1:01
all right hey everyone welcome to the live stream tonight it's a late night
1:08
it's 11 p.m Eastern Standard Time if you guys are watching this live and uh
1:13
it's not the weekend but it is Thursday and we are finally finishing up this floor so
1:20
take a little bit longer expected because I kind of uh I blended in doing
1:25
the electrical when I put the floor in because I needed to conceal it underneath the floor
1:32
um due to the way that we needed to run everything and because there's some
1:38
components such as the wilbasto heater it had a fixed link sheath and I didn't
1:45
want to change that so I moved it up to the middle of the van and then Along Came all the other wires we got our
1:51
middle piece in first uh earlier today we put in the second piece and tonight we're going to finish
1:57
up doing the third piece so that we'll let this sit up overnight and then
2:02
tomorrow we're going to clean everything up sand it down not the whole thing but just the the
2:08
edges I get a nice clean transition we're going to talk about how to do that in
2:14
just a second make clean Transitions and then everything will be prepped tomorrow
2:20
for the lawn sill now I'm not sure if I'm going to do it tomorrow I get some plans uh tomorrow afternoon so
2:28
I'll probably wait till I have a dedicated uh day to do that so I can mix up the epoxy take my time Trace out the
2:35
the floor um so we might do that so not sure what's
2:41
going to happen tomorrow but I know tonight we're putting in this third panel and if you guys have been following
2:47
along with the flooring install uh it's been a fun Journey this is a great binge
2:53
watching videos because we've got I think there's 11 videos now on this floor
2:59
it's not too crazy but I'm hoping that it's going to help you as a diy-er
3:06
see what I've done if you want to improve on some things you're completely welcome to but um
3:12
I kind of keep going back to about the floor being technical because of our in-floor shower pan the flip and fold seat and this tray and those have been
3:20
challenges but I think the biggest one was trying to conceal all the wires in the middle of the floor before
3:26
I put this in because once it goes in it's in Forever it's not coming back out
3:31
let's go ahead and move on to the next part so the back of the van
3:37
has my example of how I'd like to do my floor seams going for because it's a
3:43
bolted seam now I picked up this idea from Humble road if you guys watched his channel on YouTube and
3:49
that is the way to get a nice clean transition because what happens is over time if you just have it glued down
3:57
the boards can kind of move and flex with the van it's not necessarily a bad thing you
4:03
know you don't want things to crack but as they Flex there's a little hump over time that gets created by that the lawn
4:10
seal or your flooring being flexed so my plan is to have those two pieces
4:16
of one inch aluminum that's embedded in the floor that's going to allow it so that it has
4:23
a nice flush surface to mount to
4:28
and then it also has a sheet metal screw in it that that holds it down so not only do you have the adhesive that is
4:34
pretty much doing all the work the screw is that extra bit of security
4:39
to get to take this side and this side and bring them true to each other
4:45
and then that seam just pretty much vanishes we're going to go A step above and right
4:52
here I just uh this is an example so right here what we have is
5:00
the first thing you want to do is you want to countersink your hole
5:06
let me see if I can get this lighting fixed for you
5:11
I guess you guys want to do this give me one second I will get this uh
5:19
there we go we'll just do this temporary so here is your counters uh
5:25
hold this countersink the countersink bit and then you just want to do it to the
5:31
diameter of the head of the screw just like that
5:36
and so the easy way to do it is just drill down until you have it kind of matches the head of the bolt
5:43
just like that and then when you get there you're pretty much 99 there so once you do it you want to pre-drill
5:50
your hole out so that when the screw goes down in there and it goes to grab the aluminum
5:58
that you're not fighting against the wood you're only going into the metal
6:04
now what I've done is I change this so I went from this
6:10
set up with a self-tapping screw like that
6:16
to a different setup because the fine threads on this
6:23
monitor my lighting here the fine the fine threads on here were
6:29
stripping out so what I did
6:34
is I went and got these right here number 10 inch and a quarter
6:40
so I had two problems they were stripping out and you see the bottom head
6:46
the bottom head was touching the bottom that's pretty obvious but the reason was
6:52
I got too precise and if this went too far down in the hole even like a couple
6:57
millimeters it was going to touch and it's like barely touching
7:04
so I got these screws but there's a difference to these screws
7:13
I just realized I need to find the bag let's see here
7:20
all right there we go I can be ready for when I'm gonna do this okay this is the new screw
7:27
right there so it doesn't have a self tapping end that's okay still designed for Sheet Metal and it
