thank you [Music]
1:13
thank you all right guys we are live welcome back
1:18
to the shop we are in I wonder if I labeled the video wrong
1:26
see I think this is part five let's see what the broadcast says real quick
1:33
we're working on the floor
1:44
you know what it doesn't matter because we can fix it later
1:49
all right working on the uh floors you guys can tell we went ahead and took all the stuff that we were
1:56
um using to glue down the floor and if you're just joining us we're doing a live build the next uh couple weeks to
2:05
knock out this van we've got everything in the shop it's just now time to actually apply everything to the van so things that
2:11
need to be modified and painted they've came back from other vendors
2:16
um stuff such as the you know power components the rooftop AC we've been
2:23
working on all that and so everything's just really coming together and so this series is pretty much like a daily
2:28
series just to get you guys updated on what I'm doing with the van and also to
2:34
kind of uh you know document the whole process so if you guys have questions in the future you can go back and reference
2:40
the video or if you have questions right now you just go in the chat and ask me because we're live it's Saturday and uh
2:49
yeah it's nice quiet day at the shop one thing I'm going to mention really
2:54
quick before we get started if you guys are doing your own DIY build and you're looking for some help as far
3:01
as finding parts and you're looking for a way to quickly look at parts for a van from somebody
3:07
that has already bought a lot of Van Parts I want you guys to check out the DIY van build
3:13
cheat sheet so this is a cheat sheet that I made it's the past three years of
3:19
all my Amazon purchases stuff that I have in the shop all the tools products and stuff like that so it's already
3:24
vetted and it's essentially an Excel sheet so this is what it looks like
3:31
we have electrical we have Fasteners Hardware HVAC insulation kitchen Roofing
3:37
solar which we'll be doing in the following week we've got the last part
3:42
right here tools awesome section uh all the stuff you see me using in the shop is right here well
3:50
most of it this is a living document so it's always going to be growing over time you can see we got over 255 items at the
3:58
current moment so we're still adding to this working on this list but the nice
4:03
thing is if you go to the link in the description below put your name and email address and
4:09
it'll go right to your inbox it's completely free so this is completely free doesn't cost you anything it's a
4:15
nice way to just have a list I use it just to reference when I need to catch
4:20
up on parts that I've used and need to get some more I go right to my link it's very convenient yes a DIY van build
4:28
cheat sheet it's designed to save you time and money with this curated products list time because everything is
4:34
organized in the sheet and then money because you're not having to buy stuff it might work out and then buy more
4:41
so put your name and email address it'll go right to your inbox it's completely free and I really think it's going to
4:47
help you guys out on your DIY van build all right back to the Stream
4:56
so we are
5:02
back here in the back um and if you're just joining us and you haven't been watching the stream uh we're putting the flooring system in
5:09
typically you put the floor in and kind of build the van up from there but this fan has a pretty complex system in the
5:17
floor we have a flip and fold seat that's going to be mounted over here taking up a hole in the floor we have an
5:23
in-floor hidden shower pan which I'm actually kneeling in right now
5:30
then we have our uh Webasto airtop 40 or EVO airtop 40.
5:38
heater we have some electrical lines that need to actually go underneath the van
5:43
because where we want our control panel the factory wiring is not long enough to
5:49
make our run back to our power system so what we've done is we've set up a
5:55
secondary fuse panel right here so a sub panel if you will and the sub panel is
6:00
pretty much going to power all of our 12 volt components in the van that way if you need to ever work on it it's in one
6:07
location you can take off the back panel of the kitchen galley access it just sitting right outside
6:13
your van replace your fuses do all your main nuts in one location and then your main heavy duty fuses so
6:21
all your mega fuses you know 100 amps 80 amps stuff for the AC and then inverter
6:27
that's all going to be located in this back area so just two nice convenient areas to work on your system you don't
6:33
have to worry about anything else up here we're going to have a very sleek
6:38
interface we're going to use the renergy one system so you have one screen to monitor everything
6:44
we have our victron battery Monitor to Monitor our battery and then we have our Webasto uh smart
6:53
Bluetooth controller which allows us to wirelessly control
6:59
the temperature on our heater which is very convenient because if you've ever
