1:49
hey everyone welcome back to the live stream we are in the final days of John and Susan's custom van build and uh
1:55
we've got a list of things that we need to knock out
2:01
all right so here is the list of things that I'm trying to do one short stream a
2:06
day to keep you guys uh updated on what's going on but other than that I am
2:12
headed the grindstone making sure that I get this thing knocked out so what do we have left on the van um and also JN and
2:19
Susan if you're watching this is the list that we didn't get a chance to go over uh when you came to visit today so
2:26
the fridge stack um that is something we're going to talk about so I'm going to give you guys just a little bit of a
2:33
sneak peek at that we're going to talk about this in just a
2:38
second um awesome thanks everybody for tuning in that's coming
2:44
online uh next we have the kitchen Galley so we just need to uh bring that
2:51
in start the painting process on that uh we're going to go over this whole entire thing when we hop in the van for the uh
2:58
fridge deack next do the water system then we have a seat enclosure that we're
3:03
going to put together uh we have a rear fuse panel battery Mount system that's
3:09
going in the passenger window there's actually a passenger window going in
3:14
that you guys have not seen me install um it just takes me you know half a day
3:19
to do that so I'm not really stressed as far as knocking that out so that'll be
3:25
down here lower on the list then we got two days for system testing um I have these two days pulled off
3:32
because uh I don't have all the rooftop solar uh cables zip tie down on purpose
3:39
because I want to disconnect uh I want to test it um before I plug it up into
3:46
the ecoflow just to make sure the voltages are right before everything gets you know plugged together um it's
3:52
not that I don't trust the wire diagrams I just want to be extra careful after doing all that work so these two days
3:58
are for bring the van outside um test the rooftop solar and
4:04
then we'll be doing some more electrical there and then the last one is the delivery day so pretty exciting so this
4:10
is the goal is to knock all this stuff out um and next couple days and uh that
4:19
starts with um finishing up the fridge stack so let's go inside the van and
4:24
look at what we've done so far now I tried to
4:31
do a time lapse or whatever but um with the timing I just I needed to
4:37
stay focused and knock this out so none of this was really covered um other than
4:42
a couple photos that I took with my uh phone but this is pretty much half of
4:48
the uh kitchen Galley area so what we have is we have the fridge stack we've
4:54
been talking about um so we have a convection microwave believe it or not
5:00
and this unit is 24 in wide so if you're looking at the frame of the microwave that's 24 in uh so big old microwave um
5:10
I think it looks really good the very top we get that ventilation uh for the fridge and the microwave to come out the
5:16
top uh we will be drilling some holes in the back lift um that'll be hidden by
5:22
the ecoflow battery but it allows the air to conve and come from the bottom
5:28
come up past the refrigerator up through the top so we got some really good air circulation it's really important when
5:34
you're making something that's such a tight uh encloser um also this middle part is for
5:42
the isotherm Cruise 130 fridge so it's all set to go uh right now we have this
5:47
face frame that's it's not attached um it's going to need some convincing to
5:52
get it to look the way I want it to um but in today's video we are working on
5:59
the drawer in the bottom so I've got everything pre-cut ready to go all I'm doing is gluing and nailing it together
6:06
and I wanted to cover that in this uh video just so you guys have some something to watch since uh we haven't
6:13
been posting that much um I did finish this door all I have to do is uh put the brace in the
6:20
back and add the latch so this is so that they have access to the garage
6:27
area um so there's no nothing holding that this just kind of like a
6:32
friction hold right now but um believe it or not this piece of wood that's the door is the piece that was from this
6:39
panel so the way I did this was I used a track saw and I neatly cut out the top
6:45
and the sides and then I just jigsawed neatly the edges so I could use the same
6:50
piece of wood uh not have to do another cut um it's just simpler that way and I
6:56
think it's just an easier way to do construction um you'll see this is bare
7:02
that's on purpose because when the kitchen gu comes in we'll actually be
7:07
gluing The Galley to this support piece in the back and um everything's going to
7:14
be built into this van so it's not meant to be unbolted in any means it's meant
7:19
to be safe and all glued is basically one big piece of furniture uh speaking of safety let me
7:27
pop up in the van here so up top top we have a piece of an uh 90 Dee 8020
