thank you [Music]
0:54
thank you hey everyone welcome back to our live stream today we are working on trimming
1:01
the lawn seal so this is our lawn seal flooring it's a vinyl floor
1:06
and it's designed to be put on with a two-part epoxy that a lawn seal makes
1:13
and sells and so we've purchased this and we're going to get ready to trim it so what
1:19
you want to do when you purchase any type of vinyl flooring that's just my opinion and from
1:26
doing it before is you want to lay it out and then trim the excess that you're
1:31
going to have now you can roll it in and then you know after it's glued down trim
1:37
as you go however it makes it really challenging to push the sides in and get a good Bond on the
1:44
corners of just any of the edges possibly will make it messy and then the
1:50
roller that you're going to need to roll this floor down it'll make it challenging to actually do that part as
1:56
well so we're going to go over that I hope you guys enjoy this new setup we are now streaming in 4k we did a test
2:03
yesterday so this stream should look pretty good I'm really
2:08
happy about the details with the the new camera and I think it's going to benefit you guys so you can see in more detail
2:15
what's going on here in the shop so we're going to need a couple things in here
2:20
besides the flooring we're not gluing the floor and end by the way we are just
2:25
going to roll it out and then trim it
2:31
um so I'm going to fix the camera into its first position
2:36
so we got a couple positions with the camera this is the first angle so it's
2:42
going to snap here and then that way I can actually
2:47
line this up really quick there you go so that way when we're down here in the
2:53
floor the camera is not going to be hunting all around because it's actually on a Gimbal and it'll actually move and track
2:59
me but that's going to be distracting for you guys so um but what we got to do is get this all
3:06
framed up so if this sits like this so I'm going to start the video here
3:11
but if you guys haven't seen the stream before the second position goes here and
3:16
that locks it so that when we get in the van in a minute and I'm showing you how to actually lay this out
3:24
you guys can see me here and kind of what I'm doing on the floor because we're going to be working back
3:30
here first and then we'll roll it out come back here to the back
3:35
and then for example you know later in the week we're going to be working on the AC unit so this third
3:41
snap Bowl Position will show the top of the roof and then this is the fourth one
3:47
and I won't be doing this a lot but I'll show you that it actually will follow me and I was thinking about using it to
3:54
kind of do this and then talk over here but uh it does freak out sometimes so this
4:02
might not be the best but you know if it's working and we're talking about here in the water system or we come over here and we're talking
4:09
about the power system it kind of follows around but area
4:14
it's a cool feature but I know it can get distracting so we just whenever you
4:19
see the camera jerk like that going in the future is just locking into a position
4:25
so we can uh start the video all right
4:31
let's go ahead and kick this off so let's talk about the materials you're going to need to
4:37
do a layout and trim of the floor
4:42
so I can't remember where I found this technique out but we're actually going to use two wood screws
4:49
so you need two wood screws and we're going to drill one here not in this
4:55
metal we're using this metal as reference and then the second piece uh which we'll
5:01
actually put in first X is going to go all the way up here and it's going to go in the center of
5:07
the floor so we have our Center rib of the van Center so we're going to Mark where that
5:13
is on the wood and uh all the way down front middle and the back and then once we do that we'll
5:20
lock it we'll roll the lonso out and we'll lock the floor in after we align it and then that way
5:28
all we have to do is one we can practice how we're going
5:33
to glue the floor in by flipping it over flipping it back two it's gonna well I guess One's Gonna
5:40
line it up two is going to be able to kind of help you practice the install
5:45
and then three what it's going to do is you'll find the middle and then that'll now be your home
5:52
reference point so once we trim it and we take it out when we put it back in to put the
5:58
adhesive on there you'll have the screw hole still there where it needed to be
6:03
screw hole is in the lawn seal and it just makes a process much easier
6:10
so two wood screws um I always just keep this green tape I
6:16
love this you guys see me using the shop all the time just I don't know stick something down
6:22
you'll need a drill so that you can drill in the wood screws and then you're going to need
6:31
a tape measure and then you're going to need two
6:37
uh two of these guys so these are
6:45
essentially like box cutters but they're by olfa
6:51
olfa it doesn't matter what kind you get I just there's no affiliation with this
6:57
brand but these uh if you guys watch home renovision
7:03
um that YouTube channel he swears by these and that's where I got these from
7:08
and they're amazing and the best thing is they sell them at Lowe's so what's nice is it's Japanese steel
7:15
that's inside these razors and it's extremely Sharp and I have two of these and we're going
7:22
to use this to make our trim cuts all right so we got that
7:28
and that's it that means we're gonna get ready to go now
7:34
one thing I did forget is my permanent marker see if you guys have joined the live
7:39
stream before I have lots of them but I can't find them so
7:44
give me just a second and I'm gonna find where I laid those down
7:50
I just need one but
7:59
I can find my permanent marker
8:08
so what the permanent marker is going to do is it is there so that we can
8:14
uh that says this one's fine this is good it's my giant one but it'll be fine
8:23
so the permit marker is so that we can find our Center and find the limits to
8:28
our end covers end caps whatever you want to call them
8:34
so this bottom piece right here this is our trim piece now the kit that we got
8:41
uh no affiliation here but I'm going to show you go to my face and let me go to the
8:48
website
8:53
so there's no affiliation with this company I just like giving you guys really good information so we're going to head on over to
8:59
