1:33
good hey guys welcome back to the live stream today we are finishing up our
1:39
2020 Ford Transit new front bumper and Raptor style Grille install
1:45
uh the reason if you guys did not watch yesterday that we have to do a new bumper is because the old bumper uh
1:52
had some scratches some superfessional official damage on the front from Shipping uh when we bought it from the
1:59
dealer so needed to replace it however we were
2:05
going to go ahead and replace the Grille anyway so it was just easier bumper wise to take the whole thing off
2:11
it's not extremely complicated so if you watch the video uh that we did yesterday you can see me
2:18
take it apart the whole entire thing so we're gonna pop this back in before the weekend gets started if you've ever
2:25
started a project and not finished it remembering where all the nuts and screws and stuff like that go uh you
2:32
need to do it as soon as possible so that is just a pro tip from me and then the next thing that we're going
2:38
to do is we're going to install some yellow fog light bulbs and what's
2:45
really nice is this is a great DIY friendly upgrade you can do to a van so
2:51
instead of buying uh you know expensive Baja design or or something like that fog lights and you want that yellow fog
2:59
light you know look or you actually want some yellow fog lights you can buy these
3:04
they're halogen Factory replacement only thing is that the glass has a yellow tint
3:12
added to it to produce the yellow uh fog light color
3:18
so we'll be installing these because while the Bumper's off it's the easiest way to install these bulbs so we'll do
3:24
that and then finally we'll wrap it up and we'll talk a little bit about the van build DIY cheat sheet that I put
3:30
together it's a curated list of over 250 items that I've personally purchased through
3:36
Amazon over the last three years it's kind of my list to go to when I need to reorder parts and I thought it'd be a
3:43
great list to give out to you guys to help you with your DIY van build
3:49
so if you want to check out the list I'm gonna put the link here in just a second but let's hop over to the computer and
3:54
I'll tell you a little bit more about it
4:01
so if you hop on over to Van Builder HQ
4:06
you can check out this link but then I also have a direct link to this page so what I'm going to do is just copy
4:15
and I'm going to paste this in the chat right here and this is going to take you directly
4:21
to the page where you can get your free cheat sheet now what is the DIY van
4:27
build cheat sheet so let's hop on over right to it and show you exactly what it is so like I was saying earlier it's a list
4:34
of all the curated items that I have purchased over Amazon over the last three years so all the electrical items
4:40
fuses dimmer switches Blue Sea Systems you name it Fasteners stuff that I use
4:47
for 80 20 putting Vans together even the small diesel heaters off of
4:53
Amazon one of those I have in my van I'll be adding more to this list it's a
4:58
living document so the more stuff I find the more stuff is going to go in this list it'll be instantly updated and you
5:05
guys will have access to that one of the most important things on this list the thing that I think is the most valuable
5:11
is the tools section so if you want to find out what tools that I used when I got started and has helped me
5:18
professionally build Vans quicker and easier then this list of tools is
5:23
excellent everything from hydraulic cable crimping tools PEX tools for uh
5:30
putting in you know like PEX a fittings into your van tubing cutters
5:36
crimpers hole saws you name it it is on this list and this list is completely
5:43
free just hop on over to the link in the description below you're going to get your free cheat sheet just put your name
5:49
and email address it's going to come directly to your inbox and I really believe that this list is going to help
5:56
you with your van build Journey it's just a place to go to and instead of
6:01
combing the internet and finding parts and wondering if they're going to work you can go from a list that I've actually physically purchased the item I
6:08
use it in a van so it kind of helps you vet some products
6:13
but anything we talk about we'll update that list as we uh as time goes on so you'll have most updated lists but yeah
6:21
put your name email address in that link click on it it'll send it right to your inbox and uh I think it really is going
6:29
to help you guys out on your DIY van builds let's get back to the bumper and
6:34
Grill so like I was saying earlier uh the weekend's coming up and
6:41
if you're in the middle of a project especially something working on your van think ahead of time if you need to stop
6:47
and uh if you're going to stop in the future and you need to kind of complete