7:34
bracket super thick aluminum um it is held in with a 51618 Riv nut into the
7:41
ceiling rib so that's giving us our kind of left to right stability and then as we come down we've
7:48
got a uh like a backer piece um that is drilled into the top uh
7:58
middle of the van where right above where the window goes so that is uh
8:03
screwed and uh bolted into this top panel and then along the whole entire
8:10
unit and we'll have to show you photos later but we have these glued in 2x4s
8:15
that have been pocket Hool screwed and they give us all of our structural support on the left and the right hand
8:21
side again we have the uh I think it's a what is
8:27
this it's a 1 by to uh popler and it is
8:32
glued and pocket hole screwed into this structure and that makes up the main structure for this front face that the
8:39
micro uh the refrigerator is going to bolt
8:45
into um and I picked up this pin nailer so
8:51
we're going to be going over that today as well but the pen nailer is what I needed to actually uh so this is the thing I just
8:58
got it's going to pin nail this face frame on and just multiple places and
9:04
then we're going to glue it and then that will allow us to begin to actually
9:09
put our fridge in um but the fridge will go in last because behind the microwave here we've
9:16
got a opening that's the perfect size for the ecoflow screen to go right here and we can plug in the wires in the back
9:22
as well as the basto control we fixed the length of the Webasto control so I
9:28
had it come in this way and going up here and all I did was just cut an opening here and then I gained about 2
9:36
ft of extra cable so I got plenty of room now um yeah so the drawer at the
9:44
bottom I'll talk a little bit about that and then we're going to hop into
9:55
uh everything else let me scroll down
10:02
okay and I can't see the chat right now so I'll have to come answer your questions in a second um let's talk
10:09
about this bottom area this is what we're doing today we're going to glue the box together and I'm going to show you how I made this up now believe it or
10:16
not I have not made drawer boxes um as you can see I can I can pretty much
10:23
build anything I can think of but I wanted to make sure that this dra box was very strong so came up with a method
10:32
you know uh did the whole YouTube thing and I've come upon a method that I think
10:38
will work really good for a DIY um because it's nice and simple you don't have to have a dado
10:43
blade uh all the fancy drawer stuff it's just a very strong simple drawer and
10:52
we're going to show you how to make it um we are using very nice uh drawer
10:58
slides so Rockler just came out with this brand new slide um if you've ever known of Blum Hardware that's usually like the
11:05
gold standard uh so Rockler actually came up with their own version of that
11:10
and so it's a soft close under mount drawer slide uh it's really
11:17
nice um but we're going to do that here and just like this latch pull right here
11:23
so we got these Marine latches they're awesome um you can get them on for Amazon they're actually excellent
11:30
quality very simple uh but that same latch is going to be right here and so
11:38
we'll just have a pull latch and the drawer is going to pull out so you'll have that nice soft close
11:45
and that that nice positive click um next we have uh this trolino and we
11:56
just mocked out the spacing for it so what's cool is I'm going to build a box uh over here with a lid and the lid is
12:03
going to open this direction um and the lid will open here
12:09
and then this that way this lid has room to open like that and then fingers crossed we'll have
12:16
enough room over here that we can actually uh Place toilet paper rolls or cleaner over here on the rightand side
12:24
and this will be a really nice functional space not only that but if you guys can see this is uh enough room
12:31
for a jump seat so this is what we planned uh did a lot of planning on
12:37
trying to figure out getting as much foot space as we could or leg room
12:42
between the seat being swiveled and this Gap and then where this transition went
12:49
from the bed to here so that is
12:54
uh pretty much an update so far um I'm going to go over here
13:01
and bring this camera around and then we are going to start working on putting together the
13:10
drawer and then uh if you guys are new to the channel feel free to ask any
13:17
questions um you get to
13:25
see you get just see how the shop is uh all put together it's
13:32
a work in progress here all right so let's get the camera set
13:40
up all right so give me one second and I'll pop back
13:57
in okay here we go let's nail together this
14:15
drawer okay I've got my phone now so I can see you guys in the chat if you have
14:20
any questions um drawer slides let's check
14:26
out these drawer slides
14:32
so these right here are under mount George slides which I think are excellent
14:39
