hey guys welcome to the shop Welcome to our first live stream um pretty exciting so hopefully we are
0:24
going to be doing this every single week and I want this to be a place where you guys can ask questions in the chat and
0:30
hopefully those will turn into Fruit future videos so uh yeah if we get that going that would be awesome
0:38
all right we have a little bit of an agenda here in this video
0:43
um it's really just to go over what's happened in the shop give you guys an update what's going on with the Vans
0:49
because it's been a while since we've made videos and right now it'd be a great time to uh catch
0:56
everybody up so right here if you guys can check it out we've been working on
1:02
a customer van build that's Thomas's van and we've done a couple of videos with
1:10
uh like the roof rack and a little bit of interior stuff so none of the detail
1:15
videos that I really want to get onto the uh the channel So today we're just going to give a
1:22
little update on where his Van's at so he's actually using his van right now
1:27
and it's going to come back probably about January time frame back in the
1:34
shop we're about 99 done with the van um we kind of wanted to get it to uh
1:40
Venture van Expo in Chattanooga Tennessee which was pretty awesome so uh yeah that is why not a lot of stuff
1:47
has been posted because we've been working on the van um if you guys watch car shows and you
1:53
see all the builds where everybody's doing things at last minute to get everything ready for the car show that
1:58
really happens in real life so it takes it takes a lot to uh get that going so
2:03
the good news is the whole time I've had his van we've been taking a lot of video so I'm really excited to show you guys
2:10
that um back over here got a little bit of a to-do list for the video today
2:18
I want to talk a little bit more about Thomas's van but let's just show you what's going on with the rest of the uh
2:24
the video so we're going to talk about um van one which is the van behind me
2:31
since Thomas is enjoying his van right now van one is back in the shop
2:37
and then let's see here move back to here
2:42
so we'll talk about the upcoming videos for Van 1 we've got the adventure wagon
2:48
insulation part three so I know you guys were wondering where part 3 video is
2:55
um it's happening and hopefully we're gonna be able to do it live so the stuff that I put in there
3:01
we're actually going to have a camera inside the van so we can kind of go back and forth between the live stream and
3:07
the chat so as I'm over here working on the van if you guys have a question we can actually do it in real time and then
3:14
what's cool is the plan is to take those videos and turn them into future videos for for doing a q a
3:23
uh next thing we have is the crl driver side vent window
3:30
so on this van see where the microphone is
3:35
we've done the passenger side we've done the rear two bunk windows so the
3:42
driver's side that is the one that we got too finish installing
3:49
so that will be in the next video let's see here
3:55
Friedman seating so I have a Freeman seat that I bought at Adventure van expo
4:01
from the Freeman company um and that seat that'll turn into a
4:08
video on itself and just to give you guys a link to show you what that is if you've ever seen
4:14
these seats um they have really nice leather seats and
4:19
then you have more like commercial seats if you can imagine this commercial seat with a leather on it that is the one
4:26
that we picked up this seat I can't move the camera right now but it's the one that actually folds
4:34
up and out of the way so you can walk through the van and then you can take it and then fold
4:39
it back down uh you know carry two passengers in the van
4:46
um because even though you're doing a van build out you may want to carry passengers during the week you know when
4:52
you're not camping uh still have a little bit of utility to the van so we'll have a video on the Friedman
5:00
seating and then coming up we'll be doing the floor install
5:09
so those are those things we got to look forward to
5:15
um yeah let's finish up a little bit about Thomas's van so we got a we have about three more panels that we've got
5:22
to install in his van we got to upholster them and then we uh
5:28
we were going to install a uh Shore plug in the back of the van so
5:35
probably a back underside of the van uh he wants it to be kind of incognito
5:41
um so you can't see from the outside but underneath it you could plug it in to top off the battery
5:47
uh right now he's kind of shaking the van down we've gone through um a couple of uh Power Cycles on the van
5:55
uh one day it got really low uh he was doing a lot of stuff and it got pretty
6:00
low so the cool thing with the red arch system and again we're gonna be doing a red Arc video in the future
