1:49
hey everyone welcome to tonight's live stream we are going to be installing uh the vinyl Hood graphics for our
1:55
adventure van build um because we actually uh I decided to go to Southeast
2:02
Adventure vehicle Expo this weekend and the reason I'm going to this
2:08
is uh I had a great time at peace Ling Vans but we had two days of solid rain
2:13
so what we had is the audience was really just the campers that had came to Camp that already have a
2:20
van and the daily attendees are what I was looking forward to meeting so
2:25
there's a big gap in between the shows this year so this show show in March for
2:31
March 1st through 3rd at Southeast Adventure vehicle Expo this is the last show in this area um or the southeast
2:38
for that matter that I know of if you guys know of more shows let me know in the comments I'd
2:44
love to to see those shows but this is the one for this weekend I'm going to come Circle back I'll talk more about it
2:50
because it's pretty cool I went last year wasn't planning on going this year but um yeah just going to go for two
2:57
days on that event so these are the events that uh you guys have seen a lot
3:03
of videos on the channel Adventure van Expo and the schedule has really changed this year so there were there was two
3:09
shows that uh we really enjoyed going to um one of them that we took the van to
3:15
was the Chattanooga show two years in a row this would be the third year however
3:21
um on the current schedule right now uh everything
3:27
is uh Texas is the closest one right now um I mean I I don't think uh let's see
3:36
here Arizona Texas California California Oregon Idaho Colorado Washington
3:41
California California California so this is the schedule as it currently shows so
3:47
the Chattanooga show is not on here um which is interesting because uh that's a
3:53
pretty good show there's a lot of great Builders out there um that we really enjoyed that show so I'm hoping if you
4:00
guys see this uh let's get that show back on the schedule um I know it was
4:05
kind of competing with Adventure van Expo and uh that's hard so I mean sorry
4:11
it was competing with uh Overland Expo East and I know that's pretty hard but I
4:17
think the dates are pretty flexible I mean um as far as you know changing the
4:22
event to another day uh but I digress on that that is a it's a good show um I may
4:28
actually fly out later this year and do one of these to get some coverage for you guys so uh if you are interested
4:36
specifically in one of these shows let me know in the comments uh which one and I'll see if I can make that
4:43
happen and over here we've got the other only show that I know of
4:48
in the Southeast so this is the North Carolina RV Dealers Association show so
4:53
I went there last year and uh the video footage was that I
4:59
took on the GoPro uh was not good it was a real dark environment so I didn't
5:04
publish that video for you guys I may go back and do some highlights later but I did go and attend that show I attended
5:11
the Raleigh show that's in August um so it's in August again this year however
5:16
again that's later on in the year and the shows that they've already done this year the January show um so
5:24
those two the Raleigh show the 15th through 18th that's the one where let's
5:34
see yes so P of Vans would have been during that time anyway so you can see
5:39
the shows this year are pretty spread out as far as Adventure Vans or just van
5:44
shows in general if you guys know of a show please let me know in the comments of something coming up this summer I'd
5:49
love to uh go check it out but circling around we've got the southeast Adventure vehicle
5:55
Expo and uh so this is perfect for the adventure build because this is an Overland style event which means you
6:03
know all-wheel drive Vans Overland style vehicles are going to be there um and
6:10
vans are really coming into this market so this Market originally overlanding is you know forerunners
6:16
Tacomas um like Jeep Gladiators stuff like that are what go to these events
6:23
but as the popularity of Adventure Vans go um they're also going to be there so live more Camper vans was actually there
6:29
last year uh Moxy van was there last year and um I'm trying to think of who
6:35
else was out there there's like two or three other ones that I didn't meet just
6:40
because uh busy filming the show but on my YouTube channel van Builder HQ we do
6:47
have the show from last year so um go ahead and check that out I'm actually going to let me hop over
6:55
here um let me let's see
7:01
let you guys look at the van here that we're attempting to wrap in just a second but let me go in here and get
7:07
that YouTube link and that way you guys can check out the
7:24
event see [Music] Adventure
7:34
there we go it's the one that has the thumbnail of like the pullout drawer
7:44
slide so they call it the save
7:51
Expo okay so that is the vbh q's video of the
7:58
event uh okay so we've got
8:06
um Backwoods Adventure mods they were
8:12
there this one also got rained on too oh man
8:17
that's it doesn't rain that much uh you know rains briefly in Florida every now and then but um it's funny how we caught
8:25
all this rain uh dedic was there with their fridge freezers and stuff like
8:32
that um we interviewed draw systems.com so they did
8:37
a interior build for this customer and I'll just show you a few
8:43