because they come with this big bracket and you can uh building wise since uh I haven't
14:47
done I haven't done I've repaired a lot of cabinets I haven't built cabinets um so I wanted something that I
14:54
could actually uh Mount where I wanted it to um but but at the same time I want
14:59
it to function you know like a really nice high-end drawer so this right
15:06
here this is the plastic under mount that will go underneath the drawer um
15:12
we'll we'll get to all this by the end of the video but you can see this is a uh it's a full extension drawer slide
15:20
this is 18 in and so this is what we're going to be using for the drawer um and what we're doing is our
15:28
kitchen alley is 18 in so this is just uh we're just keeping it simple at 18 in
15:35
again the reason I went with 18 in is because uh I needed that weird uh
15:43
structural member from a Ford Transit that's annoying to everybody that builds Vans instead of making a special Notch
15:51
and notching everything out it would take forever I just brought the drawer forward and then that Notch is right
15:57
here and then this is just some open space which is fine cuz that gives us more air flow in the back of the cabinet
16:03
but anyway this is the drawer the drawer will sit on here so this is kind of like
16:09
mounted in there like that but what's nice is watch when so when the door
16:15
closes you see we got that
16:21
uh that nice satisfying delay shut or close all right so you're going
16:29
to have two of these and then this is the piece that uh it's actually
16:34
connected to the underside of the drawer um we'll build the drawer and then I'll show you where this is put in and you
16:41
guys are seeing this me do this in real time um I have it preone this so might
16:47
be very enter might be very entertaining but this just snaps and clicks into here and that allows the
16:55
drawer so the the drawer sits on here and that's really how it it just
17:00
literally sits on top this finger in the back keeps the drawer from popping out
17:06
and leaning forward when you actually when the weight's extended here so that kind of grabs it from falling
17:12
out and then this front section is it's flimsy because it needs the strength of
17:18
the drawer to be its uh structure but it's meant to have this simple tab to
17:24
where when you pull this tab you can pull the drawer out and then
17:30
clean behind the drawer and then we need to reinstall it the drawer comes in finds this little hole in the back and
17:36
then it just comes in and then clicks and then now you got your drawer back but you need to be
17:42
careful this thing has no support right now because it's not mounted to a drawer so you know be careful
17:49
um uh these things break easily if they're not mounted to the drawer
17:56
so okay there's our two draw door slides so we're just going to let them hang out over here for a
18:06
minute um the only thing I did not do is there is a front piece to this
18:15
drawer uh where do I go [Music]
18:22
so let's see if I can get some pool
18:27
latches there you go yeah so the front piece of
18:33
this drawer I have not drilled so there is a drawer face so
18:39
just like we have a face frame this is the face of the drawer so what we have
18:47
is um I need to keep this like this so I can glue it together but I will rotate this to give you some
18:53
more visual appearance so this is the drawer this is the back of the
19:01
drawer um and so this is the drawer box and then so this is the drawer
19:07
front and there's a technique you do where you can
19:13
uh you like put some double-sided tape or you can
19:19
uh locate this so like when you put your drawer in it might be off or up it or down just a little bit um probably won't
19:27
show you that in this video but you imagine the drawer goes in and this
19:34
uh drawer face needs to fit inside the face frame that green face frame that we painted so we need to actually figure
19:40
out where it goes and then make a mark so we can screw it into our drawer
19:46
box um so I got to figure out how to do that all right this is again another
19:53
pull latch and so we'll have this pull latch mounted we drill an inch and a half hole
19:59
comes up here and then we'll have room in our cabinet to actually put the uh
20:04
the clasp that catches this uh but yeah that's pretty much it nice and
20:10
simple this is obviously lower than the face and multiple reasons one uh it's
20:18
just easier to get this in and out if you do need to remove it and two you
20:23
don't want two half inch pieces of wood constricted seen this uh or because this
20:31
this latch won't work so this latch will only work at a maximum of about 3/4 of an
20:36
inch so that way this stays shallow and our our latch can can still catch the
20:43
way it's supposed to all right so we'll have you'll have
20:49
to come back some other time because we'll I need I'll need to need to paint
20:54
this um all that good stuff so this with the latch will be in