avcreig.com this is the company that I got the floor
9:05
pan floor plans from as well as
9:10
um the trim pieces
9:16
so if we go to Van type Transit High roof it doesn't really matter we're going to kind of come to the same
9:22
page so the first thing we did is I'll show you their high-end product
9:28
so this is their insulated floor system this system is already ready to go
9:35
it is a essentially a zip sheathing system that has the half inch
9:41
plywood with the in with the one inch rigid foam insulation that is made
9:48
together as one piece has an R value of about 6.6
9:54
and I think that is include that the wood the wood is making it have that higher r value because this is uh that
10:02
the system I'm using is R5 so this one's just a little bit better with a 6.6 but I think that is taken to
10:09
an account the wood insulated value but don't quote me on that anyway you can purchase this system
10:16
right here uh and have it shipped to you if this is something that's in your
10:23
budget and you don't want to pre-cut this out you want to save time then also maybe you just uh the handyman skills
10:30
aren't there for doing precise work which is completely fine you know there's a DIY van for every
10:37
single level now if you're like me and you're going to
10:43
cut a bunch of uh holes out of the floor and maybe you
10:48
don't want to waste that material that's going to be cut away anyway because I'm essentially cutting about a
10:54
third of this floor out so
11:00
you know I thought it would be more advantageous to Source my own plywood I got it from
11:07
Lowe's and I used their ABC rig Transit paper pattern floors
11:14
and it's essentially like a blueprint style paper you know it's a
11:19
big paper that's been printed out on a plotter which is just an oversized printer and so it's full size so you basically
11:26
just lay it down on a piece of wood and trace it out you're good to go and the cost is much uh
11:36
less expensive Plus you can reuse it you know if you want to
11:42
or maybe if you need to fix something say you mess something up you can put on another piece of plywood and cut it out
11:48
again and you can reuse the paper it's pretty nice now the uh
11:54
ABC trim floor step and trim this is what I'm talking about right now so this
12:02
piece right here you can buy as a kit it comes with this little four floor step threshold
12:09
it comes with the rear of the van as well as the front step part
12:17
are the transition piece between the driver and passenger seat in the back of the van now they have since modified you can see
12:24
how there's these holes drilled into it so mine was one of the early versions because
12:32
it was just an early version all right but you can buy this kit
12:39
comes with grip tape some stickers this back part right here
12:45
this little cap is so that you can cover the rear
12:52
spare tire cap cover that way that way you can have the cap to re-access
12:59
the floor uh little winches in the floor if you still wanted to use that on for
13:05
our setup we're not using that anymore so the floor is just covering that because we have oversized our tires
13:10
which means there's no reason to use that underfloor pan anymore
13:16
at the future cup customer wants to use it they can all you gotta do is just drill a hole through the floor they're good to go
13:22
but this kit is pretty nice because you can see it cleans up the rear of the van really nice and believe it or not this
13:29
is the exact floor that we're going to be putting in the Ford Transit so when we're done ours is going to look just
13:36
like this so black on black really nice and clean and this rear panel they have multiple
13:44
screw holes in there we'll see about that when we get close I may use Marine adhesive on this back
13:50
part instead of the screws so that's still up in the air we're just going to do one thing uh everything one step at a
13:57
time but essentially this is what the rear of the floor is going to look like and my van
14:04
all right and that kit is uh that's the current pricing
14:10
and they're powder coated very well and it's uh it's hard to find another kit as
14:16
well made as this again it's not sponsored it's just I have really done my research and looked a lot of stuff on
14:23
the internet and it's hard to find good quality powder coated material that's not painted Steel
14:30
so you have to really make sure something's powder coated powder coated versus painted is completely two different worlds it has to do with the
14:38
the prep and the bonding process as well as the material used and powder coat is
14:45
premium It's Gonna Last way longer and this is a high wear area
14:51
so you want to make sure it's powder coated all right let's get started here so now
14:57
that you guys know where to find these trim panels what we're going to do is we're going to
15:05
measure from the back on this edge with our opponent marker that we finally found
15:11
and this measuring on this back side we're going to find the offset from the
15:16
edge of the floor we're going to do that because that's how far in or how far from The Edge are
15:24
screw is going to go so we're going to put that in the center of whatever we measure we're going to go to the front of the
15:30
van we're also going to go take that offset go to the center of whatever that
15:36
measured and then that makes sure that wherever we screw or screw in the screw hole that we drill will always be
15:42
covered by a trim piece so you'll never see it once the trim piece goes down
15:49
last thing I'm going to do is drill a hole in our nice vinyl that we will see later so we want
15:56
to make sure it covers is covered up so let's go ahead and do that real quick
16:06
so back here we just got our piece and we're going to kind of just go for whatever we think is about Center we're
16:12
just going to make a line and we'll Define the true Center here
16:17
going this way in a minute but now we can take this piece off
16:22
and you guys can see what it looks like now
16:30
so this is going to allow us to know where we can locate our screw hole
16:36
we're going to go to the front and we're going to do the same thing
16:44
the front trim piece is pretty much the same it just doesn't have a curve in it so we're going to lay this over
16:57
kind of get try to get close to the center as you can you make the line wider if you need to
17:04
and then we're just going to take that off
17:14