6:08
uh hence why I'm doing the live stream so you guys can get quicker video out
6:13
there on updates instead of me you know taking time to edit it behind the scenes
6:18
uh but what's cool about the red Arc it almost has like a self-healing mode so when it gets so dead it shows zero
6:25
percent or just dotted lines um and a couple in a couple days it will
6:30
actually about two or three days uh it'll find where it's at again and then get back to a new percentage so that was
6:37
a cool little troubleshooting thing that we found um so yeah red Arc let's see here it's
6:45
Shore power we're gonna be doing that to his van and then when it comes back in January
6:50
we're going to be working on the pneumatic air system so we're gonna do a Hardline air system so that we can on
6:59
the front right here we can have a quick connect and then we'll have a quick connect on the back
7:06
because he actually has a uh an ARB compressor in the back
7:11
so that when he goes off-road he can air down the tires but just for ease of use we want to have
7:17
those uh connection fittings on the front and the back
7:23
so really I mean we've got a ton of content for you guys it's just a mountain of
7:29
uh DOI content so I think you guys are really going to enjoy it um answering some YouTube comments
7:37
let's see here yeah we'll go through some comments um I'll give you a little final thoughts
7:42
on the live stream schedule the feedback and then the Q a stuff that I want to do
7:47
so let's go ahead and get into answering some comments here
7:54
so originally this video was going to be talking about PEX and PEX fitting so I was going to
8:02
have a whole thing of pexfinity so you guys could see you know what they looked like but I
8:08
already have a video about PEX and what I was going to answer in this
8:14
video um was going to was going to talk about uh
8:19
was asked in a comment so right here hm had a comment and this
8:26
is this had to do with the uh PEX video
8:32
see I wonder if I can get to
8:39
let's see if I can get this video real quick
8:46
video
8:55
let's see here
9:02
yep here we go
9:08
what could you do
9:21
okay so in this video we talked about PEX
9:27
let's see here
9:36
yeah we talked about these Pex fittings and kind of how everything went together
9:41
um the question that was in this video had to do with uh freezing so
9:48
hm said you know great video uh this is one of the very few videos that go any detail about propex plumbing
9:54
and the van awesome work quick question how do you compare the brass versus plastic opener fittings
10:01
I noticed you use a lot of brass fittings in spite of the higher price than their plastic counterparts or the
10:08
plastic fittings are more resistant to freezing resistant to freezing but the metal ones are stronger so I'm
10:14
struggling to decide which type to use thanks so I went and did a little bit of a deep
10:21
dive into this and uh you it's always cool to
10:28
find out how much you don't know when you think you know
10:35
um so as much as I learned about plumbing and my background experience doing handyman stuff and working the
10:40
past doing all the tools and just learning how to install it and having a basic understanding it was really cool
10:45
to dive deep into this and really learn you know exactly what material it's made
10:51
out of and a little bit of the uh different properties
10:58
so for anyone that doesn't know PEX is it stands for Crosslink
11:05
cross-linked polyethylene so the PE is the polyethylene and the X stands for
11:12
cross-linked so that makes complete sense now now there's there's different kinds so
11:18
there's pecs a and then there's pecs
11:26
B now the PEX a is going to be companies
11:31
like upnor and then PEX B
11:37
uh this is going to be the kind of old school PEX so this is
11:43
the ones where you're going to have a crimp down metal you're going to have a crimp down metal collar versus uh PEX a which is the
11:52
expanded pipe that comes and does a compression fitting so all the picks that I install in a van is
11:59
PEX a um and so to quickly answer the question
12:05
before I get into all these details right here uh
12:10
the let's see here the PEX
12:16
yeah so the question was about what what freezes
12:22
um so I didn't actually find anything specific on what freezes faster
12:28
or what is better for freezing um
12:33
but so this link right here so if we go here this link
12:42
um guys that's that's uh that's Nova in the background you've probably seen her in a couple videos
12:50
Nova the German Shepherd um so I pulled this off of the internet this is uh the link
12:57
so I'm just doing a little bit of uh foreign some info here so you guys can link back
13:03
to it so it says the truth is as with any piping PEX is still vulnerable to
13:08