21:00
a different video okay it's time to glue and
21:10
screw glue and pin
21:16
nail all right so let's see here
21:24
um make sure you have a tape measure with you when you are doing something like this
21:30
because this box is really it it's so close to being square
21:37
like the middle piece is 17 by 17 A2 so I need to really make sure that I'm actually gluing the right things
21:45
together um so 18 and 38 is our
21:51
width so it looks
21:56
like looks like I'm okay there
22:02
here um I'm going to want to make sure I've got all my clamps ready so you're
22:08
going to need very long things uh very long
22:17
clamps to hold the drawer box together while
22:22
you're doing all this
22:34
these are uh drawer clamps so they clamp it make
22:42
everything nice and square and so we will do this uh before we pin nail so we'll glue
22:49
it first and then we'll put these on these clamps on um a little bit behind the scenes
22:56
underneath here um um not sure if you guys can see
23:02
this trying not to mess my work area up too much so there you go so under here I have two
23:09
pieces of/ inch just scraps and these scraps are
23:23
important because they are going to sit just like that um
23:30
and they rais this half an inch so that's important because when we come over here to our drawer
23:40
slides this bar is a/ an inch so
23:46
uh what we want to do is we want to make sure that the sides of the drawers don't come
23:52
down uh so far that they interfere with this uh little shock that creates the
23:59
soft cloes and there's this little spot welded rest that
24:07
is also uh a half an
24:13
inch so because we're using Baltic Birch that is about a 16th inch shy of a/ inch
24:21
because it's a metric ply um it's still sold in a 4T by 8T sheet but the
24:27
thickness is is different um but those sides are going to come
24:34
down and that kind of keeps it from going left to right this helps it from coming in going front to back so to make
24:42
sure that we have it sit on the drawer slides correctly we need
24:48
to offset this up a half an inch um okay so we got that
24:58
let's see what we got
25:04
next yeah so this is where I got to pay attention I'll talk to you guys and then
25:11
I'll I'll put this in wrong there we go okay so that
25:24
way as I get ready to put this together I don't have to worry about
25:30
my clearances because they're all going to be
25:45
[Music]
25:52
correct and I've already measured that that uh piece that I just took out so it's a perfect measure so I don't really
25:58
have to worry I just have to make sure I glue this up um the correct
26:27
way and I'm just doing a bunch of test measurements cuz once we start gluing this together
26:34
um this glue that I use is tight Bond original wood glue and it actually dries
26:40
extremely fast so we just don't want to wait around
26:50
here okay so I have 18
26:57
and 18 and 716 is my
27:04
width um but my drawer space is 18 and
27:11
38 so I made it a 16th inch wider
27:17
because and this is what you got to consider when you're building a van you can be as precise as possible but what
27:23
tends to happen is there might be like a 16inch uh shorter in the front and then
27:29
a little bit bigger in the back and even though you build it straight once you bolt it in the van sometimes it gets
27:35
tweaked so I added a 16th of an inch so that when
27:40
I I don't want to put the Box in and then have it bind and then now this thing is too
27:47
small even though it's correct it it's uh I don't know
27:53
it's it's van building that's just how it is um
28:00
okay we're going to glue these first two sides GL get a clamp on it do our pin nails and then we'll kind of move on so
28:07
I will stop talking and get to work here but definitely if you guys have any
28:15
questions um my phone's over here so you can put that in the
28:27
chat
28:46
and I'm not using a brush or anything fancy I'm just putting wood glue on here and then smearing around with my finger
28:53
so does not have to be you to be super pro at
29:07
this so I used to just make a line just like this and I put it together but I've
29:12
watched a lot of pros and they all tend to make sure they evenly
29:18
distribute the glue um now I have the bonus that my
29:25
outfeed table is it's melamine material so pretty much
29:31
nothing sticks to it so I don't really have to worry about anything sticking to
29:37
it all right so even though I know this is the right piece to put on here I'm
29:42
still going to double check my measurement we should have let's see
29:49
here the inside is
29:57
17
30:16
also when we Mount these drawer slides we're going to have to come forward a 16th of an inch to make up for the
30:21
difference in our thickness of our wood mhm
30:39
okay so let's go
30:47
ahead now these red clamps you can get on
30:54
Amazon uh if you guys are familiar with woodpecker
31:00
Wood Tools um woodpecker tools are extremely
31:06
highend uh however this is an
31:13
