hey guys welcome back to the shop today's video is exciting because we are moving on to installing the
0:14
max fan up here also called max air fan essentially it is the deluxe version
0:21
and that allows you to ventilate the van which is very very important in van life
0:29
and uh really just any type of van living you're doing exhausting the moisture
0:34
that you're breathing out because you're human is really really important and this max
0:40
fan is the best way to do it so uh what we're doing is we are installing
0:45
this max fan in our adventure wagon kit and when you purchase a kit from
0:51
adventure wagon it's going to have these holes pre-cut out so you may
0:57
decide to have two holes cut out there's additional charges for how many different
1:02
holes you want pre cut out in the roof ceiling so you can do zero one two we just decided to do one and we decided
1:09
to do it in the front typically you would put an air conditioner unit in
1:14
the back and in case a future customer wants to add that option we have a space to add that option but
1:21
if they don't they just want one single fan they can just go with one single fan so we're just doing one fan today
1:28
and what we did is we went ahead and uh pre-installed this panel
1:34
uh now if you're doing the if you're watching this video because you are doing a venture whacking kit then i'll add some details to this
1:42
you want to go ahead and put your panel in because on a ford transit there's actually two
1:48
locations that you can put the vent you can actually put it here or you can put it
1:54
right up here and then there's a special uh
1:59
let me grab it real quick
2:05
okay if you're stalling a vent fan in any type of van
2:11
you will want to purchase a adapter trim ring
2:16
or adapter ring this is going to go on top of this ford transit van
2:23
and ford transit or sprinter promaster they're going to have all these little uh
2:31
body what do you call ribs so in the manufacturing process it you
2:37
know adds strength to the shell of the van but you're going to have these dips and valleys
2:43
and what this adapter ring does is you can see it is going to make up the difference of
2:49
that and give you a flat flush area to mount your
2:56
max fan to they make two of these style two styles of these
3:02
um this one actually comes with the eventual whacking kit and
3:09
there's another company called diy van they sell on ebay and they also have a
3:14
website uh that's why i like to purchase mine from they have really really good quality
3:20
and they have two different styles so they have a style for this location and then they have a style for the forward
3:25
most fan location which is next to this rib up here and it's just designed differently to
3:32
make up for uh this cross area that goes on the roof so you got two options
3:38
so since you guys are watching this again for the adventure wagon
3:44
this one is located to the back and then it is this
3:49
profile here is flush with the roof rib in this location
3:54
and typically max fans are our roof vent fan is a standard 14 by 14
4:00
inches so you take it where this rib is or you take a pencil
4:05
and then just keep your eye here and then you want to make sure that
4:11
this face is equal with this face up here and it is and we're going to go over here
4:18
over here and we just went ahead and traced that trace the sides um
4:25
but once you have that adapter ring you know your location of where your vents gonna go
4:31
go ahead and install this piece from the adventure wagon just to triple check
4:37
because what you need to understand is if you remember when you installed the kit
4:44
everything is trans is translated from itself so if you have one thing in one location and
4:49
you're off a sixteenth of an eighth uh hopefully not a quarter of an inch
4:55
but if you're off just a sixteenth or an eighth of an inch then you will you're going to have
5:01
that much less of an adjustment to where this locates so i took my time and this is perfectly
5:07
located this right here is perfectly here this goes into this slot it goes under the
5:14
slots in the left and right so this whole thing is nice and true
5:22
so just put this panel in just to double check because if you made an error
5:27
and putting in the inventure wagon kit and you need to kind of save yourself
5:33
you can put this panel in and if for some reason you put it into where the adventure wagon gets okay but this panel is
5:39
shifted forward a little bit too far you can make up for it for where the fan location is so
5:46
say like it's a quarter of an inch off you can slide this up forward and then you'll be able to take up that difference