more and then we'll actually get on to what we're doing tonight uh they have you know Backpacker
8:48
meals if you're taking your van camping then we got Liv
8:53
more showing off uh one of their newer builds
9:00
and let's see where else we've
9:06
got yeah and then Moxy had this Earth RoR style van it's uh or truck it's F550
9:14
it's a grid Overland I think is the name of the the
9:21
company gr not to be confused with grit so grid
9:28
Overland anyway that video is in the uh uh link below and
9:36
um let's uh let's get started on these Graphics it's going to it's going to be a very long stream so maybe you guys
9:43
will enjoy that um let me get on my wireless mic over
9:50
here okay and I can actually see the computer from where I'm
9:56
at all right so this is the vinyl graphic and I took
10:04
the van outside to wash it because I needed to get all the dirt whenever you install a vinyl graphic on a van you
10:10
want to have the van as clean as possible the whole van you don't want any dust or anything sticking anywhere
10:16
um so they can make a little bump or Ripple in the uh in the vinyl so this has been uh
10:24
cleaned this bottom down here is cleaned too uh so I just use Windex be careful
10:31
when you do when you wash a van sometimes you have like a wash and wax or it'll have some type of residue to
10:36
make it look nice and shiny you're going to want to take you know Windex or something something to cut that wax uh
10:43
substance off of it um now what I now don't quote me on this but what I've heard in the past is you could wax it if
10:49
you intend on taking this off like you wanted it temporary um so I've heard of that but this
10:56
one we got from our local uh high performance Graphics so not sponsored or
11:01
anything but they're local in Hickory and uh they made the graphic for the
11:09
side of the van which I also need to put on I've already done a video on that but they made this uh right here that goes
11:17
on the side this goes on the ladder side and this is called topographical
11:24
map that's what this look is and and I know I told you that I was
11:30
going to show you how the process of going to a company and getting this
11:36
so let me get back in my emails over here and I'll show
11:42
you um I'll show you what I got so I don't have thing any things
11:49
sensitive over here so hopefully we'll be all right okay um so right here this is the
11:58
email that I sent uh Darren he's one of my contacts over there and uh so basically what you want to do is you
12:04
find a company and then um so I he had actually they had helped me with my etch
12:11
glass vinyl that I used for Thomas's van and so this is what this is the graphic
12:17
that they made and then what I did is I took uh plexiglass and I put this graphic on
12:25
there now what you have to do is tell them to diecut which keep it so that the
12:30
backer paper peels off and then you want to um inverse the image so instead of
12:37
the adhesive being on the back side of the letters you want it on the front side of the letters so that when you
12:44
wipe the front you don't feel the graphic because the graphic is in fact behind on the back side of the acrylic
12:52
or plexiglass um and then what I did was I
12:57
just gave him my logo and you want to make sure you have a high quality image a PNG
13:03
uh jpeg will not work um you need something uh vector graphics would be
13:11
like a EPS file or something like that that's what you want to use so uh if
13:16
you've worked with a graphic designer or you have uh a graphic designer that's put this in a folder for you what
13:22
they'll do is they'll usually export it into a PDF a PNG a JPEG an EPS file
13:29
um or maybe like Adobe Illustrator file so all that those files have different
13:34
types of information and instructions for the plotters which are the printers
13:40
that actually print these graphics and um depending on what filed is it can
13:46
actually uh be vectorized so what that means is when the image gets bigger or
13:51
smaller um everything propagates together so when you stretch it out it
13:57
gets bigger uh and it doesn't lose quality so any of these uh radiuses or
14:02
corners or Curves or sharp edges would will maintain their um they won't uh
14:10
what's the word I'm trying to say they won't pixelate or uh you know look like
14:15
you zoomed in on the image um and so what I did is I gave them some
14:22
examples of something to create so these are just two uh vans
14:29
that I saw online and so I gave them two examples and you really anytime you're working with the graphics you want to
14:35
give them the best files and you want to give them the best information and so what I did is I said you know I want it
14:41
matte black white topographical map lines example below um and then Matt vinyl I want the
14:51
driver side and the passenger side those are the that's the second graphic I showed you um but for this video the
14:57
front hood uh I so here's where I messed up a
15:03
little bit I told them 32 in by 80 in and I wanted that to be
15:09
the main area so there's like a safe area or like important area you may see
15:15
with like some Dash lines and that's the that's my minimum I but I should have oversized it
15:21
I should have made it you know 36x 86 or something like that so when you when you
15:28
come over here and you look at this it is uh I've got about a qu of an inch on
15:34