Amazon you know woodpecker look alike I like buying high quality tools
31:20
um this tool for example uh no joke I think it's like
31:26
$400 for four of these so I'm not ready
31:32
to invest in that quite so
31:38
fast okay so we got this now one thing I've learned about
31:44
pin nailing is you pin nail something it is it is in
31:52
that thing is a pain to get out so we're going to make sure we clamp this
31:59
get it nice and square and then we'll put a couple of
32:05
pin Nails in and the pin nails are going to allow us to move on to the next part of this construction and I have to worry
32:11
about um us messing The Joint up when we take these clamps
32:17
off all right so we're using one inch uh this is onein 23 gauge pin nail
32:31
and this is great for if you're maybe doing some uh
32:37
painting for example this uh does a good job of you
32:43
can hide this hole because there's no the pin nail there's no head it's
32:50
basically like shooting a needle in a piece of
32:56
wood and I
33:02
have like I bought like 2,000 pin nails so I don't think I can put too many in
33:15
here okay so everything looks good want to undo
33:21
this let's finish up our bottom
33:47
we'll let that lock in for a second we'll move on to the other
33:56
side
34:13
[Music]
34:56
for
35:26
for
36:25
yeah we really want to make sure that this is a as flush as can be
36:30
because we got that face uh the drawer face that has to go on
36:56
here
37:59
okay so now we're going to put in the bottom drawer I mean the bottom part of
38:05
the drawer and this is where we need to take our
38:10
spacers make sure our surface is clean and
38:26
flat and most importantly make sure we got this
38:31
17 1 12 by 17 in the right
38:38
orientation I only laugh because it's it's a number I made
38:47
up okay and so what I've been doing is I've
38:53
actually been taking a uh a pencil and doing a light
39:05
Mark where the drawer it where the drawer bottom goes and then what I do is I take this
39:16
out um and it just allows me to make sure that I'm all the way down when I get
39:23
ready to actually nail this thing together
39:28
now might get a little messy here with our glue it's another benefit to the lines
39:34
is we [Music] can come over here and since we know where the top of
39:42
our line is we can put our glue right on that
39:53
line then we can just neatly rub that in
40:00
and then when the drawer goes in there it'll actually you know smush it just a little
40:05
bit
40:26
more
40:40
all
40:56
right
41:11
this will be a little messy but we can just wipe it
41:21
off I know it's dripping
41:28
but this is the most important part in my opinion because this is what is going to hold typically this is where you use a
41:35
datto blade on a cabinet saw or table saw to actually get this uh in a slot
41:46
and that joint provides the strength but uh it's it's really complicated and
41:53
I know people do it all the time but I don't want to that's not the method that I'm using for for this
42:06
today okay so we got a a lot of good glue going to pull this
42:19
back
42:26
okay all right that's where we want it to be let's get some
42:38
clamps and got to think of how I want
42:46
to nail this
42:56
now I have to go the side of the table so I
43:02
can get my PIN nailer in the right
43:11
position
43:26
okay
44:04
okay man I'm telling you that saw stop saw I bought is a game changer in carpentry
44:12
cuz I do all the stuff in the tracks saw in the past and how precise this drawer
44:17
is it's just very satisfying as a builder to to put this together makes
44:24
it a lot of fun all right so our top is pushed down all
44:29
the way everything looks really good we could technically do just a
44:34
quick measurement here got 11 and a
44:40
eth let's see 11 and E 11 and a
44:50
eth 11 and eth 11 and
44:56
eth
45:02
okay triple checking over here looked a little an
45:08
eigh now remember this is important because
45:14
this this is make sure that it doesn't you know wobble in the drawer slide so
45:19
this bottom base is what actually is uh resting on the slider itself
45:39
okay I did not go high enough on that one here we go so I'm going to take a
45:46
block of wood here and I'm going to trace
45:53
where this line needs to be
46:00
I did that one way too low we're learning here we're
46:09
learning cues that didn't go
46:25
in
46:40
okay let's see how see if we messed up at
46:45
all I know one is way yeah just
46:53
one okay so my angle my angle going in
46:59
was on two of them was not the best they kind of they came out but the PIN nails are nice you can clip them off with
47:05
a pair of wire pliers
47:12
um believe it or not the glue is the most important part of
47:21
[Music] this
47:28
so we're going to keep our
47:33
spacers okay with our clamps nothing should move
47:40
but always want to double
47:55
check so this is what I was saying that I needed to do earlier that I did not do
48:02
is sketch a line on this outside and then just to make sure
48:09