5:51
however try not to do that because it makes everything much much harder
5:58
next you're going to have we're going to go through the process of
6:03
drilling a pilot hole we will take
6:08
so pretend like this is the drill pilot hole we'll drill it right up against this rib
6:14
and then we'll take this adapter ring and we'll come up on the roof and we'll slide it to it knocks into that
6:22
drill bit when it knocks on that drill bit we can go ahead and tape it down
6:27
trace out our line and then
6:32
take it off tape it up we'll enlarge this hole
6:38
for our jigsaw we'll go on top of the van jigsaw this hole out
6:44
and then we'll go through our normal procedure of deburring sanding
6:50
rust preventative once that's finished the next step
6:57
and i'm just being specific to adventure wagon i'll put some other things in here on how i did my personal vans and how
7:03
other vans are done but let me go grab this adhesive real quick
7:21
so when you're putting together or when you're installing the fan and you're putting together your supplies
7:26
that you need there's a lot of different schools of thought on what you can use to seal
7:32
your trim ring the diy vans kit they recommend 3m window weld was like a
7:41
black adhesive and the adventure wagon kit
7:50
this is a terracin ms-5510bk
7:55
elastic adhesive so this is what they put in the kit
8:00
and that's what they're recommending
8:06
and then you can also use
8:12
uh some other adhesives such as uh like sikaflex makes a polyurethane
8:18
sealant that you could put down to glue it down
8:25
of course really that is you're supposed to be used for after you put this or a 3m window weld
8:31
i'll explain that so before you put the actual vent fan in
8:36
after you've cut your hole out you've cleaned everything up and you've done your rust preventative you're gonna put this
8:42
adapter ring on top of the roof um you're gonna double check everything
8:47
and then you're gonna take it off you're gonna take your adhesive 3m window weld or this uh
8:53
ms-5510 and you're gonna squirt it around here
9:00
and then you're gonna clamp it back down and i'm gonna put some pieces of wood
9:06
with my clamp and i'm gonna clamp this down and i'm gonna let it set overnight to cure
9:11
because i want it cured and bonded with the roof and then once i'm finished i'll go ahead and
9:20
uh layout where my holes are going to be drilled
9:26
and you can do a starting hole in each one of these
9:34
and then follow it up with a sheet metal screw to hold
9:40
the actual max fan to the trim ring through the sheet metal
9:46
so i'll explain it one more time you're going to put your adapter ring on and then you're going to put the max fan
9:53
on and then you want to pre-drill your holes for the max fan
9:59
now this is my recommendation pre-drilled the holes for the max fan you don't want to go all the way through
10:05
the sheet metal you just want to drill through the max fan uh
10:11
into this adapter ring and then stop right when you feel that you're
10:16
touching the sheet metal just stop that way you don't break or crack
10:22
this because if you just drill straight through it you have the risk of cracking this and you don't want to crack this
10:28
because that's going to lead to future problems where you may have leaks
10:33
so put this down put your max fan on it the max fans are going to have holes so
10:38
you're just going to follow those holes right to the sheet metal don't go through the sheet metal
10:43
and then when you're ready this will have already been glued you can
10:49
put your max fan back on i take your mixman off put your sealant around here
10:57
then put your max fan on and then now you're ready to take your sheet metal screws and screw them into
11:04
all the holes to get really tight and sealed to the roof
11:10
you're going to want to tape all around this so that you don't get any adhesive or sealant you're already going to be taping it so
11:16
that you can paint and do your rust preventative take that paint off and then move that
11:21
tape a quarter of an inch outside of this so that when your sealant squeezes out
11:27
from your first part of application you can wipe it off and then on your second
11:34
application when the max van goes on top you can wipe that off as well explain why we're doing that
11:41
once you clean up that up twice and everything dries you're going to do a final coat
11:47
of flex seal now it sounds wild that you would use a
11:52
flex seal product for something like this but i was hesitant at first it works incredible
11:59
it gives you a really nice professional look on the outside it's nice and shiny