7:05
if you're done camping or van life already you know how nice it is on a cold morning to just crank up that
7:10
heater get the van nice and warm and get out of bed so we want to make sure everything is
7:16
nice and convenient in this van but also easily accessible if it ever needs to be uh
7:23
if maintenance needs to come all right what we're doing today is
7:30
we paused on the second section because like I said earlier our wire is not long
7:36
enough for the heater access so we will have to come through the floor
7:41
here the good news is we only have two wires that we have to do that with so the first wire is the one I just
7:49
talked about the heater and then the second wire is going to be the power supply to the renegie hub so the Renegy
7:57
hub is what is going to control and manage all the
8:02
network cables that go into the smart the Energy Smart lithium batteries
8:09
each of those batteries link up and communicate to the hub
8:15
uh the DC toddc mppt charge controllers both of
8:20
those also connect to the hub once all that's plugged into the Hub and we have it powered right here
8:27
we actually have a network cable and we have Bluetooth connection that connects it to the renergy One controller
8:32
the ranger One controller um it's just a convenient way to
8:38
check on the stuff in your system it's expandable so if you want to add some other gadgets to it we're keeping it
8:43
nice and simple so the next customer they can they can do whatever they want to with it running Jelly actually has a
8:50
subscription to where you can do different Services say for example you set up a wi-fi system in your van
8:56
you can connect to it you can monitor your van remotely which is pretty nice
9:02
but uh that system is on the region one the
9:08
range E1 also has three switches that are Wireless if you saw the van Tour on Thomas's van
9:16
his van has about 16 Wireless controls pretty much every circuit in
9:23
his van is wirelessly controlled this fan is going to be uh more simpler in the wireless
9:30
connectivity because all we want to do is turn our lights on inside the van remotely
9:36
we want to turn on our water pump remotely and then we also want to maybe access
9:43
another item and you can change it up in the ring G1 app
9:48
but Reggie one is actually going to give you more information than you could ever use it's going to tell you all the cell
9:55
voltages and health of the battery so you can really get dive down into the
10:02
menus to make that simpler we're adding the addition of a victron battery shunt
10:08
which is just a simple one uh display that's going to tell you the
10:14
status of the batteries so if you don't want to dive into the ringy one system menus you can just
10:20
reference the victron it's very simple it's also Bluetooth as well so you can download the victron app monitor it on
10:26
your phone so you have renji on your phone you have the victron on your phone and then last but not least was the Webasto uh
10:34
Evo 40 and what's special about this is that it
10:39
is it is uh Auto elevation control so depending on
10:46
the your elevation and altitude that changes the air fuel ratio inside
10:52
this so if you go from say your Florida not that you need heat in Florida but
10:58
let's just say here in Florida it's going to operate at a certain air fuel ratio as opposed to if you're all
11:04
the way up in the mountains of Colorado it's going to be different so this will automatically adapt to that you don't have to worry about it it's
11:11
all behind the scenes but the Bluetooth capability allows it to
11:17
continue to be a wireless device so it's 2023 you know pretty much
11:24
everything is going to have an app and be Wireless so you know why not um oh we got a
11:31
chat right here let's see what we got hello from Canada enjoy watching the
11:38
floor install thank you so much and if you have any questions let me
11:45
know I'll briefly go over the floor system
11:51
that we're using uh so we are using this is our own system
11:57
so I don't want to say I developed this kind of method of the lattice structure
12:02
on the bottom and the kill mat a lot of people are using that however uh this is
12:09
kind of the the layers that I like to have in a van we're using the 50 mil kill mat on the
12:16
bottom that's the sound deaden the bottom of her van to kind of reduce that road noise as much as possible
12:23
we're using these quarter inch pieces of lattice stripping and what that does is
12:28
that combined with the kill mat and the adhesive using Loctite Marine PL Marine adhesive
12:37
that allows us to distribute the pressure or the load from the foam and the floor
12:44
so you don't have those soft spots in the floor so regardless of this being called rigid
12:49
foam board you can still compress it uh it is pretty nice it has a
12:55
compressive strength of 15 psi so that means on a one by one inch square this
13:02
thing can withstand 15 pounds of pressure uh which is pretty pretty good
13:08
but it's not perfect so you want to make sure you help this uh do the best job I