I shoot the nail above the
48:21
line move the camera down here there we go
48:31
okay so my angle I need to make sure I'm going straight
48:55
in okay should be enough for us to take her clamps off and then finish
49:02
up nailing this thing
49:16
together yeah so down here I did one two and this little third one came out uh so
49:23
I'm really I'm have to make sure I pull those out
49:36
if I can pull them out they're only an inch long so there we
49:44
go one and we need to pull them out because these are going to be interfering with
49:50
the uh drawer
49:55
slides
50:51
[Applause] I
51:18
there we go okay we fully got all three of those out which is great if we kind of partially got them out it's probably
51:25
not going to be the best for drawer slides um okay so we got three here
51:31
we'll fix that later uh let's just go ahead and get
51:37
our glue wiped
51:51
off the fact that we actually have to do this is
51:57
very good that means we got really
52:04
good really good amount of glue in
52:14
there all right let's clean up a little
52:23
bit okay let's get those pin Nails in before I forget oh yeah let's at the
52:48
top yeah it's hard to get the direction right on these pin
52:53
Nails I technically could have left this one but but you don't want somebody cleaning the
52:59
drawer out in the future
53:05
and cut their finger on this thing man that would be
53:13
bad
53:25
okay
53:32
all right let's get this out of the
53:42
way let's try that one more
53:53
time yeah it's kind of hard sometimes to visualize where the angle needs to
54:00
be to be
54:07
straight okay we're getting better at Pin nailing you guys are seeing it
54:25
live okay good moving on so right here just
54:34
while we're paused for a second this goes in here like that so
54:43
you guys can kind of understand how this
54:48
works now this again is made for/ inch plywood this Baltic Birch is metric on
54:56
on the thickness so it sticks out it's slightly less than the 16th um
55:04
but what that means is we need to be aware that when this goes in the van we just need to pull this uh
55:14
uh let's see what we're going to do we need to pull this
55:20
back just a hair just just a hair like that and that way
55:27
um that face can be on the front of it where it needs to
55:34
be okay there's our
55:40
bottom now I'm going to have to come and sand that glue off but that's
55:52
okay all right now we're going to put on our back
56:05
piece so this piece is the one where we pre-drill these two
56:10
holes and what they're going to do is this goes into this notch back here and
56:17
I think it's a E8 inch drill B that I used and that kind of what grabs this so
56:22
the drawer doesn't fall out or tip out uh if it's got you know wait on it when it goes
56:30
out okay so this is the one where I really needed to triple check my measurements
56:39
cuz this is the one where I had to uh had to inset this
56:48
piece and I think I needed to make it this one was the one 17 yeah 17 in
56:58
and then this okay yeah so the drawer bottom is
57:06
17 in and the reason I did that is because this
57:12
face uh piece all the way to where this little spike is is 17
57:20
and2 and we need to make sure that that half inch is taken up by this back piece
57:27
to lock in and to give this so it clicks in properly if it was too short or too
57:34
long if it was too long this plastic won't uh clip in if it's too short this
57:41
teeth and uh spike in the back won't fully
57:47
engage okay all right let's get glued up
57:55
and I think that might be
58:05
it all right so Kathy ask doing a nice job on uh you just got
58:11
a oh thank you you got a Transit Trail and you're using the AC
58:25
as so I didn't bench test it uh I have
58:33
installed it and when we take it outside in next couple days we
58:38
will test it outside so um if there's
58:44
something wrong then we'll we'll address it but I didn't bench test the AC um uh
58:50
pretty much uh any AC I've put in I haven't done that if they've all they've all worked well on first start up
58:57
so um no I haven't tested it yet but I am confident
59:04
that it will be just
59:23
fine I see the most important thing would be if you have the pneumatic
59:29
system is or what I'm going to do I don't think I'll have time to make a video while I'm doing it we'll have
59:36
you'll probably have to watch that video later but
59:45
um what I'm doing is I'm making sure that the Eco flow battery is going to be
59:51
fully charged before I start testing anything it's bad it's not good practice
59:57
to test things when things are not fully charged um so making sure your van
1:00:04
battery is fully charged like for your engine uh and then also making sure that
1:00:09
the ecoflow battery is fully charged you know any testing equipment that might use batteries or anything it's fully
1:00:18
charged uh if you're using solar and you're outside testing it you know making
1:00:24
sure uh you're
1:00:30
outside uh testing that
1:00:37