6:53
something before you forget how you do it so that's what we're doing right now before the weekend starts we're going to
6:59
finish this right here and even though Nova is very comfortable she is going to have to move
7:05
because we are going to pop this in so let's see here let me pop this up
7:12
the first thing we're going to do and I apologize for the coughing I have
7:18
a little bit of a cold here so uh it might come through a little bit on the microphone but we're going to flip this
7:23
around and we're going to put in the fog light bulb first so I've not snapped this
7:29
Grille in this is just laying here because I want to show you guys exactly how it goes in it's really really simple it literally
7:36
just snaps into place
7:42
also throughout the stream today if you guys want to ask any question van
7:47
related put those in the chat I'll pause on this and I'll hop on over the computer and answer any questions you
7:53
have all right so
7:58
let's see Nova if you can move
8:06
let's see here maybe we can yeah let's spin this around that way I
8:11
can show you where the bulbs go in
8:19
it's probably pretty cool to see a bumper like this because
8:25
you know you may Wonder kind of what what's behind the scenes of these big Vans and it's just a bunch of
8:32
plastic really bunch of plastic making it look nice
8:37
with some stuff in between so as we're looking at the back of this we have uh we've got two
8:47
let me say hey to Jamie here
8:52
[Music]
8:58
let's see here we've got DIY van build
9:06
cheat sheet and then that is the link DIY van build cheat sheet
9:21
okay so I'm gonna put the link in here one more time
9:27
perfect all right so we have our bumper hmm
9:33
let me get some water I think it's going to make the stream better for you guys
9:43
but basically I'm going to go and get the bulbs here and bring them over and we're gonna pop them in
10:02
so the factory bulbs that come out of here
10:07
these are an h8 so this is designation
10:13
and then these are yellow fog lights so you may have uh if you're online you may
10:21
have a selection of Kelvin temperature so you might see something like three thousand or four
10:27
thousand Kelvin and that has to do with the yellowness of the light I forgot exactly what these
10:33
are I online I went ahead and looked for
10:39
this I wanted to upgrade to maybe the LED pop-in bulbs however the challenge is
10:47
there were some comments about flickering so the way that
10:52
Ford or maybe another manufacturer does this depending on what this connection is
11:00
or you know if you're going with uh like a no-name brand LED is sometimes you can
11:05
have flickering and just normal quality issues and it doesn't really play too well so
11:11
what you can do is this was the kind of old school way uh back when I started customizing cars
11:18
to change your bulbs so I used to have a 93 S10 Blazer that was
11:24
lowered and uh that I had in high school and college
11:29
and this is kind of the way that I upgraded those Vehicles because
11:34
if you think about it a couple years ago uh the LEDs and stuff that we have now that technology it didn't exist or if we did
11:43
it was very dim and it wasn't really usable I actually got pulled over a couple times because the LEDs in my rear
11:49
tail lights you couldn't distinct distinguish the brake light being on versus off so that was kind of funny
11:57
but so I knew when I was looking for these lights if you go on and look type in h8 yellow it's going to give you LEDs
12:03
but these are halogens so they're the exact same as the factory bulb exactly
12:09
the same except the glass is tinted yellow that's how it emits a yellow light
12:14
ER Sylvania um very good company the factory uses Phillips but Philips and Sylvania
12:22
they're pretty much the go-to as far as the automotive industry you know this is something you could expect to get uh
12:28
quality when you purchase a van like this from the factory so we're gonna open
12:33
this box and we're going to put them in it's really easy
12:40
it is easy if I have my scissors where do my scissors go
12:51
also be careful uh when you guys are upgrading your vehicles
12:56
um if you're in
13:06
certain States municipalities are going to have different laws as far as if you can modify the lighting
13:14
on your vehicle technically these are well these are fog lights and this is where fog light use
13:19
only so we're okay but if you were going with uh
13:25
any other item that is off-road use only really pay attention to that because a lot of this stuff is not DOT compliant
13:31
when you start upgrading your van and just as a heads up it's it'll look cool you may not get pulled over but if
13:39
you stick with stuff like this um you should be fine as far as uh you know
13:45