the top and about a eighth of an inch uh no about a quarter inch on top and bottom which is it's it's very close um
15:45
I should be okay I should be able to stretch it just a hair around some corners but um we'll see we'll see if uh
15:52
I have to actually order a whole another piece but uh then I also asked them if
15:58
somebody could install it at my shop just cuz I have other things that uh I need to get done and um everybody's
16:04
really busy so they're they're U they were booked up couldn't do that and then
16:10
option two um you know just had the vinyl cut to size and I'll install it so you see I'm I'm very thorough in the
16:16
instructions and this helps the back and forth this just helps all the answer all the questions uh this helps answer all
16:24
the questions up front and then you know attach your photos and all that good stuff and then
16:30
they'll get back to you with a quote um let's
16:39
see okay so this right here this is uh what they
16:45
call a proof and you want to make sure that you have a proof that you can confirm everything
16:52
looks good so the proof is pretty much what is going to be sent to the plotters uh or the die cutting machine to
16:58
actually print the graphic um so this
17:05
one what I'm mostly concerned with on the sides of the van was the uh the
17:11
relationship to the AUD custom Vans logo top and bottom to left and right uh because I have a contour at the
17:19
top Contour at the bottom and I just need to give myself enough room so that's why measurements really
17:24
matter um but once you get the proof you approve it and then they have something down here to disclaimer saying that when
17:30
you approve it you know they're not going to make any changes but this is approve you approve
17:36
it you pay them they print it you pick it up that's that's pretty much the whole entire
17:43
process now let's get over to um the actual installing of this
17:52
so what I've done is I've laid the graphic down and um I've actually got
17:58
the the hood popped up and I may change this but what I
18:04
really wanted to do is be able to roll this under the other side and then just trim it as I
18:10
go um the side ones were straightforward approach start at the beginning go to
18:17
the end I was going to do that on this one but I kind of messed myself up because I
18:24
everything is so everything is so tight so for example if you see right here if
18:30
I pull the graphic down and I bend it over I'm only going back a quarter of an inch so I can't really mess up there
18:38
I've got a quarter inch over here I've got a half inch in the middle so I think that's where um so The Middle's fine but then
18:47
remember this graphic has to be one piece to meet up to the top of the hood
18:53
so when you measure you're really thinking just really oversize this I should have definitely gone with about
18:59
six inches on each side so even though it costs more just oversize it you can
19:04
always cut it off um so now this one up here is right where this goes so I've
19:10
got this t uh in place um my Approach is I'm going to
19:16
actually start from the middle and go out and hopefully what I can do is lock in this position this orientation so
19:25
that when I get over here I'm not down a quarter of an inch in or a half inch that sort of thing again that wouldn't
19:32
matter if I had uh ordered this right but um so I washed the the van outside I
19:40
brought it in the engine's still warm actually right now um which is nice because it's kind of relaxing the vinyl but one thing you
19:48
can do is you can get a heat gun and you need to be extremely careful with a heat gun you may watch a lot of YouTube
19:54
videos and you see them doing like putting a bunch of heat stretching it you know pre-shrinking all that good
20:01
stuff um every piece of vinyl is different window tent is a little different than
20:07
this vinyl this vinyl is extremely sensitive to heat so uh I got caught in
20:13
a situation around the back windows where I was trying to move it around the window and it got a little too
20:20
warm and uh it got weak really fast I mean it got really weak so just
20:27
depending on what vinyl you have um but if you have a heat gun what you can do is turn out it's low setting keep your
20:34
hand uh in front of the heat so you can monitor how hot it
20:39
is and then all I'm doing is just kind of relaxing the uh the
20:46
[Applause] vinyl now with this vinyl this has a air release technology
20:53
and it's really it this is a very work
20:58
workable uh piece of vinyl so I'm not not really worried about that
21:05
but you know just putting a little heat into it um to help it kind of relax over
21:10
the hood takes the curls out of the vinyl and um just makes it a little
21:17
easier to work with in my [Applause]
21:24
opinion but you see I'm putting my hand I'm letting the heat blow on my hand CU I don't want
21:29
to since I know that this vinyl is really sensitive I don't want to screw
21:36
it up but uh this has already been sitting on the hood for a while the engine is
21:42
kind of warmed it up so what I'm doing is this I'm basically just showing you guys how to do
21:47
this um so the next thing I'm going to do is
21:53
I'll have a pair of uh sometime if depending on if you have
21:59
a lot of grease in your hands you're going to want to wash your hands before you work on this or you could wear gloves um I'm kind of 50/50 it's just