um all right let me pause in that answer because I need to really make sure I don't mess this
1:00:54
up
1:01:07
okay I'm going to wipe the glue off because I almost almost messed
1:01:23
up okay so I had to wipe the glue off off um the reason for is the back
1:01:38
here okay there's the back so the back here with the spikes
1:01:43
are when I cut the piece of wood again because this is this is the first time
1:01:48
that I'm putting this together or this system together uh when I put everything in
1:01:56
the uh this back
1:02:01
panel I cut it the same size as these panels but I actually need an additional half inch cut off of
1:02:09
it um I wasn't sure exactly how much that
1:02:15
was going to be so now that I have everything
1:02:23
assembled I can scribe my line and cut this on the table saw it'll just take me
1:02:28
a second but I'm glad that I didn't glue it in
1:02:35
cuz Okay so this back panel if you watch a bunch of carpentry
1:02:41
videos they overemphasize how this has to be cut special so you don't have to worry about the stuff in the back
1:02:50
um I'm just keeping things simple as you guys see got a box it's simple it's glue
1:02:55
together this back panel I cut it the same as the rest cuz I had the table saw the setting
1:03:01
and it was just easier to rip everything once but now the S the side panels go
1:03:08
over the D the drawer base goes on top of the slides this back one actually
1:03:14
goes on top of the slides the front one goes below the slides so it can kind of
1:03:21
be confusing as you see I almost didn't catch this but now I have this red tting on the top of the Rails where the spike
1:03:27
goes in and I'm just going to take out my pin and I'm just going to Mark right
1:03:34
there and Mark right here and then I'm just going to transfer that to the
1:03:41
top get a measurement and then just rip this off
1:03:48
okay okay so I'm going to turn the volume down because it's
1:03:55
going to get super super loud for a second and be right
1:04:00
back here you guys can see you can see the saw in
1:04:24
action
1:04:54
for
1:05:50
okay all right so we just eyeballed that let's see how we did perfect
1:05:59
okay I'm going to do it this [Music]
1:06:05
way okay just going to hit this with a sander really quick that this this glue
1:06:12
dries so [Laughter]
1:06:19
[Music] [Laughter]
1:06:24
fast sorry guys I have no idea how loud it
1:06:32
was all
1:06:45
right there we go final glue up that feels good
1:06:54
there Tad higher there we can we can sand that
1:07:24
down
1:07:43
I'm always back and forth when I do woodworking so when I start to do woodworking I want to do prefabbed units
1:07:52
you know for Vans I don't really want to build
1:07:57
uh everything kind of one off but then you start building it and then it's
1:08:03
really enjoyable so it's it is I don't know
1:08:09
what do you do
1:08:20
okay all right I had a rubber mallet somewhere where I put it
1:08:37
trying to keep this on the drawer slide so that get
1:08:45
some real world feedback here about where I want this to
1:08:53
be okay
1:09:05
okay actually let's take this
1:09:15
off I don't want to glue it to the slide come
1:09:24
on all right so
1:09:32
that's we're doing the right thing this is the right way to build this there we
1:09:39
go
1:09:46
okay so this
1:09:52
one just got make sure we can get our pin nailer in here bring it to the
1:09:57
edge seems to be the way to do this
1:10:19
okay all right so now we're going to need
1:10:24
to Square this top up that's why I got
1:10:53
this gosh that glue BL dries so
1:11:24
fast
1:12:24
okay
1:14:23
so I'm just drawing a reference line so they don't nail through the whole
1:14:47
box all right let's get this thing put together this thing's taking a minute
1:14:53
here just making sure we're doing it
1:15:23
right
1:16:47
[Music]
1:16:53
is
1:17:26
again another nailing reference
1:17:34
line so I don't do double work here trying to fix
1:17:53
everything
1:18:23
for
1:18:44
man look at that no mess ups all right finally okay we have a
1:18:52
process now for making drawers I can move much faster on the
1:18:57
kitchen Galley so the kitchen Galley I can make one two three four drawers um this was the biggest
1:19:04
one so this thing is pretty awesome guys I'm very happy with the way that this
1:19:12
drawer came out so I'll just show you the front here so the front I'm going to keep these
1:19:20
on uh that will just ensure that this stays
1:19:27
Square even though there it's probably I can take him off but I'm not going to
1:19:33
um because I'm going to work on this so this is the face actually this is the wrong
1:19:41
one other one's over here so when I cut when I
1:19:52
um when I made the face frame for the fridge stack each hole that I cut out
1:19:58
for this drawer I make sure I do it uh very intentionally and I do it very precisely
1:20:06
so use a track saww and I cut out the whole thing I don't just take a jigaw and cut it out just to rush and what I
1:20:13