freezing if the temperature drops below enough but thanks to flexible material the plastic expands under pressure of
13:14
the freeze significantly reducing the chance of bursting
13:20
um and then as far as flexibility
13:25
this also has to do with freezing you know PEX a is the most flexible allowing for it to be fastened by Cold expansion
13:32
which allows the end to be fluted prior to inserting the fitting Mix B is not expandable and you should never expand
13:38
the end of PEX B um there's a
13:46
if you guys go to the build show um it's a it's a I'll link it down here
13:52
but it's a builder and they had a I wish I could link to that
13:58
um I'll do that in a minute but essentially the the outside diameter of PEX ampxb is the same
14:06
so uh their energy they are not interchangeable but they do fit inside
14:13
each other so that's the issue that's why you want to make sure you're specifically using Apex a uh
14:21
material or PEX B when you use the fit the corresponding fittings
14:26
because if you accidentally get the wrong pecs it's going to fit together and you're going to think it's okay but
14:33
um like for example if you use PEX B and you try to expand it it would damage it
14:40
um yeah PEX a is the most flexible let me go back over here pexa is the most flexible
14:46
allowing it to be fastened by Cold expansion which allows the end to be fluted prior to inserting the fitting
14:52
PEX B is not expandable and should never oh yeah I just already read that
15:00
no how's the live stream going Jamie you
15:05
can you can put it in the comments let's see here no chat
15:13
see here
15:23
I'm reading the chat right now hold on a second
15:30
if somebody wants to see where
15:38
here's the German Shepherd
15:44
okay um let's see where was I
15:54
duh yeah so PEX a just be just due to its
16:00
nature uh when you it is expandable um and what I found with that's nice with pixay is uh when I expanded it and
16:09
the joint crimps down because it has a memory to it the the the joints can
16:15
actually still move so if you accidentally move them it's still going to seal properly where PEX B I used in
16:23
the shop on the bathroom renovation I did actually last week
16:28
when you crimp down that uh copper ring or still ring whatever it is that
16:34
fitting does not move so I'm assuming if you moved it you would damage the joint
16:43
um okay get back on topic here how do you winterize pecs
16:52
uh so this is a very very simple question to me I mean you
16:58
just you drain all the water out and you fill fill the lines up with uh like a
17:03
ethylene glycol like an antifreeze type of thing however um in in a van you're going to be using
17:09
that water that's gonna be potable water watch this water you're going to be drinking so you don't do not use
17:16
antifreeze they actually have a um antifreeze for RVs it's the pink stuff
17:23
so if you ever went to an RV Show and the sink always has that pink water in it or the tank has pink or they sprayed
17:30
the nozzle to kind of test the water system and it's pink that is the uh
17:37
uh potable water antifreeze so um you guys can look that up I'm not
17:43
going to look that up right now but essentially yeah just um
17:50
let's see anyway yeah we're not going to go over this I just I just linked up there for some some weird reason
18:01
um oh yeah I know I did that so I put this in here to talk about because
18:12
see what was I see what I want to do
18:22
so I'm on shark bites website if you guys SharkBite is uh they push to connect fittings they sell
18:29
them at Lowe's you can use push to connect things in the van I just I wouldn't recommend it
18:37
um because they're very expensive and if you mess up it's very difficult to try to reuse them
18:43
if not impossible all right yeah here this is what I wanted to show you guys here we go
18:51
all right um so this is talking about the threshold for freezing
18:57
I'm just going to read this and then I'll go back to my face and I'll explain it to you
19:02
um each case varies but the building research council at the University of Illinois defines the temperature alert
19:07
threshold as 20 degrees Fahrenheit for uninsulated pipes uh particularly for the southern states
19:13
that would experience sudden dips in temperature throughout the winter so remember when I'm explaining uh
19:21
this sudden dips in temperature um
19:27
so if you're in a van you're doing van life uh
19:32
it's actually going to be pretty hard for your if you're living in the van day-to-day it's going to be extremely
19:39
rare for your pipes to actually freeze and burst because
19:45
that that freezing temperature is only going to dip down uh
19:51
it's not going to stay constant so if you're using your van you're driving it you're warming it up you're
19:57
sleeping in it you got the heater on um it's it's going to be very difficult for the van to get so cold for so long
