1:20
hey everyone welcome back to the live stream tonight we got some more questions that have been answered on the
1:26
uh YouTube channel so that uh any of the com comments you guys make or questions you ask um I'm starting to go through
1:33
those and chop through those questions um and what I'm doing is I'm putting them into a new Forum that we have so if
1:40
you go to vuer hq.com and you click on
1:46
Forum this is a new form that we have with questions uh or that it's just a
1:52
space that I'm using to answer the questions that you guys have not only on YouTube but the comments questions and
1:58
emails question uh from past customers clients um yeah
2:04
so it's just going to be a place with a bunch of information and uh this is created because it is part of the new
2:13
camper van conversion blueprint course which is out now so you guys can purchase this course
2:20
uh we did an official launch two days ago um but every day we're going to be going over uh not only the course let
2:27
you know what's in the course if you guys are interested um but we're also going to talk
2:32
about new questions that are in the Forum so real quick if you guys don't
2:38
know about the keer van conversion blueprint it is a DIY van build course that I've been working over the past
2:43
year working on over the past year and um yeah it has a ton of stuff
2:49
in here so everything from getting started how to choose your van design and layout of the van offgrid power
2:55
system design fresh and gray water storage insulation sound dampening exterior upgrades and the private online
3:03
community which is the Forum so when you purchase this course you're going to get access to the
3:12
Forum and you'll be able to ask me questions in the Forum as part of the
3:18
course so the Forum that is online this will just be viewable but to people that
3:25
buy the course you get access to answer asking me questions uh directly on the
3:30
form itself so let's take a sneak peek inside
3:36
so you'll can expect uh to see what's inside the course so this is a behind thes scenes look at the course um it'll
3:43
look a little bit different when you purchase it but over here on the left we have different modules to learn from and
3:49
so all the videos right here the one at the top of each of these modules is
3:54
exclusive to the course so you're not going to find this information anywhere else
4:00
um not only that but the lectures have the PowerPoint with them so you can pull
4:06
up the PowerPoint make notes uh yourself um as you watch the video the PowerPoint
4:13
presentation is what I'm referencing as I go through teaching you guys about whatever topic and then if there's some
4:19
supplemental information tools or resources uh at the bottom here we'll have those for example this is is an
4:27
exclusive video only available in the course and it's a video uh doing a real
4:32
life walkthr of inspecting a used van before buying it so uh when John and
4:39
Susan's uh John and Susan reached out to me to build their Adventure van um they had originally wanted to look at a used
4:46
van and see if it was uh something they could buy and then customize after the
4:53
fact and I said you know let me look at the van real quick for you just to see what you're getting into I don't want
4:59
you to get into I don't want you purchasing something that when we go to customize it the van is not in the best
5:05
condition for you to do that and so what I did is I went up to check out the van and I decided to film uh the whole
5:12
entire tour and show you what I was looking for um so I'm not going to spoil
5:17
it too much but if you purchase the course uh this is a start to finish
5:23
video of a whole entire walk through and inspection of a used van and then at the end you can get to see uh my thoughts
5:30
about it which is a I think it's a great video and again it's just a great part
5:35
of the course because it's guiding you to help you start that DIY van build
5:40
Journey so first thing obviously you need to choose a van um then you'll go into figuring out uh the design and
5:48
layout how you want to build out your van and then each step you see we set
5:54
three four five six and seven this is just guiding you through
5:59
through the process um it is recommended kind of going in that order although you don't have to and for example the power
6:06
system Design This is one part of the module that has just a ton of information so um not only does it have
6:14
the exclusive video right here but what I do is I organize all the supplemental information which is basically videos
6:22
and knowledge that I've done in the past and I put it on in one place so you don't have to go run around uh and find
6:28
it all right so that's a quick overview of the course and what to expect when you purchase it if you like to purchase the
6:35
course uh I do have a discount code so let me put that discount code in the
6:40
chat um if you're watching live you get 20% off for joining the live stream and
6:45
checking that out so I'm GNA put the link uh in here really quick see if I can find
6:56
it yeah and then by the way if you guys have any questions DIY van build
7:02
related put that in the chat chat and uh I'll answer it for you guys tonight
7:10
all right so this link going in the chat that gets you 20% off the course um
7:16
visit that link and you can save some money uh the course is very indepth uh I
7:23
added up all the hours of lecture and footage that is in the course and it's
7:28
43 and half hours so if you guys want a deep dive into anything that I'm doing
7:34
the course is the thing to get um and check it out link is in
7:39
description below all right so there's the link um so next what we're doing in