13:14
can and by adding these lattice strips in the floor you get a chance to make sure it's not
13:20
soft uh then that brings us to our plywood we
13:27
have half inch plywood and we're going to be coating that with a special adhesion promoter
13:34
designed for an epoxy application so technically you can just put epoxy on
13:40
the wood but it may get brittle and not adhere well so
13:46
to make sure that this is a excellent adhesion we have a product from Sherwin-Williams that is designed
13:54
I keep messing it up it's either Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore I'll find out later but
14:01
um that special bonding primer allows it to adhere properly it's specifically
14:08
designed for wood and epoxy application so we are going to coat the top of this floor when we get
14:14
done with that and that'll prep it for our lawn seal flooring which is our highly durable
14:21
flooring it's the same floor that's on airplanes the little coin floor
14:27
and it's going to bring in our theme of this van this kind of uh black dark gray
14:32
bamboo that type of vibe it's going to tie everything together
14:38
and then once that's finished we got our power system that's already assembled on the bench we're going to bring it in
14:44
we've already plumbed or drilled the holes for our water tank drain and vent
14:51
so we don't have to drill anything else in the floor which is nice if you have anything you need to drill
14:57
in the floor do it before you put the floor in because it's hard to really do a proper rust preventative if you had
15:03
the floor covering it we do need to build 80 20 cage for the
15:09
or the frame for the water tank but it's very simple it's you know four pieces of
15:15
80 20. a bunch of brackets and just it's easy uh and then we can bring in our kitchen
15:21
galleys our fridge and then we'll kind of go from the bottom to the top finishing off with our overhead cabinets
15:28
our Dometic RTX 2000 um yeah we'll be going pretty well here
15:35
what we're covering today in this live stream are the these floor bracing supports and
15:43
uh I don't know I just made that up what this does is
15:49
we're gonna we need this for our pull out tray I've seen a couple trays on YouTube and
15:57
uh my concern is that the trays are just bolted into the floor with maybe like
16:02
wood screws or something like that and they're not actually through bolted through the floor so if you can imagine
16:09
say you have a Dometic uh fridge
16:14
like a you know a cooler style and you got a bunch of climbing gear or a mountain bike or something like that that's a lot of weight so that full
16:22
extension drawer slide that goes out to your van that looks really cool you need to make sure that the frame of
16:28
it is through bolted through your van because there's a lot of stress put on whatever you're using to mount it
16:36
um and so what we're doing is we're using uh six grade eight bolts we're
16:41
doing two in the back this is the high leverage point so this is where you know if somebody sat on it or whatever if you
16:48
did not do this it could rip out of the floor and then we got two in the front and that's really just to keep it from you
16:54
know coming uh lifting up I believe with the six grade eight bolts
17:01
we won't have to do anything else the frame from the Flatline vanco pull out tray is very strong so we should be good
17:08
but if we do we can just supplement with some screws into the the floor which is okay
17:14
but you need to have some type of brace like this so what we're doing today is we are
17:19
installing one two here uh we're going to be cutting this foam
17:26
and we're going to be installing two pieces of one inch aluminum that's going to allow us to make sure
17:32
the seam right here is Flawless and that over time it doesn't shift and then you have that little bubble in the floor
17:40
some people don't care about that but I don't I don't want a bubble on the floor
17:47
um I want it to be nice and clean for the life of the van
17:53
so we're going to be doing that to begin with this part over here
17:58
we have uh we have our bowls there's a 3 8 3 8 inch bolts here
18:11
and what I've done is I've pre-drilled this
18:17
so that I can put it on top so this is not actually where it's going to sit I'm just doing this so that I can
18:24
take my uh razor blade here and I can cut the foam
18:33
so I'm going to use this as a guide and then I'll kind of show you guys what what I'm cutting out
18:47
now it is true that you could have done I could have done this before I glued the foam in
18:53
but it's easier to do it like this because I have this
18:58
metal piece as a guide and then the foam is not going to move at all I
19:04
mean it's it's in there forever
19:10
but what I'm going to do here is I need to make sure that I'm gonna put this in
19:15
and then on the back side here is where I'm gonna have my little cut out to do my wire run
19:24
and that way I can just go across here and I can pull these wires so I had this 12 volt
19:30