not breaking any laws but something to think about all right so I'm going to take one bulb
13:51
make sure you do not touch the glass it's very important
14:03
and just put it in a quarter turn and you're good to go now we're going to take our plug
14:09
and we're going to put it in here
14:14
and we're going to
14:22
there's only one way that this can go in here and so if you pull out the bulb
14:30
and let's just look at the bottom of this bulb so if we're looking at this one going in
14:36
and we pull it straight up there's a little fingers going straight down so we need to make sure that our plug
14:42
has this slit come on the back side and that allow it to
14:49
snap right in if you had it the other way it's not going to go in take our other bulb come over here
14:57
just put it in do a quarter turn
15:06
same thing slit going towards us put it pop it in
15:11
the next thing we're going to do is we're going to find the holes in here
15:17
um that allowed this cable to be managed so
15:24
a little Cable Management in here so we need to find where
15:29
a couple of these snap in parts are
15:37
okay so we got one down here and we've got one here they just snap right in
15:44
this right here holds it just like that okay that one's good so this one's
15:50
managed now we're going to come over here
15:58
we've got this cable it goes in and
16:03
and then we have this other white piece right here okay so that's all good to go
16:10
last but not least we have our main connection plug and so you're going to want to put uh
16:18
I'm going to flip this around you won't be able to see it but make sure that you take these pieces right here and snap
16:24
them back into the body so this doesn't so when you're riding down the road
16:30
you don't have this flopping around on you with
16:37
once again guys anybody have questions just put those
16:42
into the chat all right we're going to back up flip this around and put this on the bumper
16:49
if you guys are doing any other modifications to your van and you've taken the step to
16:56
I have to move my camera this is a good place to
17:02
do any wiring like if you wanted to add any additional fog lights you want to upgrade your horns or
17:10
you know you're doing like some winch cabling or power cables or anything like that
17:15
uh obviously now would be the time to do it
17:22
but what we're going to do here is we're going to move this in I'm going to go ahead and plug in
17:30
this connection over here
17:42
so it looks like we're gonna have to plug that in after we put the bumper on
17:50
let's lift it up and also make sure when you do this
17:55
you're not pinching any cables
18:05
and then on these outside pieces you're going around the outside of the plastic
18:10
supports
18:19
all right
18:33
foreign there's a clip up here and I think I
18:40
moved it last time I was working on this so
18:48
I need to go in and slide it over there we go
19:05
so I'm sitting it on top of the lip of the bumper right here in the middle
19:12
just like that
19:19
just making sure it's on top of what it needs to be on top of okay
19:25
so over here let's see if we can
19:32
I'm going to put a bolt this big bolt in here
19:49
just to help me out so the whole thing doesn't fall off because I need to pull
19:54
this off over here so I can get to plug in so I can plug in the
20:03
the fog light cable
20:23
let's change this up a little bit if you guys can see me there we go
20:55
all right let's put on that cable
21:02
good
21:13
foreign
21:20
yes I need this to be lower so we're going to take this off
21:55
we had two people it'd be nice
22:01
okay so we got our cable here
22:07
and those retaining holes we really want to make sure that we get the cable in there
22:13
so this thing does not slap around all over the place foreign
23:02
we got it now we can sit back on top
23:15
there we go
23:22
all right so now that we have this in place there's two plastic snaps that we want to look for
23:30
one is right here and one is right here it's a big big
23:35
snap there's no way you can miss it and it just pops in and then over here
24:02
we go and the right side pops in
24:11
all right I think we got one more underneath here
24:18
it's located right there so one two three and that kind of just
24:23
initially holds this into place
24:28
and then we can just start working on doing everything in reverse
24:50
foreign
24:56
screw straight down in here and it locates this piece this piece and the
25:02
plastic support member the plastic support mirror on this left side is adjustable by one screw up here
25:09
so keep it loose so you can find out where everything lands and then put that one screw in and it's
25:16
going to set all of it
25:43
all right if you guys have any questions ask me
25:48
some questions while I'm working on this that'd be that'd be great
26:10
foreign
26:18
so this side's good