12:04
it kind of melts into the grooves and it's almost like a sika flex polyurethane sealant
12:12
but it looks very professional i just i like the look and it seals very well
12:18
i've had it on my personal van for two years i've had zero leaks so does a great job and it's really easy to
12:24
touch up because if you miss the area you can just use the same thing and repaint it back on
12:29
um so over time if you've seen videos on youtube or you've seen other people's vans the roof
12:35
gets all nasty and cracks up on the top this you can just clean it up and then reapply it
12:42
to itself so that's this one reason i use that now again nobody's going to be up there
12:48
looking at how clean of a ceiling job you did so the number one
12:53
priority is to make sure that it's not leaking then number two for me is aesthetics i like to take pictures of it make it look
12:59
really nice and professional just as we did on the roof rack you guys can watch that in a different video when
13:06
we sealed up the roof rack uh ports anyway we're gonna get started um
13:13
and pretty much yeah after that flex still dries you're done with the whole entire thing you can play around with opening and
13:19
closing the fan uh the last thing that you need to do and it could be at the beginning or even
13:25
later in your build is figure out how you're gonna do your electrical wiring there's only two wires just a positive
13:31
negative 12 volt wire to power the fan if you get the deluxe model which we're
13:36
installing you're going to get the max fan remote you're going to be able to open it
13:42
remotely and really that electrical cable is the only thing left and you'll be completely
13:48
done and able to enjoy your fan but right now we're going to go ahead and change the camera up we're going to
13:54
drill our pilot hole into the panel right here and then we're just going to do
14:00
step-by-step the procedures that i just went over and we're going to go ahead and start installing our max fan
14:07
okay we're going to go ahead and get started first thing we have to do is take off the ceiling panel
14:13
again we've already gone over here and marked out exactly where our cutout is going to be
14:19
and if you guys really want to triple check there is a
14:25
trim piece that comes with the max fan kit and basically that's going to go right
14:31
up in here and you can see that you've got you know plenty of room for that
14:38
and everything's going to be covered so just give you a little peace of mind
14:43
before you actually start cutting into the roof but what i'm going to do over here is
14:48
i'm actually going to take this back side off and then loosen
14:54
the sides then slide it out
15:17
all right next we are moving to uh set this up so we can cut it up the
15:23
jigsaw so the first thing we want to do is we're going to take a very small drill bit
15:29
about that size and we're going to go over here just in the center doesn't have to be perfectly in the
15:35
center but we want to have the drill bit touching the rib so we know that that is
15:41
the furthest back point and we're just going to go in there drill a hole
15:59
don't forget your safety glasses
16:06
[Music]
16:14
[Music] okay and then we're actually gonna do something
16:19
interesting is we're gonna take our bit take our drill off of the
16:24
bit and then just push the bit up through there so when you drill through and it kind of
16:31
catches take the drill off of it and let it stay tight so you can push it up in there and
16:37
it stays and then we'll go up on the roof and i'll show you why that's important and now we're on top of the van
16:44
and one thing i wanted to make you guys aware of is it's really important to get
16:50
everything nice and clean uh so clean it off before you start
16:55
doing your tape and stuff like that because the tape it's really dusty up here and nothing's really going to stick
17:02
and we want to keep this as clean as possible when we go to cut it out so as you see right now
17:09
this is where our drill bit came through
17:15
and just for illustration purposes another piece of
17:20
pvc here a little bit of lattice
17:25
so if you can see this is where our rib is coming
17:30
and so we're making sure that the [Music]
17:36
we're in front of this rib and then we're measuring out
17:42
the cool thing is we have one of these guys that came in the kit
17:47
and if you notice what this does is this makes everything nice and even up on the roof
17:54
so when we go to put our um
18:01
max fan on here it'll be nice and flat like i said earlier so we're gonna move this piece out this
18:07
just to give you guys a visual of where the beam is coming across