power supply for the renergy Hub as well as this two wire
19:37
for the obasto heater so that's going to go probably just going to go right behind
19:44
there so I'll just cut out like a triangle piece almost and then that way
19:49
I can just lay it in here and then I'll just put masking tape over
19:54
it so it doesn't pop out and then the floor will just go on top of that and then these will be protected
20:03
so let's go ahead and keep cutting out our foam
20:17
and I will take a brush because I am touching I am cutting into the
20:23
metal of the van not really meaning to it's just I need to make sure I'm cutting all the
20:29
way through and I can already feel myself hitting it so just like we've done in the past we've
20:36
got a little paintbrush and our Krylon Fusion paint and we're just going to we'll clean it
20:43
with some denatured alcohol and we'll go ahead and do our
20:48
representative even though it's inside the van
20:53
and it's probably not going to be a big deal always do Rust preventative because you're never
20:59
you're never going back to it
21:04
so now that we scored that pretty well we're going to take these bolts out
21:22
so there it is it's just a piece of one inch Square tube Square tube aluminum
21:27
and it's from Lowe's it's a thin wall but it's it's very strong somebody was asking about the wall thickness
21:35
and it's this is uh I think a lot of stuff I do in the band
21:41
is a little Overkill anyway but I just I want to make sure that
21:47
uh it's it's how I believe it it should be done
22:15
again don't worry that you're cutting in to the damn floor
22:20
it's okay we're going to do our rust preventative but we want to make sure we have a nice clean cut for this
22:26
so that the piece of aluminum just slips right in
22:38
all right so you may need a chisel and that's just
22:44
to break up the foam
22:52
so if you take your time you're gonna have a nice super clean Edge
22:58
eventually I would get another camera so I can have you guys in here in the van with me but
23:05
you guys can see pretty good on this camera
23:18
plus this gives you a chance to see how well the Marine adhesive is is holding and it
23:25
looks it's doing a really good job it's completely bonded it's completely bonded to the uh
23:32
the foam board
23:46
so just using the Chisel this allows you to get that adhesive that you just used off
23:52
of the van
23:57
and I do like how it's hard to get off because it just shows me that
24:03
that Marine adhesive is an excellent product to use for this application
24:46
and it hasn't been a full 24 hours so the inside of that adhesive is not fully cured I want to put some gloves on
24:55
get that stuff off my hands and let's see if I can bring you guys in
25:00
a little closer
25:12
all right that's as close as you can get
25:33
see there we go should be pretty good
25:55
yeah it says I'm look at this adhesive we've got the outside's fully cured but we put a
26:01
lot on here the inside's not yet but that's okay
26:06
because again like I said it has not been 24 hours and I need a rag so I do not
26:12
get this everywhere
26:39
foreign
27:02
[Music] yeah I'm glad I'm doing this now this adhesive is actually extremely good
27:50
foreign
29:06
foreign
29:19
Heights even so that's why the Chisel is important to scrape off
29:24
any of this uh material
29:30
all right so we got everything done so we're going to do a little test fit here
29:37
fit like a glove
29:55
it's got a little bit more to shave off on the side
30:09
all right
30:23
foreign
31:40
foreign
31:51
that is a that is a excellent fit that's
31:56
the fits so good I almost don't even want to use adhesive on it
32:02
so I think I'm gonna wait until I get the floor modified so we still need to cut
32:09
out this Edge right here on the floor so we're just going to call this one
32:16
done and we can move on to the other one
32:22
should just move over a little bit
32:30
I know people hate it when you when they use the wall power tools as a hammer but
32:37
I it's just that's what I do
32:46
all right
32:51
actually for this one I might get a real Hammer I need to move that over just a
32:56
tad
33:18
oh second mute the mic real quick
34:42
okay I'm back that was pretty loud
34:49
of course this one 's gonna be the funny one so we'll just see if we can
34:57
get down there
35:06
all right let me get some more tools
35:11
and again if you guys are watching just uh if you have any questions feel free to
35:16
put those in the chat
35:37
foreign
35:49
we got that one through the floor we'll just have to chase the uh that hole one more time before we
35:56
finalize this um
36:09
all right so we got one done we're gonna go to the next one but we are going to take this out and use this one as a
36:15
reference
36:21
for our whole spacing
36:44
okay
36:58
it's such a tight fit I'm telling you guys I don't need to use
37:05
glue this is how precise that cut was
37:12
if I don't say so myself all right
37:19
okay that's good
37:27
interestingly
37:38
hmm
37:51
yeah interestingly these holes are precise as I say I am these are not