and then since our pieces of wood are cut out on this back side
17:21
um let's see here I'm actually going to take my drywall Square
17:27
if you guys don't have one of these it's okay but the method might have to be
17:32
different a drywall square is nice because it's very long
17:40
it's made for drywall but this is a drywall square if you guys have not seen one before
17:46
all right I call it a drywall Square it's just a very long Square
17:51
and this way we can go and find our Center rib right here
18:00
just going to line this up and then we're going to put it right
18:06
there in the middle and then we're just going to translate that Center
18:11
up here and we're going to just put a
18:16
little Mark in the middle and now that is the center of
18:22
we're going to put the front piece in the back we just do the opposite
18:36
before I forget I let this sit in the sun outside about 20 minutes before we
18:41
came in here so it's still kind of residually warm if you guys can do that it's a bonus but
18:48
you don't have to do that it's gonna just gonna make it easier to
18:53
unravel it so now what I'm going to do is I'm just going to
18:58
draw a line right here and that way we're just going to be able to move our Square
19:07
and we obviously won't be using the back to square this line up but we're just gonna
19:13
get it as close as possible because it's not the end of the day if this is off a little bit but
19:20
I like to try to be perfect first and then
19:26
change it up later if I have to close to perfect how about that
19:33
all right so now we've got our Point here and then we got our point up there in the front
19:40
that's right one thing I wanted to do is actually I want to draw two more lines since I'm
19:45
kind of teaching you guys I wouldn't normally do this but
19:50
I think it's all help Drive the point home a little bit better so we're just going to take this
19:57
and make a couple marks just like that
20:06
almost like a Runway again this is more for teaching purposes
20:11
um now where this would be would be beneficial to you is
20:17
if you do want to use this as a method to make sure you're not putting too much
20:23
epoxy on one side
20:29
it's just a good reference mark when we go to put the epoxy on we'll
20:34
want to make sure that we come close to this and then
20:40
you know do our epoxy because when we flip it over we'll do the other side
20:48
all right let's see if you guys can see that on this camera the new camera
20:55
oh it's awesome that's that's better than I expected Let's do
21:01
let's do some more here in the back
21:09
all right so let's continue it on the back here
21:17
okay so now we got our Runway marks there
21:22
and that's just going to help guide us this whole process
21:32
so we don't need our trim pieces anymore take them out of the van
21:46
okay now we're going to open up our our package
22:00
and make sure you do not cut into the other part of the package
22:09
I try to do everything by hand as much as I could first and then
22:15
bring out the razor the crazy thing is this this thing is
22:20
extremely sharp I mean just like barely lay it on there and it will cut I'm just like barely
22:29
barely put any pressure on that you don't want you don't want to cut into the lawn so it's very resilient but
22:37
it's obviously not meant to be cut by the razor
22:46
this is not too loud
22:54
now you may need depending uh on what you want to do you may need to
22:59
have somebody help you this roll is about 65 pounds
23:37
thank you
24:33
there's no special way to do this so this may be entertaining for you guys
24:58
foreign
26:01
so hopefully this shows you the point of you know pre-cutting it to get it as
26:07
close as you can because if you you can't imagine if you can imagine doing this
26:13
while you're trying to spread the epoxy so
26:19
that is why this is what you want to do ahead of time
26:26
okay so this is
26:31
see how wide this is
26:37
six feet wide yeah so we're gonna take our green tape
26:42
I'm gonna put a little bit of tape on our
26:49
three foot Mark or we'll find we'll find our Center
26:54
at three feet I mean this is going to help us line up
27:00
that part that I was talking to you guys about
27:21
foreign
27:47
there
28:04
and we're just going to shift it so we can do the other side and then we'll just go we'll do the same thing at the front
28:18
it also depends on what lawn seal you actually get because this one is uh
28:24
this is one of the thicker versions so they have different types of
28:31
protection
28:53
so they still at six feet but it's a little bit longer than six feet I'm a little bit wider
28:59
than six feet which is okay
29:04
all right so we just made two lines so we're obviously just gonna go in the middle of those middle of that we always
29:10
do the front first that way we can square it up from the cut so as long as
29:16
whoever you're getting it from has cut it Square which this one looks really Square
29:23
it should be pretty good
29:55
if you guys have any questions feel free to ask them in the chat while we're doing all this
30:09
foreign
30:36
if you can measure it try to get it closer to the edge so you'd know are there your markings
30:44
that is and we can get as accurate as as you can
30:52
you want the accuracy because we're going to take this out and we go to put the lawn seal back in we want it to be
30:59
you know perfectly where we left it or wherever where we've marked it
31:19
all right we're good there we're gonna extend our line just to the edge
31:25
so that way we can see it when it's being covered up
31:39
something good to do before you actually drill your screw in up here at the front
31:44
is just you know no measure backwards this is a triple check
31:49
you know you should be looking at something like three quarters of an inch back so on the
31:55
lawn seal you're going to go three quarters of an inch back and then that is where your screw hole is going to go
32:46
foreign
33:57
foreign
34:35
ers so what's cool is this thing is at an
34:40
angle right now it's kind of Twisted a little bit like that but what we can do
34:46
is since we have this edge here right on the corner
34:51
if we go ahead and we put in our screw then we can move it left to right in the
34:58
back and it's going to be able to make it easier to align it
35:05
all right so you got three quarters of an inch
35:13
foreign
35:19
drill through
35:30
all right now watch this this is where you kind of get to see