20:05
that ice accumulates then that ice freezes and then starts to expand and so
20:11
that's a long process I'll give an example I went to uh Grayson Highlands we went
20:18
up there for a hiking trip and uh my van
20:25
it was like 25 degrees outside or something like that yeah maybe like 34
20:31
in the day so really cold and we went on a hiking trip for uh two days
20:37
so I parked the van at the trailhead we left it it snowed like six or eight inches at
20:44
night we hiked around spent the night and then we we came back the next morning
20:51
um you know the van my van is a low roof Ford Transit 150. it's not fully
20:58
insulated um but you know it's
21:05
your inside your van is protected you know essentially from the elements because of the outside of the structure
21:10
of the van and for the internal temperature so inside the van inside that cabinet where
21:17
your water tank is inside the tank itself it's going to take a long time for that core temperature to block to
21:22
drop to where it actually freezes to solid ice so long story short
21:29
um I haven't changed anything on my van the past three years been through long freezing it stays outside all the time
21:37
even my uh 100 amp hour I just have one battery for the lights
21:43
and stuff like that that lithium iron phosphate battery it does not have a low
21:48
temperature disconnect or anything like that but over three years even camping in the winter in the snow leaving the
21:54
van in a parking lot it's just never got to where I've had an ice issue so what I'm saying is it's
22:00
very rare that you're going to get to a point where your pipes freeze and bust now what a lot of people are talking
22:07
about are you know just watching tons of YouTube videos and stuff like that
22:13
um you got to think about these stories are particularly probably coming from the
22:20
Northwest you know Washington Canada Alaska
22:26
um you know New York you know there are places where it gets where your Vans
22:31
outside and it's freezing outside the van has been just sitting in the cold
22:37
um like a refrigerator the whole entire time then you're going out to the van to get in it and use it that's when
22:45
you know it's the pipes can freeze inside um it's just like putting a bottle of water outside up in the north you know
22:52
it's gonna freeze overnight so if you're in those locations uh
22:59
yeah you have the risk of your pipes freezing and then you know winterizing
23:04
the pipes you know putting that uh RV antifreeze in there um that'll probably just be a normal
23:11
daily task that you that you do when you winterize your van but
23:16
um here I'm gonna cut this short if you are in those scenarios you'll
23:22
kind of know what to do if you're up north you're going to make sure that your water lines are always drained before you park it outside for extended
23:29
period of time if you're down south it's going to be really rare that you're going to have a hard line freeze to the
23:36
point that it expands and breaks now that was a long wooden answer
23:43
so let me go up here back to hm so the difference
23:49
between plastic and Brass these are my final thoughts plastic I have this is the only two
23:56
differences I can find plastic has a thicker wall diameter
24:01
it has less flow and more chemical resistance thicker wall diameter is because it's
24:07
plastic it's not as strong as metal so they have to make up the strength with the wall thickness
24:13
less flow is because that wall thickness is the diameter is smaller it's a little
24:21
bit more resistance I mean it's you're probably not going to notice this
24:26
and then plastic uh has that chemical resistance Factor
24:31
um if you're going with the brass brass has stronger joints it's thinner
24:39
so the wall diameter is not really going to affect your flow it will flow more than the plastic
24:47
um uh the downside was it may corrode over time under uh acidic conditions heavy
24:54
acidic conditions and so if you guys can imagine this if you're
25:00
using it for something other than water you can
25:05
understand that metal would be able to interact with something but um
25:10
the brass that's used in these fittings number one it's lead free it's made for potable water and you want to check on
25:17
the packet to make sure it says that um
25:22
but really that was a just a long way to answer that question but I just want to educate you guys on
25:29
what I found between plastic and brass and uh yeah that's that's the difference
25:35
so you know it's really doesn't have to do with the freezing if it's going to freeze it is going to freeze and it'll
25:41
be a hard freeze so you know thinking about doing the uh
25:48
the antifreeze all right let's move to the next question
25:54
next comment um this one has to do with the cardboard
26:00