22:06
it's kind of how I if I feel like I want to or not I'll probably wash my hands right before I do this um but my
22:14
Approach is I'm going to take some masking tape and I'm just going to try to lock
22:19
in this middle it'd be easier just to start you know left to right and roll it on
22:26
but what I'm doing is I need to
22:33
uh I need to have this not move I don't want this to move because I can't afford
22:39
it to kind of go left to
22:45
right so one piece that should be enough it's kind of like an
22:50
anchor and a lot of this stuff I'm just making up this is not anything that I read online this is just me and my brain
22:56
thinking uh how can I solve this
23:06
issue but yeah let me know if you guys have any questions think go and do I think I saw
23:13
you on the live stream so
23:26
welcome so hopefully that'll kind of keep me where I need to be um and
23:32
actually I might do one more strand so I don't really know if this is
23:38
going to work yet but my gut tells me that this is
23:44
a a way to do it um but when I fold this
23:49
over I'm going to have to figure out how to uh rip the backing off so I can kind
23:55
of peel it out and then put it down so but I can feel the engine is actually
24:02
warm which that's actually really helping out next we need to understand that we
24:08
have a couple things going on so right here we have a big old plastic vent from
24:14
Ford and another plastic vent over here and what I was going to do is I was just
24:20
going to pop them out um they break when you pop them out typically uh however if they were 50 or
24:28
something like that I would have just broke them and then just bought you know I was okay spending like a hundred bucks
24:33
buying some more plastic but I think they're almost 180 bucks each or something like that um something stopped
24:40
me from actually purchasing them because they were so high priced so what I'm going to do is just
24:45
be very uh neat and take just a nice piece of my vinyl tool and work with
24:52
it speaking of vinyl tool I've got a whole entire kit I basically just got this kit off of Amazon it's got these
24:59
really nice uh almost look like dental tools so they help you poke it around different areas um you've got an
25:05
extremely sharp uh xacto knife razor blade it's got a very narrow
25:13
blade on it um so that all comes in this little kit then you've got these felt
25:21
pads these uh scrapers and you want to make sure you don't have any grit dust
25:27
or like a little somehow we got some uh little pieces of wood flake on there
25:33
wood is very abrasive so if you've been cutting wood in your shop and you're trying to do something wood is very
25:40
abrasive but now that we got this clean this is going to help me move and lay
25:45
the vinyl down um helps me push out the air bubbles this is what we're going to use
25:51
on the other side of the van uh I've already done a video on that so I won't do it again but this is called knife tape from 3M
25:59
uh it's actually technically called 3M Design Line knifeless tape so that's a
26:06
really good product and then we got some more xacto knives
26:12
um and what's nice is it comes in this little pouch and so you can kind of keep
26:18
it all right let's check out the chat
26:26
here oh awesome that's awesome you're going to do Hood vinyl yeah Hood vinyl is a
26:32
really cool thing to do um the matte black hood vinyl is actually from the
26:37
world of uh um I don't know if it's like racing or even overlanding but I feel
26:43
like it's almost like racing where it's it's keeping the glare from the driver
26:49
so it's a functional purpose but since it looks cool people are starting to do
26:54
that and so that's why you want to get a matte vinyl um we're going from a white
27:01
gloss Hood to this so you know that much better but yeah it's a cool thing to do um let
27:09
me see if I can actually get the price just to give you guys that ballpark for how much um I got charged
27:15
on the see
27:26
hyper
27:32
let's see how much I got charged let's see roll
27:38
print two mat so the hood vinyl was about 160
27:47
bucks which for a custom graphic I think that's uh and this this has a air
27:53
release technology um so you can actually push the bubbles out you actually don't have
27:59
to pop them or anything like that uh there's like these really like micro laser holes in here I I I held like a
28:06
iPhone to the back of it and you can see these micro perforations it's really cool
28:12
um but remember you're doing a oneoff vinyl piece so they're not um you're not
28:19
doing a whole bunch or a whole entire van so it may sound expensive but I think in the world of custom vinyl
28:25
graphic a custom topo map plus design time so this is not something I don't
28:30
know if they pulled off the internet or they made it but um you know somebody
28:36
may have whatever you're deciding to do they may have to design it but if you're just doing a straight matte black vinyl
28:43
oh I mean you can actually just buy a roll of that on Amazon it might be 60 bucks or something like that but try to
28:51
get 3M um there's some knockoffs out there that might just give be a real pain in the butt to work with this stuff
28:58
is more expensive but it actually is really nice to work with and I don't have any problem really getting any air
29:04
bubbles out so we got a piece of plastic here got a piece of plastic