35:36
why this makes sense oh thanks going due I'm all so good that
35:43
it looks great um yeah that's awesome
35:53
so watch this see now you can take this
35:59
and see we're off over here so we can just all we gotta do is just pull it
36:09
until we get it perfectly lined up just like that
36:24
I'm just gonna go back and forth and kind of see where we wanted to go
36:49
let's give a little bit of a jerk to straighten it up okay that's where our next one's gonna
36:55
go
37:02
so since you you're always going to want to order this with about a foot extra
37:08
so we know this is six inches wide that's how much that's where how they sell it
37:13
and I bought 12 feet but they gave me 12 feet 2 inches
37:20
so they gave me about an extra inch left to right or width extra inch wide
37:27
and about two inches longer so now what we're going to do is roll
37:34
this Edge over it just be super careful
37:40
Let's uh all right let's see how fancy this camera can be
37:45
and move my time lapse back a little bit
37:52
well that's very convenient all right so we've got seven and three
37:59
quarters so seven and three quarters from the back of the van
38:07
all right so that's the back of the van right there
38:12
made a little scratch Mark and then I just want to go uh
38:19
I'm just going to do a half inch I did a half inch up front
38:26
okay let's do that so we went and we measured to the back of the floor
38:33
and then we went in another half of an inch to drill this this one
38:40
and that way we know it'll be covered up
38:47
so that's the cool part so now that with those two holes
38:58
we're going to see what needs to be trimmed out in just a second but now I'm just going to show you
39:05
everything which is this is where you can practice how you're going to actually put it in the van and so
39:14
and uh yeah I'll watch the uh the camera on the gimbal sometimes it goes crazy if I I leave it
39:22
but this one is going to allow us to come and pull this over
39:29
just like that so let me go up there and see how that's doing
39:36
I might have to go back and fix the camera but we're trying things out with this new camera
39:42
it's supposed to actually find me and then zoom in so that's pretty cool
39:48
but check this out so you see how I have this actually rolled over
39:56
so what you'll want to do before we do the install we'll still go over this on install day
40:03
but this is what I'm talking about you can kind of see those uh
40:09
Runway lines under there but since you have such little time yeah that's the hunting I was telling you
40:15
about um yeah let's pause the camera
40:22
it is cool but I know it's not a good viewing experience
40:28
okay here we go
40:33
so see how we have this flipped over
40:39
so what this is going to do now is allow us to only work on this area so one side at a time
40:46
when we get to the epoxy portion of this everything is happens very quickly
40:51
so we only have 15 minutes to put the epoxy from the
40:56
front to the back so you divide it in half seven and a half minutes so you have seven and a half minutes to do this one
41:04
side so that's troweling it out getting the level right and then once you've trout it out
41:11
you'll be able to come over here to this other side obviously you'll come from the back
41:17
but this way you can roll it over the epoxy and then make sure all your air bubbles
41:23
are out hop onto their side flip it over and these screws are in there for the whole
41:29
time so you're online but is not being uh you know messed up at any given time
41:39
all right so a couple of uh things that allow us to have a little
41:46
bit of a little bit leeway during this project we're gonna so we're going to cut out
41:51
the shower pan the flip and fold seat and
41:57
for the flip and fold seat I may try and
42:04
cut the middle out and then roll it in but my plans are for that to trim this
42:11
up with uh inch and a half
42:16
aluminum angle so we'll do some precise cuts and then we'll make our own little
42:21
border for that you can you could try to
42:27
uh cut and turn it down inward so I'll do that first just because we have nothing to lose
42:35
but if if you have something like this and you do mess up
42:41
you can always take aluminum trim paint it black and then try and trim this out with angle I haven't have a professional look
42:49
the shower pan it has a one inch lip overhang on this whole entire shower pan so we don't have
42:55
to worry about that we can cut it exact to size which is what we're going to do and
43:02
then that's all good as we come over here but let's just go ahead and put this
43:09
back where it needs to go your Ford seats will overhang here so that's going to be an issue for you
43:15
what's also going to rise this issue is this uh seat
43:22
uh this little clip in over here on the right hand side most people actually cut that off if you
43:28
can't see what I'm talking about uh I'll try to mention it again in a
43:33
future video but essentially is a little attachment point on the back of a Ford Transit seat
43:40
I'll probably grind that off so just look for that in a future video so
43:46
so as the shower pan comes out as we do this right here
43:57
we're going to start moving towards the uh the heater area
44:03
so for the heater area what we want to do is we're going to want to trim it out
44:11
completely one is completely hidden over here you'll never see it
44:16
two we don't want any of this vinyl you know directly touching our heater even though the heater doesn't
44:24
get hot enough on the outside typically to do any anything to anything around the van it's just a good
44:31
thing to look out for and then next what we have is we will
44:40
have our Adventure wagon panels that go in here and there was a viewer that was asking
44:46
about how or what's the best way to
44:52
measure from here to the floor to cut off the excess
44:57
so what we're going to do is I'm going to show you how to measure off the L track to the floor
45:03
and then once we get finished with the floor we'll take our final measurement from the bottom of the floor up to the L
45:09
track on this inside lip that number will tell us
45:15
we'll subtract it from the overall width and that's how much we'll we'll take off
45:20
the bottom and that way this panel will fit flush in there we don't want this rolled up to
45:25
the panel we want it under the panel all right and then as we come to the
45:31
