hey guys welcome to the live stream we are back in the shop today and uh we're doing a quick install uh before the
0:17
Super Bowl try get another video out before uh the weekend's over and we're going to install this Vander Moon uh
0:24
rear door organizer um this thing's awesome as soon as I saw it come out uh
0:30
I had to grab one so um I got this from uh Peter over
0:35
at rber vans so he's the one that uh they sell these um there's some other
0:41
companies that sell them as well um but that's kind of the original I guess you would say um but they have these rear
0:48
door organizers so they're for I think uh obviously Sprinter uh we' got
0:53
ProMaster and Transit I think that's about it right now so don't quote me on that but you can do a couple different
1:00
options so this is the middle panel so they have a middle panel a top and then a
1:06
bottom and I just got done installing this I wanted to get a little demo install before I
1:13
actually showed you guys how to do it um so if there's anything that I learned from it you know you guys can use in
1:20
your learnings as well but uh hey George thanks for joining the live stream uh so
1:26
I'm going to move the phone over here to the workbench
1:31
and then um I'm going to uh yeah we're going to get a do a little
1:37
bit of prep work so hopefully you guys can hear me
1:44
um I know the microphone on these live streams picks up from the back of the phone so uh yeah I'm try to uh speak up
1:52
a little bit so this is the panel and when you
1:59
get the panel what you're going to want to do is flip it around and this is only specific to the transit I can't haven't
2:06
done the other ones yet but there's these red dots in uh each of these panels and that's where there's these
2:13
preh hole cutouts and it's behind the uh the
2:23
piece so we're going to use a couple different pieces of Hardware we've got some self-tapping screws and then we got
2:30
these black painted stainless which are going to go on the outside to hold it to the
2:41
van and then the kit is going to come with these aluminum kind of these
2:50
pre-bent aluminum hold offs and they're going to sheet will screw these in they
2:56
do use a rivet so you can do a rivet if you want to um yeah so they have these pieces you
3:02
can rivet them in or I'm going to use a sheet metal screw to hold it and then this other side right here is where
3:09
we're going to use the black stainless sheet metal screw and we're going to uh drill that in
3:17
there now what you're going to see me do with this uh piece of fabric over here is I'm going to use a hole punch or like
3:25
a center punch and I'm going to widen the holes um that way I can identify them
3:30
from the other side and I can take a permanent marker and just make a DOT on the door where I need to install these
3:43
brackets so we're going to use a punch and we're just going to flip this
3:49
over and then I'm just been hammering it through the other side just to open it up but I find my hole and I come
3:58
through and I just want it to poke out the other side so that I can
4:06
uh some of these you kind of have to find out where they're not
4:11
perfect that's why you want to find where the fabric kind of
4:17
depresses just hammer
4:28
in
4:37
okay so I went I did one pass sometimes that's not enough um you
4:44
might if it doesn't come through the other side and then I'm just going to take it and do one more time on the other
4:58
side
5:10
and you should have 10 so if you're missing any so I've got three [Music]
5:16
here sure that's the
5:22
hole one two three so there supposed to be hole
5:33
here okay so this one's not marked some may be marked and some won't
5:40
be marked and these are handmade
5:50
actually okay so now that I know where they are what I'm going to do is just open these up just a little bit more and
5:57
that way my sheet metal screw won't catch on the Fabric and tear it when I go to install
6:12
[Music]
6:27
it okay so now that we got the holes widen we can move the camera and we're going to take a look at the
6:36
door there we
6:43
go and we're going to do the whole thing on this door we're actually going to sound deaden the back of the door with
6:49
some kilm and then we're going to put some 3M thet and then we're going
6:56
to uh put it all together now one thing you guys can learn from
7:02
it's not a mistake it's more me being uh a little picky on how
7:07
things look but um what I did on this one and I'll show you so you're kind of
7:13