template video so I'm going to
26:07
play just a little bit of that after this commercial's over
26:19
so if you guys have watched this video basically this video talks about how you're going to construct a cardboard
26:25
template for cutting out the holes in your van so making it so that it's nice
26:31
and precise and you're not having to go back and make it bigger or
26:36
um hopefully nobody has the issue of you know cutting it the hole too big
26:46
okay so the question was or the the comment
26:52
uh thanks for in-depth tutorial I did the same install after watching this and had a super tight fit my template was
26:58
based on the same outer Dynamic diameter of the inner ring the problem I had with
27:05
it was that the Bulge that there's a bulge around the whole profile of the window
27:10
there's a few millimeters taller than what this template accounts for
27:16
recommended cut on the outside of your Trace template line to give a few extra
27:21
millimeters of clearance I spent hour and a half and a lot of frustration opening the initial cut in
27:28
the van a bit bigger 100 percent
27:36
so what he's talking about is if you guys haven't
27:41
um cut out a window in a van if you're just a DIY and you haven't
27:48
really worked with sheet metal before what he's talking about is when you go
27:55
to cut out sheet metal you really want it to be the the right
28:00
you're following the right line the first time because you have that metal on both
28:05
sides and it's kind of stabilizing the sheet metal as you're cutting it once that inside is gone and you cut it
28:12
out and then you need to cut more out that little strip is not it doesn't have any support
28:20
on the other side so your jigsaw is going to be coming down and it's just it's going to be going crazy and it's
28:25
going to be really hard to define a new line so
28:31
although I really try to kind of push the OCD on this channel so that you guys
28:36
can do it right the first time you know if you feel like you need to
28:42
cut a little bit bigger to fit it in uh you can do that just
28:49
think about how much room it's going to move up and down and as long as that lip
28:54
how do I do this as long as that lip uh the window that
29:01
that goes in there as long as you have enough room to kind of hide that extra bit or seal that extra bit I think
29:08
you're gonna be okay but yeah if you guys are looking to
29:15
learn how to do the uh the cardboard template
29:20
um check out this video
29:27
all right let's go to
29:33
let's go to Robin all right so Robin says yep I thought it'd be easy to end okay this this has
29:40
to do with the Ford Raptor Grille so let's uh play this one
29:57
so this is my personal van I actually I uh this van is getting the Raptor Style
30:03
Grill Thomas's van um did we install that already
30:09
I mean how do I have a picture of that yeah so if you look here
30:14
Thomas's van actually has that uh
30:20
that Ford Raptor style Greer we we installed it it is much easier on the
30:27
2000 20 and above than my van my van was much
30:34
much more difficult see here okay
30:43
um yeah so this this van was much much more difficult so you guys can kind of see
30:52
yeah so you got this one and then Thomas is with the new style
30:59
um now I found these let's get to oh let's get the question
31:11
okay so the question has to do with the Raptor girl Ram said yep I thought it would be easy to install not that it matters just
31:18
ordered a brand new custom from the dealership is supplying and fitting it for me
31:23
gloss black comes standard on the transit Trail that's right so uh if you guys go to uh
31:36
Ford Transit Trail so this is one of the uh
31:42
this this one right here this is the one over in the UK
31:48
so you can kind of see it so if you bought them off of eBay from that one company that provided links to in that
31:54
video you would get this version so they are I don't think they're in the US
32:01
I don't think Robin yeah yeah so she's not she's in the UK
32:07
so she was able to get this one the factory one same one that I
32:13
got but come back here this is the new
32:22
um this is the one for the US and I I've not
32:28
done a deep dived on this yet probably talk about this in a live stream
32:33
um but apparently it has some customization
32:40
uh let's let's just see here it's got 3.5
32:47
liter twin turbo so same engine as this one
32:54
I will drive same it's got a mudded rut High roof same
33:02
a ride height by three and a half inches
33:08
suspension lift and 30.5
33:15
yeah and yeah so so that van is it's the same these
33:22
this has the same same features um it just doesn't have the body it doesn't have like the the fender flares
33:28
so I was wondering I'll look more into it um if you guys know a little bit more
33:34
about this van definitely put that in the comments below