18:15
but we're going to take this
18:20
and we're going to sit on the back side of this drill bit and then we're going to slide
18:25
it forward and then what that does is that locks it into place
18:30
forwards to back and then left to right this gasket is made to sit
18:37
right where it needs to be right in the middle so you can feel it kind of rise up and left and right once you get it to where
18:42
it's flush you know that's exactly where it needs to be so before i actually trace this out
18:50
because this is going to be what we use to cut i'm going to
18:55
take some dna and alcohol and i'm going to clean all this up
19:01
all this gunk up here next we're going to clean up the area
19:06
we're just prepping the surface getting all the dirt off so that when we do scuff it up
19:11
so that we get proper adhesion with the adhesive it's ready to go next take your tape measure double check
19:18
everything make sure you got the adapter ring exactly where you need it before you trace it out with a permanent marker
19:25
once you've traced it out just again triple check that you got your lines where you want them
19:32
and then you're going to go and get your drill get a drill bit that's big enough to
19:38
have your jigsaw blade go through the hole and that's going to
19:43
allow you to have a nice easy start when you start cutting definitely make sure you tape off the
19:49
area as much as possible get that painters plastic put it on your roof and
19:55
contain all those little metal filings it's super important if you don't those metal filings will
20:01
make their way into the paint surface and they're kind of hard to get out if you don't protect it really well
20:08
then you're ready to just go ahead and start following your lines cutting everything out
20:13
use tape to help you along the way this keeps all the vibration down um just makes it
20:20
a really easy experience to jigsaw it out plus um you can do a solo you don't
20:27
have to have somebody worrying about this piece of sheet metal following and tearing something up on the inside of your van
20:33
and makes a whole lot easier
20:43
[Music] alright guys real quick before we get back up on the roof i wanted to show you
20:50
the underside of this so you can get an idea of what it's supposed to look like
20:55
when you get this layout uh all your lines drawn so if you remember what we did here is
21:02
we went through and we made sure that we rode this uh
21:08
cross brace right here and then you can see we have our line that we drew so that right there is
21:15
perfect and then right here that is our line for our opening of the
21:23
bamboo piece um we made it a little bit smaller but that's only because the template up
21:29
there was smaller so anytime that you can take less material away is better so we're going to see if
21:35
that's going to work for us and then right here we have our line
21:43
you guys can see right there so this is
21:49
this is our piece um so we're gonna take it down from here so let me get a
21:56
glove on real quick glasses because this stuff stuff is very
22:02
very very very sharp um okay one more thing before i take this down there's an easy way to
22:09
make this all happen you might have seen it in the time lapse that was just there but what i do is i drill a starter hole you guys have seen that before
22:16
if you watch my videos starter holding your drill your jigsaw in
22:21
and then over here you want to do one on an opposite side so one here and one here
22:28
this one that's right here is going to take you down this way and take you down this way and then this
22:34
one's going to take you down this way and on this way and then basically you won't have to
22:40
you know drill more holes if you wanted it to be faster anyway you want these to be nice and
22:46
square and so when this is finished you should be able to just grab one side
22:52
of it and you've probably seen the way that i taped this
22:57
you can always buy more tape so just use as much tape as possible to control all the sharp metal so it doesn't just
23:03
like fall into your van and scratch things up but we'll go ahead and we'll just peel it off
23:12
you guys see if we just we tape it really nice
23:19
it's really easy to to take off and it can be a one-person job
23:26
all right so now we got our tape so we're gonna take this off
23:31
we will get back up to the top here in just a second [Music]
23:41
if you see that fine-toothed jigsaw does a really really good job at just making
23:47
this a nice clean cut so you don't have to do too much clean up work okay we're back up here on the
23:53
roof first order of business is do not