7:45
these live streams is I'm updating the Forum this is the Forum
7:51
again that you're going to have uh access to when you purchase the course and so I'm updating it with all
7:59
the question questions that we've had over the years um really good questions
8:05
questions that have come to us through comments or just direct question questions from uh the Youtube channel so
8:11
we're going to go over four of them uh today and the first one that we're going to go over has to do
8:19
with uh it's a part of the Ford Transit van that um it's interesting part it is the rear
8:27
wire harness that you're going to disconnect in order to either have room for wall panels or
8:34
just to get that wire upper wire out of the way so in the in the Forum as you can
8:42
see this is the
8:48
question uh right here question that was asked is is the
8:53
Ford Transit re rear wire to the driver's side tail light included in the extended harness that goes to the ground
9:00
I'm extending mine but struggling to get enough slack from the tail light cables any advice so I do um fix the question a
9:10
little bit for it to make more sense uh so it's not vague when you guys see the question and so basically what they're
9:17
talking about is uh this video so when I go to answer these questions so down
9:22
here's the answer so when I answer the questions I reference and put the link to the video and actually who asked the
9:29
question question so you can actually click on the video it'll pop up and you can have a reference for what we're
9:35
talking about so the wire that we're talking about is over here on the left hand side and there's three ground wires
9:42
that ground the rear uh pigtail wiring harness for the tail light reverse
9:48
lights third brake light um that sort of thing and why you would want to remove
9:54
or remove this is because uh up here see this uh big wire so this big wire
10:01
harness right here um it gets in the way when you are installing wall panels and you need to take the pressure
10:10
of it so that you can extend it Forward up and uh you need to be able to extend
10:16
it from where it's current position is here so that's where it is currently and we need to move it up here
10:23
and the ceiling so it's out of the way so in order to do that down here at the bottom
10:29
you have these two wires the wire down here with the three uh terminals on it
10:37
that is bolted into the chassis of the van so we unbolt those three bolts and then this wire connector over
10:43
here on the right hand side or just uh above it that
10:49
is connected to the switch over here in the left hand side where this little
10:55
pocket is some some Vans will have this switch some won't it just depends on the
11:00
options that you have um but it all needs to be disconnected and don't worry about this
11:07
plug uh most people that are doing a DIY van conversion are not
11:14
re using their cargo lights that came Factory with the van they're typically
11:20
putting new LED lights in there and putting it on a new circuit so for that
11:26
reason you know this this part of the pigtail just kind of gets taped and
11:32
pushed away into into here you know maybe it's behind some insulation so it doesn't rattle but what's most important
11:38
is these three ground terminals um if you don't ground these properly
11:45
they're very easy to ground all you're doing is putting them together putting a bolt through it a new terminal lug six
11:52
gauge wire and kind of just extend it and ground it to the chassis again uh but don't forget to when you take this
12:00
off put it back on before you start the van up uh I've had issues where I have
12:07
goofed and I forgot to reconnect it and when I forgot to reconnect it the uh
12:15
interior cargo lights the door chime and the like the map lights or like the
12:23
uh the lights that come on like when you open the door um courtesy lights I think it's called
12:29
they met they they look like some of them are shot it's it's because for some reason Ford is grounding them all the
12:37
way at the back of the van um I guess that's just how they had to do their wiring scheme yeah but these three wires once
12:44
you disconnect them go ahead and reconnect them before you turn the van back on or crank the engine uh just so
12:50
you don't have any those nuisance uh faults like I did or that I
12:55
created so once you do that extend it with a six gauge wire I don't know if I do it in this
13:02
video um but pretty much these massive cables
13:10
right here this is what you're trying to ground again um so what I've done is up
13:15
here at the top I've disconnected these white plugs these white wire plugs from
13:22
the LEDs I've electrical taped them and then they'll be pushed up and out of the
13:27
way um let's see
13:34
here don't think I go over any let's see if I go over
13:40
anymore okay so here's this is a good view so these three hopefully you can
13:45
see that my mouse is right here in the bottom left so these three bolts are what you're going to want to undo be
13:51
very careful if you drop them inside that quarter panel it is almost impossible to get them out um even with
13:58
like a magnetic bolt finder uh so just take them out easy
14:05
don't drop them all right so that was the answer to
14:11
that question that question is right here so I just talked about for Transit
14:18
ground wires how to extend the loop and then I also said depending on your Van's year the rear minded light switch it
14:24
might be an option it might not be an option um but yeah that's an example of
14:29
a question that I answered today from the uh from this
14:36
video all right we got three more and feel free to ask any question that you
14:42
