1:47
all right guys welcome back to the live
1:50
stream real quick I'm just going to make
1:53
a uh this video should take no more than
1:55
maybe 5 10 minutes uh we're going to go
1:57
over the kitchen galy locking mechanism
2:00
for the slam latches so I'm going to pan
2:03
the camera down I just put it up here so
2:05
you can see the orientation so we're
2:08
actually inside the kitchen Galley right
2:11
here um and we're going to focus on this
2:15
slam latch that you can actually see so
2:18
I didn't put this one in uh it was just
2:21
laying on the desk so I got to put it in
2:24
before I put the countertop on because
2:27
it's going to be really it'll be
2:29
possible to pretty much get to it after
2:31
that so let me show you what I'm talking
2:34
about all right I'm going to hop in the
2:41
van and we're going to be talking about
2:43
this is the slam
2:46
latch then we have
2:49
our
2:51
um let me get the other piece here we
2:53
got one more piece we got to grab
3:00
so I'm showing you how to M Mount
3:03
the
3:04
Locking clasp or however you want to
3:08
call it it's pretty much the part that
3:10
the slam latch connects to or latches on
3:14
to
3:47
okay so what we have here
3:49
is uh this is a piece of Baltic Birch uh
3:52
about 1 in by 3 in and we have our latch
3:57
attached to
3:58
here uh well not not the latch but this
4:00
is the part that it locks into so if you
4:03
take apart and disassemble your slam
4:06
latches first off the slam lat slam
4:10
latch looks like this
4:13
you open this
4:15
up depresses this so it can actually
4:18
lock
4:19
into this piece so they call it a slam
4:22
latch because when you slam it in there
4:25
it jumps over this and then this is
4:28
actually needs to be mounted to where it
4:30
catches if you mount it offset like that
4:34
then the drawer is going to Rattle so
4:36
you want to make sure that when you
4:39
adjust the these screws right here you
4:42
do it in a way that this is going
4:45
to firmly catch that latch when it
4:49
slams so that's the first thing you got
4:51
to get right and you have to get that
4:52
right when you actually make the
4:54
drawer so right here uh but what we're
4:58
doing right now is the
5:00
final part of this and we're
5:04
taking this
5:06
piece and we're just kind of coming
5:08
under
5:09
here and we're
5:12
finding a low enough position to where
5:15
that it doesn't interfere with the latch
5:18
but it's low enough to where there's
5:20
enough meat so that when we actually
5:23
open the drawer and slam it that we have
5:26
a nice uh positive
5:33
closure so I feel it kind of rubbing
5:36
just a little bit so I'm going to make
5:37
an adjustment to the screws really quick
6:11
okay coming back in the
6:14
van all right so this is the one that
6:16
actually already adjusted so let's take
6:19
a look at
6:24
it okay so that one you can see
6:30
got a really
6:32
good closure on
6:46
it and so I'll just show you this one
6:48
for example so this is the
6:50
orientation so if we need to tighten
6:53
this up uh we're going to move this
6:56
forward
7:00
and it's really good to use Baltic Birch
7:01
because this is it's a very very
7:04
hard
7:07
uh piece of material and you need that
7:09
hardness because if you're going to set
7:13
these screws in here they need to really
7:16
not move over
7:19
time um so right
7:23
there okay so that feels really good so
7:27
we'll
7:29
okay so now we don't have any
7:32
Rattle and that adjustment that's what's
7:35
going to either make your drawers rattle
7:36
with the Marine slam latches or
7:39
not I know my head's right in your
7:44
way okay so once we get this into
7:48
place and we know where um everything is
7:53
going you can mark this um with a pencil
7:57
so that when you take this off
8:00
and we're going to put wood glue on it
8:01
because we actually are going to do a
8:04
final install really
8:12
quick okay for this particular scenario
8:17
we don't want to do this we actually
8:19
want to evenly distribute
8:22
the uh wood glue around
8:25
here um because we need to make sure
8:28
that this uh
8:30
we've got good a good coating and this
8:33
does not move at
8:40
all and we're going to set the we're
8:43
setting the
8:44
height we can technically get back in
8:46
here and tighten these up or adjust
8:49
these later as time goes
8:51
on but really what what you want to do
8:55
is you want
8:57
to this needs to be the final ins
8:59
install so you want to get it as dialed
9:00
in as you possibly
9:07
can so we're making sure that we right
9:10
in the middle and we're not too low not
9:13
too
9:16
high and right there so we're going to
9:18
set it right
9:19
there and then if you have wood glue
9:21
push this really hard and then it kind
9:23
of gives it like a suction and then you
9:26
can fine tune
9:32
uh where you want this to
9:35
sit and then once you're happy where
9:37
it's
9:41
at we're going to get a clamp and then
9:44
we're going to uh pin nail
9:47
it with four pin
9:54
nails now when you do this it's it is
9:56
it's going to move it again so
10:07
yeah this way you can
10:10
really dial in the
10:15
uh where you want this to
10:20
be and we're using uh three 23
10:25
gauge um this is 23 gauge
10:30
think I switched over to one
10:46
inch now this is a pro tip I'm putting a
10:49
piece of wood behind
10:50
here
10:52
because every now and then this uh these
10:56
pin nailers are
11:00
they're very
11:02
dangerous they say that they they've got
11:05
a safety trigger but it's
11:07
not
11:11
uh what am I trying to
11:14
say it's it's not 100% safe let's just
11:17
say that from
11:26
experience and the last thing I want is
11:29
one of these pin nails to
11:30
go past me and into the isotherm Cruise
11:34
130
11:46
so and we just need we just need four of
11:49
these
11:59
and that'll be enough
12:01
to hold that in place until the wood
12:04
glue
12:08
cures um so we can go ahead
12:11
and undo
12:15
this wipe off our X excess
12:24
glue and just in
12:27
case we really messed up we can actually
12:30
test our
12:31
drawer and there's still time to pry it
12:35
off if we needed to if we messed up that
12:40
bad right now this thing is perfect so
12:43
you can
12:43
see I'm moving the
12:46
drawer there's no
12:54
rattle okay and so this is my tester
12:57
piece so I'm going to keep this just for
12:59
a future reference um this just lets me
13:01
know how I have this set up with a/ in
13:04
piece of piece of wood so I'll keep this
13:07
on hand but pretty
13:09
much all of the latches in this van are
13:12
like this with the exception of the one
13:13
underneath the fridge stack which had to
13:16
be fabricated a different
13:20
way but that is just a little
13:24
quick overview
13:26
of how to make this bracket I think
13:29
there's a lot of people that this will
13:32
help because this seems to
13:35
be it's a nice the slim latches are nice
13:38
but it's they're kind of quirky as far
13:40
as how they get mounted so hopefully
13:43
this helped out hope you guys enjoy this
13:45
video make sure you get subscribed turn
13:48
that notification Bell and I will see
13:50
you guys in the next live stream