23:58
collapse the roof find that beam let your knees be on the beam
24:04
and you guys see i have like a little rug towel here okay
24:10
next is to take things off that are going to scratch
24:16
so now that you've finished jigsawing out your hole you can take your plastic with all the little metal filings out
24:22
and just take that away just kind of throw it directly through the hole then take off the tape that you used
24:28
to uh you know be your lines for the jigsaw and then widen them so that now they're
24:34
outside of the trim ring and that is really what's going to help you know get that stuff that oozes out
24:40
like i was saying before what i'm doing right now is i get a little flap disc that i'm going and just
24:46
grinding down any of the burrs that were there i'm taking denatured alcohol and then wiping off any of the excess
24:52
little filings and dust to get it super clean [Music]
24:58
the next step is to get a can of rust-oleum i use a matte black finish and i just spray it into a cup
25:05
take a artist brush and start painting all of the exposed metal edges to do the
25:12
rust preventative after i'm finished with that i'm going to take some denatured alcohol i'm going
25:18
to clean up the adapter ring just to make sure everything has really
25:23
good adhesion i've already scuffed up the underside of
25:28
it so that when i get ready to put my adhesive on it's going to stick really well
25:34
now once you get your adhesive you're going to make want to make three passes
25:40
so an inside pass middle and then outside and each one is
25:45
about an eighth of an inch thick
25:50
passes of adhesive okay another something that's very
25:57
important is when you put this down make sure these dips
26:03
go in the orientation of the roof so where is dipped on each side
26:08
that is going to be your top and back
26:13
so we'll take it and flip it over and then
26:20
kind of get it into place it's pretty tacky
26:28
you're not really going to have to worry about getting it perfect
26:48
[Music] just kind of squeeze it and that's going to set it into place initially
26:56
and then like i said what we're going to do if we have everything nice and
27:02
even here so we're going to go ahead and clamp it down
27:10
the other reason i like clamping it is because i want this to be flat if we just used your hands and pushed it
27:18
it's going to conform to the curve of the van and i don't like that
27:23
so we want to be flat because the fan the whole purpose of this is to put the fan on a flat surface
27:30
so if you guys can see right here see
27:35
it's not flat so we want to make that flat
27:41
this way it's different because the van isn't really curved this way it's curved this
27:46
way um so we'll start out with these two blocks
27:53
these guys i got at lowe's they're really nice they got really good padding
28:00
and they're really easy to to clamp down so we're just gonna put it in here
28:08
squeeze it let that sit put this one over here
28:26
same thing on our back side and make sure you're still able to get
28:32
the tape out if there's tape like i do
28:42
before you completely smush it down um
28:48
remove that tape all right so i didn't do a perfect job with the taping
28:55
i had to move it out of the way of the adapter ring but once i got that finished i went
29:01
ahead and took my wooden pieces that i pre-cut these are 14 inches long
29:06
and that's going to allow me to get a good flat clamping pressure along the adapter ring
29:13
and really take that curve of the van out so that the max fan has a good
29:20
level flat you know platform to stand on
29:25
a lot of people actually don't do this part i just think it's beneficial because if
29:31
you don't take that curve out then the adhesive is having to make up that difference and that's really not
29:37
the best tool to make up that difference so you want to clamp it down and get as
29:43
flat as possible so that adhesive when it gets squeezed it's nice and flat it's not filling any holes or gaps
29:50
speaking of holes and gaps you'll notice that when you put this trimmery on where the corrugations are
29:56
on the four corners there's a little uh gap that you'll need to squirt a little
30:02
extra adhesive in on each of the four corners to get a good seal but you'll see that when you kind of rub
30:08
your finger around it you'll kind of feel an indentation and that's what you need to fill with more adhesive
30:15
once you're finished take the tape off before the adhesive actually dries
30:20
that's the best practice and then just kind of clean up any other drips you might have had and you're all
30:26
set
30:32