26:24
okay I'm gonna push in this bumper right here and there's a there's a body Gap right here so I need to loosen this
26:33
to make sure it looks right so I'm going to push this in
26:39
and hold it and then tighten it down
26:51
okay so now that's nice nice and clean
26:59
all right next
27:10
some pieces next we got these plastic pieces and they are between here and here
27:18
so we're gonna put them in
27:24
and say they lock that in from the from moving
28:30
foreign
29:12
here so you're gonna need a mini ratchet with a T25 Torx
29:46
all right so that's perfect
29:51
foreign
30:24
Thomas
31:05
foreign
32:28
foreign
33:04
there we go that's what was missing
33:09
now
33:42
foreign
34:57
I gotta keep my knee over here on this side because it keeps popping the body wants
35:04
to keep popping out
35:15
it's amazing how much they can do on a computer with all these body parts and then have them be able to line up
35:22
through so precisely
35:27
in the real world is what I meant because anything's possible on the computer but trying to get the
35:36
the production process and Plastics
35:41
expansion contraction all that stuff it's pretty cool
35:48
okay so that
35:53
is pretty good
36:01
bottom section see if I can push it in a little bit
36:16
oh that might be better in Factory right there nice
36:21
all right next we are going to make sure the left
36:27
side's snapped in
37:02
there we go so before we snap this top piece in we're gonna
37:08
get this bolted down
37:33
all right
37:57
and you actually might you may have to
38:09
turn your wheels to get into this back section it's pretty tight
38:15
back section is pretty tight
38:51
foreign now
38:56
we have our Fender over here and I'm gonna leave these on until last
39:03
to snap those in so next thing we're going to do is come
39:09
over here to the other side
39:15
make sure we got all of our tools here
39:36
okay
39:49
it's not the most exciting stream today but if you guys are taking off your bumper and you don't know how to
39:55
you want to see it literally a complete start to finish of this then
40:03
this is your video
40:48
okay we got this side popped in everything is looking good
40:56
there's a 10 millimeter bolt that is the support for this side
41:01
and you just need to make sure that it is tight so that if you loosen it up
41:07
let's make sure you tighten it so they're going to tighten both of those 10 millimeters
41:14
and then what we'll do is we'll start on the bottom
41:20
I guess we can work our way at the top
41:38
there you go all right so that looks excellent
41:54
all right
42:01
all right so we'll go into the bottom last let's just take a minute and go up
42:07
here and pop in a couple of these
42:12
screws up top
42:19
so we got three bolts and then we've got so we've got a bolt over here on the
42:24
left bolt right here in the middle or
42:30
slightly middle and then we've got see one over here
42:38
there's one right here four so we got four
43:20
oh
43:28
all right guys we got a couple more people in the Stream here so today what we're doing is we are working on
43:33
for Transit but we are making sure that that we're not making sure we are
43:40
installing a new bumper at the bottom because the other one got uh scratched up during transportation and
43:47
that's no good nobody wants a scuffed up bumper so nothing wrong with it just
43:53
didn't look good on the front we're installing the Ford Transit I mean the Ford Raptor style Grille from the transit Trail
44:00
and then we installed some yellow fog light bulbs and both of the fog lights
44:21
and I'm just getting some sockets over here so I can put on the top of the
44:28
top bolts
44:36
okay missing a socket here and then feel free to ask any questions if you guys
44:41
have any questions about van building in general I'll pause hop over on the computer and we can chat about that
44:49
if you guys want to or have a question
44:55
earlier earlier we talked about our DIY van build cheat
45:00
sheet so it's a curated list to help you guys choose Parts when you are working on your
45:08
transit or Sprinter doesn't really matter it's just any other any type of uh van you may be we're working on
45:15
but that link is in the description at the bottom
45:22
okay so
45:51
hmm
46:02
foreign
46:36
all right I don't know where that socket went so we're just gonna have to do the big socket that's okay just got to go
46:42
easy
46:50
oh that's right it was 10 millimeter
46:56
which I think is it 10 millimeter socket or wrench if you have one it's always the one to
47:02
get lost quickly it's probably with my motorcycle kit
47:33
foreign
48:40
foreign
48:47
the snap in caps so these just kind of find their place
48:57
snap in
49:18
all right we are getting closer
49:26
let's go ahead and grab our headlights the left one first
49:38