back we'll do the same thing we'll be very careful back here because remember if you have wiring already in
45:37
the floor or your DC to DC Chargers that are being powered
45:43
off the engine battery they're probably right here so just be careful when you cut that you're not cutting into that
45:49
so that's why we're this is a good example of why we're not doing epoxy and trim the floor at the
45:55
same time that way we don't have to brush we can take our time same thing that happens as we go to the
46:00
back we'll come all the way back here and we will
46:05
finish cutting this uh Edge over here we'll take this out
46:12
so we want our Edge to be super clean so that when we put this back in that edge
46:18
is really nice where this is so we'll take this out
46:23
we no longer need it as a little prop
46:28
and what we'll do is we'll take the whole floor in and then we'll find out where we need to
46:34
trim it and get it close now what you can do
46:40
this is what also I did on Thomas's van is I took it all the way to the edge so it was almost touching and I rolled it
46:47
down with the epoxy and then once the epoxy cured I then cut the sharp edge so
46:52
that's that's another thing that we might do or you guys can do
46:58
over here some people keep it and have it rolled
47:04
up on the wheel well we won't be doing that because remember we were repurposing our
47:11
Fender covers and they're actually going down into this pocket
47:16
so we'll make sure that we just trim it close
47:22
all right so that is that part this is a No-No what I just did you need
47:27
to make sure that that is not where you're going to be walking and let's just see we have one more area
47:34
up here
47:42
all right
47:53
now this area up here I just noticed that
47:59
we have about it we've came come back about an eighth of an inch off this Edge
48:04
which is okay because we're gonna bolt this cover down but just be careful when we did the back the back was
48:11
straight this front part cut wise
48:16
looks like it was just it took a little they took a little bit more off on the left side than the right so it's straight in the back but
48:24
so really we wanted to use the back as the front vice versa but this is the way we rolled it out
48:30
it's no big deal just be aware when you do put your screw in the back that you double to go back and double check the
48:36
front but this is okay up here
48:45
all right while I'm up here I'm just going through all the thoughts that I had when I did
48:50
the last install you're going to make sure you want to put something underneath this Edge and
48:55
really tape off your uh your factory floor like that plastic
49:01
floor in the transit because you don't want to put the epoxy on here and when you have
49:06
the roller you don't want it kind of oozing over the edge onto something that you can't get it off of so make sure you
49:12
protect that but we'll go over that when we get uh closer to the next part
49:20
okay so we don't have any bubbles right here in the middle which means you know we don't have any
49:26
big humps so everything in here is pretty much where it's going to be
49:32
right here we have our shower pan
49:41
and I'm just kind of walking on it to kind of to find the edge a little bit to where
49:46
I'm going to be cutting but I think that'll be a great one to cut out first
49:53
um I want to find this Edge really nice on
49:59
at least one side because what I'm going to do is this part right here
50:07
is going to be uh perfectly
50:13
it's going to be we're going to be reusing this for the lid of the shower pan in the floor so this is what's going
50:20
to give us that nice hidden shower pan so let me show you that piece really quick
50:34
all right
50:43
so this is our shower pan cover and so this is going to go let's see
50:50
right like this so as you can imagine when we cut this lawn sill out what we're going to want
50:56
to do is keep it so that we can put it back on top of
51:01
here we'll epoxy this and now this hidden pan will have the same texture as
51:07
the floor and it'll be the same like a puzzle piece it'll go right
51:12
where we cut this piece out
51:36
all right for this one there's two blades there's this one but it can if you push it too hard it
51:42
can retract on its own so I'm going to get the other one this one
51:49
and this one has a locking wheel and that way it won't uh
51:55
it won't mess with me foreign
52:04
so let's make sure we have this Edge over here
52:22
we got one final check on our front and our back looks good
52:37
once again guys if you have any questions while you're watching this live you can pause anytime take some
52:43
questions
52:48
all right that's gonna look good
53:02
all right so we just want to really want to find our Edge um
53:09
yeah for this middle piece we have uh we don't have too much leniency with this uh finding this edge
53:17
here and that's really just for me you guys can uh
53:23
you guys might have a different situation but um for me I only have about a quarter inch
53:30
of area to mess up
53:36
if you know what I'm saying
53:55
okay good we got our Edge right where the floor is
54:03
again take your time we don't want to uh
54:09
rush and then pull the razor across our brand new floor
54:15
these floors are not cheap they're not cheap because they're
54:20
very durable one of the benefits of these floors is
54:27
it has to do with the expansion and contraction if you guys do like a metal or some type
54:33
of floating floor I mean not metal uh what I'm trying to say
54:39
like a click lock or floating type of floor the only downside of that is
54:45
if you don't allow proper expansion so maybe up to like a quarter inch quarter of an inch or more
54:52
or probably eighth of an inch or more I put this I put the click lock flooring
54:58
in my personal van and even though I knew to leave Expansion Joints like around the edges it's still buckled so
55:06
the reason that lawn sale is such a good product to go with is because the epoxy and the way that it's installed it can
55:14
kind of move and breathe with the floor and you don't get these uh buckling or Bubbles and stuff like that
55:27
so I'm just putting this tape on here it's kind of like a guide just so I don't don't go too far
55:37
it's not a perfect guide but it's uh
55:44
it will help also make sure you don't have anything you know on your feet
55:51
like rocks or something like that from the driveway shop floor is pretty clean so I'm I'm
55:57
good to go
