so yeah long story short uh no
43:46
locktite on these joints all right so this goes right down
43:53
in here okay it's fitting
44:02
excellent see here what am
44:26
I for
45:21
all right I think I got to come over an eighth of an inch on this one um believe
45:26
it or not it's so precise that this little washer here is just grabbing just ever soow
45:34
slightly so so I bet if I turn it this
45:41
way yeah just that washer on this side all right we'll take care of that
45:47
um let's get our other piece
46:11
cool Minnesota nice is that Minnesota or yeah
46:17
Minnesota um Transit Connect purchase middle of next week still deciding on
46:23
Direction Take out the build yeah Transit Connect those things are fun um I used to have a a DJ business or
46:29
wedding DJ business in Charleston South Carolina for a long time and I always thought about get a Transit Connect uh
46:36
because it was really easy to get in and out of the venue you know you load up all the DJ equipment uh was
46:43
fun all right so this is going to go here that one man that fits so
46:51
good so that one's great that one almost snapped in like a
46:58
glove um where is my valve take that out
47:27
this is another Quirk I can't change this is why you have to do this stuff
47:32
like at the end I can't change where this actually seated and finished
47:38
getting tight on here so this is now affecting where my placement at the top
47:45
of this is so my OCD wants me to have the name facing this way but uh you know
47:54
I have to have this 90 directly this this way because my I don't have any
48:00
room so that's going to go just like that so you see these two pieces here um
48:06
they're looking great this one is
48:11
just that one's just being a little Annoying CU yeah it's just that
48:17
it just an eighth of an inch man everything's eighth of an inch
48:23
so okay so this one looks good this one looks
48:30
good got our switch over here water fill this is our shower one so that'll
48:36
actually go in there nice
48:59
so just for just curious making sure that it's the lip and not the plate yeah
49:06
oh yeah yeah yeah yeah it's that washer
49:17
okay H nice um how did you decide which side to put the water
49:23
in um so it just happens
49:28
that water tank on the right side of the van is good is a good idea because if
49:36
the water tank is on the right side of the van your right door your van usually opens first without having to open the
49:42
latch at the left side so you can open one door without opening two doors to
49:48
access the water second the power system uh on a Ford Transit you're
49:55
typically coming from from the driver's seat even with a sprinter you're on the driver's side and the driver's side is
50:01
where usually the main power comes through and it can just make its way all the way to the back and the left side you don't have to do a
50:07
crossover um and then typical van layouts a lot of people really like the
50:13
kitchen Galley to be on the door side so that when you're washing your hands
50:19
cooking doing whatever you're able to look out the door and it doesn't feel so
50:24
you know claustrophobic um yeah so this van has uh 420 watts of
50:31
solar it's got two 100 watt uh Renegy panels and then it also has uh one uh
50:40
140 WT new power it sounds weird when I say it but um that's just the name of it it's
50:47
a it's not an Amazon brand but it's a it's a it's like a Chinese brand uh
50:55
panel but it has to do with the dimensions the dimensions of that 140 wat panel is exactly the amount of room
51:01
that I had left this also has a uh dedic RTX um 2000 AC unit got the max
51:11
fan and then over here on the power side this is the solar disconnect switches
51:18
main power ventilation stuff like that uh the van has 600 amp hours
51:24
of smart lithium from Renegy and uh I don't think there's
51:31
anything uh bad about Renegy just to be honest if anybody's wondering um there's
51:36
victron components in here uh the main system is the new Renegy Rego system
51:41
that's their offgrade system so everything's Bluetooth controlled via the M1 controller um which is kind of
51:47
like the victron connect but uh I I don't know it just I like the low
51:52
profess of it um what else uh so if you go to so my business is
51:59
Odyssey custom.com so Odyssey customs.com is my business for my customers van Builder HQ
52:07
is the the channel you're watching right now this is the educational channel so
52:12
you're watching me Odyssey custom vans build a customer build and then I'm I use the YouTube
52:19
channel to uh it's like a teaching tool you guys can watch what's going
52:25
on uh um so this uh so if you go to Odyssey
52:32
customs.com and you go to Thomas's build which is called Marine One or actually
52:37
if you go to Marine one vour and on this channel you'll find that he has a redar
52:43
red Vision system and the red arch red Vision system is