alright guys welcome back day two we we're ready to glue in our
30:42
max fan uh top ring so the one that we just did yesterday that is the ring
30:48
um to change the contour or these little corrugations and
30:54
the roof to a nice flat surface uh to mount our
31:00
little mounting ring for the max fan we let this uh
31:06
drive dry for a day and we're gonna go ahead and take all the clamps off
32:08
all right check that out now we have a nice level surface to
32:14
mount on and this is
32:19
nice and secure it also adds a little bit of structure structural rigidity to this front end
32:26
which is now kind of flappy these sides because of the corrugations that are pretty strong
32:32
and this back part is the strongest so what we're going to do today
32:39
is we're going to keep moving on this by installing this ring right here
32:46
when i unpackage the max fan for the box i always put a little arrow to the orientation of this
32:54
it really doesn't matter if it's this way or this way but i like to
33:01
keep it the way in which it was packaged um
33:06
so we're not gluing this on yet we're putting this down because uh
33:12
i do think just a little bit differently we're gonna put this ring up here and uh
33:17
we're actually going to bolt this to the roof so we're not gonna use the screws in the kit we're actually
33:24
going to bolt it and the reason i want to do that is because
33:34
i really want this to be nice and compressed to the roof if you just glue it
33:40
but there's potentials to leak you get the wind buffing it up here
33:47
potentials to loosen it up so it's just what i do
33:52
again might be overkill for some but i feel it is the best way
33:58
uh to install this all right so we're putting our
34:04
little trim ring or a depth ring that goes to the max fan on and i changed my mind with how i was
34:10
going to screw this in i was going to use the factory sheet metal screws that come with the kit that's what i used in my personal van
34:17
but i kind of wanted to upgrade this install and i decided to drill the holes all the way through
34:22
and i purchased stainless steel screws with a
34:28
nyloc blocking nut on the bottom and then so once i cleaned everything up
34:34
uh and i put the max fan top ring on
34:40
again you want to do three passes same thing you did for the adapter ring on the bottom
34:47
once you finish this uh place it on top and what you're going to see is i take those stainless steel screws and i put
34:52
them in all the holes and then i go back with some adhesive and i put
34:58
squirt a little bit adhesive around each head of the bolt on the threads that way
35:04
when i drill them in i get that adhesive drilled down into the hole and it makes a really really
35:09
good seal so just to double check and make sure that's waterproof
35:16
i even go further and put adhesive on top of the screw head
35:21
and then later you'll see i'll talk about following that up with flex cell on top of that
35:27
so this thing is sealed really really well what you just saw here that's the last
35:33
ring of adhesive on the top of the ring
35:39
all right guys we're back on the top of the van we have
35:44
let our adhesive dry it's all set to go got an excellent seal around here
35:52
and we're just going to take this brush and dust it off but first
35:58
actually let me rewind so we put our screws in that you guys saw
36:03
in the time lapse we got them all locked down and we took
36:08
it's a little dollop of the adhesive went around all the screws put a bead around this top this upper
36:15
seal and this thing would be good to go just the way it is
36:21
but i always want to add like a second layer of protection
36:26
because this is going to be in you know direct sunlight and tends to get really brittle over time so
36:33
a little bit of extra work now it goes a long way and then you'll be confident that it's
36:39
not going to leak so the first thing we're going to do is we're going to take this
36:45
scotch bite pad we're just going to we're just going to barely um
36:50
scuff this white part right here and if you hit a little bit of the
36:57
uh the rubber it's no problem because what we're going to do is we're going to come back in here with
37:03
the flex seal and we're going to uh
37:09
flex seal over this whole entire top so basically just going to blanket it
37:16
and flex seal
37:22
and then that's going to give us exactly the seal that we want
37:39
and some say this is overkill but you know the last thing you want is to have
37:46
a roof leak also remember if you're going into any
37:51
winter environments where you got snow [Music] this thing is probably going to be
37:57