56:11
all right looks like the video looks like it's good sounds on okay
56:18
of course you guys will let me know if uh something messes up I'm sure okay so we got our first Edge that's
56:25
good I come over here
56:55
I'm going slow to make sure I'm not kind of curving in
57:07
then I'm just going to kind of visually give myself a piece of tape here
57:14
so I know where I'm supposed to stop in case I just keep on going
57:21
so now I can actually come in and fill if I'm over too much or not
57:34
again you guys might not have to be this precise but um for the shower pan to look the way I
57:41
want it to I'm going to need to uh
57:49
to do this like this all right that one
57:55
excellent
58:01
all right so next see if I can go this way
58:48
make sure you know your fingers are too
59:12
foreign
59:21
you guys feel free to use any of these these crazy methods that I'm I'm coming
59:27
up with
59:35
for some it may be OCD but uh I will tell you with the van industry
59:42
the way it is uh getting products and stuff like that if you can just imagine
59:47
the cost of this material and then let's say
59:52
you have the shipping costs included but then not only that you have uh you've been wanting to make sure that
59:59
something like this was in stock for example so you've been waiting for all that to happen and so
1:00:06
my point is if you don't take your time and you rush
1:00:12
something and then it damages the floor
1:00:19
then you know probably not gonna be happy with that
1:00:33
okay so it looks like our Blade's getting dull so I'm gonna pull it back to a different
1:00:38
position uh and don't be shy to you know break
1:00:45
your blades away often
1:00:55
it's going to give you the best and uh safest cutting surface
1:01:06
all right doing great
1:01:36
hold on Nova
1:02:32
it was good now as we can actually pull up as we're cutting
1:02:39
we can see what we're doing
1:02:52
foreign
1:03:46
put the shower pan in here and we get to see how it fits after it
1:03:52
made that uh modification to it
1:04:01
well modification of the floor the floor that is
1:04:22
watch your knees too don't want to come in to your knee
1:04:29
that would be really bad all right it's nice and easy
1:04:35
even though we're right at the edge just take your time
1:04:42
all right so guess what we took our time and we cut out a perfect
1:04:50
precise piece of the floor all right so now that I don't mess
1:04:55
myself up I need to I'm going to label this front
1:05:03
and so that way I don't have to twist around like a puzzle piece and figure out
1:05:10
where the front is later
1:05:17
all right there you go put a little arrow front
1:05:27
let's grab a shower pan and just uh have some fun with this
1:05:39
this thing is it's like a solid steel pan they do that
1:05:46
so that the the magnets from the shower what will work because you can't use aluminum you
1:05:52
could use aluminum but it'll be pain in the butt um
1:05:59
all right so I can already see that I didn't cut out I cut out the wood but I didn't cut out the
1:06:05
uh insulation oh it's okay fine
1:06:10
look at that here let's take that green tape off
1:06:16
let's gently put this on the back floor
1:06:34
foreign
1:06:58
[Music]
1:07:09
don't live your leave your blade down like that
1:07:16
all right so this lines up great
1:07:22
all right good to go
1:07:28
I will need to trim off the insulation on this left side because I'm about
1:07:33
an eighth of an inch off of my Center hole right here so front to back is fine left to right is
1:07:40
the issue it's not a big deal but remember we have our two kitchen galleys
1:07:45
here and they're directly on this line so we need to make sure that's uh very precise
1:07:51
let's put the piece of wood in here so we can
1:07:58
let you guys can see on the camera a little bit better
1:08:49
there you go so that's where hidden shower plan is going to shower pan is going to go
1:08:56
and then we'll take this uh lawn sill right here
1:09:01
and this will go like that and that thing's gonna look awesome
1:09:23
yeah you definitely got to make sure this is cut out accurately you're just gonna
1:09:28
yeah definitely look weird when you put it back in okay enough of that let's keep on
1:09:34
cutting
1:10:02
[Music]
1:10:24
foreign
1:11:37
foreign
1:12:14
on this passenger side over here we're gonna do the same thing with the
1:12:19
tape
1:12:46
foreign
1:13:59
yeah watch out for your your legs you're coming around your face
1:14:57
another good thing to do is just put some tape on these sides where just give you a heads up about going too
1:15:04
far down
1:15:11
now I'm doing this as if we needed to go all the way down
1:15:18
but depending on how you're laying your floor out you may not need to do
1:15:24
uh what I'm doing here you can be more aggressive and cut more out of the floor
1:15:36
so I'm basically when I go around the edges I'm acting as if I'm going flush up to the outside of the van not the
1:15:42
floor I'm going over the floor but I'm not taking enough Material off to where the floor is still going to lay down
1:15:48
flat while I'm doing the epoxy
1:16:02
all right
1:16:08
the next nice thing about that is just like this corner here if there's anything touching
1:16:13
I can just just shave it out it's nice and easy
1:16:26
and then when I get done I'll come back later and do a clean cut after the epoxy has let it
1:16:34
um you know glue down come down come down down to the floor so like for example this
1:16:40
I know that I can just come straight across here and make sure I'm not cutting my wires
1:16:46
behind there that's very important
1:16:54
so that way I can lay it down everything's still good
1:17:02
again take this side I'm gonna cut it out don't cut your
1:17:08
your Vans weather stripping
1:17:14
another danger point
1:17:21
and a way to not do that is just pull it up out of the way
1:17:28
you're cutting it and this part does not have to be neat this is just
1:17:34
it's just so that when you put the epoxy down this is going to lay you down flat because you're going to get the cleanest
1:17:40
reveal if it's laid down flat while the epoxy dries and then you come back and trim it up
1:18:02
you can and depending if you have lines in these or you have the the coin structure you can just
1:18:08
look down and then just follow up from where those uh
1:18:14
coins are whatever you want to call them and that's a good way to gauge
1:18:20
where you need to be on the floor
1:18:51