aware when we go to the the next one yeah Jamie the sound's going to be
7:21
better when I'm behind the camera um it will not be good when I'm in front of the camera
7:28
so yeah that's that's the iPhone here um yeah so let me show you a couple of
7:45
things so it's going to come with this paper template and this thing is a
7:52
little uh wonky because what they want you to do is put this up here and I
7:58
could be doing this wrong I'm not sure but it seems to be the right way to do
8:03
it but with this
8:13
template so you're going to put the template on and then you cut out the middle and then these flaps fold in on
8:21
the Contour of the van so they'll fold in and then this is going to be your
8:26
location of uh where your bracket goes however what I found
8:32
is uh this side over here on my left side
8:38
um where I put where I stamped the hole was offset to what the panel was
8:47
originally so what I'm doing is I'm not using the paper template I'm using the punch and then what I'm going to be
8:53
doing is I'm going to be taking the marker marking the outside
8:59
of the material and then I'm going to inset my
9:06
uh aluminum
9:14
brackets now because I followed the template the first time you can see there's this uh there's a little bit of
9:21
a uh Gap here now that's only in this right here this angle um but coming from
9:28
here it's really not noticeable it's I guess it's just noticeable to me um I kind of
9:34
want it to be perfect as you guys probably know but the uh the outside um
9:41
it doesn't actually go into the panel so it just kind of hovers on the outside so it's uh yeah so what we're
9:50
going to do this time to the other side is we're going to inset this bracket
9:55
further in so we're going to go about a qu of an inch in and and then that should alleviate our offset that we
10:06
experienced okay so let me get the camera ready and we'll get started if you guys have a
10:13
question put it in the chat um love to answer your questions can be anything van related doesn't have to be on what
10:19
we're doing today but the first thing we're going to do is we're going to get our uh sound deadening our killmat and
10:26
we're going to put that in here and uh that'll be our first
10:37
step what's nice about the back door is one sheet of standard kilmat is going to
10:44
fit the top left uh pretty
10:58
perfect so I just took my finger and just
11:04
outlined it then I'm just going to cut
11:09
um first want to take off the paper afterwards I just kind of rushed it a little
11:27
bit
11:41
so again the cheat here is to press on this foil and it's going to make its own outline for
11:57
you
12:27
right and don't forget save your scraps
12:34
because we're going to use that on the inside of the bottom of the
12:57
door
13:37
so we're going to take some of those scraps and we're going to just put that over
13:57
there
14:09
next we're going to take this roller and go ahead and roll it in make sure it he
14:15
appears really [Music]
14:27
well [Music]
14:57
okay
15:04
[Applause]
15:12
okay next we're going to come back over the table and we're going
15:19
to cut out our insulation so we're using the 3M uh
15:25
thinsulate now this is what was provided to us in the adventure wagon
15:34
kit so it's not it's obviously not the havlock we're using on the other
15:55
van and we're just gonna take a pair of scissors and just cut around the
16:03
outline we're cutting about an inch on the inside and make sure you don't cut your
16:12
organizer while you're doing this
16:22
process so we'll use this for the bottom door
16:27
panel
16:57
for
17:11
yeah we do want to be on the inside because we don't want it to be smoos and then sticking out past
17:17
our aluminum brackets so don't want to be able to see
17:23
anything Ed all right so as you after you we've
17:28
quickly done that um what we're going to do is take this double-sided
17:34
tape so they uh the adventure wagon kit gives you this hum humongous roll and i'
17:40
just I've been using it for like two other Vans but this big wide double-sided tape we're going to tape on
17:46
the top and bottom of our our rear door panel and what that's going to do is that's going to allow us uh allow the
17:54
insulation to not move on us over time
18:57
for
19:57
for
20:04
so whenever you cut thinsulate it's going to do this thing where the scissors will pinch the fabric together
20:10
and you uh just go ahead and just kind of peel it apart cuz remember the fabric
20:16