have uh other than what I'm doing tonight I'm just going over three more questions so the three more questions
14:48
I'm going to answer on the live stream is what is the correct way to apply Teflon tape to threaded pipe I'm going
14:54
to go over is it possible to build cabinets en counters using wood glue brad nails uh and then adding
15:00
screws um why is the water pump move so far away from the water
15:07
tank so let's go down to the next one uh the question was what is the correct way
15:13
to apply Teflon tape to a threaded pipe should it cover all threads and how many wraps are ideal for secure
15:20
seal um and I did clean this up right here
15:27
where it says like how many wraps um just to make just for the question to make
15:32
sense so what they were asking is uh so here's the video to reference
15:37
so you can just click on the video this is the video that's being referenced and the question was when I take the Teflon
15:45
tape and by the way if the tape says PTFE on it it's the same thing as Teflon
15:51
PTFE is the technical name Teflon is the you know generic what we all say kind of
15:57
like Xerox copies that sort of thing so when I wrap this
16:05
plug um what I did was I put put like a
16:11
little howto guide so you know make sure that it's clean um start at the base
16:18
wrap three to five layers that sort of
16:24
thing uh in this video watch the video and you'll you'll get what I'm doing
16:29
but typically when I put this I'm not only doing the Teflon tape but I'm also doing a it's a company called Rector
16:37
seal uh and it is a softs set food safe
16:42
pipe sealant and what I do is I do two to three reps of the Teflon and then I put one ring of the uh soft set on there
16:51
and that allows me to uh make sure it's a good
16:57
seal and the reason I do that as a backup is because if
17:03
you technically you shouldn't use metal fittings on plastic tanks but with
17:09
what's out there and what's available to us um you know I
17:14
like the metal drain plugs because if you're putting a water hose off and on on the plug you got a lot of wear and
17:21
tear on there and if it's plastic it's just it's just not the best thing I think that's just my opinion but when
17:28
you do use a metal fitting you got to be very careful not to overtighten it because it will split the plastic um
17:37
whether the P plastic is you know if it's in a hot environment and you go to tighten it really tight if you get up to
17:43
colder temperatures that tank is going to con uh contract and put even more
17:49
pressure on the threads so I would say just kind of use common sense on it but
17:54
I know a lot of people actually um maybe they've never done Plumbing before so I completely understand if if it feels
18:00
kind of foreign so I just answered that question with a couple steps and then
18:06
what I did was I went down here to the bottom and just did a little reference
18:13
uh kind of my two cents where I said you know if you are using soft set
18:19
sealant reduce it to two to three wraps um be very careful if you're doing plastic tanks with metal
18:26
fittings and uh don't be too aggressive with you know
18:31
making it tight so what you're going to have to do is as a DIY or anybody that's watching this video you're just going to
18:37
have to learn what works so you're going to need to take your tank put your F drain
18:44
fittings on fill it up with water and see if the tightness and how what method
18:50
that you did if that is uh contributing to a leak or you
18:55
actually did it to where it doesn't leak so that's what I did I just I learned by trial and error and I found out how
19:02
tight I need to make it um so I'm not overtighten it but at the same time it's tight enough so that when the soft Set
19:09
uh and the Teflon and all that work together it it seals it um so that's the answer to that
19:17
question all right we got two more and for you guys that are watching remember you can ask any question while I'm doing
19:24
the live stream next question is is it possible
19:29
to build van cabinets and counters with glue or wood glue brad nails and adding a few screws for Extra Strength what are
19:36
the pros and cons of this construction method so Rod asked this question
19:46
um and uh the short answer is yep you can use uh wood glue nails and extra
19:55
screws for strength um but I want you guys to focus on reinforcing for reinforcing the
20:01
joints and the video that we're referencing here is this one so this is
20:07
when I did a live stream and this is a Brian and Robin's Adventure van and what
20:13
I'm doing here is I'm making sure that uh there's a box that I built and
20:21
it I needed the box to slip inside the two pieces of uh
20:29
the heavy duty drawer slides and so but I needed this box to fit in
20:36
between the drawer slides the drawer slides were a fixed width because the cabinet was uh made by another
20:43
manufacturer and I can't I couldn't change it so not only did the Box have to fit but then I wanted to make sure an
20:48
induction stove fit within the box so the thickness of the plywood that used was half inch um and then I used a wood
20:56
glue brad nails and then what I did did is I took uh angle brackets and reinforced the
21:03
inside um and so Rod was asking me you know is that suitable for building a
21:09
cabinet um my recommendation would be to use Craig screws when you can however uh
21:17
the Craig screws in this situation would have looked really nasty it would have had these big cutouts of like you know
21:26
2in angled drill all throughout it it wouldn't look good it look like a mess
21:31
it'd be strong but it would look like a mess so what I did is I ended up um on
21:38