and now this this headlight actually has a place to hold the cable and be careful
49:43
when you pull this back because the bulbs are glass on here
49:51
and you do not want to break them
50:34
and the left side there's like a little rubber rubber
50:40
metal bracket but it has a rubber Groove attached to this and then just kind of holds that into
50:47
place just like that
50:54
foreign
51:12
t30s or what you're going to put that in with
52:18
foreign
52:32
feels good let's get it up to the light
53:25
foreign
54:03
and that'll be it for the headlights
54:54
foreign
55:09
we're gonna finish the bottom bolts and then we're gonna put in the Raptor Grill shut the hood we're gonna be done
55:15
so if you have any questions uh yeah put those in the chat and I'll be happy to
55:21
answer them uh they don't get answered now definitely can answer them later
55:30
when I go through and answer comments during the week
55:44
thank you
56:24
thank you
56:45
thank you
57:29
foreign
58:43
foreign
59:40
guys if you're just tuning in feel free to ask any questions about Vans van builds anything like that
59:47
be happy to answer it I'm just finishing up putting this new
59:52
bumper on and also if you're just new or just coming in uh we're doing this
59:59
because we had a couple of uh scratches on the front bumper
1:00:05
and we don't have any bumper damage it's just some superficial stuff on the outside and
1:00:11
since we were putting in the Ford Transit Grille uh this would be this was a good time to just go ahead and and
1:00:17
pretty much do everything just get the bumper on get the grill on we upgraded the fog lights so they have
1:00:25
yellow bulbs in them so that's gonna look really cool this metal piece right here was missing
1:00:30
on the other bumper so we we added that
1:00:37
yep and so really just kind of going through these last
1:00:42
bolts on the bumper here
1:01:17
foreign
1:02:07
foreign
1:02:25
foreign
1:03:29
we're going to snap on the side the size for the plastic
1:03:46
then we're gonna put the grill on and then we'll be done with the stream today
1:04:47
foreign
1:04:54
there's going to be four more screws to put in and then we'll be done done
1:05:02
those four screws there's two on each side and they just hold in
1:05:07
this uh this piece
1:05:25
actually they're not screws they are the plastic the plastic
1:05:34
snap in pieces so we got one two three
1:05:42
three where's our fourth
1:05:48
okay one more round here somewhere there it is one two three four perfect
1:06:04
foreign
1:06:15
fog lights before we get this far but technically
1:06:20
we can go underneath there and reach in and replace it but
1:06:26
yeah double checking things that will probably be a good idea
1:06:34
it's okay we'll go ahead and uh let's turn the lights on before we pop in the grill
1:06:46
all right let's see unlock
1:06:52
s good to me
1:07:17
there we go
1:07:25
there are yellow fog lights looking pretty good
1:07:33
and look at that yellow on camera but they're they're yellow for sure
1:07:46
[Music]
1:07:51
okay so bulbs work
1:08:01
so next let's pop the grill in
1:08:09
all right this moment you guys have all been waiting for this is really easy so all we're gonna do
1:08:17
check this out and this is a grill if you don't know how to get this check
1:08:23
out the last live stream I put a link and a description on eBay where you can buy these they're not available in the
1:08:29
United States you have to buy them overseas sometimes they ship from Greece uh it
1:08:34
just depends on where you're getting them but here's the clips excuse me this middle part you have to
1:08:41
be careful of if you have the windshield washer or the front camera you're going to want to make sure that you get the holes that
1:08:48
are pre-cut out on here you can buy them pre-cut out but you got to be specific on what you search for
1:08:54
if you do there's a little computer board that goes right here and gets bolted in so when you go to rip this out
1:09:02
be very careful that you don't rip it out if you do have those sensors here because the cable is not that long
1:09:09
we had some issue uh pulling this out because it's a little tab right here caught pretty good right
1:09:16
there that's normal however I had not taken it out of a grill that
1:09:23
this came out so uh that was a challenge so just be careful this is pretty strong here so you should
1:09:30
be able to rip that off but when you're finished all you're going to do
1:09:37
is just put the grill in here like this and uh just push it in at the bottom
1:09:44
like that the bottom snapped in and then just start kind of work your way up sides
1:09:50
like that and then finally you're going to come up
1:09:55
to the top
1:10:11
and there it goes it is an actual Ford part so this is going to
1:10:16