7:34
still has that uh this that tapered head shape
7:40
so we use this screw now to go in our hole and what's going to happen is look it
7:48
it's not going to bottom out and so we're going to keep that one
7:54
but we do have to take a very tiny drill bit so we're using a
8:01
5 64 drill bit it's a little skinny guy right there
8:07
but this drill bit is enough to begin
8:13
cutting our threads in the tip and then because of our aluminum
8:19
is not a very thick piece of the walls are not very thick
8:26
and they're soft this is able to do the job and then create its own threads and since the
8:33
threads are much coarser
8:38
right there since the threads are coarser it's going to grab into that uh
8:44
thinner thinner aluminum better so in hindsight you can do two things
8:49
you can get thicker one inch thicker wall aluminum tubing
8:55
and go with a finer thread or stick with this which you can buy at Lowe's and get a coarser thread which is
9:03
my recommendation so this is what it looks like to create that transition
9:10
and this is just on the sample piece but you can see it's nice and flush and then what we're going to do is we're
9:15
going to we're going to finish it off the only way Nick works here which is
9:21
overdoing it we're going to take some JB Weld five minute epoxy this is the
9:29
one be careful when you buy this the wood is usually marked out and it doesn't say wood there's only one of
9:36
these packs and I think it's the red and it says wood but we're going to take this
9:42
and we're going to put it over this hole we're going to take a metal scraper and
9:48
we're just going to oh sorry we're gonna wipe across it and then let that dry and then we'll
9:54
sand it down so this is like this is super flush because what's going to happen is when we go to do the lawn seal we're going to
10:00
put a 100 pound roller rolling on this and I don't want this to dimple in the epoxy
10:06
I want it to be perfect okay so that's what we're going to do
10:11
we can we can do this anytime I might I probably will do this later but that's
10:17
just my plan so hopefully this little explanation video will help you
10:24
um if you want to plan to do that and last this is uh going to be it says adhered
10:31
to the floor of the van with Loctite PL Marine Fast cure
10:38
so this is pretty much the only thing that you can use to bond
10:43
the metal of the van to the aluminum
10:49
uh the metal part of the van to the foam and then the foam
10:55
to the metal and then metal to the wood it
11:00
it's used for all those applications and this thing is this stuff is impressive
11:06
it's really really really good almost beyond my expectations because if
11:12
I showed you an example here
11:21
the way that this adheres to the foam
11:27
is is really good it almost does like a little bit of a like a melting in the foam you see that
11:34
so this this bond is very see that
11:42
very strong okay back to the video
11:49
let's get the lighting back to where we want it no no no
11:57
there you go okay
12:05
let's see here
12:15
all right looks pretty good
12:21
all right probably won't have anybody on for the live stream tonight but if you guys are on there definitely say hi
12:27
while I'm working or maybe you guys will see this the next day our next step is to go over a couple
12:33
things that we did so over here on the left we modified the floor and we took out we
12:41
cut this out of the wood right here we did that so that our adventure wagon
12:50
um interior trim pieces can fit
12:55
so I'm gonna pick up one really quick and just show you one side so you know what we're talking about
13:01
but this chunk is taken out so that this piece can slide down in
13:10
behind uh down past the wood panel
13:16
now we haven't cut out the foam but I'm gonna do that after the fact
13:22
of course actually on this piece here see here
13:35
yeah we'll cut that out after the fact
13:45
because I don't want to uh cut out too much I'm going to cut it with the uh
13:52
cut it with a razor so next over here on the right hand side
13:57
we've got another piece and so this piece was also cut out this is going to allow us access to our
14:04
fitting for our vent port on the water tank as well as our drain valve port on the
14:15
the water tank so we need to remove that piece of wood and then after we glue this in we'll
14:21
come back and cut this out we'll do it later and then we'll vacuum it out
14:28
um I just I want the wood piece to be my template I don't want to cut that out and just assume that's
14:33
that's where I traced it even though it's extremely close okay so next
14:39
we have these two pieces so this these are three bolts they go
14:45
through the floor of the van and these bolts right here
14:52
they have these uh Chrome spacers so these spacers go on bolts like this
15:00
and they allow it to be compressed without smushing the foam and the floor and then what I've done up here up top
15:06
is they don't make a spacer thinner than a quarter of an inch
15:12
so we have three washers that are making up that difference and then when everything is compressed
15:18
it's going to be perfectly flush with the floor and with these two are designed to do is
15:27