the inside here uh reinforcing it so what I was doing here you don't see the
21:43
reinforcements right now because I'm drilling the holes and I'm having to take the Box in and out so that I can
21:49
match it up with the uh heavy duty drawer
21:55
slides uh but if we fast forward not sure if I do it in this video or another
22:03
video okay so I must do it in another video when I do the reinforcements
22:10
um but that question came about when I was building this box he was wondering you know how do I support this box more
22:16
than I did with just the wood glue and pin uh I use pen Nails I will say pen nails and wood glue
22:25
uh if you do it right and you clamp it I mean it is incred incredibly strong
22:30
so um that is uh yeah that was a quick
22:37
answer to that I'm wondering if I have the other yeah so this was the original
22:42
question can you build cabinets en countertops that way wood glue brad nails and some
22:48
screws and then when I put the answer in
22:55
here that's what I get so Rod thank you for that question
23:02
um everyone that comes in on the channel you guys always have really good questions and uh yeah I'm finally
23:08
getting to knock them all out now that I got the course finished I can get back to these these questions here all right
23:15
so we got those knocked out let's go to the next one so this question is why is the water
23:22
pump mounted so far away from the tank and hot water heater in this van build does this affect performance or
23:29
uh installation efficiency and the video for referencing
23:36
this question was uh I did another live stream and this is Brian and Robin's
23:45
van and if you see the water pump is in their kitchen galy and the water pump is not near the water tank where you would
23:52
typically think that that's where it needs to be well uh
24:00
you don't have to put the water pump right next to the water tank again even though uh technically you know by the
24:06
book you want the water pump closest to the source as possible uh we're in a van we're not um
24:13
you know trying to pump a river or anything like that so moving it 3 or four feet away from
24:21
the water tank is okay where a pump starts to have
24:27
problems is the uh how high it is from the
24:33
intake so I'm going to back out I'm actually going to go to go into a
24:40
uh um let's see where is that se
24:52
flow so this is the uh pump that I use right here so we're going to look up this exact pump
24:59
42 series SEF
25:08
flow uh pump
25:15
manual okay I didn't plan that that box was
25:22
right there that was actually pretty pretty cool
25:28
okay so let's look at this manual right
25:46
here um and we're going to go look at stuff like this
25:53
uh wish I had see if I can do some highlighting
26:04
this fancy drawing pad right now I'm trying to
26:11
uh if I can change the marker
26:37
okay I'll do that later if you guys can see right here with my uh
26:44
cursor um so I'm looking at where it says
26:50
setup there we go okay so it says setup the pump may be positioned um may be
26:56
mounted in any position if mounted vertically the pump head should be in the down position to avoid leakage into
27:02
the motor casting in the event of malfunction secure the feet but do not compress them overtighten the screws may
27:09
u their ability [Music]
27:18
um okay so it can be mounted in any position and if you guys don't know you
27:24
you probably know this but you can search you can search PDFs by doing contrl F so click on it do contrl F and
27:33
I'm gonna type in
27:39
height so it doesn't come up let's see what else would they
27:44
say maybe vertical vertical
27:50
no anyway we got to look for
27:57
height for
28:28
oh wait here's some
28:43
more so let's type in mounting height
29:18
there you go priming so priming capab not height but priming
29:23
capabilities okay so when you look here
29:29
this is here's the technical stuff you need to learn about when you're you're buying
29:35
stuff for your van so priming capabilities six feet suction lift so it
29:43
is rated for six up to six feet that means you can have the pump six feet
29:50
above and when they say priming capabil capabilities that means if there's air
29:55
in the line and you turn the pump on the pump can overcome the air in the line and create
30:03
enough priming or suction to draw the water up the pipe once you pass Six Feet
30:10
it's going to sputter and it might not prime um so the six feet is the
30:18
height um let's see here
30:28
so that answers the question um this other stuff I'm just showing you Max amp draw is 15 amps fuse needs to be a
30:35
22.5 so 25 amp fuse would be okay for this um and then like if we look at
30:44
these applications for example um ours is see 5542
31:03
yeah so this is ours and just saying four gallons per minute 13 Amp Max draw shut off
31:10
pressures 55 PSI and all those numbers what they what
31:16
they tell you is they tell you how the pump functions um and what its features
31:22
are I like this pump specifically because I don't use this pump with an accumulator and I've never had a problem
31:29
of it uh you know water hammer or anything like that it has a nice ramp up ramp
31:36
down just a really good pump all right what is
31:44
next oh Noah's got a question um so Noah says this may be asked already but is
31:52
the course geared towards 8020 building struggling with hinge ideas in most spots
31:59
um so the course isn't uh let me zoom up here so the course isn't based on only
32:08
8020 construction uh or Wood Construction um what I'm showing you is
32:14
specifically design layout where things go um products to use because if you
32:20
want to use 8020 that works if you want to use Wood Construction you can do that as well um but for the 8020 I know