29:09
here um so yeah I'm just going to kind of play this by ear as far as how I go I'll
29:16
just talk and tell you what I'm doing or what's going on in my head um so one thing I'm going to do is
29:25
I'm going to start cutting off all this excess stuff that's uh G it's just going to be in my way so I'm going to come
29:32
down here and just kind of Mark that this is a this is kind of my safe area to cut
29:43
off so I'll come in and I'm going take a pair of scissors
29:48
I'm going to cut this
29:54
off let's see where put the
29:59
scissors actually might just use a razor
30:06
blade so yeah I'm just going to come over here
30:20
and make sure you don't scratch your headlight if you're kind of copying me but just kind of getting that out of
30:28
the way see over
30:41
here yeah be very careful with the
30:48
headlight all right got that
30:54
out and what I wanted to do is I actually wanted to this dip up here in the hood I wanted to cut this dip out
31:02
um but I I think it's going to take away the structure and it's going to make my thing
31:08
fall and some people watching this may be like Nick you're you're really OCD in
31:14
this um it's not OCD as much as I don't have another piece I didn't you know I
31:20
don't have I don't have an extra piece so I can't I can't mess this
31:26
up
31:53
yeah it's really that's something that is really good about this vinyl is uh definitely with rock chips 100% that's
32:01
definitely going to help out um my personal van has a ton of rock chips on
32:07
the front um and you can actually get this in different thicknesses uh this is pretty much basic
32:15
vinyl um this is a good quality vinyl actually don't know the name of it but I just know from working with it that it
32:23
must be a pretty good grade of vinyl because it's the ease of working with it
32:29
uh impressed me so maybe if I can actually get the uh
32:35
the name of this vinyl I can tell you guys what that
32:42
is okay yeah so really what I'm doing is
32:48
I'm I'm just trying to figure out my Approach
32:56
here going through make sure there's no lot of dust this Hood's uh rough just
33:03
because it hasn't been um like clay barred or whatever so but it's it's
33:11
clean all right let's see
33:25
here okay so I think what I'm going to do is I'm going take this back
33:39
off also be careful with the tape you use uh masking tape sometimes is too aggressive you might rip a the coating
33:47
off or something
33:55
um
34:17
okay I think what I'm going do is I'm going to keep that top like that uh then I'm going to lock down this
34:23
bottom corner
34:29
okay so that should anchor that so that this is not
34:36
moving cuz I need to let this uh you guys can see when I'm roll
34:42
rolling it it curls up so
34:51
now your install will be much easier um cuz you won't have to be fighting
34:58
with this uh minimum area to work with Okay so right
35:03
here okay so my goal is this right here is what what's going to lock my graphic
35:09
in and then I can just kind of relax uh going that way so I'm just going to
35:15
go do a quick wash of my
35:25
hands
35:46
all
35:55
right then I'm going to cut and peel the vinyl
36:01
back on this top
36:25
side
36:50
I know there's going to be some professional installers being like what are you doing
36:58
well if you would like to comment below you can you can comment
37:25
below
37:34
the one risk that I have doing this is I can get paper so the non removable paper
37:40
stuck to uh this graphic and I'm going to have it'll make
37:47
it hard to peel off
37:55
but yeah but in my mind right now there's not another way for me
38:00
to you'll see what I mean but when I say lock it
38:25
in
39:29
almost there yeah I'm just let you know you
39:35
will not have this challenging of a time when when you do
39:41
it the uh the other
39:47
way okay so make sure I got enough room perfect there we
39:53
go all right so you guys can probably see now what I'm talking about hopefully
39:58
so now I've got this exposed I've got this rolled up and so now I can take
40:03
this out this way and roll unroll it as I go that way but what was the most
40:10
important to me is that this when I roll this down so I'm just going to go ahead
40:16
and do
40:25
it
40:31
okay so by doing what I just did there I've
40:37
locked this kind of graphic down to the hood So in theory as I go left to right
40:46
I should be able to
40:52
um uh not worry about this
41:14
don't have to worry about this uh not being where I want it
41:22
[Applause] later
41:30
[Applause]
41:46
and I'm not going to be pressing down on this vinyl too hard because if I need to move it I want to be able to lift it
41:53
up and move it
42:18
[Applause]
42:25
okay okay the top made it that's all I was
42:30
worrying about man that was H not out of the
42:36
woods yet but the top the top is where it's supposed to be thank
42:48
God okay man it's like an eighth of an inch it is
42:54
way that's a way too close
43:11
okay again just lightly just ever so slightly slightly
43:19
lightly and just like with upholstery we want to if there's a if there's a a
43:24
ripple here or a r Le here we don't want to push it here we want to pull it taunt
43:31
from the very outside so there's a little bubble here so if I take it and I
43:37
grip it and I just pull everything get clean everything gets cleaned out and I just lightly put my hand but I'm maintaining
43:44