this will go in the Flatline vanco pull out tray these keep it from going front to back
15:34
that's their job the four behind there job is to make sure that when the full
15:42
extension drawer slides out that the whole thing doesn't pull out of the van and these are all grade eight bolts
15:50
and they are through the van chassis so extremely strong
15:56
and it's going to be the strongest way to install this pull out tray
16:03
so we're not bolting it into the floor we're bolt that into the van itself so
16:09
extremely strong those back there if you guys haven't watched the past streams they have two
16:16
pieces of aluminum they're about this wide so it expands across all the
16:23
corrugations in the van and it's just extremely strong uh connection
16:31
we just got these little pieces of tape here they'll live there forever but these little pieces of tape
16:37
their design so that this doesn't get shifted when I put the
16:42
floor down I want it to be exactly where it right where it is
16:48
next we are going to
16:53
next is uh pretty much gluing so I've already taken the the belief blower
16:59
blowed everything off of here it's nice and clean
17:05
my automatic gun from Milwaukee broke
17:11
during the last live stream and
17:18
so if you guys know of this uh this gun doing what it did here
17:23
let me know because I'm pretty good at operating tools
17:29
and for some reason it worked for a while and then somehow it gets it catches on the inside somehow
17:37
I don't know if it's because of these tubes I've never had a problem with any other tube but
17:44
I feel like maybe it's the the viscosity the thickness of this stuff is
17:50
not good for that gun so we are back to our
17:56
tried and true hand gun
18:03
uh or caulk caulk gun
18:09
all right so next we are going to
18:21
uh we'll start I'm gonna go ahead and get this out
18:26
now if you guys watch the past the other live streams we we mentioned that
18:32
we want very thin beads when we when we put this down
18:39
uh so we're just going to do a very thin bead on this back lip here
18:47
just where this seam transition is so it is very thin
19:13
and then we just need to put some on our aluminum that's going to go up underneath the
19:19
screws and so now we're just going to go back and forth
19:25
doing our thin beads and we want the thinness so that we
19:31
don't have any raised areas in the floor because the raised areas mixed with air
19:39
space can possibly make a soft spot and then also make noise we don't want that
19:46
you want these floors that we make and installed to be silent
20:07
and I was using the Milwaukee caulk gun and that it was doing a good job
20:15
but I also couldn't get it to make a fine bead like this
20:20
for some reason it kept uh I didn't like doing this
20:27
I turned the speed down it still didn't change it
20:34
that's okay we're on we're using the old school method still
20:39
our original method
20:51
now sometimes there's these uh like these blobs that come out and you'll need to take a scraper and get them up
20:58
uh they're they're like a dried piece inside the tube so again I don't know if that's like
21:04
Lowe's quality yeah I mean these have been on the Shelf too long or something like that
21:10
um you can kind of see I got even
21:18
it's even coming out and then all of a sudden it changes
21:43
yeah so very very thin caulking lines
21:49
so thin as you can see it's almost not connecting to itself when it comes out
21:58
that's what we're looking for the caulk
22:03
gun that we had or when we caulked the bottom
22:08
that needed to be thick because it was helping with the leveling of the floor initially
22:16
because believe it or not the Ford van is not level on the inside and not in a level
22:23
it actually has some time it has like a crown to it so this has like a crown
22:29
so you got to be careful about that
22:34
it looks pretty good
22:41
don't leave off these joints right here
22:47
all right coming to the back
22:54
I'll need to change up my tube here in just a second
23:03
now you do have 30 minutes to work with this stuff so
23:11
you don't have to rush but I would still kind of be in a slight rush just in case something happens you
23:18
had to I don't know what you have to do
23:25
something phone bathroom something like that
23:35
don't get distracted how about that
23:51
[Music]
24:09
foreign
24:43
over here and the board looks like there's green paint on it it is green
24:48
paint but that paint it's just a cheap outdoor paint that I
24:54
got um at Lowe's and what I mean cheap is it was on clearance because it was somebody
25:00
it's a good exterior paint That's mold resistant but somebody just didn't like the color
25:07
or something like that and they just put it on the shelf so you can get it for half price if you
25:13
find that if somebody just didn't want it so I got it for 15 bucks
25:22
the most important paint that we're put on here is the bonding primer
25:27
so the bonding primer is going to be
25:35
what we put on tomorrow and that stuff is important
26:22
you kind of see I'm having to kind of force it on here like smush it because it doesn't want to stick
26:49
the hole that I'm passing right now that was is the whole access for our spare
26:55