sitting in you know maybe half an inch or two inches of snow overnight depending on
38:02
where you're where you're camping at and you're gonna really want this to be
38:10
really sealed up so it can almost almost like it's withstanding setting sitting water
38:55
[Music] you kind of see why i'm doing this the
39:02
rubber sealant or this adhesive doesn't stick that well to this plastic
39:08
i found that flex seal does a much better job
39:15
so i'm really just
39:22
getting this stuff off of here the stuff that's not sticking
39:51
all right i'm just gonna take a brush and just go over this to really clean it up and we're gonna do that before
39:58
we get our taper on the sides
40:17
now we're using the paintable flex seal you can use the spray
40:23
i've used this spray before not on a van i've used it on actually a roof repair
40:29
and again not of a van of a house
40:35
they did very very good so i don't know i'm kind of questionable
40:41
when it comes to as seen on tv products but
40:48
again i've used this on my personal van roof vent it does an excellent job
40:55
so once you have everything dusted and cleaned off uh the next step you want to do
41:01
is go ahead and i'm just going to take these gloves off it's hard to uh
41:07
to do taping jobs with these gloves so
41:19
now remember this taping job that we're doing right now this is just for visual appearance
41:25
so you want to take just a little bit of extra time with this one
41:35
just to make sure it looks really good
41:42
the flex seal is gonna be a little bit more runny than this adhesive that we used
41:49
of course this adhesive that we used was not it's not designed to
41:55
it's an adhesive it's really not designed to kind of gel into place like a lot of
42:02
polyurethane sealants are even though that it is flexible
42:09
um and then also when you're using doing this taping off for this any cracks where these corrugations are
42:18
these liquid sealants tend to find their way into the cracks and then run underneath the tape
42:25
so just make sure when you're doing these corners that you're pushing down before you kind of get the end of the tape in
42:32
so you're kind of conforming to that contour
42:40
and i just make these little 45 angles here on the side
42:46
and i again i'm pushing really hard because this tends to seep underneath those edges
42:55
and this flexo is actually really fun to use i mean you're literally painting on
43:01
liquid rubber so
43:08
if you haven't used before it's fun
43:14
fun to use and i'm going about an eighth of an inch
43:21
sixteenth eighth of an inch outside of the adhesive line just do a little bit
43:26
of an overlap
43:42
[Laughter]
43:50
and once all the tape's down i'm just gonna go through and do one last
43:57
brush make sure we get all our dust off all right now we got our flex seal get a
44:04
little modified screwdriver i used to open cans with just get a little hook on it
44:14
all right we got our flex seal and
44:21
uh you can use a bigger brush i've bought a bunch of these like little craft uh artist brushes from lowe's so
44:28
this is what i have the the other one i have is are these big ones so we don't want to use that
44:35
so i'm just going to use this to paint it on and so we've scuffed everything up and
44:42
i'm actually going to paint this top edge right here the nice thing is
44:47
you actually want you won't see that line you don't want to get into this gasket area
44:53
if you want to you can do this let me show you
45:00
you can tape around this part
45:06
in case you're worried about getting any
45:12
flexo on that uh
45:17
the rim this rim here
45:25
so you can take that off
45:32
and again this is more for aesthetics so that when i take pictures of it it looks nice and pretty
45:40
because it's already sealed i mean this is just extra this is just extra sealing
45:47
so we wanted just to leave it the way it is like this it would be fun
45:58
what i'm going to do is keep this close to the uh uh
46:03
side over here so that i don't drip anywhere and this stuff is very thick you see here
46:08
it's really thick stuff um it takes a little bit of getting used to so when you put it on
46:18
you know you're painting it on but then eventually it'll actually start to uh
46:25
you know it'll start to do its uh gelling thing where it um
46:36
it looks like it streaks but then when you stop it all comes together as one uh
46:43
kind of solid piece uh but make sure you put it on really
46:48
thick that way
46:54
when it gels together like i was saying it makes a nice uniform
47:00
gel pattern
47:11
and last but not least we finish it up with the flex sill uh this stuff is awesome
47:17
again i was really apprehensive about using it but when you start