32:28
exactly what you're talking about with the hinges uh I
32:34
actually I think um I think I think I answered one of those questions on the
32:39
Forum the other
32:47
day yeah if I if you're using 820 it might be good to uh here let me go to
33:07
so I'm going to go to the actual 820 website I'm G to type in
33:14
hinge so if you're using 820 and
33:19
uh if I'm getting off topic from what your talk uh your question is just kind of ask me another question in the chat
33:26
but 8020 does have specific hinges that keep that offset of the hinge and like
33:33
the 15 series 8020 correct so that it's not kind of weird um but what I
33:43
do
33:49
uh so one module that's going to be a bonus module that I'm working on adding
33:55
is going to be uh the upholstery one so that that one was not part of the
34:01
original course but um I want to add it just as supplement
34:08
information and so the reason I'm bringing up upholstery is the way that I
34:14
do my 8020 works or builds is I do the 8020 as the frame and then I take Baltic
34:22
Birch or/ inch plywood I wrap it and then I bolt that plywood to to the uh
34:30
8020 and then typically the plywood is actually what holds the drawer hinges
34:36
and the uh like the clasp that hold the door like the slam latches so the woods
34:43
actually doing all the work um 8020 is just mainly there for the frame now when I did Thomas's
34:51
van so Thomas's van let's see that this actually might help you
34:59
um let me find the
35:23
video so yeah okay I'm gonna find that video Noah give me one second so let me wrap this question up here on the Forum
35:32
yeah so that was the water pump I used and uh if you can keep the water pump as
35:37
close to the water tank that's the ideal World um and yeah keep the pump as close but
35:45
don't worry about moving it because you can move it every Van's different feel free to move the pump as long as it's
35:51
not 6 feet too high it should operate normal all right back to Noah's question
35:57
question um yeah so no so most of the time I'm
36:04
using standard hinges you know I'm going to uh I'm using cabinet hinges from lows
36:10
I'll go to Low's and I'll get a cabinet hinge um for my drawer slides uh I'll go
36:16
and use drawer slides at Lowe's are terrible the hinges at Lowe's are okay because
36:23
they're they're normal cabinet hinges they're they're pretty pretty heavy duty but the drawer slides that's where you
36:28
want to go to uh where did I get those
36:39
um let me see if I got that in the shop I I got them from so
36:45
Blum Blum hinges are the high-end really nice ones but there's this new uh it's
36:51
not a new company but there is a woodworking company that made their
36:58
own version of Blum hint uh drawer slides and they're really good
37:06
uh trying to think what the name of that company
37:15
is after getting done with the two van builds this year my shop is it's all all
37:20
flipped around so this is a what is that woodworking
37:25
company woodworking
37:31
let's see what is the name of it Rockler there you go okay so
37:38
Rockler is what I use um for the drawer
37:43
slides so let me here I'll show you me sign in here
37:59
oh you said Blum in the yeah you said Blum um yeah let me go to my uh
38:18
history okay so the 18inch Rockler here I'll send you a link in the chat
38:37
okay so these are the under mount drawer slides that I use they're awesome these things are awesome when I first thought
38:44
about doing this I thought they were really hard to install um to be honest
38:50
undermount drawer slides in my opinion are easier they make more sense because when you're
38:57
put him in your van you can drill them into that wood um or you can you could
39:04
bolt them to 820 you could do that too um I'm not sure how soon you're going to
39:12
be working on your van but uh in a few in a month or so um I may be working on
39:19
redoing my van and I have a 8020 frame uh that I Fab up up but it's just
39:26
sitting in the corner and I'm going to put drawers in it and stuff like that so I'll use the method of taking these
39:33
under mount drawer slides I will drill this out and bolt it
39:38
to the wood panel um and then the front face I'll
39:43
just do a face frame bolted to the 820 and then the drawer fronts will
39:48
attach to my drawer boxes so
39:55
um so the so know the content you're trying to find is uh this is this is
40:01
what you're looking for you would be interested in my videos on John and
40:07
Susan's build so go to Van Builder HQ go to live and then just look for
40:14
green so anything that's green painted um like this one for
40:21
example so this you can see I'm not using uh
40:28
I'm not using a Ford Transit I mean sorry I'm not using 8020 um I'm just using wood this is a
40:36
wood uh cabinet I built from scratch in the shop on the table saw and I used it
40:43
glue and Craig screws to bolt the whole thing together and see here is those
40:50
uh uh drawers so they're just they're just screwed straight into the the
40:57
Baltic Birch I do recommend using Baltic Birch I would not recommend using plywood from Lowe's don't do that Baltic
41:05
Birch has the hardness is what really holds the screw in the wood the stuff at Lowe's is just it's
41:11
just too soft to uh for my Rec for a van build per
41:18
se um let's get to
41:24
uh vesa here building out Ford Transit need to secure three Captain chairs in
41:30
the back your thoughts on a smart floor versus bolting down the appropriate L
41:36
Trak all right let me send this link here for
41:42
Noah yeah so Noah check out check out the builds here
41:48
um and I think that will like this video that I just put in the chat that'll help
41:54
guide you and if you want to do maybe Wood versus 8020 um but yeah I'm going to be doing live