tire so we don't need it anymore but I access that so that I could uh
27:03
pull up the cable that was holding the old spare tire the new spare tire does not fit because
27:10
it's oversized so that was uh that's just one thing we did
27:18
and put a little bit extra here on this end this tail
27:25
I'm sure we get a good seal on the end of the van and that one we're gonna just put a
27:31
little bit more here on this tail
27:38
okay go through make sure we didn't miss anything I'm gonna make sure we put a little bit
27:44
around this washer just like that that way when we squeeze it down
27:52
make sure it gets in place or stays in place
27:58
throughout the life of the van all right and then now it's time to
28:05
double check so we want to go through make sure there's no Gap you know more
28:11
than an inch that doesn't have a
28:18
adhesive on it um let's see here let's get that
28:27
okay so clock is ticking now so we need to take our
28:35
squeegee which uh where's it here we go
28:42
you need to make sure we knock down any of these high areas so like this one
28:48
this one this one right here is a little too high
28:54
that one yeah let's look around
28:59
these over here anything that got a little a little too high when you were
29:07
talking everything needs to be nice and low
29:15
all right this looks excellent perfect
29:20
let me just scrape it out of the way all right now let's go get our piece of wood
29:48
now it's good to practice on how you get this in the van
29:53
before you get it in the van and I've done it a couple of times so there's a
29:58
couple different ways but I need to try and Float this before it comes down so just like that
30:05
on this back side and I'm gonna do the back side first
30:11
and then let it fall down and then I have alignment marks
30:17
that I need to follow and then as soon as I have them
30:23
good my next priority is these two holes right here I need to make sure they are absolutely
30:29
perfect so go ahead and grab your bolts
30:40
and that is a great sound perfect
30:45
so we'll just give it a good push back
30:56
that looks good
31:03
we're good to go there
31:11
I'm just going to check them with the van to see if they're uh crooked at all and they come out
31:18
and they're good okay so on the floor is in
31:23
now we can walk on it we're going to bring our Tools in so we can go ahead and start drilling our holes up there
31:31
so we need our drill drill aluminum countersink
31:38
bit and we need our number 10 inch and a quarter
31:46
screws and we need five of them
31:54
all right so now we can walk on it
32:06
oh
32:12
just want to make sure we got this it's far forward
32:18
as we can
32:39
okay now you can walk on it
33:08
okay so let's again make sure we didn't move it
33:19
so first we're going to take the piece of aluminum I'm going to lay it down
33:24
and just for a visual reference we're going to get our our line
33:32
and this is just so we don't do something dumb and countersink you know on the edge of the
33:39
piece of aluminum it's a good thing to do when you're working late at night you know
33:47
and then just as a double check to ourselves we need to make sure we come through
33:52
and we're just going to put a little dot in the center where we want to
33:57
screw down this uh piece of wood
34:02
so I can't do it here because when I was cutting this I was going to remove this piece but
34:09
instead I decided to leave it and I wasn't watching my mark So I cut into
34:15
the about right there this is going to be fine it's going to be glued down but I need to back up the screw
34:21
right there all right next let's go ahead and
34:28
get our countersink remember the screw is your guide for countersinking
34:42
it's going to tell you how big to make it that one's perfect
34:53
this is just going through the top of the aluminum not the van [Music]
35:04
once that's done we can get our
35:09
Phillips
35:25
and you want your drill on a high torque setting
35:31
you want to stay straight up and remember it's cutting through the aluminum so just be prepared
35:40
and then as soon as you fill the board clamp down stop don't strip out the screw through the aluminum
35:46
[Music] all right that feels good
35:54
for the next one
36:25
thank you foreign
36:43
I know I need more than one drill but my the wall the other one
36:49
uh it's not working so
37:09
yeah as soon as you see that just kind of sink just a little bit make sure you stop
37:35
oh foreign
37:48
[Applause] [Music]
38:25
and on top of what we're doing to get this nice and flush we're going to put a
38:30
piece of board down here and put a lot of weight on this joint so the glue in these middle parts pushes out
38:38
we could have drill more but um it's it's really not that big of a deal
38:48
we're putting 10 screws in it so I think if you doubled it up I think that'd be a little crazy
38:55
this is for most people don't do this so
39:39
[Music]
39:50
oh
40:02
my God foreign
40:13
last one
40:37
all right
40:45
so I think what I'm gonna do that did lift this edge up right here
40:51
so I'm going to carefully do one really close to the edge
40:57
so right here and hopefully [Music]
41:07
hopefully that's going to grab into the aluminum because I didn't
41:17