thank you
1:19:00
so remember for us we're not wanting to the fenders going behind here
1:19:07
so we want this is what we want the lawn still flush to the floor area
1:19:45
if you also remember we did we cut
1:19:51
these sides out to gain access to our plumbing and drain over here
1:19:57
so we want to make sure that we don't cover this up with uh with
1:20:03
lawn seal
1:20:11
we could have it overhang for the epoxy purpose but then we want to come make sure we come back
1:20:16
and uh
1:20:25
trim it
1:20:34
so I'm just leaving about you know eighth of an inch overhang and then once the lawn again the epoxy
1:20:40
sets up we'll we'll cut it from there
1:21:10
foreign
1:22:25
side everything's looking really good this Bob I'm coming back to because
1:22:31
I wanted to take my time on it and didn't want to rush there were all of our power cables are
1:22:38
coming to the floor
1:22:44
it's an area we do not want to screw up
1:23:06
and then even if you have a wire coming out the wall if you need to make a little notch
1:23:12
just so that wire is not holding the floor from going down all the way yeah go ahead and do that cut that
1:23:20
put that piece out I mean if it's like a little
1:23:27
just a little bit of nothing
1:23:45
foreign
1:24:12
this is what I'm talking about see how if we had the roller in here this would be a lip we want it so it's
1:24:17
flush and flat
1:24:23
but remember you have we've got cables under here so we still need to
1:24:30
they're very they're not they actually can't stand but it's better be paranoid and then cut
1:24:37
through a a wire that you have very difficult access getting to
1:24:43
okay so say we just took this little sliver out but now all this is going flush to the floor
1:24:51
foreign
1:25:06
the whole right side passenger side is done let's go ahead and let's start working
1:25:11
on our driver's side
1:25:34
remember our driver's side has our main power
1:25:43
not only does it have the main power but it has our
1:25:49
our piece of floor for the trim
1:25:55
is visible well not trim is visible the uh
1:26:02
the transition between our lip our powder coated lip and the floor is
1:26:08
visible so try to make that a very accurate cut
1:26:16
so you can do it let's see next you're going to get into this back corner
1:26:26
and what I'm doing I'm just following the coins here so I'm just going to follow them a
1:26:31
little bit and then see where see where I need to go
1:27:42
foreign
1:28:09
harder because we got to be more precise this is where the transition piece between the
1:28:16
adventure wagon and the floor goes
1:28:24
It's gotta be a little bit more precise over here
1:28:38
I cut a little bit more than I wanted to over here I didn't cut it all the way away but this will be a good way to when
1:28:44
we do the epoxy I'll come back over here and I'll show you how we can fix it
1:28:55
yeah let's go down easy keep looking at your uh
1:29:00
where the dots are the lines whatever floor you're using
1:29:07
the other reason I put this line in the middle is because if you have the lines in the
1:29:13
flooring you don't want those lines to be crooked as they go to the back so this My Method will work for pretty much
1:29:20
any floor
1:29:37
and I'm just checking it every so often to make sure I'm not drifting with my cut
1:30:03
foreign
1:30:10
so what I'm going to do here is I'm going to keep coming uh going down these dots
1:30:16
because I know since we put the floor in even I know that this is going to work for
1:30:22
the rest of the floor so I'm just going to do it all the way down and then I'll come in and make my
1:30:30
vertical cuts
1:30:35
if you guys aren't subscribed the channel and you're enjoying this content love for you guys to subscribe

1:33:33
but yeah let's go ahead and uh let's get back to installing this floor
1:33:44
thank you so again what I'm doing is following
1:33:50
for me there's this third coin from the top
1:33:56
it's just allowing me to Cruise right on through here
1:34:02
now if you feel like you're getting excited it's good to be excited but
1:34:08
when you're doing this don't go too fast because we don't want you to get cut
1:34:15
or anything like that because it does take a little bit of an effort as you guys can see in
1:34:22
uh you know cutting this like I'm doing so
1:34:33
okay almost done let's go ahead and finish this piece off
1:34:39
perfect so see very evenly we took off the whole
1:34:45
left hand side we're going to go back to the middle
1:34:54
we had this one column pillar whatever you want to call it but we're just going to come straight down
1:35:02
not all the way again patience is our friend on this build we
1:35:09
do not want to stop the whole video order more stuff because we
1:35:15
got too excited with the process
1:35:22
and you see I cut well you probably can't see but I cut about a half an inch too low
1:35:29
the good news is I'm going to show you tricks on how we are going to conceal
1:35:36
that basically what we're going to do is the epoxy is going to do it for us that slit once the epoxy goes down it's going
1:35:42
to be the same level um but again the leniency part on this
1:35:48
build is that this is all covered up by Adventure wagon interior components
1:35:55
as well as the adventure wagon trim pieces
1:36:01
so we don't really have to be that careful
1:36:06
but the good part is if we are that careful
1:36:11
then we don't have to worry about anything we just keep on trucking
1:36:18
it's right here you do cut here
1:36:23
and be very careful because this is where the heart of the van is it's like the
1:36:29
main artery so our 120 volt lines are right here where
1:36:36
I'm cutting
1:36:44
okay it's nice and easy
1:36:51
we got to about right there again tape is your friend
1:36:58
it's going to help you know if you've you're getting close to
1:37:03
going too far exactly what we want to avoid
1:37:13
okay there we go now this this we are going to cut flush
1:37:19
As We Know what we're doing over here because the wood the wood flooring
1:37:28
is becoming our template
1:37:37
that's going to give us a nice clean Edge but we have our power wires directly
1:37:43
under there so if we were to slip we could cut those that's why we got to be
1:37:49
again just nice and easy
1:37:56
okay and now we can cut this piece out of the
1:38:01
way
1:38:07
[Music]
1:38:18
foreign
1:38:38
also the overhang helps you so right here for example this is going to be covered up by 80 20.