42:01
streams every day so if you want to come in the live stream tomorrow 8 o'clock Eastern Standard Time bring me some more
42:08
questions I'll help you with uh any questions you
42:14
have um okay so I'm just gonna pivot here to vesa's
42:20
question uh the question is about smart floors bolting them down
42:28
with uh versus both of them down with the appropriate L track so my opinion on that
42:36
is uh the smart floor is really good uh one
42:42
if you have the budget uh and two if you don't really care that much about your floor being
42:49
insulated regardless of the air gap or whatever they say when you have that
42:54
aluminum floor glued in um it's still not going to be as
43:01
uh insulative as if you have actual foam underneath there um as far as uh so
43:10
smart floor is good again if you're not using your van if if if you don't care about the thermal the cold floor being a
43:16
thing so smart floors if you have the budget it's pretty straightforward ready
43:22
to go to put chairs in now what I've done on customer Vans
43:29
when I'm doing L track installs is uh typically the L track would be only if I
43:37
if my customer wants to be able to move the chair to a different location in the van if we've already built the van out
43:44
and we got the bed system kitchen Galley and there's a fixed location for the chairs uh what I'll do is I'll through
43:51
bolt the chairs to the chassis um and I don't use l Trak I just find the spot
43:57
where it's going to live and I bolt it through the chassis and that is where it stays and what I do is I bypass the uh
44:05
the insulation and everything so that when I put the chair in it's metal to metal and that's for me that's just
44:12
safety um but if you wanted to you could kind of have like a hybrid where uh you put
44:20
the L track in uh as long as you uh know how to bolt
44:26
it in safely um usually have my drawing pad set
44:35
up but uh yeah let me know if that answers your question I'm GNA get
44:40
my little drawing pad out and if you want to go a little bit deeper I can
44:46
sketch out what I'm talking about for
44:52
you this is good guys um the more questions the merrier
45:01
that's what the live stream is for it is to answer your
45:08
questions and also introduce you to the the the van DIY van build course
45:15
so um
45:27
so while you guys are thinking up some more questions I'm going to plug in this
45:32
little pad that I got here
46:00
um believe it or not the eltrak supplier that I use uh there's a
46:06
company um it's us Logistics what is the name of this cargo
46:13
control us cargo control let me see let me figure this out
46:32
so if I need and this is not sponsored or anything like that but if I need uh
46:37
like legit stuff um I go to us cargo control uh what I mean legit
46:45
is specifically the L [Music]
46:53
Trak uh this the accessories so I don't like buying these accessories
46:59
off Amazon I like buying them off of us cargo control
47:05
um for lra that's not a safety device like a seat it's more for uh like
47:12
hanging backpacks or something like that I'll go and buy the LTR off of Amazon um but if I'm using it for a seat
47:19
or something uh more serious I'll go to us cargo control and I'll I'll look at this um um the one
47:28
that I like to go with is it's called a aluminum flanged Airline style track and
47:35
the reason is it's flanged right here so be careful when you're ordering the L TR
47:41
um not that it's not safe but if you buy the standard you're going to get something
47:48
like this um and it's got a big see it's a big hump so when you put it on to your
47:56
apply wood floor you're going to have this big old hump you're going to trip over or you can't move stuff over easily
48:03
so you my opinion is you don't want this you want uh the recessed
48:11
track um because the recess track is going to give you that ability to embed
48:16
it and so my recommendation is see it's 48 so it's almost right at a half
48:23
inch um so what I would do on this is below this
48:31
floor I would uh I would do my half inch
48:37
flooring and then what I would do is I would router out that half
48:44
inch um uh or you could just cut out with the jigsaw before you know but what you want
48:53
to do is you want this metal L track to touch the metal of the chassis of the van that's the goal that's my personal
49:01
opinion because you want the bolt that goes through here that grade eight bolt
49:06
Automotive grade bolt to come through Bond uh Mount the metal to metal underneath
49:14
the Van have those two things bolted together and that way you know it's a true
49:19
connection uh I've seen so many vans that shows that they just take a couple
49:24
of wood screws and drill the eltr into the van floor or
49:33
they'll take sheet metal screws and drill the sheet metal screws into the van
49:39
chassis uh to me that's a no no because when you use a sheet metal screw the part that Taps the hole it the
49:47
hole is too actually too wide so the sheet metal screw is actually kind of barely holding um it's great for you
49:55
know like a tin roof or something like that but but for holding seats in a van that's not safe so uh what I do is I put
50:03
a bolt through here um the only downside of the bolt is that um you know it will
50:10
have a hump on the inside but you can easily just move the chair over it just kind of plan
50:16
accordingly uh long story short make sure it's metal to metal and kind of go from there
50:24
um and let me here I'm going to put this
50:34
link put this link here into the chat
51:01
and I'm also putting a link to the camper van course that I just put together so this is a 20% off coupon for
51:10