because the aluminum is not I didn't extend it all the way out
41:22
because I don't want I never want any sharp edges potentially touching Electronics so
41:34
okay that's good we did hit it excellent
42:02
awesome nice and flush very strong perfect perfect perfect
42:10
this put a little bit of extra pressure here get that
42:15
glue squeeze from these middle pieces
42:24
perfect that's awesome
42:31
yeah so really after we sand this or put the epoxy on it and sand it it's gonna be awesome it's gonna be super
42:39
it's already very flush
42:45
all right do we have any questions are people watching not really it's late
42:55
that's okay we will talk to you guys very soon all right let me turn the light down on
43:01
here just a little bit there you go well you guys can see
43:07
see the floor here uh we did a great job so
43:12
we are going to let this floor just do its thing dry up
43:18
we're going to come by tomorrow we may we may uh Trace out some
43:25
stuff but we'll do I'm gonna put the weight on here tonight and then we'll come back tomorrow and do
43:31
the epoxy so I'm going to show you how I transfer the weight on this
43:37
especially this this middle seam even though we have the glue we really want to make sure that
43:43
we have a lot of weight on there
44:12
so I'm gonna put this on here
44:20
and you guys can guess in the comments what is in these boxes
44:27
I need my other piece of wood I have a wider piece somewhere
44:39
all right
45:00
actually I'm gonna come back to that one I need to
45:06
get the tire yes I have a spare tire for the van is part of the
45:15
floor procedure here
45:42
thank you
46:12
foreign
47:32
okay now I can put on this one this middle piece
48:32
foreign
48:51
guys that is it for the live stream hope you enjoyed this video hope it was
48:57
helpful if you guys are learning how to put in your own flooring system
49:03
um yeah that's pretty much what it takes so uh
49:08
and it's a little bit more uh complicated as far as I mean complex
49:14
as far as uh you know the step-by-step it's not a just buy it and install it type of thing
49:20
this is designed for the dir that's looking to save money and do it yourself
49:26
put their own flooring system in and if you guys haven't watched the other live streams and this is the first
49:32
one you're seeing the template that I got was from AVC rig
49:37
they're in our Colorado or Evergreen Colorado uh Adventure van Expo coverage
49:45
um so you get an interview with them and instead of buying their high-end
49:50
pre-insulated pre-cut flooring system you can buy the template which is the
49:57
exact same template that they're mapping to cut that but you can just get the paper and cut out your own wood Source
50:04
your own wood locally same as insulation and so that was what this video was about it was showing you
50:11
that process and um what you can do and the reason I chose
50:17
this one in this van not only to make this video but it was because I'm removing a lot of material from the
50:22
floor so I cut a lot of ports out here I cut a lot of stuff for the battery the basto heater the shower floor pan the
50:30
flip and fold seat the steps and that's a lot of material removed so if you're going to buy a one and done floor system
50:38
you probably want to keep all that intact and use most of the floor uh you know I'm probably cut out as much
50:44
wood as one whole panel for the stuff that we're putting this van so it just made sense that this would be a better
50:50
option to go it's a little more work but I got to customize the cable tray under
50:57
the floor and that was really nice I didn't have to find some way to pull everything through the walls
51:04
um I did use one cavity that Venture wagon makes a little bit larger so you can pull wires through
51:11
but all in all this is pretty much it from here we'll go to the next part of
51:16
this series which is putting in the lawn seal now there's many types of flooring that you can put in this you can put a
51:22
click click in flooring or like the Click lock flooring you'd like to have something waterproof
51:28
if you're if you're going to do that just so that you don't have a leak in the van or you spill something and it
51:33
gets to this wood uh if you do anticipate doing something like that you'll want to make sure that
51:41
you seal this wood tomorrow we're actually going to be sealing this wood with an epoxy
51:49
um kind of like an adhesion promoter type thing it's designed so that the wood can
51:54
mate to the epoxy better so we'll be doing that tomorrow so look forward to that
52:01
but yeah you can put any flooring system really that you want you can go really high-end like the two Tech Two flooring that's pretty uh popular but I've
52:08
already purchased the black coin lawn sill so it's pretty standard that's
52:13
what's going in this van it's going to kind of keep the theme of like black bamboo gray dark gray kind of theme that we
52:20
have in the van uh so we've got good lighting but like nice nice dark colors
52:27
and uh yeah so hope you guys check out the live stream tomorrow uh make sure
52:33
that you're subscribed to the channel like this video If you enjoyed it if you think this will be helpful for somebody you know share that to them give them