38:00
exact I can't tell if it's the uh
38:08
foam or
38:13
angle at which I drilled them
38:22
probably right okay we need to drill the foam out
38:34
I've got the drill over here in the drill press
38:46
we need a drill
39:12
okay this is where the hole is supposed to be
39:33
let's see if that worked [Music]
39:40
foreign
40:26
meet you guys one second
40:50
okay we're back foreign
41:01
so we had to do a little bit of convincing on that one so let's put the bolt back in
41:09
all right that's where we want it right there we're gonna take our permanent marker
41:15
Trace that out
41:23
wherever the permanent marker goes I tell you I buy a whole bottle of 10
41:29
or a whole case of tin ten markers and they all disappear
41:37
there's at least 30 permanent markers in this shop just all over the place
41:48
the only problem with having to do what I just did is now
41:54
I've got a vacuum clean up all these filings they're
42:00
aluminum it's not the end of the world I just don't like it like I'm all over
42:06
the place
42:12
so here is this one so when we get done we'll be able to
42:19
get this brace and put it in and then all we have is
42:24
just the two here
42:32
so the goal of this live stream is to finish and glue in all of the these aluminum
42:39
pieces because I can't I can't put the floor down until
42:45
all the aluminums in here because I need it to when I sandwich the floor down
42:51
I want that level to be just uh as flat as possible that's the whole
42:58
the whole goal all right I should have taken those bolts out
43:07
you need to use them as a reference
43:14
there we go the one thing I noticed when I was cutting this out earlier just a second
43:20
ago is that the I tend to turn in with my knife so
43:27
that's why the fit was so tight be very careful when you're doing this
43:32
with a a blade like this
43:50
these blades I use are olfa it's a Japanese
43:56
company is still blade
44:02
[Music] the best ones I've ever found and surprisingly
44:07
you can bite at Lowe's it's olfa
44:21
okay we got the back side
44:30
front side
44:52
that feels pretty good
45:42
let me put this glove back on
45:48
that's a trick right there blow some air into it and it will
45:54
you turn the ends up back inside out and reuse it
47:00
foreign
48:02
yeah the fact I'm having to scrape it with a chisel off the metal ribs is really good
48:13
I used to use silicone when I changed over to the Marine adhesive
48:20
because of humble Road if you watch his channel and I didn't think it'd be that
48:26
effective on metal you think more like fiberglass and stuff like that
48:34
it's really good
48:45
I mean this is not even fully cured and it's already I have to scrape it off
48:53
[Music]
49:00
we are 99 cleaned off the reason you want to clean so well is
49:06
uh I guess that's the only downside of being so precise is that
49:15
if you don't give it room to foreign
49:25
you get so precise you actually create a problem because you're you don't have any leeway
49:32
any way to like wiggle it in there so what I'm doing right now is I'm taking a little more of aggressive chunk out the
49:39
side because uh you guys saw earlier that was just the fit was so good that it was
49:45
actually hard to work with
49:57
come on I would say next time I
50:03
I may do this I'll make sure that I do not put the
50:09
adhesive under the places where I know I'm going to be cutting the foam out
50:15
I knew I was going to be doing this but just Envision it being much faster
50:28
oh yeah see yeah so that that's uh that goes out of there really fast
50:45
yep just like that excellent
51:07
I'm holding the lift I mean my your lift is uh
51:12
that's not no problem this one over here
51:29
that was nice clean flush this one over here we've got a little bit of a
51:34
little bit of a height probably has to do with the um
51:42
amount of weight I put in here in the middle I mean it's a sixteenth of an inch it's nothing crazy but you know
51:53
okay so I'm gonna mute the uh the feed really
51:58
quick because I need to uh drill
52:39
okay I'm back and you may be wondering why am I taking
52:46
a piece that was perfect back here and kind of wallowing it out um it's okay because remember this is going
52:52
to have a piece of plywood on it and then it's going to have a piece of you know the metal
52:58
and a washer so this is just more of a just think of it as a spacer
53:08
but I only have to make two of these so what I'll do is I'll probably drill this out with a bigger uh size
53:16
so this will be this will maintain the same and then this size will actually be a bigger so
53:21
the drill bit I'll use will be um actually I'll probably just use this one and then just
53:27
kind of wall it out like I did the other ones it looks like
53:34
maybe I've got a yeah a little more adhesive over here I can take off
53:40
get that as flat as possible and I do need to get probably a wider
53:48
chisel we're gonna do this one more time uh
54:00
on on this side we won't have to do it for this back side because obviously we don't have any adhesive on there