33:41
okay
33:49
yeah but but they're on eBay those uh rapper girls are on eBay the link follow that video link on the website I mean on
33:56
the van Builder HQ and there'll be a link to the uh the eBay eBay pages
34:10
all right Linus this has to do with
34:18
oh yeah okay there's a video where the audio cut out cut it out and um
34:27
yeah if that video um that's gonna be up there forever so it'll just not have audio for that
34:32
a little bit um anyway thanks for letting me know
34:39
if there's something where the audio goes out and it's important I will redo it but if it's if it's not that big of a
34:44
deal it's just going to stay up there forever um Judy
34:50
tour you need to show the insides of the drawers oh yeah let's see here
34:58
man these heads
35:05
let's see if we got any questions nope thank you
35:11
um so she was asking what is wait let me go back she's asking what was in the drawers
35:18
there's nothing in the drawers I all the drawers are empty um whenever I go on
35:25
a big guy with friends I might load it up with like spices and stuff like that and have like uh pot to boil water stuff
35:31
like that but right now it's completely empty there's nothing in the drawers and that the drawers on this it's that is
35:39
literally a Husky toolbox and it's quite noisy but
35:47
um I was I was using it to actually hold heavy tools when I did my handyman business that I had a while back
35:54
and that is a my tools were in the toolbox
36:03
uh see here oh yeah t-ride off-road
36:08
this is the one I wanted to get to um he said in my opinion crl windows are
36:15
overrated junk and I have to say yes I somewhat agree with that but the only thing I have to
36:21
say is you know who else makes Custom Vehicle specific windows in this industry it's it's it's pretty rare uh
36:28
rare um now since we're in that predicament where
36:34
there's not a ton of customized windows I mean you have Ford but it's solid glass it's not going to be vented you
36:41
have cro and if you're careful with crl and then cut cleanly and you know just do a lot
36:47
of prep with like the cardboard templates and stuff you're going to be fine um
36:52
the only downside that I've had and I've had to deal with this is one of the the wind the the vent
36:58
s were up and it had been a week or so since I
37:04
picked it up in Rock Hill South Carolina so that's where I go to pick them up from the distributor
37:10
and I opened the block a week and a half later and the the window was messed up
37:15
and this I don't think this is the best customer service they could improve on this but
37:22
um I caught up and said hey you know uh this uh
37:28
window event won't close all the way I need to just simply bring back down you guys exchange it and then um
37:35
you know have the next one just exchange it now typically uh as a business owner you wouldn't
37:42
charge the customer for another one and then wait to The
37:47
Exchange happen you would credit that give the customer a new window and then
37:53
they would handle the processing so what they did was they actually they uh charge my card
38:02
to order the one that was fixed that a new one and then they waited for the
38:08
processing to get approved before they credited my account back so
38:13
um um I think that's a little weird so as a
38:20
business owner you know I can kind of go back and forth with that no problem but if you were if you were a personal
38:25
diy-er and you bought that they're very expensive so you know
38:30
you your budget probably wasn't allowing for two windows to be purchased while that gets taken care of so I think
38:35
that's something they can improve on um the other thing is
38:41
um they were they were doing uh I don't say a favor but they said it was you know
38:50
it should have came back earlier um but I'm not going to open up all my windows that I order
38:57
to check every single one of them and then well I have to do that now so
39:02
the SOP has changed now now I have to open up every box that I order double check make sure that it's bent so you
39:08
know I can take it back within a week's time anyway that was my rant on crl but uh
39:15
again I mean I mean you know what are you going to do if that is the only vehicle specific window company
39:23
so what I did for you guys is I just went through and these are some that I recommend uh the first one you'll
39:29
probably gonna know about is a van windows direct so van windows Direct
39:35
I think they're out of California um they have camper van windows you can
39:40
go on their website and
39:48
um obviously I'm not affiliated with any of these companies I'm just this is just me
39:53
helping you guys out with some links the van win is direct they have camper
39:58
van windows um they do carry crl
40:04
um then they have van witness direct I think this is their uh
40:09