do is by taking your time this is the piece that I cut out it says front here
1:20:19
and then on the back it says bottom drawer top and the back and this is the
1:20:24
direction of the top so this is the part of the face frame that got cut out to make room for this drawer
1:20:32
but if you take your time you can repurpose this and it just saves a bunch
1:20:38
of time and this will now be the drawer face so I'm can turn it this way now you
1:20:45
guys can see that this actually looks like a normal drawer it is a big drawer
1:20:50
in a van um that's one reason I was excited to make it um so this will have this one latch
1:20:58
it'll be right up here and you get one pull latch and then you get these drawer slides
1:21:04
so um let's see
1:21:12
here I wonder yeah I'll have to I'll have to do that off camera
1:21:21
um okay got all kinds of new ideas in my head all right so we're going to take
1:21:27
our drawer slides and I'm going to show
1:21:33
you how this whole thing goes together so remember you got this plastic clip
1:21:39
down here you want to be careful it's very
1:21:44
fragile it's not bad quality it's just until it's part of the drawer it's
1:21:51
going to be slightly weak
1:22:00
so now our drawer we lift this up you can see we've got our notched out area
1:22:06
so this is our half inch Notch and we didn't do anything fancy we didn't do a dado or anything
1:22:13
like that we just made it nice and simple and what we did was just Elevate this bottom and the
1:22:18
backside we used use these halfin spacers and that gave gave us our
1:22:27
uh the appropriate depth so that we
1:22:33
could get the appropriate depth so that we could actually
1:22:38
um Mount this on here so that relief you see here this little
1:22:46
step make sure nobody's there you go this little step so if we take this off
1:22:52
there's a step right here so that's step so this goes right here just like
1:23:03
that um and let's
1:23:12
see that's half
1:23:22
[Music] inch
1:23:35
anyway this goes here guess I could put that in the
1:23:42
drawer I've got about a 16th of an inch
1:23:49
here I actually might have to read some stuff um anyway this goes here and then
1:23:56
when we have this in the van this will this will come down just like this
1:24:04
and if you listen this clicks this Clicks in
1:24:14
here if this goes in that hole in the
1:24:21
back okay so that's working let's get this
1:24:41
there we go yep say click so now this is clicked in here so imagine this would be
1:24:47
drilled in bolted in here um I'm going to put one
1:24:56
ah I need to pre-drill it uh I'm just going to hold this so now
1:25:01
that this is held and this right here is actually bolted into the van when you open the drawer you can see this now
1:25:08
opens just like
1:25:21
that and then this little
1:25:37
shut so let's get this spike out the back
1:25:45
here all right I'm
1:25:53
curious
1:26:11
okay well that's pretty much it for this live let's see if uh how many people we got on here
1:26:17
awesome let me head over to the big camera thank everybody for watching this
1:26:32
stream all right guys we made our drawer so we're going to go ahead and bolt it into the van finish up the rest of the
1:26:39
work here uh but yeah we knocked that out we are moving on to the next step of the project so thank you guys so much
1:26:45
for watching uh make sure you guys are subscribed to the channel um hit that notification Bell because I go live
1:26:51
randomly throughout the week also go over to Van Builder hq.com um we actually have a free DIY van build cheat
1:26:58
sheet if you guys are interested it is essentially the last three years of all my Amazon purchases put into an Excel
1:27:05
sheet and it's free it's over 250 curated items so if it has been

1:27:24
there's new stuff coming out there all the time I do need to update it with a couple things uh for example the ecoflow
1:27:29
items are not on there um but yeah DIY van build cheat sheet link is in the

1:28:00
professional van building business and uh you can check out the website
1:28:08
here little video about one of my latest builds um that is now sold so the van
1:28:15
right here the adventure van that we built and took to the adventure van Expo and we took it to um the Southeast
1:28:24
Adventure vehicle uh Expo as well Southeast Adventure vehicle Expo in
1:28:32
Stark Florida uh this van it is sold guys so we have a
1:28:39
new owner to this van and we will actually be uh customizing this van further
1:28:46
believe it or not so we're actually going to be lifting this van and we are going to be uh doing some
1:28:53
other modific uh so look out for that we'll have more
1:28:59
pictures on that but um it's very exciting uh a couple that bought this
1:29:05
it's they're awesome this is definitely their van for sure they have
1:29:10
uh uh this van is their van for sure when they saw it um I just knew it was
1:29:15
their van because it fits them their personality 100% And it's going to be