54:15
okay
54:25
Perfect all right so we're gonna do is get the vacuum
54:34
clean up our mess get a new piece of aluminum bar
54:39
cut and we'll be we'll be right back
55:48
foreign stay with me guys I'll be muted just for a second I'm going to vacuum this up and
55:53
then I'll be back
57:58
all right if you guys a little bit of sound here I'm going to
58:05
uh prep the aluminum tubing for the miter saw and then I'll be back in the van
58:19
all right we're going to drill press setup now we just need to take this piece
58:25
we're going to replicate it over here
58:32
going to the other side of the shop it's very hot over here
58:42
all right
58:47
so I will I will meet you guys in just a moment
59:03
so I'm using OBS for the stream and they have a bunch of options uh
59:11
they had an like a sound limiter if everybody knows
59:16
how to do that you can put that in the chat all right I'm going to mute here for a second cut
59:22
this piece I'll be right back
1:00:13
foreign
1:00:42
okay that's done just going to hop on over to the drill press and then I'll be back in just a minute
1:05:41
foreign
1:05:46
we're back we're back we're back
1:06:32
foreign
1:07:16
[Music]
1:07:42
foreign
1:08:14
we're going to clean up these two holes we'll be done with this and go ahead and move on to the next part
1:08:20
we will have to cut some more pieces so we'll be muted again but
1:08:28
in a minute
1:08:49
okay I'm gonna meet you guys just for a second I'm gonna clean out these holes I'll be right back
1:09:44
okay back so this next section what we need to do
1:09:50
is uh
1:09:55
let's see I need to get a board so I can lay down
1:10:03
the board uh I'm just gonna meet you guys I'm just gonna blow this little bit of dust out
1:10:34
all right let's see if we can find a piece of wood that's going to allow us to kneel down on the foam
1:10:45
if I have one this size that I need
1:10:55
this might be enough
1:11:03
I'm just going to use the other board right here but uh I got adhesive all over it so
1:11:10
we can do that oh this works all right let's get a tape measure and let's measure the width of this
1:11:18
foreign
1:11:34
we're working with four foot it's a four or six just I think six foot
1:11:39
stick yeah six foot six
1:11:50
always use a knee pad
1:11:55
all right we need so we got 53 but we don't need
1:12:01
actually 53 because this is only being supported
1:12:07
at the um I just want to do it at the metal
1:12:14
supports of the van so we're going to cut two pieces and
1:12:20
they're going to be
1:12:33
going to be uh 50 inches we're gonna do 49
1:12:40
I'm gonna do 49 and a half because I want to keep it away from our
1:12:45
wires on the right side so I don't want any chance of these shifting and
1:12:50
touching that so we're going to keep it 49 and a half so two pieces 49 and a half
1:12:58
I'm gonna cut those and then I will be right back
1:13:36
[Applause]
1:13:41
all right yep I forgot to turn the uh I think on
1:13:48
mute sorry I'll be right back
1:15:36
okay coming back I found my markers there's like three of
1:15:43
them by the miter saw all right so this right here
1:15:50
is the concept that or the that's what humble Road uses in his fans
1:15:57
or some of them for these seams uh he uses it primarily for support
1:16:05
um which it already does provide support that's the whole point but for me I want to make sure that this lip transition is
1:16:13
it doesn't move on us and create that
1:16:20
effect where
1:16:26
we had the I call it a bubble in the floor so I'm going to Mark where we want these
1:16:32
things to end foreign
1:16:40
and then we're going to take one away and the second one right here
1:16:47
this is the one that we're going to line up to our Edge
1:16:54
and then we're going to take a marker
1:17:04
and I'm going to use a different method to cut this out
1:17:10
because I want a little bit of speed and you guys can
1:17:16
you might be able to tell what I'm going to use so I'm going to use this
1:17:23
and I'm going to mute this and I'll be right back
1:19:13
so that was much faster as you guys can see uh uh yep it's still a frame
1:19:24
I'm just going to take this and get the rest of it out
1:19:43
okay
1:19:48
it's so it's just again so good to know how well this adhesive is working
1:19:57
not that I should be surprised but
1:20:05
this stuff's working great
1:20:16
foreign yeah we're at this end where it got a chance to really cure
1:20:22
it's amazing so I didn't glue it here thankfully
1:20:34
I should say I stopped gluing right up to that edge
1:20:48
so guys this is a cheat sheet in itself you see what not to do
1:20:59
all right now we just got to take the Chisel I'm gonna see if I get a big I got a bigger chisel
1:21:05
make this a little bit faster
1:21:25
all right
1:21:34
foreign thing about tools is uh this one right
1:21:42
here is was my grandfather's chisel well so
1:21:49
I don't know it's it was hard it'd be hard to find something like that at Lowe's
1:21:54
nice wide chisel still sharp as ever
1:22:34
thank you
1:22:48
foreign