maybe a white label brand I guess I'm not sure what company actually makes it for them or they actually do produce
40:15
them I'm not sure um am Auto half mug sliders that those are pretty
40:22
popular if you guys under if you know from other videos I'm not a fan of the sliding
40:30
the t-vent uh those are the ones that I'm a fan of because of the the range shedding effect
40:36
that they're able to do um the rain's blowing in at night time you're gonna have to close this so
40:43
this type of where the rain can drip off of it that's what I recommend to everyone not not uh
40:49
not this style so if any Windows Direct you go here
40:55
they've got all the different brands um you know Ford Transit
41:00
low roof medium roof High roof again so this glass is all different the
41:06
medium high roof share is the same uh stamping so essentially you can you know that's
41:13
why that works but anyway um here's what they got
41:20
all right moving to the next option uh
41:25
this is I wouldn't say this is an option these are more for these are RV style windows so these are not van specific
41:32
but if you're doing something kind of wild maybe you had like um like a schooly or you had some type
41:39
of uh you know like a condo line or some some type of Van to where
41:45
you were really just getting in a flat piece of wall and you want a window in it or something like
41:50
that um this is kind of what you would kind of go for
41:56
uh uh see motion windows
42:01
there's a lot of people who like motion windows
42:09
so van windows
42:19
so they've got a pretty
42:27
okay this is just a little look at their
42:34
their website now I personally like crl Windows
42:39
because they they look like Factory glass and they have the vent in them
42:46
that's just my personal opinion we go to
42:53
now okay turn Overland Arctic turn windows from turn Overland
43:00
I really like these and I wanted I want to use them in a future build um
43:07
let me move this window here let me check the comments
43:16
nope
43:22
yeah turn turn over Lynn I like them because they are
43:29
there are two pieces of acrylic I believe
43:36
two pieces of acrylic and so they have a little bit of air space in between them and they have a little bit better r value
43:43
um I mean not that you're gonna have amazing r value with fan windows you're
43:49
still you're still in a van but Arctic turn windows I I like them because of the way that they open
43:56
they're gonna have this uh three position ratcheting action uh you can open them all the way
44:02
and uh they come in very custom sizes so you can if you've
44:10
got a really difficult area of the van that you need to put a
44:16
window in I mean you guys look at this you can just see um all the different measurements here
44:23
and they do provide uh inches
44:31
but they have a lot of cust like I was about to use this because I had a
44:37
event where there I was going to um put a shower in but then I want to do
44:42
the crl but the crl glass would just be behind the shower
44:48
and it wouldn't make sense so the Arctic turn would have made a good option but I already bought I already bought the
44:53
cereal so we're using the cereal um
45:02
yeah turn Overland I like them check this out uh so this is what happens we watch way
45:07
too much YouTube and kind of nerd out on this industry is there's a company called
45:14
uh set saying Van Works
45:22
and they make uh
45:27
custom window jab for the Arctic turn windows so this is really cool
45:34
uh that's not showing up hold on there we go
45:39
so this part right here the window I call the window trim
45:45
this window trim right here this is a it's hard to do by yourself
45:53
this is the piece that you're actually trying to make as a DIY usually and so
45:59
number one if you've never done it before it looks almost impossible second uh
46:07
gluing all these together setting up a router table getting the right dimensions and then just setting
46:13
up shop to make this takes a ton of time so this company makes these so what
46:20
you're seeing here is this is a they're covering this I mean you can
46:25
leave it like the wood I guess if you wanted to because it looks kind of nice um
46:31
but what they've done is they've they've wrapped it it looks like they're using Marathon fabric
46:36
so that gray fabric so the way they've done is they just wrapped this and so now what you do is
46:43
the reason you would buy one of these is the you're taking care of this offset
46:49
between the window and the inside of your van so this is where your wood your
46:54
insulation your 80 20 that Gap this is taken apart that cap
47:01
so when you go here this would be this Arctic turn window
47:08
this is the size that is so weird that it does not show up in on the live stream
47:14
I'm showing you guys a drop down but it's not it's not showing you in real real time anyway that's weird