being able to Loft and kind of be fluffed up that is what's going to give you
20:22
your best thermal thermal value
20:31
okay all right so before we do that we're going
20:37
to put our panel up and Mark where our holes need to
20:57
go
21:24
yeah so this is where you need to be pretty visual about where you want this thing to sit um we're going to take some
21:31
denatured alcohol and we'll get this permanent marker
21:46
off okay so we got one two three four five six seven8 nine 10 this will be a
21:54
little awkward here where this is uh coming out so as as long as everything looks
21:59
even uh we're pretty much good to go our spacing like this this in out is going
22:06
to be our Brack our aluminum brackets will designate how that's going to
22:26
work
22:50
so what I did before is I had since it does the panel doesn't sit
22:56
inside I had the bracket flush and you don't want to have the bracket flush you
23:01
want to have the bracket inset about A4 of an
23:15
inch and so all I did was I took a center punch and then I just Center punched these holes so that when I start
23:23
to drill it's going to uh have place for me to to drill
23:56
this
24:26
for
24:56
that
25:26
that
25:56
for
26:24
okay we got everything uh punched out so the next thing we're going to do is we're just going
26:30
to use our self-tapping screws and Bolt the brackets
26:56
in
27:38
now it's going to be tricky doing these self tappers because it's a curved surface so just going to have to be
27:43
really patient when you do it took me a minute to do it on the side and higher
27:49
speed uh does make it easier but you might follow up the curb easier as
27:55
well so just take your time um another Pro tip is you can take your
28:01
foot and lock the door so I've got a platform down here and what I'm doing is
28:09
I've got this standing platform like a painters platform and then I'm taking my
28:15
foot pushing the door out so now the door is not wobbling back and forth and it makes it a whole lot easier to for
28:22
the door not to move
28:56
for
29:26
f
29:57
[Music]
30:09
and I have the clutch setting on the lowest setting on my drill and that's just to make sure that I don't strip out
30:14
a self Tapper cuz they do strip easily if you've used them
30:26
before
30:39
[Music]
30:56
go you could pre-drill this and do a rivet
31:02
I just think it takes too long
31:26
personally
32:00
[Applause]
33:29
[Music]
34:25
for
34:42
[Music]
34:54
[Music]
35:25
yeah
36:08
[Music]
36:25
for
36:54
okay we only got four more brackets to go we're almost there you got this is uh
36:59
this is definitely something that tests your patience for sure this
37:11
[Music]
37:25
is
38:44
as you guys can see some of these holes are really easy and then some are pretty
38:55
tough
39:21
[Applause]
39:35
now obviously when you put this panel on here you're not going to be able to access this so just keep that in
39:55
mind okay last one last
40:25
bracket
40:55
for
41:03
okay after you dust all the metal fly fings off you're ready to go ahead and put the insulation
41:12
in we just want to make sure this is
41:25
centered
41:50
now we're going to take our black painted screws and finish this up
42:04
so what we want to do to make it easier in ourselves is we're going just going to get this first hole drilled in and then we'll go to our bottom hole just to
42:12
Aline it and then we can do the
42:25
rest
42:55
for
43:27
[Music]
43:34
all right so you see I set the top one and then I set this bottom one and then now it's held in place we can go around
43:40
and uh so let's go around and check our gaps so this Gap is really good however if we
43:48
come over here this Gap uh starts to widen down
43:53
here so what I may do is take this one
44:01
out I'm going see how much I can actually move it over I don't think I'm going to be able to because of this this
44:07
handle over
44:22
[Music] here
44:34
so I think that's where it's going to live we're just have this we're going to have this little reveal right here but
44:39
everywhere else is perfect looks really good um unless you want to actually cut
44:45
out this fabric which I I would not suggest doing that um that little Notch
44:51
is just something you're going to have to kind of work with
45:05
and don't tighten these all the way to the clutch on your drill go through and take a screwdriver and hand tighten
45:24
everything
45:50
[Music]
46:24
for
48:54
for
49:01
all right and I got one surprise Finishing Touch for you guys that are watching today we're going to do a