1:23:02
coming from the back side like that and just snip it off on that side
1:23:22
okay make sure you guys can still see what's happening
1:23:29
move the camera back just a little bit
1:23:37
yeah just be careful with the chisels
1:23:51
you're never supposed to Chisel towards you
1:24:01
yeah it's just so sharp I went right through the top part of this lattice
1:24:08
so we'll just use a little bit extra glue on this seam right here
1:24:17
[Music]
1:24:36
Perfect all right now billion's always exciting because you're
1:24:43
usually always building towards a goal and even simple ones like this where I'm
1:24:48
just trying to put a piece of aluminum in can be fun because once you get it all prepped nicely
1:24:53
go ahead and give one of our pieces a try
1:24:58
let's see look at that Perfection excellent
1:25:04
okay we got a little bit of adjustability there to make sure we get it right where we want it
1:25:14
all right so that one's going to go here and then this next one is going to go
1:25:21
obviously directly behind it and so we're actually going to take uh
1:25:28
for the metal metal is a little bit different than the foam um but Humber Road did is he took a flap
1:25:35
wheel so I've got one and we're going to just we're going to
1:25:40
get to the metal part of this but the nice thing is we're going to make sure that we put
1:25:48
enough adhesive on it so it covers it and then we don't have a
1:25:53
rust problem
1:25:59
so I'm just going to mark I'm marking where this rear piece is going
1:26:10
that way we know how far to grind to
1:26:18
really sanding it's not grinding it's not that aggressive
1:26:25
all right and we're just going to label this one and two
1:26:31
not that it matters but
1:26:38
okay so that's our two um
1:26:47
I'm going to spend just a little a couple more minutes just getting this adhesive off a little bit more
1:26:56
take some denatured alcohol and clean this up really well before we actually uh
1:27:02
these are flap wheel on this because I don't want the uh
1:27:11
it's one of those adhesive gumming up flap well
1:27:27
questions
1:27:53
another good news is we don't have to do the laminated I mean the PVC strip
1:28:00
obviously because they don't need to be ground down the metal ones are the only ones so
1:28:07
that's it so let's uh mute you guys one more time get the vacuum cleaner on I'm going to
1:28:14
clean this up and get ready for next step
1:29:24
foreign all right one thing I didn't mention is
1:29:31
not only do we want to clean the uh
1:29:39
van but we want to make sure you clean the aluminum
1:29:45
because it's got all kinds of maybe oils or grease
1:29:52
um it doesn't look like it but you'll see here in a second we got a white
1:30:16
yeah that adhesive does not
1:30:23
there's no man if you use your alcohol it's no match for that uh
1:30:31
stuff so our flapper is going to get a little gummy but that's okay
1:30:36
um so let's get a cleaner side here so I can show you
1:30:41
what we're doing with the that's okay let's use this side
1:30:54
so we have a piece right here it looks shiny but we're just going to take it
1:31:02
and you guys can see
1:31:13
might as well clean all of it we don't know what side we're putting down even though we numbered it
1:31:20
so that one's clean
1:31:53
there you guys can see how dirty they are
1:31:58
okay so those are all cleaned let's get our drill with the flap wheel attachment
1:32:03
make sure I can find it that'll be our next step
1:32:32
using a craftsman three inch flap wheel
1:32:56
okay that's what we're using
1:33:03
I'm gonna mute you guys and do this real quick be right back
1:38:20
foreign back all right now we're just going to clean
1:38:26
it up that was an easy process
1:38:43
we've got all these ribs here which are nice and shiny denatured alcohol cleaning them off
1:38:51
and go back on the dry part just make sure you don't have any residue
1:39:04
okay everything looks great
1:39:11
we're gonna go and we need to get uh the other
1:39:17
this back piece is finalized so I think we can actually
1:39:24
put it in clean everything up take a quick inventory on make sure uh
1:39:31
our electrical cables are where we want them to be and we don't need to
1:39:36
change their position then we'll be ready to actually glue down the back the back piece
1:39:49
exciting at that third piece in because this these things were
1:39:58
not challenging but it's a it was an item on the list that I need to get knocked out so you can see this is what it'll look
1:40:06
like the nice part is uh we'll Bond everything together
1:40:12
and then what what we'll do is this uh the wood board so just to show you an example
1:40:18
so say this is the edge of the plywood it's going to come right
1:40:24
here just like that
1:40:32
come just like that and then the next Piece Will
1:40:38
go right up against this and then what that what that'll do is we're gonna be able to countersink
1:40:44
these uh sheet metal screws into this so there's they have they have a flat head
1:40:49