47:23
putting it on you really understand that it's a pretty cool product i mean you're literally painting on an inner tube seal
47:30
on top of your roof um and i know the
47:35
polyurethane sealant or the lap sealant um
47:41
does a good job but it just looks really messy doesn't look professional i know it
47:48
seals great but i don't know it's just a it's a pet peeve of mine
47:53
now i want it to look good as it seals so this is uh what i've decided to do for my process
48:00
and uh yeah you're just painting it on super thick and what's so nice is it it kind
48:06
of just like melts into the contours of the roof vent
48:12
and just gives such a nice professional finish you'll see here as i get finished i'm
48:18
immediately going around and taking the tape off you always want to do that when you do any type of sealant silicone
48:25
adhesive like that it just comes off super clean anybody that's painted before knows that
48:30
that's the best way to do to take tape off is you know before the paint dries
48:37
and what i'm doing here is i'm just cleaning everything off and you can see how just such a nice clean uh
48:42
professional look that it gives and i really enjoy it
48:49
[Music]
48:57
all right it's time to get the fan on the roof
49:06
all right got everything cleaned up
49:13
i even took my towel off of here which i probably shouldn't have done but
49:18
anyway so this is still drying take your fan out what you want to do is
49:25
twist this right here if you have the motorized version you're going to hear
49:30
that noise of the motor turning just do it nice and easy but you got to
49:35
do this to access these holes these holes
49:41
where your screws are going to go through and into this then you're going to want to make sure
49:46
that these these plastic i mean sorry these metal
49:51
pieces that have the threads in them are aligned with the holes on the inside
49:57
and then you're going to take your fan and it's really this easy
50:03
and without getting adhesive or sealant all over the place
50:09
stick your fan and get this in the hole
50:27
okay you can kind of go around make sure you're you're in
50:35
should drop in nice and easy okay and then you're just going to take
50:41
a phillips screwdriver with the four screws now these screws in your kit they look
50:48
different than all the rest there's they get a fat head but they're short
50:54
not to be confused with the screws that have a little white head that's flat
50:59
that is for your interior trim ring inside the van so uh trying not to get
51:06
those confused also when i install these i notice
51:12
that the uh you do have to push down a little bit
51:18
to get access to some of these holes
51:23
so what i do is i start in the front first because sometimes it seems the front is
51:31
the easiest one to get into one thing you want to do is you do not want to
51:38
you don't want to strip these screws uh it is possible to strip these
51:46
so if you feel like it's not going in all the way just back it out until you hear a click
51:55
right there and then go back in that click is the threads finding itself
52:04
all right guys back from doing a little lunch break back over here on the van
52:12
and we are coming over here to
52:19
get our final two screws put in here and again what i always notice about
52:25
these is you really kind of have to be careful pushing that you need you got to push down to get the screw started
52:34
but just to give everybody a word of caution you can strip these screws
52:43
we don't do it right
53:20
[Music]
53:49
all right simple as that the fan is completely installed ready to go and uh
53:57
yeah i'm just gonna leave this vent up just like that um
54:04
we'll leave this on for customer to peel off so
54:09
that'll be fun unless they don't want to do it then i guess i'll do it um but this will just keep
54:15
this uh shop gets really dusty so we're just doing that to
54:22
keep everything nice and clean anyway that's it if you guys would like
54:27
to see if i get in the camera here
54:34
there you go all right guys that is it for installing the max air fan on top of your roof this
54:41
is the max fan deluxe if you guys have any questions other than what i covered in this video
54:47
put those in the comments below i'm happy to put that into a future video to answer those questions so
54:53
yeah give me those questions and if anybody that you know will like
55:00
this video uh share it to them see if it will help them install their max air fan just a little
55:06
bit easier but until then guys this is it for this video and i will see you in the next one
55:12
[Music]
55:29
you