47:21
um so say I changed this so like 300 by 1100 and then I go down here and I change
47:26
outer to enter and then the outer ring thickness that
47:33
is this right here so you can change it to like if it's you
47:40
have two inches or like 2.8 so however thick your walls are
47:46
you you do the offset and uh
47:52
yeah so you guys can read all this but this just helps you with um
47:59
that's why I like getting into this long form stuff because this is the stuff I want to show and
48:04
teach you guys is you know a little little quick wins like this to where you
48:10
can actually go to turn Overland you find a specific window inside oh yeah see they actually
48:16
have they're linked um and then you can you know have two
48:24
things that actually work together makes it a little much more easier and it's going to give you a much more professional look
48:31
um oh yeah the one thing I did forget the reason you're doing this offset uh
48:36
is also Arctic turn comes in with these bug screens so there's a screen right here
48:43
it's a blackout and then it's a bug screen so
48:48
typically this screen would be on the outs the outside of this window frame but it'd be it would be weird because
48:54
you'd have to make that opening that much bigger to uh get it to fit
49:01
um so by using this offset window jab they call it
49:07
you can cleanly Mount that little blackout bug screen
49:13
okay all right
49:20
so that is that um
49:31
where's the video oh yeah so I did a YouTube short
49:38
and it was talking about the red Arc system and yes I've not made a video about this
49:45
I was going to show you guys about the inverter the red Arc all the good stuff and kind of where the update is so that
49:53
kind of brings us full circle on this live stream uh that'll be when Thomas brings his van
50:00
back we're going to go through a traditional van tour of his van
50:06
so we'll go through all the components um so I'll probably do you know a nice you
50:12
know cinematic one you guys will see later and then when he brings the fan back I'll just do a live stream and I'll
50:18
just we'll just go through each one of the things and then you guys can um
50:23
you guys can uh just chime into the live stream ask
50:29
questions about the components we're going through all right so yeah we'll talk about
50:37
the red arch system future video so that's it for all the YouTube comments
50:44
um let's see here if we go
50:52
oh yeah here we go so final thoughts
50:59
um live stream schedule so for the live stream schedule that's gonna be
51:05
um minimum once a week so once a week chime in we'll do a little uh heads up let you guys know what time we're doing
51:11
the live streams you can you can watch it ask questions and then we do it once a week but then
51:17
anytime that I'm working on a specific project I'll probably uh hop onto here and get things going
51:24
because this is actually this is a mobile this is a mobile
51:29
workstation we can move it around the shop um
51:35
and then YouTube feedback comments for future videos yeah absolutely anytime you guys are
51:41
watching these videos if you have a question about a van component the industry quite uh how to install
51:49
whatever um a specific product or component put that
51:55
in the comments I'll pick it up and I'll think you know there's stuff in the shop that we'll
52:00
we'll hop on and make a video about it so yeah so comments and questions on
52:06
future stuff really really important so love to see that
52:11
um and then you guys so I've got these
52:17
links here so we'll probably break this out so you guys can can actually see oh let me change it
52:24
so I'll kind of do a I'll pre-write pretty much all these live streams so I can just have
52:30
something to go off of all of these links will put together in an article and then that way you guys can just
52:37
click on it um yeah q a in the Stream in the future so
52:44
that's another thing I want to do is just have a live stream where it's just dedicated to you guys coming in and
52:49
asking questions um just q a so we probably won't be working on the the van we won't be
52:55
talking about a specific part we'll just be we'll sit down with with Nova and we'll
53:01
we'll talk about van stuff um so a little q a stream looking
53:06
forward to that all right guys well uh that is it for our first live stream
53:13
I hope you guys enjoyed it uh again every question that you have put in the
53:18
comments below um that is what I'm hoping to drive here with this channel education help you
53:25
guys out the DIY um and even the professional builder
53:30
just kind of building that whole community so thank you guys for watching
53:36
um we're gonna go ahead and get out of here uh get back to some Vans and I hope to see you guys in the next live stream