the DIY camper van build course so if you need some help guiding you and you
51:16
want to go through that course um I've got a little behind the scenes here just
51:22
real quick that I'll show you um
51:30
so when you get into the course it'll look kind of like this but basically we're going through these
51:35
modules so we've got a course introduction uh and then I have these lectures that walk you through um all
51:43
these parts of the van so how to choose your van whether you're buy new or used design and layout how to design your van
51:50
that's going to fit your knees but do it efficiently so that you're not uh doing
51:56
a layout that's not going to work you don't want to get yourself in a situation where you work on like the bed
52:03
and the kitchen Galley and you don't plan out for other accessories and then once you get to a certain point of your
52:08
build you're not able to fit those in your van so we go over that um we do a
52:14
deep dive into flooring install and then I have a six part series down
52:21
here from John and Susan's van build and this breaks out all the details of the
52:27
flooring um I even go through uh there's actually four holes
52:34
in this flooring and this pertains to to vesa's question but I show you how to plan for
52:41
those uh grade8 bolts coming through the floor uh so what I do
52:47
is those I've draw with a marker kind of where I'm laying those out I pre-drill
52:53
those holes and have it come up through the wood floor and then when I go to do my lawn seal Marine vinyl I know where
53:00
I'm going to come up through the floor and Pierce the vinyl but do it neatly so I don't tear it
53:06
out um so that can be helpful just to think about the L TR as well um but yeah
53:13
these are good questions because I may add uh I do have videos on eltrak on the
53:18
live stream from past videos but um it's kind of buried you know in the hundreds of live streams I've done so so tonight
53:28
I might kind of resurrect those I might go find them and do like a detailed L track video it sounds like you guys have
53:34
a lot of questions on elre that I like to use what I recommend how I like to
53:39
how I recommend installing it um some other parts of the course insulation and sound
53:45
dampening now as you see here there's always a video at the Top This is a this is an exclusive video that uh you can
53:54
only get through the course and that that's it's exclusive lecture going through um some stuff that is not
54:01
available on the channel or the live streams um we also go through offgrid
54:07
power system design and then I've got a lot of breakout videos of installing Shore
54:12
power solar power systems you know wire crimping all that good stuff and then
54:19
got fresh and graywater systems showing you how to do plumbing and then ending
54:24
with exterior accessories um so that is that is the course and a nutshell and
54:32
if you guys are interested all you got to do is go to camper van van Builder HQ
54:38
click on course and you can go ahead and purchase purchase it today don't forget
54:45
there's a link in the theuh chat for 20% off uh because you guys are checking out
54:50
the live stream tonight all right enough of that um yeah
54:56
do you guys have any more questions on the L track or cabinets or hinges I'm G
55:02
see if I can find there's one I'm G try to find that L Trak video while we're
55:08
letting the stream get some questions coming
55:22
in let's see if I can find some more videos for
56:03
let's see I did have I did have the support mounts for
56:09
the flooring I did on the Ford Transit Adventure van so I think I got him right
56:23
here okay V if you're still on here this is uh if you can see down here at the
56:31
bottom of the van I have insulation uh but there's these aluminum
56:37
runs there's two right here and then there's one right back here and what they're doing these two aluminum 1 in
56:44
square tube aluminum bars is they are making sure that when I mount the drawer
56:50
slide later in this build that when I compress the uh grade8 Bolt to mount the
56:56
drawer slides which would be the same thing as eltrak um it doesn't compress the foam insulation it it keeps it rigid
57:06
so if you still wanted to insulate the floor and then you wanted to use the uh
57:12
half inch floor like another half inch up um that would be kind of a method to
57:19
uh to do
57:38
all right guys I'm going to hop online here real quick and show you uh one more
57:45
free item that I've got that is the DIY van build cheat sheet so if you
57:52
guys are looking for products uh that I use in the shop what I've done is I've
57:57
created this uh DIY van build cheat sheet and it has over 250 items that
58:04
I've bought on Amazon that have been shipped to the shop and are they're what I use um so there's all kinds of bolts
58:11
nuts a lot of 020 Hardware uh mounting so like stainless steel bolts and
58:17
fasteners for the 8020 it's got uh lots of fuses it's got solar panel Renegy
58:24
components um yeah just a lot of parts that I've bought in the past for the Vans it also has a list of tools that I
58:31
use and uh so over here and another live stream I'm going to get to uh these
58:37
tools so we'll do a different live stream for this but I've got hydraulic crimpers for the wire lugs that I use
58:46
um for doing the really like big you know two o 4 o cables so we'll talk
58:53
about that in a different stream um but yeah uh besides the course this
59:01
uh is something that I think would help you guys uh in the short term uh just
59:07
getting this and checking out the products that I have um but again yep if you want to deeper dive the uh the course is now
59:15
officially out all right guys if we don't have any more questions I'll be on here for about