pressure up here on the top so just like
43:55
that
44:25
okay
44:54
that
45:24
for
46:04
now one thing don't be too hard on yourself but you know if you've already got some dents or dings or something like
46:11
that for example this truck has only been on a trailer for two trips uh when I bought it from the
46:18
dealership uh you can't see it's really hard in the white paint but you know
46:23
there might be like a little tiny Speck or little tiny chip in the paint
46:30
and you're going to fill that in the vinyl so if you have a lot of them you know matte vinyl is probably what you
46:36
want to go with um you maybe go in so far as to wet sand it out
46:42
or you know just do a little bit of uh like some paint
46:49
treatment um might make
46:54
that might make the vinyl uh work better or look better for
47:01
you or look the best that it can look we'll say that all right so right
47:10
here I'm going have to uh that is that compound curve that's
47:17
going to take a lot of work I just uh tried to do some some something
47:22
simple there and it was it didn't want to go so but like
47:28
there's a just a tiny tiny pin dot here and it's possible that the heat
47:34
will make those go away but that's from like a little tiny bit of sand or something just hitting this as it was uh
47:48
going okay so we're going to have to figure out I'll have to figure that out here
47:54
later so what I'm doing over here is I'm just
48:01
I'm kind of learning on this side and then that way this side will go really
48:24
easy
48:31
yeah I'll have to figure out what the name of this vinyl is cuz it you don't have to use a heat gun at
48:38
all I'm just just using my hand and just uh I rub over these bubbles just for a
48:45
little bit and they just go right
48:52
away now I don't want to press on this middle area cuz I haven't figured out how I'm going to uh work on that I may
48:58
actually have to cut and then pull and do something over here so don't push
49:03
down anywhere that you're not ready to commit to it being there kind of
49:24
forever
49:45
you guys can't see it up here but I I honestly I have an eighth of an
49:53
inch just enough for me to roll it over that edge I mean
50:00
so I got really lucky on this one oh what I also did is I lifted the
50:06
hood up and I cleaned underneath the whole entire Edge so I've cleaned that twice all the rubber everything so then
50:12
when I lift this up and I want to roll in I won't be getting grit or Grime on
50:17
the sticker or the adhesive part and it's it's going to stay there
50:23
um cuz that's the part is actually going to come up first if if anything comes up
50:28
uh over time and the vinyl graphic is not going to last forever so just just be aware
50:36
it's not going to last forever it's going to be in the heat of the sun it's outside
50:42
24/7 if you know you don't garage keep your vehicle in a
50:49
garage all right
51:17
now you can use that felt scraper to do this um I just like doing it by hand for
51:23
the feel uh
51:28
okay and also just heads up I do have the hood the hoods popped
51:34
up so it's not all the way clicked down that way I can make sure I get around this
51:44
Edge and depending on what vinyl you have if you mess up and you crease a line uh depending on what you're using
51:51
you you know there is a little bit of forgiveness in this in vinyl
51:56
material if you watch the pros Do It um you know sometimes they you see them
52:02
ripping it up and down but I I have no idea what they're they're
52:11
using okay so this is going to be this right here is already a
52:22
challenge so all this is easy these when it curves around so if it's spreading
52:27
out it's easy but when it starts to come together
52:36
uh that's tends to be the hard
52:54
one
53:03
okay oh man this front area is
53:08
challenging for
53:17
sure gu what I also don't want to do is I don't want to mess pull it like stretch it too
53:44
much see when I'm doing that I'm getting these these bands in
53:54
here
54:24
um
56:56
yeah if you guys are watching and you know how to take these creases out
57:01
um instead of doing them just kind of one by one by one you have a
57:09
method well I guess that's hard to explain if you're typing it I guess it would be easier just to
57:16
tell
57:23
somebody
58:14
so what I'm doing a little bit differently is uh I'm a little bit more patient than I was with the bump out
58:20
windows when I did them I kind of
58:25
you know when you watch a YouTube video and you're trying to emulate what somebody's doing but you don't have any
58:30
skill yet so you're trying to make it look like you know what you're doing not that
58:37
anybody's around you're just trying to like do the Motions uh yeah sometimes that doesn't
58:49
work yeah these creases are really these are hard the problem is I'm having to lift
58:55
the I have to keep lifting the vinyl up to get them out and what I'm doing is actually de
59:01
feeding the purpose of because I'm stretching the vinyl
59:06
every time I do that
59:23
so
59:35
so sometimes just take a break and just go to a different start working on a different
59:44
piece yeah because we can already see what's happening here I'm going to I don't know if I can shrink that at
59:52
all it didn't work for me the last last time I did this with the the side of the
1:00:23
van
1:00:33
[Music]
1:00:53
h
1:02:02
because as I'm going down there the confidence gets boosted because you think you're doing good but what's going