1:38:43
but I see a little bit of the white floor the reason we want to always have a
1:38:49
little bit of a eighth of an inch overhang is because when we put the roller on the floor it's going to squeeze out some of the epoxy and it's
1:38:56
going to drip over the edge which is perfectly normal but the issue is if you don't have that lip in my opinion you're
1:39:04
you could roll it some of that epoxy will get on your roller and then when you back roll
1:39:10
that epoxy is going to go on your your brand new floor and that that's not good
1:39:16
so if you do what I just was talking about
1:39:23
um that's that's what I advise that you do
1:39:29
all right it's right here we get the same thing over here
1:39:40
I'm going to make sure that we are cutting this right where we need to
1:39:47
so we've got we found our dots all right I'm just going to follow our dots
1:39:54
that's why it's really important that top to bottom left to right is nice and
1:39:59
uh accurate so that we don't
1:40:04
so that we can take advantage of the grid pattern on the floor
1:40:14
all right Next Step is to not cut our wires our wires back
1:40:20
here so we're going to come straight down on this side very carefully
1:40:35
extremely carefully there you go
1:40:44
okay
1:40:54
and then this one we can kind of play with we can just cut this excess off really quick
1:41:00
get it out of her way
1:41:06
and remember don't worry about this as long as it's not peeling up or good this is not even right here because remember
1:41:13
we're putting a the wheel well cover over there with the insulation
1:41:24
and then here
1:41:30
so I'm not going to cut this back Edge I will cut this corner because I want to do something on this back Edge that
1:41:37
we're saving for another video so right now you're not gonna you're not gonna see me do it but you'll
1:41:43
probably get it I wanna I want to extend the floor out uh a little bit more
1:41:52
because
1:41:58
all right so this one we got to be extra careful we have all of our communication wires right down there
1:42:09
so that's good all right now let's
1:42:15
not that we couldn't have done that before but now let's cut this front piece off
1:42:22
we'll work on our back we'll trim around this back side and uh yeah that'll be that'll be it for this
1:42:28
one
1:42:36
the next time we'll be mixing up our epoxy
1:42:44
putting our floor down triple check your wires
1:43:23
cool [Applause]
1:44:04
also we got some weather seal or those uh
1:44:10
sales for your van make sure you're not cutting into them this one right over here is really close
1:44:15
to where I need to cut
1:44:48
foreign
1:45:43
guess what guys we made it to the back of the van so what I'm going to do is I'm going to drill uh two more holes
1:45:50
and they're going to be on this outer edge that way I can
1:45:58
we've got our trim piece so it's going to be covered but it's just going to make it easier to
1:46:03
cut this outer piece um actually let's just go for it here
1:46:11
so I'm gonna have to get some more anyway
1:46:21
you can do that if you guys wanted to um
1:46:28
pretty comfortable with how I'm cutting everything right now so I'm just going to do this
1:46:34
free hand on the back
1:46:41
get a better angle here
1:46:46
the camera go down lower can you go down lower
1:46:56
ah there we go
1:47:09
actually I bet I didn't change the camera angle that thing was going crazy guys so
1:47:15
sorry if it was zooming in and out a bunch
1:48:23
that's it all right we did it
1:48:31
cut the floor out
1:48:39
so this is what I mean by
1:48:46
there you go oh all right this is what I mean by
1:48:53
trimming the floor out everything in here now can lay very flat
1:48:58
we've got our locator pins I guess that we call it our screws so we got one in
1:49:03
the front taped one in the back taped the floor is also marked
1:49:09
so the only thing that we need to be cautious of is there is just the slightest the
1:49:18
slightest little you know rip on the floor and that's just because it's not completely laid out
1:49:23
so I'm just going to leave this here until we do the epoxy and I'll I'll take it out and blow it out and then we'll do
1:49:29
the epoxy but this
1:49:34
um so front back this is going to allow us to put this back
1:49:40
in its own position when we get done so next video will be actually doing the
1:49:46
epoxy so this will be it for this video we'll just call this the video to show
1:49:52
you guys how to trim out the floor your flooring before you put it in I highly suggest you do this because
1:49:59
as I said this whole thing the raised up Corners not allowing that to really contact your adhesive it dries and then
1:50:06
now you get this curl that won't ever go down um this is just my personal opinion the
1:50:12
best method so I hope this guy hope this helps you guys if you're doing a DIY floor
1:50:18
yourself or you're just interested in building a van out and wanting to see how to do