52:48
um uh it Bluetooth controls every switch in his van so he has he's got uh the red
52:54
Arc red Vision system which which is 10 Bluetooth
52:59
connections uh and then he also has the Garmin power switch that brings an
53:06
additional six Bluetooth controllable connections so 16 circuits in his van
53:11
all the circuits are controlled via his phone um so he's a disabled military veteran and so he has a wheelchair and a
53:19
lift that brings him into the van and we wanted to make sure that it was just super easy that if you know he forgot to
53:25
turn the lights on off or anything in the van he can do everything from his foam if he's out of the van he can control it if he's in the van he can
53:32
control it you know before he goes to bed that type of thing and uh so you can
53:37
go all the way Bluetooth if you want to or this van I just made
53:43
um uh before the current owners purchased this van uh my intent was to
53:48
make this uh very rugged off-road um you know just super super
53:55
strong 80 20 all the way and uh but I wanted it to be very simple because I actually didn't know who the the owner
54:02
would end up being I didn't want to make the uh we went way complex with Thomas' van
54:09
and super high-tech um but this van since I didn't know the customer that
54:14
was eventually going to purchase it I went really clean and simple so that any
54:20
age range would be able to feel comfortable in this van believe it or not this van has three switches they
54:27
control the interior lights the indirect lighting the exterior light so there's a three switch panel up on the top
54:34
here um so right there there's one switch to turn on the
54:40
inverter that turns on pretty much everything in the van um AC power wise there's a Bluetooth
54:48
controlled Webasto 3.0 uh smart temp uh gasoline fire adater
54:56
in the back we've just got a simple light switch for the power box we've got a simple onoff switch for the the water
55:03
and then uh tomorrow I'm going to finish the wiring up to a one switch water
55:09
heater on and off um so extreme just very simple um and
55:18
less complicated making uh just a lot better when you're out in the middle of
55:24
nowhere there's less things to break that sort of thing we do have a bunch of redundancy in this vanand so we have uh
55:30
or like we have dual DC todc Chargers we've got dual solar mppt solar charge
55:38
controllers all the electronics in this van are bluec systems victron linkx
55:44
distributor victron battery shunt
55:50
um yeah I'm really proud of this van I'm I'm gonna be sad to see it go because
55:56
I've worked on it so long um but that's how any build is you come down to the wire and there's just pretty much one
56:01
day of me having fun and testing the van out and it's off to its new home
56:08
um but yeah this is uh pretty nice build here
56:14
[Music] um so this
56:21
guy uh let me know if you guys have any questions I'm going to get off here in just a little bit but uh yeah this is my
56:27
goal tonight before leaving the shop and uh yep I was GNA leave right at
56:33
midnight so and we we be right back here tomorrow
56:38
so the next things to do here is to
56:44
um yeah just make sure that we get all the stuff dialed in and
56:52
uh tightened up here so
56:59
uh yeah it's looking good um any other questions I think that's about it
57:05
tonight all right guys I'm going to sign off make sure you guys are subscribed to Van Builder HQ uh YouTube channel um
57:12

58:14
I'd be happy to uh build your custom Adventure van for you um we also do
58:20
installs and repairs so for example we got a uh customer coming in um we we
58:26
didn't build their van but they're having some AC issues and so we had a new unit shipped to the shop and then
58:32
they're going to come by and I'm going to replace do like a warranty replacement for
58:38
them and uh so that's going to be exciting so we'll cover cover that
58:43
answer any questions about AC installs so uh we've done doedic RTX 2000 we've
58:50
done a nomatic cooling X2 which is the brand new 48 volt unit and then this
58:56
third one is the pneumatic cooling X3 12vt rooftop unit that's the one that's
59:03
going to be replaced on this customers uh or this uh van um that's bring bringing in
59:10
this it's it's an awesome I'm excited to see the van um it's from another Builder that I really like their builds so I'm
59:17
thankful that it's coming in the shop and you know got some praise to be able to bring it in here and take care of it
59:24
for him um looking forward to doing that but uh yeah this Channel's just
59:30
about taking you guys to the process helping out when uh I can if answering your questions but
59:37
um yeah we will be back tomorrow live streaming back here in the shop and uh
59:44

it's pretty much it delivery is Saturday um around lunchtime so got to knock
59:56