1:02:07
to happen is you'll find yourself dragging it this way and then you're going to start bunching up here or
1:02:13
you're dragging it this way and now you got this extra bit um and that's you
1:02:18
know so now I'm having to take care of this and take care of this there may be a method to where you
1:02:24
don't get into any of that trouble but I have not learned that
1:02:53
yet
1:06:02
okay guys new skill unlocked I I was uh hopefully don't mess me up over here but
1:06:08
I got really aggressive with the stretch right at the end to pull out these
1:06:14
uh ripples so
1:06:21
far it was working
1:06:27
except these two guys right here don't want to come
1:06:43
down okay
1:06:48
yeah that's working
1:07:30
I'm bring you a little bit closer since I'm doing all this detail
1:07:37
work so I found out that this uh 360 link camera it's a
1:07:45
4K streaming camera um I found that when I take it off of 1920 x 1080 mode and
1:07:53
not 4K so it it's HDR right now but if I change it to
1:08:00
4K um the image looks terrible
1:08:06
so that was random but if you're wondering I'm not sure why I guess 4K uh
1:08:11
4K is not hdr on that camera and the HDR for this [Music]
1:08:18
scene because the black and white apparently is the way to go okay
1:08:28
all right so that is looking good going to do a little bit around the
1:08:33
vent here not too much because I may need to adjust the vent
1:08:41
area um we're locked down pretty good so let's go ahead
1:08:47
and oh yeah I forgot about this front section
1:08:52
okay this will be good to
1:09:10
uh okay let's see if we can get this pulled out how we doing on anybody
1:09:19
in the chat okay
1:09:41
all right so the hard part is see how this is uh we got these ripples
1:09:48
here that is what's been really challenging with this whole thing is yeah how do we get rid of these these
1:10:08
ripples I came back over here because I'm trying to pull some more vinyl to the side so that when I pull it
1:10:16
down in theory that's that's what I'm trying to
1:10:21
do these look really hard let's
1:10:40
just okay I'm G to change of my gloves because I think even though I got my hands washed
1:10:47
I think your little like your skin will actually come underneath the
1:10:56
vinyl that won't make it stick too
1:11:10
well yeah so see this part up here is
1:11:17
what it's challenging just trying to get that stuff to not come back as you go
1:11:22
down
1:11:42
CU we actually we have to make it down to
1:11:52
here
1:12:22
h
1:13:49
there might not be an easy way I think it's just patience
1:14:22
see I don't like the gloves cuz I can't feel I can't feel how the the bubbles are going
1:14:52
down
1:15:11
I know the uh the tension I'm put on this is adding to the problem
1:15:16
but um it's not still got I have to put tension on
1:15:22
this or it will you continue to crease the whole way
1:15:52
down
1:18:39
[Applause]
1:19:37
[Applause]
1:19:50
[Applause] okay
1:20:23
yeah this part right here is just pretty
1:20:51
challenging
1:21:21
for
1:23:21
for
1:24:21
all
1:24:37
yeah this section right here I just can't get this
1:24:49
down so we'll see if we can do a better approach on the other
1:25:21
side
1:26:21
for
1:26:51
for
1:27:03
all right let's see what's going on here so I'm G to pull the camera out I'm
1:27:10
just going to clean up this right hand side and
1:27:16
uh I'll probably be the stream for tonight because this will probably take me another 20 30 minutes um then I'll just
1:27:25
continue working off camera on the other side show you guys a picture
1:27:51
tomorrow
1:31:50
that
1:32:20
for
1:32:50
for
1:33:51
yeah so as you can probably tell it's going to look good for the show but I'm going to redo
1:34:00
this so I'm just temporarily putting this back in
1:34:07
here because from manipulating this so much what happens is it's lost its adhesive even though I've been using a
1:34:12
glove it's just it's just uh it's just not sticking around this corner
1:34:20
so
1:34:32
because typically you just want maybe not even a quarter of an inch maybe an
1:34:38
eighth of an inch or so kind of coming over underneath the uh
1:34:43
the hood
1:34:50
area
1:35:35
so what I'm doing I'm actually this is much more overlap than you would typically do I'm just making sure that
1:35:42
this stays adhered um for the show and then I'll take it off and do it again
1:35:54
we'll obviously take off and uh I'll put
1:36:00
a new vinyl
1:36:09
on it sucks CU this this is everything else is probably going to be perfect on This Hood except this just this one
1:36:16
section um I just I worked on it too long
1:36:51
got
1:37:14
if you had this issue uh you actually might be okay with just a couple of those little baby ripples um
1:37:23
sometimes I tend to over perfect but um
1:37:28
I think if I do a different method I can actually get that out but if you just have a couple you
1:37:34
can probably do the whole entire Hood DIY just um if just okay with those couple ripples then uh then you're
1:37:42
good just get your get your hood graphic on and keep
1:37:49
going all right so for these Corners what I'm doing is I cut a slit just like
1:37:54
a pulsy and I fold one over in and then one on top of itself tends to work pretty
1:38:02
good same thing with these just these
1:38:20
corners
1:38:50
for
1:39:20
for
1:40:41
okay let's close this and we'll show you what it looks like and that'll pretty