59:21
one more minute to see if anything comes in um awesome question T night look
59:27
forward to seeing you guys hopefully tomorrow uh with some more questions on doing a DIY van build I'll be happy to
59:34
uh answer those questions so bring them on um in the meantime make sure you guys
59:39
are subscribed like the video share this video to anybody who is doing their own DIY van build and is looking for a
59:46
channel that gives a bunch of tips on how to build your DIY van
59:51
um yeah and we have uh we'll have some more stuff coming out I've got more questions that I'll be answering
59:57
tomorrow in the live stream so look for five more questions that have been asked
1:00:02
by you guys on YouTube getting answered and being put in the Forum um there we go there we go vesa
1:00:12
thoughts on headliner shelves seems like they might get in the way of airbags good
1:00:19
point do I have a video nice
1:00:27
uh I get I get a video on that I think I That Should Be My slogan I need a
1:00:32
t-shirt it says I've got a video on that
1:00:40
um I know I have a video that I'm working on that let me see if I can find one so while I'm looking for this video
1:00:46
I'll answer your question so on a Ford Transit the airbag the airbag is uh
1:00:53
right over the door frame and the the airbag blows down and the grab handle is
1:01:00
right here and the mount for the Shelf is right here
1:01:05
so as far as I know uh I don't see how it interacts
1:01:13
with the airbag um just the way that the airbag is mounted and the way it
1:01:19
deploys um the one thing I will say about headliner shelves is that they
1:01:24
need to be light because the grab handle you use two of the bolts to
1:01:30
install the headliner shelf one bolt is a threaded bolt into sheet metal the
1:01:35
other one is just a decorative screw it's just a screw that holds the
1:01:41
upholstery up it doesn't actually it shouldn't be used for weight but I know
1:01:48
a lot of people that uh buy the um headliner
1:01:54
shelves they make the mounting bracket to use that so that is just an Insider
1:02:04
uh okay I don't think this
1:02:09
shows maybe let's check out this one um guys
1:02:17
there's thousands of hours of videos that I've done on this channel so if you're new to the channel go to the live
1:02:22
stream Tab and dig through those videos the finish videos I don't have so many
1:02:28
finish videos I have hundreds of live stream videos so videos like you're watching right here
1:02:37
um so vesa question right here
1:02:43
is see if I can get out of the way of the
1:02:52
camera okay and how do you how can we I can't
1:02:57
zoom in so we're looking right here this is where we're looking
1:03:05
uh so the airbag is I I don't I don't think it affects it because this right
1:03:11
here where the the handle is the Shelf is if you that's where the mounting locations are is the Shelf is always
1:03:16
above above the uh airbag let's see
1:03:29
yeah so the airbag I don't know if you guys can zoom in and see that this is where the airbag is so the Shelf is up
1:03:39
here so they're they're SE they're separate so when the airbag deploys it it blows out this bottom piece of the
1:03:48
foam and the Shelf is independent of that the Shelf is on the other side of
1:03:54
the handle not the bottom side um cuz by the way you have to
1:04:01
retain this Ford factory shelf um if you put a if you put a shelf in
1:04:07
because I don't know why they do this the Ford factory Shelf has the microphone for the handsfree well that
1:04:14
kind of makes sense the lights but it has the uh airbag circuitry uh plug in it um and so you
1:04:23
have to unplug all that when you
1:04:29
uh we don't have to unplug it I had to do it because I actually I broke one of the tabs in the
1:04:36
uh where the lighting switch is so I popped it out um and one of the plastic
1:04:41
tabs broke off and I had to replace it but through that I found out um that the
1:04:47
airbag light and uh all that stuff is is in that
1:04:52
circuit so so vesa I don't think it is going the uh
1:05:01
it will not get in way of the airbags um here we go that's a better that's a
1:05:07
better view so this is just a a flap around the airbag of some uh
1:05:15
upholstery but you see this little cavity right
1:05:20
here uh when it when the airbag goes it's a curtain so it goes it blows down
1:05:27
downward um this handle actually would protect it from the shelf that goes right
1:05:33
here uh but if you're going to do a shelf just keep it light you know insulative covers can go up there don't
1:05:41
hold don't do what others have done and build like a wood box with a hinge and
1:05:46
you can like loading stuff up in there that's not smart um and when I talk about van weight
1:05:53
safety in the course I always point out that you need to make sure that
1:05:59
um just think about getting possibly getting into an accident how is everything you're going to in your van
1:06:05
where is it going to go when you get into an accident have you mounted it in a way that it's bolted through the
1:06:10
chassis so it doesn't go anywhere so that's kind of a big safety item that I try to talk
1:06:17
about Guys these are excellent questions um yeah I'll stay on here I'm going to
1:06:24
go uh let the dog out for a second and I'll be right back so give me give me some
1:06:30
questions when I get back on the stream in just a minute come on
1:07:28
all right guys I think that's it we are going to end the stream tonight um thank you guys so much for
1:07:34
watching we'll be back here tomorrow 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time bring your questions and uh we'll see you on the
1:07:42
next live stream [Music]