sheet metal screw like a pan head I guess they call it a panhead and we'll be put those into here and
1:40:56
that way this will be the same level as this and then they'll be no seam
1:41:02
transition and then over time the rest of the bork and flex here and here but this this Ridge is locked in
1:41:08
together and so it won't create that that
1:41:14
ugly seam that you see over time with some other vans uh so that is
1:41:21
what we're doing there so now what we're going to do is I'm
1:41:26
going to get the other piece of foam out we're going to cut it
1:41:31
get it put into place and then keep on going
1:41:43
so that piece isn't there see what else here
1:41:54
let's see who is on the live stream
1:42:05
I called I have two part fours no one two three four okay
1:42:15
there you go
1:42:20
all right let me back this up and I'm going to wrap this up just so I can take a quick break
1:42:27
and don't worry you guys will not miss out on here let me back up
1:42:51
all right here give me some space
1:42:58
okay so we have let me stop my time lapse
1:43:09
we'll wrap up here and then here yeah I need some food I need to grab
1:43:15
some lunch for lunch what time is it
1:43:20
um all right let me let's wrap up so we have our aluminum pieces that you
1:43:27
guys saw we have two in the back
1:43:32
to counteract the tray so it can be bolted down and so it won't smush the uh
1:43:41
the foam that's the whole point of those is make sure we can really torque down on those bolts get that really
1:43:48
a strong connection and not smush or compress the foam we've got our two pieces right here
1:43:56
I mean let me mute this we've got our two pieces over here
1:44:03
and then we're going to have another piece right here so what I'll do is I'm going to take a
1:44:08
break grab something to eat and then when I come back I'll have cut this piece out
1:44:15
I'll have cut this piece out here for this transition piece because I need to make sure
1:44:23
I need to see if my wires can move back because my problem is the holes in the
1:44:30
back needed to be in a location where it's not really being supported by the uh the metal here
1:44:37
so it's not the best scenario what I also may do
1:44:42
is I may get I may go to the store and get a sleeve
1:44:47
so they make these Chrome sleeves that I can actually buy and then see if we've got a 3 8 inch
1:44:54
version and I'll put that sleeve in here instead of doing what we did over here so if they have a one inch by 3 8 sleeve
1:45:01
I'll just cut the foam out and I'll put the sleeve done in here that we won't have to mess with anything
1:45:07
so and if they don't have the sleeve I'm going to get just washers and I'll
1:45:12
just make washers and I'll have to cut this piece that we just did over here
1:45:19
then we'll uh we'll have the foam in everything will be nice and level we'll clean everything up we'll do one last
1:45:25
double check on our wiring to make sure there's not any more wire runs that we need to do that we can't exit access
1:45:30
after this and then we'll go in and we'll glue our uh
1:45:37
foam in and then that way all the foam will be glued in and then tomorrow what we'll do is we'll
1:45:44
take the plywood finish the cuts that we have to do on the corner
1:45:50
um the cut has to give it gives more relief to the
1:45:56
obasto heater I cut the board a little a little too close so there's not enough room wiggle room
1:46:03
and then after so tomorrow when all that stuff dries I think timeline wise
1:46:09
probably Monday is when we'll put the lawn still flooring in uh because it has to happen Monday
1:46:15
because Tuesday we have our DIY van one-inch adapter spacer
1:46:22
so this right here this is for the the RTX 2000 Dometic RTX 2000 AC unit
1:46:31
so on a Ford Transit if you have the adventure wagon ceiling I calculated that you need
1:46:38
an inch and a half worth of spacers and uh
1:46:44
the spacer the the hard spacers so not the soft foam the hard spacer is one inch so you need two and a half inches
1:46:51
worth of spacing if you have the adventure wagon for the
1:46:56
uh the vent to be flush so that's my calculation but we'll actually see you
1:47:02
know what it's going to be on Tuesday but that's got to get in Tuesday so that we can
1:47:08
get the rest of the stuff in here all right that's the plan so hope to see
1:47:15
you guys in the next live stream make sure you guys uh make sure you bring your questions if
1:47:21
you guys have any uh check out the DIY van build sheet cheat sheet the link is in the description below make sure you
1:47:28
guys are subscribed to the channel so you guys can follow up anytime we have a new video coming out uh like this video
1:47:34
If you enjoyed it and then also share to anyone who you think may need it help on the floor you know installing the floor
1:47:40
by themselves as you can see this is pretty much uh
1:47:45
I call this professional DIY how about that it's stuff that you guys can buy and do at home
1:47:50
um and achieve a professional result so once again hope that helped
1:47:56
and I will see you guys in the next live stream