it is going to be in there I'm just making sure that between the O and the r this middle
1:10:24
piece got seated feels good
1:10:29
there you go guys the Ford Transit Trail Grille or the transit trail from
1:10:36
the UK now in the USA so they but they fit perfect
1:10:42
the only thing that some people are concerned about is this little hole right here I believe that's for a hood
1:10:48
lock um just so people don't get into your hood apparently that's the thing overseas
1:10:55
but this is what it looks like um I'll be on the stream just for a couple more minutes let me know if you guys have any
1:11:02
questions I'm going to clean some stuff up but yeah another minute here
1:11:09
and we will get back to uh closing out the day
1:11:15
so before we do close out I wanted to talk to you guys about the DIY van build cheat sheet
1:11:23
so let me get over here so you can see me
1:11:32
all right let's talk about the DIY van build cheat sheet that I put together so this cheat sheet is essentially like
1:11:39
an Excel sheet of over 250 items that I've bought over the last three years on Amazon stuff that I use in the shop
1:11:46
four building Vans it's anything from fuses uh all kinds of stuff like that
1:11:51
I'm going to show you the list if you haven't seen it um that way you can see what exactly is on there but uh if you're if you were
1:11:58
looking for a list that could help you kind of kick start your van build and what I mean by that is instead of
1:12:04
combing the internet looking for parts and wondering if that's a good part and kind of buying it and then uh not being
1:12:10
so sure uh this is curated items that I've personally purchased through Amazon
1:12:16
and it's the stuff that I use in the shop as well as the tools so let's get
1:12:21
on the computer and let me show you what I'm talking about
1:12:26
so over here is the landing page for the van build sheet
1:12:31
cheat sheet so I'm going to pop this into
1:12:39
the chat I'm actually gonna be back up there we
1:12:44
go
1:12:51
here we go so I just put that in the chat when you click on it
1:12:56
what this is going to do is it's going to open this page right here that you see
1:13:01
excuse me
1:13:06
and when you put your name and email address this is what's going to come directly to your inbox it's this list right here
1:13:13
so it's a organized list of all those products I talked about it's everything from electrical so you know if you're
1:13:21
looking over here you've got Blue Sea Systems we've got the uh four position uh AC
1:13:30
panel that I use for the AC circuits then we got the battery on off switch
1:13:35
that's when we used in Thomas's van just a ton of stuff fasteners like we used for our 80 20.
1:13:43
um stuff that we use in the kitchen like the induction stove that I use also we have the most important thing on
1:13:50
this list that I believe that's going to help you is the tools so these are all the tools that I've bought
1:13:56
off of Amazon that I use in the shop and I 100 use these tools everything
1:14:02
from this uh Weller soldering station that I just solder all the you know LED lighting
1:14:08
from the strip lightings pieces together I also have you know hole saws that I've
1:14:16
used to drill holes to put gauges and stuff like that in um I've got the hydraulic crimper so I use
1:14:23
this all the time for crimping electrical uh lugs wire lugs and then
1:14:29
for PEX a you know we have like the cripping tools the cutting tools uh the Milwaukee uh PEX tubing uh of the propex
1:14:38
expansion tool kit stuff like that I mean there's even more stuff so check
1:14:44
out that so right now we're up to 255 items now this is a living document so I actually
1:14:52
update this so when you put your name and email address click download now it'll come straight
1:14:58
to your inbox what that's going to do is in the future when I go to
1:15:05
uh when I buy new parts and stuff like that for example the yellow lights that
1:15:11
we put on here those will be on the list and that way you can see exactly what that product is there's more products
1:15:16
that I'll be putting on that list in the future but just know it's a living document so when you go to access it it
1:15:22
will be updated um hope you guys enjoyed this video I hope you enjoy your weekend we are
1:15:29
finished installing the uh Ford Raptor style Grille on this van and we'll be moving on to
1:15:35
some other items that are on the way they're being shipped here to go on the inside specifically the kitchen galley
1:15:42
then the overhead cabinets we're getting those from Flatline vanco so look forward to seeing those soon and uh the
1:15:49
DIY cheat sheet download it it's really going to help you out click on the link
1:15:56
below if you have any questions put those in the comments below I always like to look for questions that we can