1:40:46
much be the stream tonight
1:41:02
so I know on camera it looks great I know that
1:41:08
but this right here we've got one two three four five little Ripple lines and
1:41:14
our adhesive is not sticking on this bottom
1:41:19
corner so I'll probably talk to them and see if I can get some type of upgraded uh vinyl something where I can
1:41:26
actually uh heat shrink this corner um I think this is really good for a lot
1:41:32
of flat stuff but this corner here it just uh I didn't like that
1:41:39
corner um let's see who's all watching the stream you may cut you may attempt
1:41:44
to cut the vents out while you guys are watching we got six people watching we we'll do it let's go ahead and do it
1:41:53
so let's go up high it does look good it looks really
1:42:00
good um
1:42:07
but it wouldn't get my my green check if I had one I know it looks perfect but this
1:42:16
right here this Ripple and then this corner right
1:42:25
here now you could say just leave it because it's an adventure van it's going to get nicked up um that I I might do
1:42:31
that I might leave it okay so this part what we're going to
1:42:37
do is we're going to come in and start making our way around the
1:42:43
vent getting all these bubbles
1:42:49
out
1:42:55
that's one thing about Vans it is kind of an expensive learning process because you got to get it install it and then
1:43:02
you know figure out how things
1:43:11
work okay so that's pretty much as tight as it wants to go right there
1:43:18
um so for this one the trick is technically we want to get the vinyl up underneath the
1:43:24
plastic uh so let's just go ahead and take a stab at relieving the cut with
1:43:31
the razor blade and then seeing if we can actually get it to go where we where we want it to
1:43:44
go so for this one we're going to be using an xacto knife um this is is an Amazon exactor
1:43:53
knife yes let me just try to I'm so I'm pushing in here with really good Force I'm really trying to get this kind of
1:43:59
stretched in there as much as possible and then I'm going
1:44:06
to um let's see where's the
1:44:19
end
1:44:49
so I'm just kind of cutting this away way just to start to mess around with it
1:44:55
um so I cut a slit right on this edge of the vent and I'm just going to try to see if
1:45:01
I can take one of my poking tools and if I can get that to actually go up underneath the
1:45:11
uh okay so all right that's what I'm going to do so I'm going to go ahead and cut on this Ridge very carefully I don't
1:45:17
want to really cut into the plastic so this this uh the The Ridge of this
1:45:23
plastic not down into it but right on the top side
1:45:30
here let's zoom in
1:45:47
there okay hopefully this will help
1:46:14
I'm just laying the xacto blade on here I'm not putting hardly any press
1:46:49
pressure
1:47:03
so we're going to get the main piece of uh vinal off first and then we're going to come back after we push uh kind of
1:47:10
smush it in the crack and then we'll do a final pass to clean it up that's kind
1:47:15
of my
1:47:23
it's my plan of
1:47:46
attack okay I've already know that I need to go higher on this front
1:47:55
side probably should have guessed
1:48:14
that I don't mean to make this look easy and uh not mean to boast here but um
1:48:21
this this will be pretty challenging to do
1:48:27
here I messed that part up but this part is actually doing what
1:48:32
I want it to
1:48:49
do
1:49:56
all right so now I take this and this this uh gets it further
1:50:04
down into that crack and you want to blow this uh out
1:50:09
with compressed air
1:50:19
first cuz you don't want any dust uh moisture in here and after you wash your
1:50:25
van you need to blow this out with air because there's no way if you wash the
1:50:31
van and do this uh vinyl on the same day is it going to be dry so you need to uh do that compressed
1:50:40
here so you see this uh this right side went right under so that's really
1:50:49
nice
1:51:02
okay so we're going to try to continue going under with
1:51:09
this so that side doesn't want to work so that's when you're going to take the razor just cut it and then take
1:51:15
the very small part of the blade and that is going to get the vinyl out and
1:51:20
then you just come in and put it underneath the oh
1:51:27
man
1:51:34
zoomed there we
1:51:46
go I guess my my foot hit it so there's a plastic lip here so I'm
1:51:51
just underneath the plastic lip and I'm just going to
1:51:59
drag drag underneath that plastic lip be careful when you come to the edge
1:52:06
don't run off and Nick the vinyl that you just
1:52:11
did then now we can just take this and
1:52:18
uh push it up under
1:52:48
here
1:53:48
for
1:54:18
it
1:55:11
okay that's the vent and then this is zoom
1:55:18
out
1:55:25
all right so that's what we got going over here so I'll finish it up we'll go ahead and get off the camera and uh yeah
1:55:31
I'll post a photo when everything's
1:55:47
done all right guys that's it for tonight getting a little late on that one uh due some to some challenging
1:55:54
Corners so we'll uh we'll figure that out and we'll get that in the uh the next video if you guys have any
1:56:00
questions put those in the comments below make sure you guys are subscribed like this video check out van Builder
1:56:05

1:56:10
below um yeah that's going to be it for tonight's stream hope you enjoyed it and we'll see you guys in the next
